“Val, have a great day in school! I love you!” Mom waved her hand at me.

Walking to school might be tiring for other, not for me. I love it, I love the smell of trees, cars passing, birds tweeting, winds blow through my face, the scenery. I just love it.

Arrived at school, entered the classroom, and placed my head on the table.

In thoughts: I want to take a nap…

“Val wake up! Class is starting!” I slowly looked up and saw my friend, Aly. Class went on smoothly. It was breaktime.

“Valorie! The principal is asking for you!” One of my classmates said. “Thanks!”

“What does the principal wants with you?” -A

“Don’t know, haven’t done anything bad since kindergarten.” -V

*Both laughs* “I’ll see you in the canteen, good luck whatever the principal wants to do with you.”

Val’s thoughts: I am not in trouble am i?

*knocks* “Come in!”

“Hello Ms. Smith, sorry for interrupting your breaktime but I have a favor to ask from you. After class can you please accompany Mr. Yu Chen around the school? He’s new and your his classmate. I thought you were the only one suitable to show him around since basically you grew up in this school, you know every single corner around here, would that be fine?”

The principal lent a hand to the boy and looked at me I nodded as a sign that I agree.

Thoughts: I didn’t even notice he was here…

“Oh and one last thing, can you accompany him this breaktime so he won’t be alone?”

“Okay, have a good day Ms.” I closed the door and looked at the boy.

Thoughts: Looks like he’s an introvert..

“Hi my name is Valorie Smith, its nice to meet you Mr. Yu Chen, lets go to the canteen my friend is waiting for me there, you can eat with us if you’d like but if you feel uncomfortable its fine too.” He just hummed.

Val’s Thoughts: Okay, way to start a conversation.

*Arrived at the canteen*

“Hey Aly, this is Yu Chen, Chen, Alyson Li, she’s my friend, Aly this is a new comer, principal wanted me to show him around school so I won’t be able to join you in practice today.”

“Hi Chen, can I calm you that? Have a seat, feal free to eat with us anytime.” Aly smiled at him and he just went to get food.

“Whats wrong with him?” -A

“Seems to me that he doesn’t like talking to people much or he’s just being a jerk.” -V

*School ended*

“Tell coach I won’t be attending, he might already know but just incase, see you!” I waved at Aly and started touring Chen around.

I showed him the canteen, gym, field, the classrooms.

*While walking*

“So your not the type to talk, its fine. Its normal to feel awkward with strangers but please not this awkward, you’ve already had lunch with me, I talked with you multiple times and I’ve accompany basically everywhere, you can atlease say just a few words would be fine.” I smiled at him.

Chen looked at her suprised.

Chen’s thoughts: She isn’t annoyed at me at this state? She has been the only one talking and i haven’t said a word isn’t she the one who should feel uncomfortable?

“Sorry, just started with a bad day.” Chen finally spoke.

Val’s thoughts: He finally spoke!

“So this entire floor is the music room, are you interested in music? Do you know how to play an instrument?”

“Yeah i do, piano and violin.”

“Cool, I know how to play the guitar and violin.”

*The chat and tour goes on*

“Well thats the whole school, what do you think of it?”

“Its nice, big.”

I nod, he’s still not comfortable around me…

we both went to separate ways going home.

“Hey how did it go with that Chen guy yesterday?” -A

“It went good, he finally spoke to me which is a good thing and i guess he’s a kind guy.” -V

“I’m jealous of you, you got to hear his voice what does it sound like?” -A

“Are you seriously asking me that? Find it out yourself.” -V

Val’s thoughts: His voice…it sounds calming. I wonder if he could sing, he’d put his voice into good use..

“Earth to Val!” Aly waved her hand infornt of me.

*Skip to weekend*

“Aly! Do you have anything to do today? Lets go to the theme park!” I called through the phone.

“Theme park? How bout lets do that tomorrow or next week? I’m gonna meet some of my friends from my old school today, wanna come?”

“Sure I’ll get ready in 10, pick me up will yah?”

“Yeah, i’ll head there now. Byee”

Val’s thoughts: Yess! Thank you! I won’t have to stay at home!

*Mall*

“Guys! Its nice seeing you again! By the way this is Valorie, Valorie my friends, guys this is Valorie Smith.” -A

“Its a pleasure to meet you guys!”

“I guess we need an introduction, My name is Michael, just call me Mike.”

“I’m Jane, its nice to finally meet you, Aly has been talking about you!”

Val’s Thoughts: Why do i feel like the way they introduce themselves it feels like Aly is my girlfriend or something like that.

“Hi my name is Thea, pleasure to meet you!”

“Carl”

Val’s Thoughts: Guess he isn’t the type to talk.

Okay, so since we’ve done the introduction, lets get something to eat, I’m starving!”-A

*Restaurant: eating*

“So tell us Val, is there someone your interested with? Aly tells us lots about you but she never told us about your liking.” -M

“No one, I know it might sound cliché but as much as possible I’d like to only focus on studies.” -V

“That’s impossible! No one in the world has never even like a person, even if its just 1% its still counted.” -T

“Seriously guys! She’s one in a million! She’s never liked anyone not even celebrities, idols and singers! I’ve known her since childhood!” -A

“Wait if you’ve known her since childhood, how come we’be never seen her?” -J

“Its because I never went out of the house, Aly has always been the one to come over. Wasn’t really sociable before.” -V

“That sucks..how did you live with that?” -T

“I’m used to it. Don’t be mistaken I have my own friends, its just that i was way hooked into books rather than people before.” -V

*Chats ongoing*

I excused myself to go buy somthing. While walking I saw a familiar face.

Is that Chen? Whats he doing in a mall? Should I approach him? Nah, not like you’ll have a proper conversation even if you approach him.

I countinued my way to look for a book store.

Chen’s POV

I guess I have nothing to do, I’ll just go to the mall.

*Walking*

*Suddenly saw Val with Aly and her friends*

I hurried my footsteps away from them afraid of being seen.

An hour later\~

“It’s been an hour I haven’t found something to buy..”

Chen’s thoughts: Why do I feel like someone’s staring at me?

I slowly glaced at my back and saw Val staring at me, did she notice me?

Then suddenly she walked away..

Chen’s thoughts: I know it sounds crazy but i don’t mind secretly following her..

Back to Val

“Hi may I ask where can I find the Documentary section?” I asked the staff.

I found my book, and quickly checked out.

“That will be 20 dollars.” I handed her the money and left.

What else should i get?

*Phone rings*

“Val! Can you buy drinks for us? We’re not in the restaurant anymore we’re in play station, meet us here?”

“Yeah sure no prob!”

What drinks would they like? Damn it why should I be the one to buy them drinks..

Meanwhile:

“That will be a total of 29 dollars, 7 drinks”

On the way to the play station, i always felt like someone was following me, turns out it was only Chen. Does he know that I can see him? I should probably approach him now..

“Chen! You’ve been following me for quite a while, do you need something?”

“I-i uh, no, nothing..”

Did i embarass him or what?

“Here a drink, I bought an extra one you can have it. Wanna join me and my friends?”

“Thanks and no thanks. I’ll just go, sorry for making you feel uncomfortable.”

“You kinda did but its alright, if you really dont want, I’ll get going, see you in school!”

“W-wait!”

I looked back at him, wondering what he has to say.

“Um not that i dont have friends I do, they just don’t study at the same school as I am, um, if ever, can you please be my friend?”

This is awkward…

“Uh, yeah no problem, I’ll be your friend! If there’s nothing else you need I’ll get going! Bye!”

Weeks turned into months, Me and Chen have been very close. I introduced him to my family and they were glad I have someone other than Aly. Actually, I am thankful to be friends with him, he’s been helping me on the subjects I’m not good at and vise versa. Projects, homework has been less stress for me since we do it together.

About Aly, she’s been avaoiding me, I don’t know why but when I even went to her house her parents told me that she was out. I rarely see her in the canteen and when I message her she doesn’t reply, not even leave it on seen.

Did I do something wrong? Is she okay? Does she have problems? Why isn’t she telling me anything?

“Val! Let’s go?” Classes ended, and for today I’ll meet Chen’s family.

“Yeah lets go.”

*At home*

“So you must be Valorie! Chen’s been talking about you! I’m Anna, Chen’s mother, feel at home, I’ll make something to eat.”

This is the first time I entered his house, they didn’t have a big nor a small house it was just a normal one.

“YU CHI! COME DOWN STAIRS OUR GUEST IS HERE!” -Anna

“Coming!”

“You must be Valorie! Can I call you Val? I’m Chi, Chen’s younger sister, oh here I prepared something for you I hope you like it.”

She handed me a piece of paper, it was a drawing of me..

It’s so beautiful, she knows how to draw!

“Thank you so much for this, its so beautiful!”

Chi’s thoughts: She liked it!

*While eating*

“I hope its okay, stay for dinner will you? Chen’s father haven’t meet you and he’s been eager to get to know you.”

“Oh its fine, I’ll just have to inform my mother.”

“Do you know you were the first girl Brother ever brought home?”

“Really? Well its such a pleasure *smiles*.”

“Excuse me I’ll just go to the restroom.” -V

“Chen, do you like her?”-A

“No! She’s just a friend.”

*Mother hums*

“Guys I’m home! Oh who is this? Wait is this Valorie?” We all looked, and it was Chen’s dad.

“Hi! Its nice to meet you my name is Valorie!”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you darling, I’m Dave, Chen’s father.”

Meanwhile:

“So dear tell us how did you two meet?” -D

“In school, I was called by the principal to accompany him around the school..”

*Chat goes on*

“Honey we’re sorry for keeping you for so long, it’s already late, would it be okay to go home alone?”-A

“Why is she going alone? Chen can drop her off, right?”

“Y-yeah I can, Val lets go?”

*Walking*

“Your family is nice.”

“Yeah.”

“Oh, I almost forgot, I’ll return your notes tomorrow, thanks for lending me.” -V

“I’ll borrow your science notes I need some refreshment. I have no idea what i wrote in mine.”

*Both chuckles*

“Thank you for walking with me, i’ll see you tomorrow! Night!”
