Li Mei’s POV

“Xiao Li! Hurry up! We’re gonna be late to class!” My best friend, Qin Qin, cries worriedly.

“I’m coming! I’m coming!” I run after her to the classroom.

We arrive at the classroom, and Qin Qin slowly opens the door.

“Mrs. Wu! We’re so sorry for coming late! We were-”

“I don’t want to hear your excuses right now. Please, take a seat.” Mrs. Wu, my least favorite teacher interrupts.

“Yes, Mrs. Wu.” I mumble, annoyed.

I took my seat next to Wang Yuan and Junkai as Qin Qin took her seat next to Qian Xi.

I started to do my warm-up.

“Psst! Xiao Li! What’s the answer to the third one?” Wang Yuan whisper-shouted.

“Shush! We’re gonna get in trouble!” I whispered, frantically.

“Wang Yuan! Li Mei! Since you have enough time to talk in my class, I’m sure you have enough time to spend in detention after school today!” Mrs. Wu says, furiously.

“Yes, Mrs. Wu.” I grumble, rolling my eyes.

“Thanks a lot, you idiot.” I say sarcastically to Wang Yuan.

“No problem.” He answers as I roll my eyes and turn my attention to my warm-up.

After Class

“Come on guys, let’s go to lunch.” Qian Xi says, gathering his stuff and standing up.

“I gotta do something... I’ll see you guys in the cafeteria at our usual seat.” Junkai says, gathering his stuff and rushing out the room.

I rolled my eyes. If he’s going to talk to Addison again, I’m gonna kill him.

Addison is his ex-girlfriend. When they first started dating, Addison was actually pretty nice and friendly. But she started acting rude and cheated on Junkai and now all of us except Junkai hated her. But my twin, being his sometimes annoying nice self, always gave her a chance.

We all went to the cafeteria and sat down. Qin Qin sat down next to Qian Xi which wasn’t a big surprise. She’s been crushing on him since the first day they met. But she never had the guts to confess to him even though I always tell her that I’m positive that Qian Xi likes her back.

I sat across from Qin Qin and next to Wang Yuan who was sitting across from Qian Xi.

“Aww, look! It’s my besties!” A suddenly girly voice cheers almost making me jump out of my seat.

I don’t say anything and continued eating my lunch, knowing that Junkai has forgiven Addison AGAIN.

Junkai sits next to me as Addison slides into the seat next to Qin Qin.

“Hi Qinny! How’s my bestie today? We need to hang out soon! We haven’t hung out in SOOOOOO long!” Addison drags the ‘o’ dramatically.

“Uh yeah. I’ve been busy.” Qin Qin says, awkwardly.

“Hi Wang Yuan! Gosh, I missed you so much! You’re even cuter than the last time we hung out!” Addison gushes, completely ignoring what Qin Qin just said.

I give Junkai a glare while mouthing ‘What is wrong with you?’.

He rolls his eyes. ‘Everyone deserves a second chance.’ He mouths.

‘She’s had way more than a second chance.’ I mouth, angrily.

Li Mei’s POV

“Li! I’m so glad I’m back! We HAVE to go on a girls’ night out soon!” Addison squeals.

“Yup. I just lost my appetite.” I say, getting up and throwing what was left of my lunch in the trash can. Wang Yuan gets up and follows me.

“While we’re at it, why not throw Addison in this trash can as well?” He asks, innocently.

“Ok, ok. Come on, let’s go to class.” I laugh.

I head to class with Wang Yuan. We have art class right now, Qin Qin and Qian Xi have reading, and Junkai and Addison have science.

Wang Yuan and I take our seats next to each other.

Immediately, Makayla comes and takes the last seat at our table.

“Yuan Yuan! Finally, we have a seat by ourselves.” She sighed while dreamily gazing at Wang Yuan.

I chuckled as Mr. Chen (AKA my favorite teacher) gave is the instructions for the day. We were gonna be painting dragons today. I tied my painting apron around my waist and got some paintbrushes. I twisted open the green tube of paint and started on the body of my dragon.

Wang Yuan tried to unscrew the red tube of paint which was unfortunately stuck.

He finally got it open but accidentally squirted some paint onto my paper which landed like tiny red dots.

“Wang Yuan! You got red paint all over my paper!” I groaned, annoyed.

“Hey! It’s not ALL over your paper! And besides, it looks nice. Now it looks like tiny red confetti raining down from the sky onto your dragon!” He laughs.

“Exactly! Show Wang Yuan some respect! He just made you ugly little painting much better!” Makayla says, crossing her arms.

I took a deep breath and continued on my painting.

“Li Mei! What a wonderful painting! I like the touch of red, it brings out the lovely color of your dragon!” Mr. Chen smiles.

“Thank you.” I reply as Wang Yuan gives me a smirk. I stick my tongue out at him.

“So... Wang Yuan. I was thinking about going to the park after school today, want to come with me?” Makayla asks.

“Uh... I’ve got detention with Xiao Li after school today.” Wang Yuan answers.

‘No! Ugh. Why’d you have to include my name?’ I think.

“Oh, that’s alright. I can wait until your detention is over.” She replies with a wink.

“Uh... I’m hanging out with my friends after my detention is over.” He says hesitantly, trying to think of an excuse.

“I can hang out WITH your friends.” She sighs, dreamily.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

The school bell rings.

“What do you know! Time for gym! Bye!” Wang Yuan says, grabbing my arm and pulling me out with him.

“Saved by the bell.” He sighs with relief while we head to gym.

We meet up with the others.

“Xiao Li!” I hear Qin Qin’s voice yell as Wang Yuan and I enter the gym.

We walk over to Qin Qin who is also with Junkai and Qian Xi.

Li Mei’s POV

“Hey guys! How was art?” Qian Xi asks.

“Horrible. Makayla tried to get me to hang out with her after school.” Wang Yuan says in disgust.

“Okay students! We’re playing dodgeball today! Choose your teams! There will be 4 groups of 5!” The teacher, Mr. Zhang, yells clapping his loud hands.

Our group was pretty obvious. Some girls did come up and ask to join the group just because Junkai, Wang Yuan, and Qian Xi were in it though.

We went up against the team with some of the girls who asked to be in our team first.

“Okay! 3...2...1...BEGIN!!!” Mr. Zhang’s loud voice rumbled.

We scrambled for the balls.

“Hey! Li Mei!” A voice calls.

I looked up to see who has called my name. To my surprise, it was one of the girls who liked my brother.

She threw the ball straight at my head.

Wang Yuan’s POV

“Hey! Li Mei!” Was all I heard before I saw Xiao Li get hit in the face with a dodgeball and collapse onto the ground.

“Xiao Li!” The rest of us cry worriedly, hurrying over to her.

Junkai picks her up and we all follow him to the nurse.

“What happened?” Mrs. Yi, the nurse, asks with a concerned look. Mrs. Yi is a great nurse, she’s caring and always makes sure the student is alright before sending them back to class.

“She got hit in the face with a dodgeball during gym!” I blurt out, frantically.

“Ok, ok. Calm down everyone. Alright. I only need one of you to stay so when she’s okay, you can walk her back to class.” Mrs. Yi says.

“I’ll stay with her.” I volunteer.

“Alright, Wang Yuan. The rest of you, please head back to class and tell the teacher that Wang Yuan will stay here with Li Mei until she is okay.” Mrs. Yi tells the others calmly.

They nod in agreement and head back to class.

Mrs. Yi gently shakes Xiao Li.

“Li Mei. I’m gonna need you to wake up, sweetie.” She says in a soothing voice.

“Mmm... huh...?” Xiao Li opens her eyes.

“Good job, hon. Do you feel any pain anywhere?” Mrs. Yi asks.

“My nose hurts a bit.” She answers, putting her fingers on her nose.

“Alright, that’s normal. Take this ice pack. Your nose will be sore for awhile but it will get better, alright?” Mrs. Yi says, handing her an ice pack.

“Come on, Xiao Li. Let’s go back to gym.” I say. She nods as she puts the ice pack to her nose.

“Thank you, Mrs. Yi.” She says with a small smile.

“Anytime, Li Mei. You be careful now.” Mrs. Yi says with a wave.

The others rush over to us as we enter the gym.

“Xiao Li! Please tell me you’re alright!” Qin Qin says, worriedly.

“Are you okay?” Qian Xi says, concerned.

“We spoke with Mr. Zhang. That girl’s in the office right now.” Junkai says.

“Yeah. I’m alright, guys.” Xiao Li says.

Ring! Ring! Ring!

At Lockers

Li Mei’s POV

“Ok then. I’ll see you two at home then.” Junkai says as Qian Xi and Qin Qin wave goodbye.

Wang Yuan and I head to the detention room.
