My Flirtatious Hubby's Ghoulish Requests
Chapter 1 - Begone, Witch!
Katherine Solace
Urgh, my head hurts.
Katherine Solace
It's way too warm to be out in a cloak like this.
I've been called a witch ever since I was little.
Because of my snow white hair and the fact that I didn't know my father was the main reason I was bullied in my youth.
Child A
My mommy says that you're an illegitimate child and that you should have never been born!
Child B
My mommy says that you're a witch and that you're the offspring of the Devil!
Those insults floated around me, weighing me down and crushing my self-esteem.
Eventually, I stopped caring about the snarky comments that they occasionally dropped while I was in town.
Trying to please all of those people was useless. They had made their mind up about me.
I was a cursed child, the offspring of the Devil, the illegitimate child, the weirdo.
Even my mother began distancing herself from me, and locked herself away in our house because of shame.
I never asked her who my father was, but I found out as soon as I had turned 19.
Due to a debt that the villagers had with the owner of the farmland, Count Asdure, they had accumulated a huge debt that they were unable to pay.
When he first caught a glance of me, he agreed to settle the debt in exchange for me as his bride.
After I refused to help out, death threats began to appear, dead animals landed on my doorstep, and eventually, my mother couldn't take it anymore and ran away.
Only, she forgot to take me with her.
I was alone, unable to survive another day in this hell I had been born into. That was, until he came along.
The marketplace was as busy as it always was.
Keeping my cloak's hood firmly over my white hair, I walked around, taking a glance at the different stalls.
I always tried my best to not catch anyone's attention in the marketplace. I needed food and here I was, down to my last few silver coins that my mother had left me.
Merchant
Bread! Get your fresh bread!
I walked over and handed a few coppers to the man before taking two loaves of bread.
I said nothing, and kept my white hair firmly hidden.
Hopefully, today won't bring any trouble and-
Serina
What do we have here?
A sudden hand grabbed and yanked my cloak back. I didn't have time to firmly hold onto it as it flew out from behind me.
Serina's raised voice caused everyone to turn towards me. Most of them gasped, others began chanting prayers, and Serina and her sweetheart, Azsoph?
Well, they were sneering at me.
I grabbed hold of the loaves of bread and went to turn around when I saw someone walk up towards me with stones in their hand.
I saw the huge stone vault towards me, and I knew that it was going to hurt.
The size of the rock was the size of my closed fist, and I didn't know what to do apart from put my hands up.
In those moments, my eyes went wide before shutting as quickly as possible.
If the rock hits my head, I'll either be dead or pass out, and if the rock hits my hand, I'll not be able to make money from sewing anymore.
Regardless, the outcome will be the same.
Suddenly, a shadow appeared in front of me like a snap of thunder in a dry plain.
Catching the stone with one of his hands, the cloaked man stood tall.
He wore a hat and gloves, and a monacle on his right eye.
He perhaps was nobility, or extremely rich.
Halford Smith
My, how uncivilised.
Halford Smith
Throwing something like this at my client. I could put you away for attempted murder for a long time.
Serina seemed speechless as the man straightened his back and turned around to meet my gaze.
Halford Smith
May I inquire the whereabouts of a certain Miss Katherine?
Why was a handsome nobleman looking for me?

Chapter 2 - Handsome Lawyer
Halford Smith
Miss Katherine.
The mysterious man that saved me was currently sipping tea in my foyer.
I've never seen such a handsome face before.
His chiselled jaw, the monacle on his right eye, his gentle and elegant manners as he sipped my tea, everything about him screamed attraction and appeal.
I don't know what to think of this...
He's come to look for me. Whether it's for a good reason or not, I'm not sure yet, but if he came to tell me bad news, that will be the cherry on top of my hellish life.
Katherine Solace
May I ask you to cut to the chase and tell me why you're here? Respectfully? My Lord?
He looked up at me, his face becoming even more handsome as he burst out laughing.
Halford Smith
Well, I'm not a lord nor am I part of any noble house.
Halford Smith
I'm a lawyer, sent by Marquis Solace.
Halford Smith
My name is Halford Smith.
Katherine Solace
A... Marquis sent you? To me?
Katherine Solace
I must apologise, but I'm not for sale-
Halford Smith
That's not why I've come here. You see, you and Marquis Solace had a unique relationship.
Katherine Solace
Sir, I might be a commoner, but insulting my reputation-
Halford Smith
Your reputation? I've heard many things about you on my travels. Even the villages next door to you had a lot to say.
Halford Smith
"Illegitimate child", "offspring of the Devil", the list goes on.
Halford Smith
"Witch" was my favourite.
Katherine Solace
What do you want?
Halford Smith
It's not what I want from you, but what you want from me.
Halford Smith
This is Marquis Solace's will. He died a week ago in a carriage-related incident.
Halford Smith
May be rest in peace.
Katherine Solace
Oh, my condolences, but I don't see what this has to do with-
Halford Smith
The Marquis had no official heirs, so he wrote a will in order to pass all of his physical assets and money to his next of kin.
His eyes landed on me, and I suddenly understood what was going on.
Halford Smith
You were named specifically in the will. You weren't a very easy lady to find.
Katherine Solace
Perhaps I didn't want to be found.
Katherine Solace
Wait, does that mean...
Halford Smith
Yes, you are part of Solace Nobility.
Katherine Solace
But why... why is he leaving everything to me! I'm not even his official heir.
Halford Smith
That's not what this document states. All it needs is your signature, and you will become his official heir.
Halford Smith
As his official heir, you will be entitled to all of his fortune and assets, excluding his title, of course.
Katherine Solace
And what might his fortune be?
Halford Smith
Hmmm... I have an estimate figure here.
He then turned around a piece of paper, and my eyes went wide.
One zeroes, two zeroes, three zeroes... five zeroes, six zeroes!
Katherine Solace
5.4 million... gold???
Halford Smith
That is indeed correct, Lady Katherine.
That would be more than enough money to buy all of the bread in the land!
No, remember what you were taught, Katherine.
If a merchant offers you a large discount, it's likely that there's something is defective.
Katherine Solace
What's the catch?
Halford Smith
My, you are so smart. I can see Marquis Solace in your eyes, Lady Katherine.
I didn't react, yet felt strangely validated.
Halford Smith
You must reside in his manor for the next three years.
Halford Smith
As long as you reside in that manor, you'll have access to all of his assets.
Halford Smith
However, if you decide to leave the manor before the three years are up, you will give up your right to the fortune and the assets and return to live your life as you did before.
This can't be true. Me, the daughter of a Marquis?
I feel like this is a scam...
As if he could read me, Halford smiled.
Halford Smith
If you don't believe me, perhaps I should show you the estate myself.

Chapter 3 - Lawyer's Charm
I don't know what possessed me to get into this carriage.
Halford sat in front of me, his expression in a perpetual smile.
Instead of making me at ease, it sent shivers down my spine.
I felt so cold in this carriage, despite it being deep in the summer month.
The silhouette of dark, contorted trees lined the path as the carriage jumped up and down.
Katherine Solace
Mr Halford?
Halford Smith
Yes, Lady Katherine?
I didn't know what to ask him. I just wanted to fill this chilling silence.
Katherine Solace
How long have you worked for Marquis Solace?
Halford Smith
Um, I think two years now.
Halford Smith
My ancestors have served the Solace family for generations.
Halford Smith
If you have any queries, please let me know.
I need to think of another question.
I need to get as much information as possible.
Katherine Solace
Marquis Solace, what kind of a man was he?
Halford Smith
Well, he was quite the generous noble.
Halford Smith
He enjoyed making relationships with commoners...
Katherine Solace
... and my mother's relationship was the one one that bore fruit.
Halford Smith
Indeed. You see, those blue eyes are a sign of Solace blood.
Katherine Solace
What about white hair?
I said it sarcastically, but he answered me anyway.
Halford Smith
I'm afraid that there isn't any Solace who have ever had white hair, I'm afraid.
Seems like I'm an anomaly in both Marquis Solace's and my mother's lines.
Halford Smith
However, I'm happy to investigate just in case there was a record if you wish.
Katherine Solace
Oh, thank you.
Katherine Solace
I'd appreciate it, Sir Halford.
Halford Smith
Please, call me Halford.
Halford Smith
I'd like that a lot.
Katherine Solace
Alright. You can call me Kathy then.
Halford Smith
Excellent. I can feel us getting closer and closer.
I don't know why, but something about him makes me feel uncomfortable.
Eventually, darkness enveloped the carriage, making my heart rate slowly increase as time went by.
The trees slowly began to look more like monster silhouettes, so I decided to keep my eyes from wandering outside.
Halford took a glance at me before knocking on the carriage roof.
Halford Smith
Driver, stop at the next inn.
I somehow had a bad feeling about this.
The darkness was something that I never enjoyed.
It distorted life itself, and brought forth another side of humanity.
Torrents of rain soon slammed against the roof of the carriage as it continued to tread down the bumpy road ahead.
I braced myself, knowing full well how bad I was with thunder and lightning.
The carriage eventually stopped, and so did my breathing.
Halford Smith
You seem nervous.
Halford Smith
Why is that?
Halford Smith
Don't worry, I don't care for the rain either.
Halford Smith
Here, hide under my cape. I'd hate it if you got wet.
I felt embarrassed at first. After all, it would mean that we were quite close together.
Halford was quite an attractive man at an attractive age for me.
I just had this gut feeling that he shouldn't be trusted.
He was being too gentlemanly and polite, despite my humble birth.
Perhaps he was one of those rare ones who found my hair novel and pretty, but I could somehow smell that he was putting on an act.
I've stopped trusting people long ago.
