The stench of blood hung heavy in the air,it also covered my hands and cheeks.A cold breeze swept over me fluttering my cloths and hair.I stood on the alley gazing down at the figure lying on the cobblestone ,clutching at his stomach where my sword had met him not long ago.Blood pooled where he laid, his breathing had already slowed,he laid there waiting for the final blow, waiting for me to end his misery. But I couldn't be so plain, after all I have a reputation to hold.
I waited with my sword in a loose grip and started circling him, listening to his breathing fail. His eyes were closed, the hand over his stomach fell away causing the pool of blood around him to widen.
He slowly open his eyes, his face twisted in agony.Dark eyes filled with hate met mine.
"At least be clean with your job"he choked out, blood gurgled out of his mouth.
"You didn't know, I was dealing with you in my cleanest of ways"I crooned
"You will pay for this monster"he cursed.
Wearing my evil smile I said"I already have and I'm still paying".I raised my sword,my eyes never leaving his, with a whoosh I brought it down. Silence filled the alley not even a dying breathe to be heard.I also felt something break inside me.Something that could never be mended.
I stood there with my sword drawn and dripping and watched as the light left his eyes.I stared at his face long enough for it to be carved into my brain,I turned away from another of my merciless deed ,sheathing my sword,I saw a lean figure slipping out of the shadows and grinned at me.
"you did well champion the king would be pleased"Ruther said. The king,he should be pleased or else the consequence would be far too terrible.Pulling back my hood I faced him"so am I back to the trusted zone" I asked, my voice cool.
" Nah,it has nothing to do with trust, his highness thought you were going too soft at heart, letting the girl live was a mistake you know,I still wonder why you did it".The girl ,I still remember her bright blue eyes wide with fear shifting between me and the sword raised over her head.It was at one of those raid when rebels infiltrated the city ,the civilians always paid for the deeds of the rebels ,to kill their spirit the king had said.
On every one of those raids I made myself not to feel my sword sinking into flesh, not to hear the cries of pain and agony or the warm blood that splattered every time my sword found its mark and each and every time I have won my little battle but gazing into the girl's eyes my hands betrayed me,I cursed myself to swing that wretched sword and be done with it,but the girl's eyes broke through the wall that I had created around myself ,evoking emotions which were buried deep within me to become the king's puppet, which had made me a walking dead though I always left one emotion on the surface,my loathing for the king and his kingdom.
The angelic devil they call me,a devil with looks similar to an angel with thick silver straight hair hanging down to my waist and eyes a mixture of violet, grey and blue.Attired in dark fighting gears and a cape of purest black with tendrils of crimson rising from the hem I did look like a devil straight from hell.
I've become a nightmare for so many, mothers warned their children about the monster who lured people with her looks and left corpse sucked dry in her wake.
I couldn't kill the girl and the failure of kings's champion spread like wildfire and soon reached the castle which had led to this test,to walk into the street and unleash myself.I had done exactly I was told, luckily there were only few rebels stirring up trouble and I did not think this time.I let the devil to the surface and from there everything was a blur of blood and metal. There was only one thing on my mind,as long as I am at the king's good graces he would leave Victoria alone.
Victoria.
My little sister.I still remember the day I was forced to freeze out all my emotions and became the cold and hateful monster everyone fears. The face of an innocent eleven year old girl with bright blue green eyes and dark hair. Her face was twisted in pain, tears streamed down her cheeks as the knife at her throat was pressed deeper drawing blood while I stood there helpless, her pained eyes never leaving mine. That day had changed my life, extinguishing all hopes for a life that I could call life wholeheartedly.
Even after four years I still have nightmares after which sleep completely abandoned me and to escape the stress I plunged myself into excessive training , my skills increased and I lived up to my reputation.
I walked past Diem eager to get away from blood and death towards the huge castle that loomed over the town to meet the man who made me a husk of who I was before .The question still remains unanswered, who I was before all the bloodshed and misery, perhaps I would find out my past or maybe never.
My memory streches back to the day of our capture. There was smoke everywhere and everything around me was aflame in a brilliant gold. The smoke in my lungs made it painful to breath and the tears blurred my vision.I felt a tug on my sleeve,I looked down and saw wide blue green eyes welled with tears ,she clung to me ,her body shaking .A sudden protectiveness took over me,I knew I was going to die and I was going to give up but her eyes pulled me out of my despair and at that moment all I wanted was to get her out but I had failed, before we could escape the king's men had found us and had dragged us to him and he had threatened me to kill my sister if I hadn't became his champion.
I couldn't remember anything about my life before the capture and I don't know if I ever will .
When we reached the castle the sun was already high in the sky spilling light everywhere.Every time I am at the vicinity of the castle my insides starts to churn and a wierd sensation always seemed to settle in my stomach.
Ignoring the cold that crept my bones every time I had to return after my job, knowing that each one of my mistakes could reflect terribly on my sister , the fear of what he would do to her if I fail....
I abandoned my trail of thoughts and tried to focus on the task at hand in the hope that as long as I am at the king's favour he would leave her alone.
I crossed the last few steps to reach the gate , four knights stood at either side of the gate , clad in armor ,each of them carried a long metallic spear along with other formidable weapons. They nodded as I passed through the gate with Diem in tow into the castle.
The Moon castle stood tall and proud at the heart of the city .The walls made of pure moon white marbles glinted from being kissed by sunlight.I stopped as we reached the entrance and grinned at the guards who stood there , they stiffened their hands going for their weapons , their body tense , I let my lips twist in an evil grin , showing them how deeply satisfied I was with their reaction after we got into a brawl two days ago.I had beaten them up pretty bad.Having returned from a raid I wanted something to take my anger out ,so I had gone looking for trouble and ran into these guys who were taking a swig , I have provoked them into fighting me.A sore body and a few cuts were nothing compared to the storm in my mind ,I invited the pain and let myself drift in the whirlwind of swords.
Without a second glance at them I stepped into the castle.
Inside of the moon castle was as extavaganent as the outside.Huge pillars of white marble lined either sides , their heads bathed in gold. Roof high windows adored the walls with their beautiful engravings on the sills.Dark crimson curtains hung on every walls, the dark of crimson so stark against the white of marble like blood on snow.Exotic murals representing ancient lands and historic battles covered every corner of the castle so wonderfuly detailed they appeared to be brimming with life.
If my life wasn't so screwed up I might have been one of whom standing there admiring these magnificient works, I might even have loved this place if it wasn't for the one who ruined my life.
we reached the huge oak doors that led to the throne room and the guards stationed there nodded at us , sucking air into my lungs I pushed open the doors and stepped into the largest room in the entire castle.
The throne room was also a mixture of red and white like every other room in the castle , the floor was polished to the extend one could see their reflection on it. At the Centre of the room atop a raised platform sat a huge throne made of pure black marble and it's head was carved into a snarling leopard and on it sneering at me sat the king.
