Unlike every other day today was actually not so bad, I just got into the university to study the course of dreams ‘Mechatronics Engineering’. The fresher’s orientation seminar was boring, I’m pretty sure everyone there felt the same.

Right, I forgot to introduce myself, I am Hyla Orland. I was just your average teen who was about to explore the world away from home. There’s nothing special about me just your regular average guy, sure I look quite handsome.

I was on my way to the dorm when I bumped into my cousin who also got admitted to the same University as me, same faculty only different departments since he applied for Petroleum and Gas Engineering.

“Hey Hyla, what are you doing here?” asked my cousin.

Right this is my cousin who I was talking about ‘Danie Greyness’ he’s taller than me by a whole head, he’s smooth with the ladies and they just love him.

“I got assigned to this dorm, you?” I said answering as I nodded in his direction as I inquired about his being here.

“Same”

“Nice what room? Cause I got put in Room 30 in the west wing” I said laughing.

“Shit, I also got assigned to Room 30 in the west wing, looks like we’re roommates” he said as slapped me on my shoulder.

“let’s go”

We got to meet our other roommates as we entered the room,

“You guys must be our roommates” said the guy sitting on the top bunk on the left with his laptop as he listened to music.

“Yeah we are” said Greyness as he walked towards him.

Jumping off his bunk he walked towards us as he introduced himself.

“I am Enri Strong, fresher PGE” he said.

“looks like we’re in the same department, I’m Danie Greyness but you can call me Grey and this is my cousin” he said as he looked at me.

“Hyla Orland, MCE” I said as I shook hands with him.

“Looks like only the last guy is in another Faculty.” He said as he laughed.

After the introduction we settled into the room as soon as our last roommate walked in.

“Hi, I’m Khalil you must be my roommates” he said as he walked towards his bunk searching for something in his bag.

“Hyla”

“Greyness”

“Nice to meet you” he paused smiling “I’ve got to go” he said as he finished arranging his bag.

“Ok…”

“looks like we won’t be seeing much of him for a while” said Enri.

“Yep, he must be a busy guy” I said laughing.

“So, anyway who’s going to the party this weekend” asked Enri as he put his laptop aside.

“I’m not sure, You?” I said as I asked Grey.

“Let’s go Bro” he said as he slowly rubbed my shoulders “think about it, they’ll be lots of fun things not to mention the girls” he said as he raised his brows mischievously.

“I don’t know”

“Come on, you know deep down you want to go” he said.

“Don’t forget there’s a meteorite falling towards earth” I said pausing “I was planning on watching its descent through earth from the Observatory downtown” I said.

“Dude would you rather watch a falling rock or hang out with beautiful bunnies all night” he said.

“Fine, I guess I could monitor its descent from my phone.” I said as I agreed.

“It’s settled we leave on the set date boys.” Said Grey as he laughed out like someone possessed by a pervy ghost.

…

Morning came softly,

“Grey, your alarm is ringing” I said as I kicked him in bed as I rubbed my eyes.

“Wah...” he mumbled as he got out of bed.

“I’m going to take a shower, I already arranged the books we need for our class this morning” I said as I grabbed my towel as I walked into the bathroom.

“Thanks” he simply said.

“You guys I’m trying to sleep” said Khalil as he covered his head with his pillow in a futile attempt to block the noise.

“When did you even get back” asked Enri as he hopped of the top of his bunk.

“Like I said I’m trying to sleep”

“Just let him be” said Grey as he put the already arranged books into his bags “We’ve got such an early class”.

“Yeah, we all have to take the same courses during our first year” he said opening his laptop.

“Dude, what do you use your laptop for?” asked Grey.

“OH, I produce beats” he said smiling.

“Nice, after our class today you got to let me listen to your beats” Grey said as he looked at Enri.

“Sure” said Enri.

…

“We got to go what are you guys still up to” I asked as I opened the door.

“Dude, relax it’s the first class we won’t do anything serious plus am downloading the school map now.” Said Grey as he slouched in his reading chair.

“Come on, I clearly asked you to download that last night” I said.

“Ok, stop arguing let’s go I downloaded the map already” said Enri as picked his backpack from his bed.

“Alright”.

“Are you sure you guys are cousins? Cause I don’t see how that works” said Enri as he laughed.

“Seriously” said Grey and I simultaneously as we turned to give him the evil eye.

“I didn’t say anything” said Enri as he raised both arms in surrender.

“less talking and more walking” I said as I increased my pace.

“Grey, I never thought you would be wrong about us not doing anything serious today” said Enri as he shook his head. “Thanks for making us go early Hyla, nobody saw that test coming” he said as he put me in a headlock.

“If you want to thank me, don’t choke me” I said laughing.

“Yeah, thanks bro.” said Grey yawning.

“it’s a good thing that we only had four classes today just imagine if it was more than that” I said as I felt a cold breeze blow against my back.

“dude don’t say stuff like that, because just the mere thought of it sends chills down my spine” said Enri.

“Just so you guys know, I call dibs on the shower first” said Grey as he broke into a sprint as we approached the dorm

“I am second” said Enri as shoved me aside before running towards the dorm.

“Betrayers” I shouted as I watched the both of them run.

…

“Dude it’s already past nine where are you going?” asked Grey as he saw me about to leave the room.

“nowhere, just the rooftop” I said as I left.

“Ok”

I stood there under the open sky as I watched the stars in sky twinkle as a cool breeze gently blew my jacket causing it to dance along with it. I just stood there unmoved, if someone was to see me at this moment they would think I was performing some superhero scene from a movie where the hero stands unmoved by the workings of the world around him.

This is the only part of the day I actually feel relaxed because I can just look up and stare at the brilliant expanse before me which was the endless and all-encompassing sky filled with stars.

“Looks like, I still have to keep putting in work” I thought to myself.

Snapping out of my thoughts, I put my hands into my pockets as I walked back to the room.

…

“look at who finally came back” said Grey as he passed me my phone. “Your mom called like fifteen times” he said as he laughed.

“It’s like past ten already, why did she call?” I asked.

“don’t ask me I didn’t answer it at all” he said as he paused “you know your mom would overreact if you were not here” he said.

“Fine, I will call her tomorrow morning and just come up with some excuse” I said.

“Oh right, you have to listen to Enri’s beats” he said “This guy is a genius” he said as he nodded his head.

“For real?” I asked.

“Trust me”

“Alright let me hear it” I said to Enri.

We ended up listening to music till it was past twelve, before going to bed.

The week was more or less fun if we removed the intense classes we had, but they were showing signs of balancing out our lecture length for the semester.

“It’s Saturday which means flexing and relaxation” said Grey as he opened the curtains wide to let in the morning sun as he took a deep breath as if he was not able to breathe before.

“Look who woke up happy” I said Smirking in Greys direction as Enri looked at him.

“Enri, my man could you play that beat you played last night, I think you called it Genie” asked Grey as he picked up the broom.

“Sure, let’s finish this quickly then we can play Soccer on my Pc, I bought gamepads yesterday after class” said Enri.

“Singles or Double pads” I asked.

“Singles” he said.

“Great, I have a double gamepad, so use mine and give me a single one” I replied plainly.

“Why?” he asked.

“He does not enjoy soccer like a normal guy, he is all about the action and adventure” said Grey in a mocking tone.

“Says, the guy who likes seeing twenty-two grown men chasing a ball” I plainly retorted.

“Oh…” said Enri as he understood. “Let’s play a game together” he said looking at me”

“Do not be deceived even if he does not like the game you can’t easily beat him” said Grey in an attempt to warn him.

“That only makes me want to play against him more” said Enri.

“Sure, how about best six out of ten in soccer and ten out of ten in any one of my games” I said.

“Deal”

“Now can you play the music but don’t forget there’s no pill for regret” said Grey laughing.

…

“How is it possible for me to not beat you even once” asked Enri with his mouth wide open.

Grey and I simply laughed in response.

“You are using cheats” he said angrily.

“Firstly, I never use cheats when playing these games cause it’s never fun” I said pausing “Secondly, dude you seriously thought you could beat me” I said as I scoffed.

“I tried to warn and this is the consequence of your mindless action” said Grey. “He ranks 9th on the Server he’s on because he doesn’t play often if not he would be number one”.

“How many times does he play a week” asked Enri.

“Twice” answered Grey.

“Monster” thought Enri.

“It’s okay, at least you lost to me and not some noob” I said laughing.

“I am never playing a game with you” said Enri.

“Weren’t you having fun when you won me while we playing second” I said.

“That’s different, I found it hard to even score against you until the last minute in at least four games out of ten” he said.

“Alright” I said “I’m going to take a nap” I said as I climbed up to my bed.

“I will wake you up later so we can go to the party” said Enri.

“Sit down let’s play” said Grey as he grabbed the pad on the desk.

“Wake up” screamed Grey right into my ears as he woke me up.

“Grow up man” I said to Grey as I woke up.

“I couldn’t help it” he said as he tried to put on a look of innocence.

“Go take a shower, I already took the liberty of picking out clothes for you” he said.

After I finished taking my shower I put on the clothes Grey had picked out for me, it was a blue shirt with white trousers and a white jacket.

After putting them on he pulled me out as we headed downtown to where the party was being held.

Exiting the cab, we found ourselves in front of the club.

“Well you guys better move because you guys made me come here” I said to the both of them.

“Don’t tell me you guys are Scared” I taunted

“I am not scared of anything” said Grey as he walked to the entrance as we followed right behind him.

Walking into the club, we were dazed by the sudden and constantly changing lights inside, the music was turned all the way up.

“Look alive boys, we are in the zone” said Grey as he walked ahead of us.

“Nice” said Enri simply as he walked towards Grey.

“Rainbow” I said as I walked in because it was all I could think of to describe what I saw.

The party was in full swing, the DJ had the crowd under his control as he worked his magic the girls were in a frenzy as they danced on the dance floor. At another part of the club some people just sat down and enjoyed the show as they talked with friends, while some couples were being all lovey dovey all over the place.

“Over here” screamed Grey as he called me over the loud music to the bar “Here let me introduce you to my cousin” he said as he talked to the girl next to him.

“Hey”

“This is my cousin Hyla, and this beauty over here is Susanne, and her friend Macy” he said as he introduced us to each other.

“Hi, I’m Hyla nice to meet you” I said as I shook hands with Susanne before shaking hands with Macy.

“And this is Enri, he’s a friend” he said as he introduced Enri who went to order drinks for us.

“Hi, nice to meet you…”

“Susanne and this is Macy” said Grey as he gestured to point out who was who.

“Let’s get a table” said Grey as he stood up from his chair

“Grey said you guys go to Orion University” said Susanne as she tried to bring up a conversation.

“What course do you study?” asked Macy.

“We all study engineering” I said.

“Grey and I are in the same department” said Enri right after me for clarity.

“I study Mechatronics Engineering while the both of them are Study Petroleum and Gas Engineering” I finished.

“What about you guys?” asked Enri.

“We go to Purple, it’s at the other end of the city” answered Macy.

“Oh… isn’t that the University known for its brilliant art courses” I asked.

“It is” answered Grey, “But it seems like they failed to mention it houses beauties of your caliber” said Grey as he flattered both of them.

“You’re right” chimed in Enri.

“So, what do you like?” I asked Macy.

“I love music, not just any music but music with deeper meaning.” She said as she took a sip from her glass.

“Then you should talk to Enri over here” I said as I looked over to Enri.

“You like music too?” she asked.

“He doesn’t just like music, he makes it” I said laughing.

“really? That’s nice” she said “So do you sing?” she asked.

“I don’t usually sing but I can, I love making music” said Enri as he started talking to Macy.

They all slowly forgot I was there as they chatted together, I quietly slipped away as I wandered around the club in search for somewhere quiet to chill.

I made my way to the rooftop, it was spacious and the music which was so loud downstairs was like a soft melody in the background, the rooftop had a bar, it was like a restaurant that was placed in the center under the open sky, with tables arranged around it.

I walked to the bar as I grabbed a seat before ordering a Whiskey, I sipped my whiskey as I let the taste linger on my tongue for a moment before I walked towards the terrace.

“What a beautiful night” I said out loud as I reached for my phone in my pocket to check on the meteorites fall into earth.

“It’s beautiful isn’t?” said a girl as she walked towards me.

“Hmm” I said as if I didn’t hear what she said.

“I was talking about the night sky” she said.

“oh… it sure is” I said as I took another sip from my glass.

“It makes you feel how small and insignificant we are” she said as she gazed up at the sky.

“but just because it is boundless does not mean we are insignificant, since it still watches us” I said.

“How does it watch us?” she asked as she chuckled.

“See that star over there, it’s watching us by twinkling and making its presence known to us” I said trying to sound profound and deep.

“You are very different from other guys” she said laughing.

“Tell me about it” I said as I laughed.

“Hi, I’m Katrina” she said as she stretched out her slender hand.

“I’m Hyla, nice to meet you.” I said as I shook her slender hand.

“Usually guys are more interested in sports than abstract beauty that could be found by just looking up” she said.

“and usually girls love being the center of attention, so I’m surprised you are here all alone” I said laughing.

“That’s true but I guess you could say that’s what makes me different from the rest” she said.

“Can I get buy you a drink” I asked.

“Sure” she said as we walked towards a table.

Right, Although I don’t usually talk much when it comes to ladies, I’m still a killer if she’s able to strike up a conversation I’m pretty interested in, wink wink if you catch my drift.

“So, tell me what is a someone of your level doing here” I asked.

“Pretty good question but don’t you think I’m the one that should be asking you that,” she said as she paused for a moment “anyway my friends practically dragged me here”. “What about you?” she asked.

“Me, my cousin convinced me to come here but I have to thank him properly since I was able to meet someone as interesting as you” I said as I took a sip from my glass.

“looks like we were both coerced into coming here” she said.

I signaled the waiter who was delivering an order to the table next to us.

“How can I help Sir?” asked the waiter.

“What would you like?” I asked Katrina.

“I’ll get a coke” she said as she put her glass aside.

“Same, bring us some barbecue too” I said.

“Thanks”

“Don’t thank me, if my cousin finds out I made a girl drink without knowing if she had eaten anything he won’t talk to me for a week” I said laughing. “Plus, I’m kind of hungry”.

“you really are different” she said.

Moments later the waiter arrives with our order.

“So, tell me something else about yourself, I’m pretty sure there’s more to you than what can be seen with the eyes” I said trying to sound all deep and mysterious.

“There’s nothing special about me” she simply said.

“Hahaha” I laughed “Interesting” I murmured.

“What?” she said as she looked at me coyly.

“It’s nothing I just find you interesting” I said.

“So, do I” she said as she drank her coke.

We ended up talking about different things from how she loved staring at the sky to how she loved art, while I talked about things like different concepts which seem to be in constant opposition to each other but still provide support to each other as we passed time.

The more we talked the more interested I became without realizing I time went by as my phone rang.

“Sorry, let me take this” I said as I picked up my phone.

“Hyla where are you?” asked Grey.

“I’m at the rooftop, why?” I asked.

“Well just so you know we were looking for you” said Grey “just forget about we’re coming up there”. He said as he hung up.

“Uhm… I hope you don’t mind, but my cousin is coming up is that cool with you” I asked.

“Sure, why not” she answered simply.
