She wanted to go and study at a veterinary school, but she failed twice. Their family was neither rich nor poor. Han Yu-Hee grew up without shortage. Then within the two years that she managed to slip into the veterinary school, she promised this herself as she was in her parents’ arms:

Han Yu-Hee let out a long sigh. 

She was still trying to live – going to school while working a part-time job at night. Wasn’t it the school that her parents sent her for three years? She just couldn’t give up. She promised herself that she would graduate from veterinary school and become a veterinarian herself. 

She believed that it would be a smooth road ahead after graduating from veterinary school. She couldn’t quit the school no matter how hard her student loans were, just for the sake of her future. And then she finally graduated. 

She didn’t know just how many times she had cried in front of her parents’ tombstone. Then as promised to her parents, she became a veterinarian now and thought that she could show them just how well she was doing. 

Being paid by a penny or two as a doctor was also fun. She doesn’t know when she will be able to open a private hospital, but these were the first happy days she had after her parents passed away.

But was the world really not on Han Yu-Hee’s side? When her senior told her that he would like to open up a private hospital and that he would hire her if she invested, she poured all of her money into it.

“You’re trying to run away, you son of a bitch….”

Han Yu-Hee was at the end because of this. She invested all the money from her parents’ death insurance…. Now that there was nothing left for her, no one would think that there is a possibility for her to end up living as a beggar.

At times like these, she needed a family to hug her. She wanted to go to her parents. All of her efforts over the years have gone in vain. She doesn’t have a family to encourage her to start over; she was lonely and tired. 

She took a deep breath as she stepped on the floor. She picked the tallest building among the nearest buildings and climbed on top of it. 

“Sorry, Mom, Dad…….”

At the next moment, Han Yu-Hee threw herself down without any regrets. Her sense of guilt towards her parents was more than her sense of her loss.

Is this the underworld?

Han Yu-Hee blinked her eyes. She was swimming alone in pitch-black darkness. There was only a play that was shining in pure white, then she suddenly heard a voice.

“The deceased Han Yu-Hee! Deceased Yu-Hee, can you hear me?”

“Y-yes?”

Startled, Han Yu-Hee nodded her head – no, she felt she did. Who was really here? Whoever called her name must be the Grim Reaper.

“Who are you?”

However, the owner of the voice did not respond to Han Yu-Hee’s call. Then that voice muttered in a low voice as if he was only doing what he was supposed to do.

“According to Article 1 of the Underworld Law, which states that suicide isn’t recognized as death, the Deceased Han Yu-Hee must fulfil the remaining of her life to enter the underworld. Do you agree?”

“Yes?”

He was definitely asking her, however, it was clear that the other party accepted her answer as he wished. The voice, whose gender was ambiguous, brightened remarkably.

“Good consideration. The Deceased Han Yu-Hee had about a year to live, so you are worthy of that position. Well, see you later. Bye.”

“Pardon?”

It was also an informal question this time.…. The voice seemed to accept that Yu-Hee agreed to everything, then her consciousness was cut off immediately.

“Alexa, this brat! Where are you goofing around?”

“I was cleaning up right now.”

“You’ve only cleaned for a while and now, where have you been gone? When are you going to clean the lobby?”

Aunt Jane pulled out a small purse from her pocket, glaring at Alexa, who smiled and said everything she had to say. This was Alexa’s first job today.

“Take that and go! If you are late tomorrow morning…”

“Yes, 10 Deons will be deducted from my salary, but as you know, I was never late….”

Bang! The door slammed shut in front of Alexa’s eyes. 

‘Hoo.’

Alexa placed the broom next to the inn and turned around. Goofing around? Of course, I have to play.

She was working here even without getting the basic hourly wage set by the Empire, and it was natural for her to play around for an hour or two. She walked around like a lazy grasshopper to kill time. However, she couldn’t leave the inn as it was the only place that hires a 15-year-old like her and offers room and boarding. 

Alexa straightened her back and lifted her head. In the distance, a blue flag with an eagle embroidered in it fluttered in the wind. It was a pattern that symbolized the Grand Duchy of Thersion. 

‘You can’t find him even though he’s this close?’

Even though the heir lost in the Grand Duchy of Thersion was in a village this close, there was still no news. Alexa let out a deep sigh after staring at the castle for a while.

“This is not the time for me. I need to go back and get some food for that puppy….”

Mumbling loudly, Alexa crumpled the money bag into the pocket of her skirt. She was planning to take the dog to the market tomorrow after work. By now, the puppy should be lying in front of the door, sleeping while waiting for her. 

Alexa quickly ran. When she arrived at her boarding house provided by the inn, the dog was crying loudly that she could hear it outside the door.

“Iing, iing, iing!” 

Tatatatatata! 

Clearly, it was scratching the door with his front paw. In a hurry, Alexa opened the door widely.

“Aigoo, my baby. Our dear prince is crying. Hmm-mm, don’t cry, sister is here. Tuk!”

“Whine, ! Whine!”

He d,  Alexa’s face as if complaining she had come so late.

“Don’t cry. Tuk! Hmm-mm, you’re hungry, right?”

Suddenly, a puppy lying on the floor with its pink belly exposed was panting and looking up at Alexa. She gently stroked the dog’s stomach as if possessed by something, then the dog whacked the floor with its tail as if it was in a good mood while it blinked its eyes. 

When Alexa took off her hand thinking that this much should be fine, “Whining…’

What a bunch of weird stuff. 

There was a clear signal that she should continue stroking it. The puppy didn’t get up and just looked up at Alexa.

In fact, Alexa was thoroughly weak for this little white puppy. She was completely soft against him – because this puppy was the heir the Grand Duke was desperately looking for. Alexa was taken as a prisoner by the puppy and it had re-established itself. 

“Yes? Where, here? Rub you here?”

“Arf!”

She still couldn’t believe the identity of this cute puppy. Of course, it was just a dog now who doesn’t know anything.

Alexa appeared in this novel only a month ago. It was a novel she read every day during her days as Han Yu-Hee, and the title is ‘The Puppy Grand Duke’s Successor Class’. 

(T/N: I don’t know but I was laughing for a whole five minutes with that novel’s title XD )

The male protagonist of the novel had to live in the form of a wolf until the age of 16, thanks to his birth as a beast race. It wasn’t actually a dog but a wolf.

Since he was the first child born from the Suin Tribe for 150 years, no one knew how to properly take care of him – even if he was born the legitimate heir. There was no such thing as a ‘parenting diary’ among the old books in the library. Usually, things like this are passed on from mouth to mouth.

As a result, the members of the Grand Duke’s family did not take good care of the puppy. Then Alexa happened to discover the hungry puppy that ran away from home.

‘I discovered it intentionally.’

Considering the fact that she had searched within the area of accountability to find this child. 

“Keeping…”

When Alexa stopped, she began to gently rub the dog’s stomach in a grievance. Anyway, she was just a passing extra in the novel – a commoner girl who didn’t know about secrets like the Grand Duke. Of course, the one who picked up the puppy and took care of the male protagonist was none other than ‘Han Yu-Hee’.

As far as she can remember, this body, who was an extra, died the same year the male protagonist returned to the Grand Duchy. She was also stabbed by the swords of the knights who came to pick up the male protagonist.

However, since she was alive, shouldn’t she live while she can? Anyway, this place was better than Korea. There were no difficult struggles she had to overcome, nor a jerk senior. Though it was the same that she had no parents….

But at least, there was one misfortune that was relieved. Moreover, being poor here wasn’t a sin. Even if she was poor, she could somehow make ends meet, it was worth living. She felt like she could take a breath seeing the room she has been decorating for the past month. 

But why would he kill me? 

So Alexa pledged. She was originally just giving the little puppy food while it roamed around like an abandoned dog, but she brought it home now, for her to raise the cute dog and raise him into a human being. After seeing the way that dog was following and sprinting after her, would he ever think of killing her? 

The Grand Duke’s family didn’t know how to properly take care of the young puppy. It would have been easier for them to think that he’s a dog, but they knew that he was a wolf. In addition, the author adapted the characteristics of ‘werewolves’ in the novel for the dog so the reader can understand it better. 

A young wolf is similar to that of a puppy since you can throw them raw chicken meat and venison meat…. so it was understandable that the puppy who couldn’t hold his hunger anymore ran away from home. 

(T/N: Ecology is the study of the relationship between living organisms. Trivia why a wolf is similar to a dog, was because they are two species that share 98.8% of the same DNA.

E/N: for those who wish to know more, the term venison is used to describe the meat of a deer or antelope. Venison comes from animals such as our native whitetail deer, reindeer, moose, elk, and several non-native animals such as red deer, axis deer, fallow deer, sika deer, blackbuck antelope, and nilgai antelope.)

This happened after the Grand Duke and his wife suddenly went to the battlefield only one year after having their child. In fact, the Grand Duchess didn’t know how to take care of her immediate offspring after 150 years, so she wondered if things would’ve been better if they hadn’t gone to the battlefield. 

The Grand Duke and his wife were direct descendants of those born 150 years ago. They were in the position to be cared for, not in the position to care. The elders have passed away in the many years of their lives. 

He was the twilight of the long life of the beast people. He was a boon to them but also a misfortune at the same time as he was an immediate descendant born after a long time. No one knew how to take care of the puppy, so the child who was born after a long time almost died of starvation. 

However, Alexa knew how to take care of a puppy. 

‘It’s thanks to reading that novel.’

Isn’t it enough for her to follow what the female lead had done? 

For Alexa to survive, she must become the can’t-live-and-should-die butler of the puppy. This was the reason she was doing her best to look after the puppy. Because if the people of the Grand Duke saw her with a puppy following her, they would try to take her away!  

Alexa didn’t want to die at the hands of the Grand Duke’s knights. 

One year – isn’t it enough for her to live one more year of her life? She knows when she will die. What a foolish decision she made. 

The female lead was the one who took care of the puppy in the novel.

Alexa was going to take her place. She was going to tame the puppy and go to the Grand Duke’s mansion instead of the female lead. That was her goal. Then after that, she can ask them to spare the people of her village in exchange for what she had done for the puppy. .

When Alexa fell into thoughts, the puppy pulled her sleeve to get her attention.

“Ahng! Ahng!”

The puppy, understanding the words from Alexa as it has been living with her for a month, circled Alexa excitedly as it waged its tail. 

Ah, it’s cute. 

The reason she read the novel was because of the description of this cute puppy. She was sure that the author learned about puppies, hence giving them/him pink paws, pink belly, pink nose and ears! 

She fiddled with his ears as if she was in trance. She felt like her heart was at ease. 

“Hehe Aigoo, good boy!”

Alexa continued to think as she put the harness she had cut out of the fabric over the dog’s body.

The Grand Duke and his wife had left the battlefield in the north, and there was still a long way to go before they would return. In the meantime, the butlers and the other members of their family, who lost their young successor, must’ve been on a tightrope right now. They would kill all the people of the village if they noticed about the wolf’s existence. 

Unfortunately, however, the place they found the dog was at the heroine’s place near the village. Alexa diligently searched for the female lead according to the contents of the novel, but she was nowhere to be found. 

‘Am I remembering it wrong?’

That might be the case. It has been a while since she read the novel. She put it off until it was finished but she didn’t have the chance to read it in the end…. 

Anyway, finding the female lead was futile. Alexa was planning to save the people of this village from the wolves of the Grand Duke, who believed that killing people was that simple. 

Perhaps, it was natural for the male lead to become a villain while growing up in such a bloody environment. Moreover, he had ****** a knife at the person who offended him as if his heart was made of ice. 

That’s why before this puppy turned into a human who wielded a sword, her final goal was to get a generous award for taking care of the puppy at the right time and come out of the Grand Duchy. 

‘What if I get stabbed by a knife while staying next to you?’

It’s best to avoid risk. Besides, hasn’t the female lead of this novel been decided already? 

‘I don’t want to be next to him as an extra.’

After all, the Thersion’s bloodline turns into a human at the age of 16 and then forgets all their previous memories. It was a curse placed on the Thersion because they inherited the blood of a werewolf. The curse was passed down to a descendant with the strongest ability. 

He will make his social debut at the age of 20 after four years of Spartan-style infusion education, subsequent to him coming back to his human form. It was possible since his basic stats were all outstanding. 

Anyway, before leaving the castle and if she leaves the puppy to the female lead…. Then the content of the novel won’t be shaken, and it will be good for both Alexa and the puppy. It was a good outcome. 

Alexa, who read the novel, was sure that the Grand Duke does not forget grudges, but also wouldn’t forget her grace. Obviously, Alexa would take care of him for the fortune she can live on for the rest of her life.  

The problem, however, is that the male lead will forget all his memories when he returns to his human form to the secondary  trait. From then on, Alexa will become an ‘unknown person’ from ‘a person with grace’. What Alexa has to watch out for was the human form of the male lead. 

According to the setting of the novel, the male lead was particularly cruel as he was born with a larger percentage of the wolf blood lacking humanity. He presented a ‘human toy’ to the female lead before he was purified by the female lead. The female lead then taught the male lead, Tyler, about human dignity and human rights, and hired a maid he called a toy. 

However, the male lead was clever and good at acting. He killed the maid that got his attention in the absence of the female lead. 

‘You just have to play with toys. No need to be excessive. 

Alexa trembled. This was simply impossible for a one-sided scene. 

No matter how Alexa thought of it, it was better not to get entangled with the male lead when he became a human again – be just like a stranger.

But she wasn’t the female lead that can give the puppy a special name. She just called him ‘puppy this, puppy that’ day and night. 

‘Is it better to give him a name?’

The reason she hasn’t given the dog a name was to not deviate too much from the original novel. Originally, she was trying to run away from everything when she first entered the novel. There were times she would cross rivers with her skirts rolled up, or there were times that she was climbing up mountains for a week. But for some unknown reason, she came back like a person bound to the dog no matter how much she tried to ruin it. She ran away, but she was stuck in one place – like a satellite orbiting the Earth. 

Perhaps if the content of the novel was greatly deviated, there would be restrictions.

‘I think a name would be fine.’

Wouldn’t it be necessary to give a friendly answer to a question like that? 

Once, Alexa had a dog and his name was Happy….

Surprisingly enough, the name seemed like it suited with the current situation because Alexa’s ultimate goal is to be happy and not die.

That’s what I am going to call you until the Grand Duke’s men come. 

“Kiiiiiing…”

Happy, who is timid for a wolf, faltered and hid behind Alexa with its head sticking between her legs. .

Chuckle. Alexa smiled proudly at their conversation. 

‘I guess my dog is smart in the eyes of other people.’ 

I will have to give you a lot of snacks when we get home today.

“Good job, Happy. Now, make a turn!”

“Arf!”

As if he understood it, Happy spun around. You look like a weird ball of cotton, but okay, I will give you two snacks. 

“Last, Happy. Lie down!”

“Wow! Mom, I want to raise Happy too!”

“Mom is too occupied with you.”

“Aww?”

“You can’t.”

Alexa scrunched her nose. Happy is qualified to eat three snacks today. All eyes were on him as he has a cute appearance, but what’s more eye-catching was Happy being obedient as a sheep in front of Alexa. She could hear praises for Happy everywhere, so she was exhilarated. 

She can see the reward of studying behavioural sciences when she attended veterinary school. Though her efforts went down the drain when she died before she could even build a hospital… 

Alexa walked the streets proudly. 

“Please give me this.”

“The chicken ? Tell me where you will use it and I will cut it for you.”

“I’m going to smoke it and make it into jerky.”

“Then it would be better to slice it thinly.”

“Yes, Auntie!”

Alexa replied bravely. 

She then bought dried drumsticks, salmon, rice, eggs, and apples. Though she had something to eat, it was made as a snack for the dog. There wasn’t anything here to feed the dog, so she could just make do with rice, while she added snacks to fill in the lacking nutrients. It wasn’t like his fur and nose were shiny on it’s own. Besides, how strong is the dog? It can run for about two meters inside their narrow house. 

Wasn’t it beneficial to feed him? 

“Let’s go, Happy.”

“Arf, arf!”

Their gazes continued to linger on the cute girl and the dog. Of course, Alexa thought that Happy alone was attracting attention, but the pink-cheeked girl with reddish-brown hair and light blue eyes was also attracting enough spotlight. And there were certainly people who were watching both of them. 

“That dog just listened to her like that…?”

“What do you mean Young Master Ysildus was such a gentle wolf! Are you stronger than the Young Master?”

“You need to see this for yourself, Knight Commander ….”

“Who on earth is that kid…? She must be a great talent. Can she wield magic perhaps?” 

They were the ones Alexa had been waiting for.

The knights, who were gradually expanding their search in the Grand Duchy, witnessed a strange sight in a small town they happened to stop by.

A man in a black robe roamed the village. He was chasing the red-haired girl walking through the market with a baby wolf in a white puppy’s clothing. The girl had red hair and the same blue eyes as the wolf with white fur. It was clear they were the ones they were looking for. 

“Crap.”

However, the problem is that the two of them shouldn’t be together. The man then cast a spell towards the shadow. A gloomy, hell-like voice and a pitch-black crow rose from the dark shadows. 

Crackle ~

The black re flowing through its feathers seemed to gather all the darkness.  

“Go to the tower.”

He must notify the tower of this situation quickly. They had to completely revise their plans.

Sweeping the floor and cleaning the house diligently, Alexa rolled around the skein. Surprisingly, dogs had a similar aspect to cats, so she remembered playing with this skein very well. So, she rolled it up just in case….

“Arf! Arf! Arff!”

He was running after the skein from Alexa. She would kick the thread with her feet then he would tap it with the tip of his nose. As it rolled around with its thick front paws, the thread untied and rolled around. 

She didn’t know what was so interesting about that, but the dog kept running around after it.

Alexa had to work while the puppy was having fun. Right, I have to go to work. 

She woke up early in the morning and made small portions of smoked jerky. I should give him white rice and eggs to make his stomach full…. 

Alexa sneaked out. It was always war whenever she went to work because he would chase after her so fast. He would be hanging on Alexa’s legs or stretching out in front of the door. She couldn’t squeeze his precious body, so she often went to work every day by a narrow margin as she wrestled and soothed him.

This old door is always a problem. When she slowly turned her head back, the puppy was sitting on his  on the floor and tilting his head, not playing. 

Alright. 

‘What are you doing now? Close the door and come here.’ 

That is what she wanted to say to herself.

“Hey, think about it… If I make money, you can eat too, right?”

She was supposed to go to work today quietly, but she missed the chance. The dog was scampering with all his might.

“Hnng …. Hiing! Arf!”

“Ugh!”

Do you still think You are lightweight?

Alexa grabbed the puppy by the tummy as the puppy, who had grown so much bigger than the first time she met it, bumped into her. Fortunately, however, she had a secret weapon prepared for such situations. She pulled out something from the pocket of her apron and threw it as far as she could.

As expected. Alexa got out of the house as soon as possible, avoiding the dog that propelled its body towards the flying yellow apple. She saw him chewing on the apple as she looked from outside the window. 

Aunt Jane, who was wandering in front of the inn, shouted at Alexa. 

“You’re being late again! Come and clean the hall!”

Alexa took a step forward, tying her hair up. Still, Aunt Jane, who is considered to be a heartless person, had left two rice balls for Alexa on the table in the hall. When she looked at this, maybe she wasn’t a seriously bad person at all…. 

“Hurry up eating and start working, you mouse bell-like brat. If you keep on playing around….”

“Yes ~, yes. Is it  ‘I’ll give you ten Deons less’?”

“Aigoo!! My insides are gonna explode! Where did I get such an idiot?” 

Alexa struggled with the two rice balls as she saw Aunt Jane already picking up a broomstick. Alexa ran away from the dull Aunt Jane as she chewed and swallowed the rice ball.

It was based on the judgement that Visten would judge the situation more cold-heartedly than the compassionate butler. And as expected, Visten was coldly watching the whole situation with no mercy. 

Ysildus, the young heir of the Grand Duke’s family, was chasing after a young girl like a good dog. 

“I am sure he was given some sort of drug.”

“Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to understand the overall situation. Was the Young Master Ysildus you know, such a cute pet dog?”

Pet dog – it was a bit rude to refer to their master, but no one could deny it as that was exactly what Ysildus looked like right now. 

“Good job, well done! You have to bring this too.”

“Arf!”

The girl waved the ball in her hand in front of Ysildus, and then threw it away. Ysildus jumped up in the excitement and was even tilting his ears back! He really looked like a dog that listened to its owner obediently. Biting the thread, Ysildus fell flat in front of the girl and perked up his stomach. 

“Look at you. Want belly rubs?”
