Her Revenge, His Redemption

Lenora's Last Song 1

She stared at the mansion from the tallest tree on the grounds. A soft wind blew through her hair as she kept watch. It reminded her of her mother's touch and she clenched her jaw involuntarily. Painful memories threatened to drag her back to hell.
*SLAP!*
Lenora
Lenora
Not now, Lenora. You still have work to do.
Her face darkened once again as she focused on the mansion. Her eyes were trained on a single window. She knew what she saw through that window would change everything.
Lenora
Lenora
I will pay them back! I haven't been dragged through hell just to give up now!
Just then, she saw movement in the room. Her eyes flashed. Her fingers clenched around a worn down dagger at her hip.
Her heart thrummed in her chest.
Lenora
Lenora
Almost there, father. I'll be seeing you all again soon....
Lenore's entire body had been trained for this moment. The moment she took revenge for the loss of everything she held dear.

Ward's Last Song

The room reflected his thoughts. Inky blackness everywhere. He cursed himself for his naivete and his blind trust. Why hadn't he seen the signs before? How had it come to this?
Ward
Ward
I wonder how long I've been in here....
Idle thoughts passed through his mind. Memories of his lovely mother and the home they shared in the country threatened to swallow him whole.
Ward
Ward
If only I had been stronger.....
Ward
Ward
If only I had more of my father's iron will.....
Ward
Ward
I would have seen through these plots and squashed them under my boot!
He was angry with himself. He knew he had the power to change things for the better. He just knew it too late.
Ward
Ward
If only there were second chances.
*footsteps approaching*
*keys rattling*
*kachink*
*click*
*creeeaaak*
Ward hastily covered his eyes as the bright light consumed him.
Guard
Guard
*sneers* It's time, "Your Highness."
Ward
Ward
You know, you could sound a little upset I'm being sent to the gallows.
Guard
Guard
Sad for a traitor to the Crown? *snort* At least you have a sense of humor in the end.
Ward
Ward
Only because I'm innocent.
Guard
Guard
Whatever helps you sleep at night. Not that you'll need to worry on that score anymore.
Ward
Ward
Let's just get this over with.
Guard
Guard
Yes, Your Highness.
Ward was finally able to walk in the light albeit for a brief moment. The sun shone down and warmed his face.
He was reminded of the wheat fields he called home when he was a boy. Of his mother's bright smile. It was bittersweet.
Ward
Ward
I'll see you soon, mum. *He smiled*
As he was led to the platform another memory flashed in his mind. One of a girl he had met not far from his home as a child. He had never spoken to her, but the sight of her had shaken him to the core.
Ward
Ward
*I wonder what happened to her. I hope her fate was better than mine.*
Ward
Ward
*If there are second chances, I'll speak to her next time.*
As the noose was placed around his neck, the sight of her ebony black hair and violet eyes burned into his mind.
Ward
Ward
Please let me see her again.....
As the hangman pulled the lever, Ward smiled.
If second chances exist, he knew she would be the catalyst for his redemption.

Lenora's Last Song 2

Her eyes glinted like a panther before it pounces on it's prey as she silently ran through the grounds. She had gone through this scenario countless times. So many times, in fact, that she could do it in her sleep.
All her senses were tuned to her surroundings. The slightest noise would have ended with an arrow to silence it.
Never before had she been so thankful to have inherited her father's ebony colored hair as it made hiding in the dark so much easier.
Lenora
Lenora
*Almost there!*
She had finally reached the walls of the mansion. During the day it was a magnificent building. Worn terracotta bricks covered in wisteria and ivy lined this whole side of the house. It was truly breathtaking.
Now though it was a hindrance since it made climbing impossible without being heard by the guards. So she grabbed a special arrow from her quiver with a rope attached, placed it in her bow, and loosed it aloft to the balcony above.
It reached the railing and latched on. She smiled for a split second and then began to ascend. The hard part was yet to come.
Lenora
Lenora
*I wish I could have come back here under happier circumstances, but this will have to do.*
She made it to the balcony and took her tools with her before entering the room. She did not want to damage more than she needed to.
Memories of happier times forced their way into her mind. This balcony had once seen so much happiness and warmth, now it was dark and cold.
Lenora
Lenora
*Get a grip, Lenora! You can remember them when you're done.*
She silently entered the drawing room. All the guards would be changing in this area right now, but it didn't hurt to be extra cautious.
She slowly made her way to the main bedroom. Her target was there. The source of her pain. She was singularly focused on him.
Lenora reached for the handle with a trembling hand. She never thought she would open this door to kill a man.
With her father's dagger in her hand she silently entered the room which had once been her parent's, and was met with a sword in her face.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
You did well to make it this far, my dear, but I'm afraid your plot ends here.
Lenora
Lenora
I will take back everything you've stolen from me tonight, Uncle!
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
Haha Haha! Stolen?! I've just taken back what's rightfully mine!
Lenora stared daggers at him.
Lenora
Lenora
How dare you!! Father trusted you so much! How could you betray him?!
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
It was too easy, my sweet niece! He betrayed me first by stealing your mother away from me!
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
*eyes wide open* *Terrifying smile* You look so like her, you know.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
I can keep from killing you if you agree to be my woman! *evil laugh*
Lenora
Lenora
*mouth agape* You've gone completely insane, Uncle! My mother NEVER loved you! And I will NEVER forgive you.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
*frowns* That's too bad. I guess you'll get to see your dear family very soon!
Duke Argentine swept his sword to take Lenora's head but she rolled away to dodge.
She aimed for his side to throw him off balance and jabbed her sword into him.
The Duke screamed and threw his hand at her face.
*Thwack!*
Lenora saw stars for a second but regained her footing to dodge his sword again.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
You little bi**h! I'll have your head for that!
Lenora
Lenora
Only if you don't bleed out first, Uncle!
Stabbing him gave her the confidence she needed.
Lenora
Lenora
*I can do this! I'm almost done!*
The Duke was still light on his feet despite having a gash in his side. Lenora made to evade him again, and bumped into a chair.
She hit it with enough force to knock herself down.
Lenora
Lenora
*Sh*t! Not now!*
That second was enough for the Duke to step on her father's dagger and snap it in half.
*crack*
*ping!*
Lenora felt her heart break completely. She saw red. That was the last of the belongings she was able to escape with the night her family was betrayed.
Lenora
Lenora
YOU BASTARD!
Lenore forgot all reason and lunged at her uncle.
He side stepped her with ease.
A sickening smile adorned his face as he grabbed her beautiful hair and pulled.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
Now you can join your family. How happy for you!
Lenora
Lenora
Go to hell! *spit*
The Duke's face contorted with rage.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
How dare you sully my beautiful face!
He raised his sword and hit her across the face with the hilt.
*Thwack*
*Crunch*
Lenora felt her cheek bone break. It was excruciating. She was at the brink of losing conciousness.
Desperate to stay awake, she dug her fingernails into her hand.
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
That's right, my dear. You need to be awake when I end you!
*maniacal laughing*
Lenora
Lenora
*Ah, mother, father, brothers, my dear baby sister, I've failed all of you*
Lenora
Lenora
*I thought I could do it alone. If only I had allies.*
Suddenly an image appeared in her mind of a boy in a wheat field. He was a beautiful boy, and looked so kind.
He had smiled at her for only a second and then ran back into the wheat.
She had been so stunned she couldn't speak.
Lenora
Lenora
*Why did I suddenly think of him? Maybe if I had gone after him we could have been friends.*
Lenora
Lenora
*ah well, no matter now. I hope he's doing well, wherever he is.*
She turned her head to look at her uncle.
Lenora
Lenora
Uncle, if there were such a thing as second chances, I'd kill you before you could touch my family!
Duke Argentine
Duke Argentine
Too bad that only happens in fairy tales, my dear! Say hello to your family for me!
*shing!*
As the blade crossed her throat, she saw that boy with the blue-green hair and gold eyes.
Lenora
Lenora
* If I get another chance, I'll definitely chase him down!*
She smiled
Lenora
Lenora
*He will be the key to my revenge!*
