Sad Tango

Thorn Love

Cheara finally arrived at her old apartment. She threw the key to the table and flopped onto the sofa without even cared if it was covered with dust. She stared at the ceiling.

"Revoke your words."

"What did I do wrong?"

Those words he said keep haunting her. What did he do wrong? What did he do wrong besides... nothing? Why she wanted to break up with him? Bored? Sometimes it happened. Cheated? He was as loyal as a dog. So what?

Cheara sighed. "He has done nothing wrong. Am I being a bitch for breaking up with him?"

Maybe it was his love. He loved her too much that it felt like a burden for her. An overprotective and obsessed boyfriend. Sometimes she was afraid of what he capable of with that kind of personality.

Just like he did, Cheara was falling in love with him at the first sight as well. His broad chest, six packs, black hair and green eyes caught her attention. A very perfect man alive. And then there were his kind personalities, angel-like smile and those sweet words that he spoke to her ears.

At first she thought the way he protected her, treated her and stared at her was love. But then she realized that that was obsession and not a passionate love, maybe passionate but in different meaning. She was afraid of that side of him.

It was like she was a prisoner, a criminal that was sentenced to live in the jail forever. A clueless marrionette. But then, why she was crying?

The next day, Cheara was preparing breakfast when she realized that she made two, she laughed. A habbit that wouldn't be so easy to forget after five years leaving together with someone.

After she finished her breakfast. She went to her room and started to preparing her things since she got an appointment with the owner of the restaurant who wanted her to decorated it with her painting. Yes, she was a painter though her works was not as famous as others, but she was happy to paint anyway.

10.25 - Garden View Restaurant

Cheara arrived 5 minutes earlier than expected since she got the taxi very fast than usual. She looked at her wristwatch and then started to preparing her things for the client to pick which painting that he wanted to buy. She took a glance of her appearance from the mirror in front of her, well... panda eyes as expected no matter how much she tried to hide it.

She sighed as she looked at her phone, 103 missed calls and 48 messages from the same person, Haden. And then her phone rang, she looked at the name on the screen. Haden. She stared at it, not even realized that someone was approaching her.

"Miss Mahveen?"

Cheara jumped in surprise and when she was about to fall, the man in front of her held her in his strong arms while her hand was on his sturdy chest, just like Haden's. She then shook her head in attempt to erased him from her head.

"Are you okay, Miss Mahveen?"

His deep voice awoke her from her day dream. And she pulled away from him. "Ah, I'm sorry," she laughed awkwardly.

"It's okay," he said, reassuring.

Cheara furrowed her eyebrows. She recognize that voice and then she looked up, to her surprise it was no other than Jovin Kenzie, her ex-boyfriend in highschool before she dated Haden.

"Cheara," he said her name this time with a smile. A very same kind smile he gave when he said goodbye to her.

"Jovin?"

Jovin smiled at her again and seated in front of her. Cheara furrowed her eyebrows. Jovin laughed at her.

"What are you doing?" she said, rather coldly.

Jovin pointed at her paintings' photograph. "I'm here for these," he looked at her. "Your painting. So please take a seat, Cheara."

Cheara looked at him suspiciously, but then she sat. "I thought the one who called me was a woman."

"Mrs. Po. My assistance," he said. As usual, nothing changed about him. Still a man with a few words.

"Well then, care to explain about your paintings, Cheara?"

"Please call me Mahveen, Mr. Kenzie."

Jovin smirked. "Still as cold as you used to, huh?"

"Let's get down to business."

"As you pleased, Miss Mahveen."

Cheara rolled her eyes but after that the meeting went smoothly and they both decided which painting that fit for the theme of his restaurants. Cheara packed her things back to her bag.

"You bring your car?"

Cheara glanced at him for a while and then shook her head. "No, and no thanks."

"Thanks for what?"

"Thanks for asking and no, I don't need you to drive me home."

Jovin laughed out loud. "Wow, you are as cunning as ever."

Cheara stayed silent and when she finished packing her things, she looked at Jovin. "I'll tell my assistance to send the painting to you."

"I want you to send it to me, personally."

"No chance," she said as she put the money on the table. "Goodbye."

Cheara went out first and, alas it was rain out of the blue. She clicked her tongue as she extended her hand and play with the rain.

"I love you, rain. But why now?"

"Well, it might take a while," said Jovin.

Cheara rolled her eyes and didn't respond to Jovin. Jovin stood in front of her, blocking her view so that she could only see him.

"You're blocking my view."

He shrugged.

"What do you want?"

"Let me drive you home."

"No."

"Cheara."

"Don't call my name!"

Jovin stayed silent as he looked at how red her face was when she got angry.

"I'm sorry."

"I've moved on," she lied as she looked elsewhere.

"I'm sorry," he said again. There was a hint of sorrow in his voice. "I was wrong. I was the one who let you go without even telling you why."

Cheara snorted. "It was a long time ago. There is nothing between us now than partner in business."

"So why you look at me like that?"

"Like what?!"

"Like you're still hurt," he told her. "Like... you're still angry at me."

"Of course! You're leaving me without telling me what I did wrong!"

At that moment, she realized that what she had done to Haden was the same as what Jovin had done to her.

Was he as devastated as her right now?

"Cheara. Let me drive you home."

Cheara glared at her. "You are so stubborn."

"So do you."

"Okay, fine. Drive me home and then make sure that it'll be the last time we met."

Jovin just gave her a smiled.

After a while, Cheara and Jovin finally arrived at her apartment. Cheara got out of the car, so he did.

"You can go now."

Jovin took something from his pocket. A ring. And then he gave it to her.

"What's this?"

"Cheara, I..."

"What are you doing here?"

Cheara and Jovin looked at the source of the sound. Cheara widened her eyes while Jovin just stared at the man that stood not far from them. Haden.

Give Me A Reason

"What are you doing here?"

Cheara and Jovin looked at Haden. He was drenched from the rain. There was a pang in Cheara's heart when she saw him in that state.

"Haden?"

Haden looked at Cheara and then glared at Jovin. He walked fast toward them, and stood in front of Cheara, bloking her from Jovin's view. Jovin furrowed his eyebrows.

"Long time no see, Haden."

Haden stayed silent before he answered his question with another question, his voice was so low that it almost like he growled at him. "What are you doing here?"

"I believe I don't have to give you an answer to that."

"What..."

Cheara then got between them as she pressed each other's hard and masculine chest with her hands.

"Jovin, you should go."

Jovin didn't budge and glared at Haden, as well as him.

"Jovin!"

Jovin shifted his attention to Cheara and then he sighed and moved back. "I'll see you later, Cheara."

Cheara widened her eyes. Why on earth did he have to say that in front of Haden?!

"The ****!"

"Haden!" Cheara moved in front of Haden and blocked his way so that he couldn't beat Jovin up, though she was wondering who would win since both of them are headstrong.

Haden glared at her. "What is he doing here?!"

"I don't have to explain anything to you," she said, coldly.

"Cheara!"

"What are you doing here?"

Haden stared at her. "Why can't I?"

"Because you shouldn't be here."

Haden smirked. "Why? So that you could invite him for a tea and chit chat like old times?"

Cheara stared at him. "Wow, your imagination really do... suck," she mocked. "You should go. I want to rest."

"You really are something, huh. It hasn't been a while since we broke up, you already meet up with your ex boyfriend that you longed."

"Then comment this, why you broke up with me?"

Cheara stood silent. Rather than answering his question, she looked for her key before walked to the lift. And Haden, followed her. Cheara furrowed her eyebrows.

"What are you doing?"

"I won't leave until you gave me the answer that I want."

"What?"

Ding!

The lift opened and then Haden snatched away the key from her hand and walked to her apartment.

"Hey! Haden! Who says I invite you to my apartment?!"

But despite her protest, Haden still did as he pleased and entered her apartmet when the door opened.

After that, he stood in front of her. Cheara glared at him and pointed at the door. "Get out."

Instead of getting out, Haden walked toward her bedroom and took his shirt. He smiled.

"Don't even think about it! I was about to throw your stuff away!"

Haden nodded. "I guess so."

Cheara sighed. "Whatever, take your stuff and get out. I'm tired."

Cheara then went to the kitchen and drank water to

quenched her thirst from screaming before.

And when she looked up, Haden was there sitting in the sofa as he stared at her. He already changed his clothes, sometimes she felt jealous of how fast a man can change their clothes.

"I want to rest."

"Then answer this, why are you leaving me?"

"I was bored."

"Of me? Of us?"

"Both."

Haden scoffed. "Of us, huh?"

Cheara sighed and then she sat on the sofa across him. "We're done for good."

"Not for me."

"Whatever. I gave you the answer now you can leave."

Haden furrowed his eyebrows. "Why you want me to leave so badly? Is it because you plan to meet with that fucker again?"

"Look, Haden. I'm sorry. I know that you must feel that this is unfair for you since I just left you without telling or explaining anything to you."

"You know that but you did that anyway."

"I'm sorry."

Haden looked at her. "I love you."

"I know but your love is different."

"What's so different about it?! About my love?! Cheara you should have leave me when you've got a chance. But you pick the time when I... to the point where I can't live without you. When I already attached to you."

Cheara stayed quiet.

"So, if you want to end it so badly. Give me a reason, the one that makes sense to me. The one that..."

"Haden," she opened her mouth finally.

Haden looked at her and she did the same. "I don't love you anymore. I just... don't. That's the reason."

The Reason

"I just don't love you anymore."

Haden's heart was hurting when she said that to him. How can she didn't understand how much he loved her?

He scoffed. "You don't love me, huh?"

Cheara gulped. "Yes."

"Since when?"

Cheara was surprise with his quetion. She didn't prepared to answer that.

"Uh..."

Haden snorted. "So you really want to break up with me just because you bored of me, huh?"

Cheara clenched her fist, but kept her face straight while in truth, she wanted to tell him everything.

The reason why she wanted to break up with him was because she... was afraid. Afraid that his love was just a mask of his obsession towards her. Afraid that he didn't trully loved her all these years. And most importantly, she didn't want to hindered him.

His dream was to become his father's successor. But to be able to do that, he should marry someone that his mother picked for him, which was one of the shareholder's daughter, so that he would have strong people around him.

His mother went to visit her not long ago and told her everything. She said she could become his mistress and not the real madam of Akio's clan. Her pride was crush indeed, as well as her heart. So, she wanted to end it as soon as possible.

She didn't want to share him to other woman, let alone shared his love. She wasn't a strong woman, not like that. She loved him, but the thought of him embrace another woman beside her, was so painful. But she was just a painter, and not that famous on top of that.

How could she compared herself with one of the shareholder's daughter who lived and talked well? Cheara still maintaned her straight face when she looked at Haden's eyes.

"It's not that strange for a couple to get bored with each other."

"I'm not!"

"Well, I do."

Haden stood and approached her. After that he kneeled in front of her as he slowly grabbed her hands. Cheara didn't say anything and just stared at him.

"Cheara," he called her name while he stared at their interwined fingers. "Please, don't do this."

Cheara sighed. "If you trully love me..." he looked up. "...if you do, then please prove it."

He squeezed her hands. There was hope in his green eyes. "Anything. I'll do anything."

Cheara smiled. "Take me to dinner tomorrow at our usual restaurant."

Haden lifted his hand and caressed her cheek. "You always surprise me with your request."

"Well, I don't want to trouble you with anything."

"But you did for days now."

Cheara smiled, sheepishly. "Sorry."

Haden smiled sweetly at her then he moved closer to her. When their lips were almost touch each other, Haden stopped. But he didn't move away from her when she asked her, "May I kiss you?"

Cheara stared at his lips, she was hypnothized with the smell of his parfume and his fresh and mint breath. "Why do you have to ask? Kiss me," she allowed him.

And without wasted anymore time, he kissed her lips so passionately. He putted his hand around her slim waist and pulled her closer to his broad and masculine chest while the other hand was on the back of her neck so that he could deepened the kiss.

Cheara put her hands around his neck. The kiss was so sweet and intoxicating. Then Haden pulled away from her as they were panted. Cheara pulled him closer. "Haden," she whispered, wanting more.

Haden put his hands on her waist. "Cheara, what if I can't hold back myself and devour you completely?"

"Then do it."

Haden looked at her red face and how she panted from the kiss. The truth was they were never done it before even though they lived together.

"Cheara."

"Shut up," she growled and pulled him closer to kissed him.

"Damn it."

Haden carried her to her bedroom and put her on the bed gently. He looked at her one more time. "Cheara, I will not stop even if you tell me to."

Cheara caressed his cheek. "Then don't stop."

Haden kissed the palm of her hand and looked at her with passion in his eyes. "You're mine, Cheara," he said before he kissed her again.

He didn't see the tears that fall from her eyes when he said that wholeheartedly.
