CHAPTER 1
‘Akira Arcana,’ that’s my name.
I’m an ordinary, lazy, expressionless student who is struggling in my third year in high school. I don’t have many special talents or achievements which I could brag and introduce to all of you. If I have, then I’ll gladly let you guys know. In such instances, maybe I’ll perform it too.
My parents’ died of traffic collision when I was still five. That accident made me loss my loved ones but at that time I didn’t know they died because my relatives hid it from me. Aunt Wilma adopted me, takes care of me and gave me what I needed to live in order to achieve a comfortable life as she had no kids, nor I had siblings.
I don’t have dreams to begin with, nor do goals to be achieved of. It’s not like my life had no meaning to me as others perceived theirs as a useless and worthless.
Mine is like an old priceless jewel that had to be kept safe because it was the respected master’s treasured thing no matter how cheap and ugly it is. So yeah, I had to live to help my aunt, to remember my parents and the memories they left.
Reading a novel was one of my hobby, people may find it unbelievable that an indifferent person like me like this sort of stuff. I’m not a heartless person, even though I rarely express myself. This was proven when I saved a little girl who was about to be crushed by a track delivery.
I didn’t even think twice saving the girl despite knowing the dangers and harms it will cause me later. The pain was incomparable but as seconds
tick, my body became numb. I could hear people shouting for help around the corner, bet they are panicking seeing the state I’m in.
When the truck hit my body, I found myself lying flat on the ground with depleted eyes yet did its best trying to hold its consciousness because of the will to live is so strong, enough to make me lasts seven minutes then breathlessly blacked out.
At least I did a good job before my miserably life ended. The little girl was safe and sound crying near me, calling me repeatedly.
-Sorry kid, I won’t survive.-
I hope my aunt will be fine without me by her side. She is after all a forgetful and clumsy person, she was the woman who loved me deeply and stayed
by my side when my parents left me alone and too, learned to love her.
I know death is at my doorstep, embracing the abyss is what I can only do judging from my situation. Now I can meet my parents that I long longed to see and be with.
Yet that didn’t come true, I transmigrated into a baby’s body held by a stranger who he called himself as my father and a ragged looking woman lying on a wooden bed looking at me full of affection.
Should I act as their child or do suicide?
(Hi, Author says sorry guys grammar has errors and may confuse readers like you. Writing a story is not as easy as I dream it was, heck I can’t even
update daily. Now I know, I shouldn’t blame authors that they update late and the words are short and had errors. So readers, bear with me. Winked.)

Chapter 2
I had been reborn in a troublesome world. I have transmigrated into the body of a child. Both my parents here worked as a palace servant. The woman whom this child should be calling mom was a maid and the so-called father was working as a guard.
Why I am so unlucky? If gods take a pity on me, why would they put my second parents’ lives and mine on a hanging rope? Everyone knew how difficult royals are, just like this forsaken world, flooded with blood. Battles and power struggles are so evident in this world.
I don’t have the skills to survive in the primitive ways of this world, nor had special powers and cheats. Did gods wanted me to suffer again? Ah, I, a teenager stuck inside a child. Now I have to undergo puberty again, how troublesome.
This world is not what I had expected. Magic and superpowers existed here, but some people can only do things like a normal person could do. It disappoints me, a lot, since I was one of those people. I, as a lazy girl, had to work hard to achieve greater things in this place without magic, only pure hard work.
What should I do? It’s been a week. At this rate, I need to learn how to survive though I am still a baby knowing many can give me advantages in the future.
‘Focus what’s ahead, live a peaceful and comfortable life with my second parents.’ Never fall in love, that’s where your weakest spot appears and make you weak.
My line of thoughts was interrupted.
“Adele, why isn’t she crying?” the man who held me worriedly asked the woman who neatly covers me a napkin. Oh gosh, he pinched my cheek and I only stared at his face in daze.
They must have thought I’m abnormal. Let’s just cry to lessen their burdens.
“Wahhh…wahhh…” I wailed as loud as I can. But instead relief, the man panicked.
“Adele, why is she crying?” Are you nuts? I abandoned my pride and act as a child in order for you to stop worrying about me.
Before I could stop acting, the woman explained to him why I cried. Phew, my lifesaver.
“Hush, dearie, it’s gonna be okay.” The woman gently scooped me from my father’s arm. Then laid me down carefully on the crib.
Not in my boring life, I expected to be treated as a little girl. My aunt may love me, but never treated me like this. It’s so weird.
The woman started to hum an unknown lullaby. Is it because of my body or is it the soothing melody, I don’t know but I manage to fall asleep.
``````````````
“Akira wake up! You need to go to school.” Urgg so noisy. I only knew one person whose voice is as loud as thunder and had the courage to disturb my sleep.
“Five minutes!” I want to sleep some more.
As I predicted, she flipped my blanket resulting me from falling down the bed. The blanket is thick, so I didn’t get a single pain.
I rub my eyes. The sun’s beam kissed my skin. The mango tree’s leaves swayed and twirled by the slight breeze.
“Morning aunt,” I blink my eyes and shifted my gaze from the window to the chubby woman near the door.
“Morning? It’s almost noon, Akira!” putting her fists on the waist, she began scolding me. Great! My morning radio is on.
I frown while she fully open the half closed window.
“Aunt it's Saturday.” I tiredly spoke. She always did this, urging me to get up for school, like every day is Monday. Yes, she’s a forgetful person yet she never once did forget about my well-being.
“Oh, I… still, you should eat your breakfast on time!” the woman was so embarrassed and try to make reasoning.
“Aunt, it’s still 7 o'clock.” Hayst, what can I refute to an early bird.
Without another word, she storms pass to me. Huh, she must have been so embarrassed.
After I stood up, the place had changed.
A woman crying loudly while holding a girl’s lifeless body at the street came into view. My eyes widened at the scene in front of me.
Brown curly hair, loud voice, chubby figure and most of all the person in her embrace made me frozen on where I stand.
No. No. It can’t be.
“Aunt?” I can’t help but call her helplessly. My voice cracked at the realization. Water clouded my vision, and before I knew it, tears came rolling down non-stop.
I watch my aunt begging me to wake up, to come back to her. I want to hug and confront her, but it seems like there’s a force blocking me from reaching her.
“…ily…Lily… baby. My baby.” Another woman’s voice called me nowhere.
Gasp.
“Ah! Baby, my beautiful Lily.” I saw a brown haired woman and made a worried expression. Did she cry? The woman smiled at me relieved.
She was the splitting image of my aunt Wilma. Except for the figure and the straight hair, but overall she looks like my aunt.
Aunt.
I wanted to call her, instead I form some unintelligible sounds.
It’s just a nightmare. I really died saving a little girl. The images showing my aunt miserably crying because of me stabs my heart.
“Don’t cry, mama’s here. Hush.” The woman who resembles my aunt so much wiped my tears and the same time rocking me slowly while humming that unknown
lullaby.
She’s so warm and soft. I lean myself closer to her chest just to feel her heartbeat racing. This woman cared for me deeply since I was born. Maybe I should give the love they deserved as parents. With that in mind, I sleep in her arms peacefully.
Chapter 3
5 years later
“Mom?”
A little girl called her mother worriedly. She got up from bed and realize she was alone. Her breakfast is ready and neatly laid on the table. Her parents must have attended something important.
Before Adele gave birth to Lily, she already quit being a maid in order to take care of her daughter properly and so does Arnold, her husband.
“Please come back safely. I… I am afraid, if Lily knew this, she’ll.” Adele tighten her hold on her husband, she looked up with a teary eye and asked.
Arnold, too, had a complicated expression on his face. In order to be with Lily, his daughter, leaving his position as a palace guard and work as woodpecker is worth it.
Being with the woman he loved and seeing his daughter’s smile light up his day. He will do anything to be with his family even if he had to leave his hard-earned position.
But now, watching her wife pleading silently, his heart ached. Arnold wanted to be with them for a little longer before going to the border to fight the barbarians.
He wanted to witness his daughter grow up having a mother and father but he knew it’s a miracle to come back alive to them, knowing how brutal those barbarians can be.
When you entered the battlefield, there’s no going back. Your life was already hanging on a thread. There’s only a little chance for you to survive.
He had to fight for the kingdom he grew up in order to protect his daughter and wife. They are after all his everything, his world and life. Without them, he had nothing.
Hugging his wife, he spoke solemnly,
“I’ll give up my life just to protect you and Ly.” He caressed her head gently while Adele only tighten her grasp on him.
“Men, we need to leave. Say your goodbyes!” A soldier in charge of sending them to the border shouted.
“Please, promise me you’ll come back safely. Think about Ly.” Adele can’t hold her tears anymore and weep in Arnold’s embrace.
He sighed.
“If the gods will.” He kissed her lips deeply before parting.
Several carriages lined waiting for the recruits to enter inside. The women, children and ladies send their farewell lamentably to their loved ones.
“I love you. Take care of Ly.”
Arnold had his back when he spoke. He went inside the carriage with trembling hands.
The horses neigh, wheels rolling repeatedly accompanied by the peoples’ cries and shouting their goodbyes, then just like that her *other half left.
(Means, husband)
“We love you, too.” She said to no one.
```````````````
In the cute cottage she called home, Akira munches the cookies, which was
prepared by her mother for her.
She knew that her mother avoids disturbing her sleep, especially her father. They left their jobs in the palace so that they can spend more time
with her. What a lucky girl I am.
She was never left alone in the house in a long period of time. When her father went out her mother was with her and vice versa, so she can’t help but be nervous.
Creak.
Akira quickly turns her head towards the door’s direction.
The door opens revealing a brown haired woman smiling dejectedly. Her eyes speak the words she can’t even utter to the girl sitting on the chair munching cookies.
“Mom!” Akira jumps from her sit and started running to Adele.
She got used to them. They manage to open her heart little by little and at last, they stole her love. Of course, her aunt Wilma is still in her heart.
Hugging her mother’s leg, she started asking questions innocently.
“Mom, where did you go?”
“…” Adele don’t know whether to laugh or cry seeing her cute face full of worry.
“Mom, did you cry?”
“…” how can she tell her daughter that her father left to protect the border, fighting the barbarians to death?
“Mom?” Akira tilted her head to the side while blinking her twinkling eyes innocently.
“Sweetie, don’t cry, alright?” Adele stroke her daughter’s head lovingly.
Akira was puzzled by her words, but she still nods.
I’m sorry, Lily.
“Your father went to work on the neighboring country to give us a better life. You know that your father’s income is not adequate to make you study like those nobles.”
Adele was not lying when she said those except for the neighboring country part.
Akira hurriedly refuted,
“But mom, I don’t need to go to school. I can read and write. I even knew different languages.”
Adele was speechless, indeed her daughter was smart for a 5-year-old child, that’s why her husband wanted to make her talents bloom more.
“It’s already too late, sweetheart.” She needed to keep Lily away from the truth. If she discovers it someday, Adele hoped her daughter would understand why she hid it to her and forgive her for keeping her in the dark for a very long time.
“Then, when is dad coming back?” that’s the question Adele wanted to know too.
When are you coming back to us, Arnold?
“When he had enough money, I think.” There’s no exact answer when, so she needed to make at least a close response to her child’s question.
Just thinking about the future, her head throb. She hopes her husband would come back to them safe in sound.
Glancing on the table, she almost forgot to scold her troublemaker for hopping like a rabbit earlier.
“Sweetheart, next time don’t jump while you’re still eating, or you’ll get a tummy ache.”
Akira let go of her mother. Her hands rest on the back, pouting cutely and head bowing down, with her cute acting, Adele shuts her mouth.
She picks her up and carried her like she was still a baby.
“Oh?” she spotted the glass containing the untouched milk.
“Lily? Why didn’t you finish your milk? Did you know how much your father sweat for that just so you could drink that milk…?”
Akira cut her mother’s scolding, saying that she just woke up.
Sigh. Adele regretted saying those.
“Sorry, sweetie. Drink your milk, I had to do something.” Adele place her on the chair. She kissed Akira’s cheek before walking outside the house.
