Upon these heirs of the Kagura clan, they must feud to inherit the Seimei umbrella and become the Onmyouji Master of their generation. A snow-haired sweet little girl might be the one, or should I say 'must be the one'.
Once when couples of stars are shining along the night sky, light up the world and calming the people into their sleep, inside the palace of the Kagura clan, an old woman with wrinkles on her skin and ash is the color of her hair slowly brushes the silky hair of her granddaughter who is a living proof of the quotation 'simplicity is beauty'.
Her skin is so fair and soft as cotton.
Her lips are cherry red in color.
The strands of her hair are white like snow in winter season.
Innocent mint eyes sprinkle that whosoever looks will surely be captivated.
This little girl, an embodiment of a true beauty is named Kagura.
"The umbrella is yang. The human is yin," soft voice came out from her lips of cherries.
"That's right, Kagura. I'm glad that you always remember what I am telling you," said her grandmother who continuously brushes her hair.
"But why should I remember what you are telling me, sobo?" she innocently asked.
"Because I want you to be ready for what's destined to be yours."
"What is it?" the girl is now filled with curiosity.
"You will be entitled as the new Onmyouji Master, I've always new that it'll be you. Your talents prove it all." her grandmother said as she starts to tie royal blue ribbons to bind up her hair that is white as the moon.
"R..really, sobo? But,.. Shouldn't it be one of my elder brothers?" she replied. "Katsuki, my seventh brother, he has always been training really good and wanting to be the Onmyouji Master. Can't he just,.. be the one?" she added. She's not really feeling well because her brothers might get mad at her.
"No, dear. The Onmyouji Master is the only one who possesses the true talents of being a great onmyouji. It cannot be chosen by pointing fingers on who wants it even if they've been training hard. The worthiness comes from within. And you, Kagura, you're the only one who have it." her grandmother answered.
A frown shapes on the face of the little lady. She must be thinking if her brothers will be happy about that. Being the Onmyouji Master is really a big responsibility.
"You should not worry, my granddaughter. The yin and yang has a meaningful thought. The yin is darkness but has positivity within. The yang is light but has negativity within. Together, yin and yang, they mean the truth and balance. It will never cause you harm or place you in danger, Kagura. Seimei umbrella will be your yang and you will be it's yin. And that will make you the best Onmyouji Master," she delightfully explains.
Kagura was entranced. A flame inside her pure heart starts to please her mind and soul. The frown transforms into a smile and her face blooms again.
"If you say so, sobo. I would love to be the Onmyouji Master and the yin of the Seimei umbrella!" she said with joy.
Grandmother chuckles and said, "That's the spirit! I know you will do good as the wielder of the Seimei umbrella. It is one of the best heirloom that was passed down to our family."
Kagura's hair are now tied and finished. She looks stunning even just with her bare face.
Her grandmother stands up and gets something that is like a chest. She sit again beside her granddaughter.
"Kagura, my dear," she calls to her. "Aside from the Seimei umbrella, I will give you another heirloom." she opens the chest and shows her a blue headband. "This is a headdress that is passed for the first female child of our family. It came from our great ancestors and until now, it is still on our property. I passed it to your mother but since she's gone, I took care of it again."
Kagura seems to like the headdress. Excitement has filled her heart. She knew it'll look great on her.
Her grandmother put it on top of her hair. Even if it is not a crown, Kagura feels that it still gives her glory.
"I want you to take care of it from now on. Always wear it so you will feel, know and remember that I am with you all the time, we are all with you all the time," said her grandmother.
"Thank you very much, sobo. I promise you that I will never lose it. I'll take care of it as you did." She hugs her grandmother. "I love you, sobo."
"I love you, too, Kagura." She hugs her granddaughter back tightly. "I must sleep now and you, too. Please go to your room. Goodnight, my favorite grandchild." She kisses her forehead.
"Goodnight, sobo!" she stands and bows to her politely.
She started walking in the hallways of the palace towards to her room.
When she arrives, she opens up the window and sits while looking to the sky. She watches how the stars are glittering bright and the crescent moon is smiling at her.
"I can do it. I'll be the best Onmyouji Master." she said to herself then she lays on her bed and closes her eyes.
"The umbrella is yang and I am it's yin," she mutters and starts to fall asleep.
KAGURA'S POV
"Kagura, wake up! Kagura, onee-chan! Please wake up already!" Loud little voice of a child roamed around my room that made wake up early in the morning. Rumbling thuds of tiny feet are making noises all around my bedroom's floor. "Onee-chan, wake uuup!"
I sat up on my bed while my eyes are still shut to stretch out a little. My hand extends to cover the mouth of this little monster of loudness and noise. He mumbles like, "Hnbdbmmlnm.. Bdbnnhmbnn..!" as he tries to remove my hands off his source of noises.
"Hinata-kun, please stop it. You are so noisy. I'm awake now, don't you see?" I chuckled then capture my little brother around my arms to give him an embrace. I look at his cute face and I felt so happy because this ball of sunshine is the first thing I see in this morning.
- Hinata, 12th brother, he's my best buddy and my everyday happy virus. The energetic last child of my family.
"Let me go, onee-chan! You're treating me like a baby again." He stands up and poses like an adult man. He emphasizes his small chest and flexes his cute little arms. "You see? I'm a grown up now. You don't have to hug me anymore."
I chuckled for the second time as I watch my younger brother doing such these adorable poses. I pat his head then said, "Oh, yes. I am impressed, little mochi. But that doesn't mean I will stop hugging you. You're my baby forever," then I hugged him again. "So what's for breakfast?" I asked.
"Lots of delicious food, Kagura-chan! Tadashi-chan is already at the diner waiting for us. Let's go now, I am hungryyy," he said as he attempts to throw a tantrum. He's so kawaii.
"Go ahead and I'll follow after I prepare for a minute." I said then he hops his way out of my room cheerfully.
I folded my bed neatly then put it in the cabinet. I changed my clothes and prepared myself before leaving my room.
But wait,
I walked back into my room then get the headdress that my grandmother gave me last night. I would like to wear it always from now on. I'm glad and blessed to have it on my care.
I lead my bare feet out of my bedroom to proceed to the dining room. My two little brother might be bored of waiting. I don't want them to become 'hangry'. They might bite me instead. Just kidding.
As I walk forward I saw Kosuke, one of my older brothers. His round brown eyes look so drowsy. He is carrying a tiny bottle with leaves and roots inside it. I know he didn't get enough sleep in the night because he's been always busy studying medicinal herbs hoping to discover something that can sure chronic illness.
"Ohaiyo, Kosuke-chan." I bowed to him but he didn't bother to notice me.
- Kosuke, 5th brother, the aspiring doctor of the family. He likes studying medicines more than sleeping. But isn't it sleeping late is bad for our health?
He walks in an opposite direction while his one hand scratching handsome brown eye. He must be tired and sleepy. I continued walking on my way.
"Stop singing, Shoichi-chan! You sound like a bullfrog. Singing is not your style. You should stick on painting trees and flowers." Loud shouts invades the hall until another doorway spits out two more of my dozen brothers. They are arguing like young children fighting for some candies.
"You just can't accept that I sing better than you, Sasuke," he teasingly replied.
- Shoichi, 9th brother, an amazing artist of painting landscapes and natural occurrences. His life is dedicated to his canvas and paintbrush. And also teasing Sasuke.
- Sasuke, 10th brother, his voice is very angelic and captive. Whenever he sings, it feels like you're in heaven. You might mistaken the two of them as twins but they're not.
I walked towards them then suddenly they stopped fighting. "Ohaiyo, Shoichi-chan. Ohaiyo, Sasuke-chan." I greeted.
And just like my fifth brother, Kosuke, they didn't notice me then they moved in another direction. Well, I hope they already took their breakfast.
After a little more walks, I reached my destination. "Am I late, my little brothers?" I asked my two cute boys.
"Did you really ask that, onee-chan?" said Hinata with a gloomy yet cute voice. This little man. I chuckled.
"Ohaiyo, Kagura-chan," Tadashi bows his head to me. "Shall we eat now?" he said timidly.
I pinched his cheeks then smiled to him. This boy is just so shy but I can prove you that he is the smartest.
- Tadashi, 11th brother, the bookworm of the family. He was born after me. He is always interested about astronomy and phenomenons that happen in the world. A real brainy brother.
We put our hands together i front of our head and bow, "Itadakimasu!" then we eat the food that is prepared on the table. Hmm.. These are totally mouth watering!
"Kagura-chan," Tadashi called me.
"Hmm?" I responded.
"I have read from a book that an asteroid coming from the sky will strike near our land. I conclude that it'll be near and true because I have been observing the night sky and I see something moving towards us," he said.
"That is really a useful information, Tadashi-kun. Let's just hope our home will not be hit by that asteroid. I should tell our first brother so that he can command someone to spread the information. Thank you, Tadashi-kun." I said to him then we finished our meal.
Knock, knock, knock.
The three of us faced the door until we saw it opens.
