Vanir was a prodigy at magic and martial arts. He was always eager to learn more, so once he turned 15 he vowed he would become an adventurer. Fifteen years of age is when humans of most nations of the continent of Midgard become adults.
Vanir walked into the adventurer guild once he was 15 and asked, “How do I register miss?”
The guild clerk said “Fill out this paper work, if you have any other questions feel free to ask!”
“I see, thank you!”
“You're welcome.”
A tough looking adventurer walked up to Vanir and announced rudely, “Weak idiots like you will die in this line of work, you should go look for work somewhere else.”
He just ignored this man and thinking to himself “Annoying”
Vanir walked over to a guild shop, the overhead sign reading Guild Blacksmith, inside the blacksmith there were various shelves, on one shelf there were long swords, swords, short swords, daggers, etc. At the back of the shop there was an old looking man.
Vanir walked into the blacksmith, looked around and gazed at all the Swords, Bows, Shields, and suits of armor.
Vanir saw a sturdy, sharp sword and decided to buy it. He walked over to the shopkeeper, saying “I’d like to buy this sword”
“Ah the Mithrilite sword, this will be 1 gold, and 5 silver coins, the sheath for the sword is 2 silver.” Said the shopkeeper
The clings of the coins in Vanir’s coin pouch ring out.
“Ok, I won’t be needing the Sheath, so here is the 1 gold, 5 silver for the sword.” Said Vanir
“Ah, ok… Please write your name on this Card, to confirm your ownership.”
Vanir signs the card, and it starts glowing gold, with some faint hints of Azure blue and Royal blue
“So is it complete or?” asked Vanir
“Indeed, you'd better take good care of your sword. Ah yes, you should give the sword a name.” The shop keep informed Vanir
“Uh, why should I give it a name?” Asked a confused Vanir
“You don’t know? Basically, giving your weapon a name can sometimes increase its power if it's a magic sword, as magic swords have a mind of their own apparently, I don’t know the specifics so don’t ask. To give it a name, just pour magic into the sword while saying the name.” Explained the Shop keep
“Oh I uh see, well thanks.”
“Anytime kid.”
As Vanir was walking over to the quest board, a man walked over to Vanir and said, “Where’s your sheath?”
“I don’t need one.” Vanir responded
“You could hurt someone or yourself if ya don’t get one, so I suggest go back to the blacksmith and buy the sheath for that sword of yours.” The man said
“I don’t see a need to as I have the skill, magical sheathing. So if you would for to be so kind as to move out of my way, that would be appreciated” Rebutted Vanir
“Ahh, I-I see…” Stammered the man
As the man moved out of his way, Vanir put his Mithrilite sword in his Magical Sheath, A glowing hole opened in front of Vanir, he slid his sword into the hole only with the hilt outside. Vanir took the hilt of his sword and moved it down to his left side of his waist, and secured it there.
Vanir walked over to the quest board and looked at all the quests, gathering herbs, killing 5 goblins, killing 5 forest wolves, etc. He grabbed a quest that read ‘Slay Three Goblins’ he took the worn looking tanned leather over the quest cleric saying “I’d like to take on this quest!” Vanir said excitedly.
He walked down the stone path to the gates, “Hey Tom.” Said Vanir
“Oh, Sir Vanir hello” Thomas said sounding defeated
“Is something the matter, Thomas?” asked Vanir
“Yes, but it is nothing you need to be concerned about…” replied Thomas
“Ya are talkin to me, not some brat!” announced a man rudely
“Uh… Thomas, who was that?” Asked Vanir
“Shut ya trap kid, the adults are talkin.” yelled the man
“I-I uh, I am so very sorry for the person, Sir Vanir!” Thomas bowed, asking for forgiveness
“It's fine, Thomas, it isn’t your fault for some random person’s rudeness. Also, I already told you as I am not in line to become the head, there is no need for formalities.” Vanir said
“Ah right, uh, Vanir let me help this person quickly.” said Thomas
“Oi’ guard, help me already, and stop talkin to that brat.” The man said rudely
“Sorry mister, so about the identification, we can’t let you in unless we have someone to accompany you into the city.” Thomas replied
“Can’t ya just accompany me?” Retorted the man
“Sorry, I can't as I have to keep watch here. Let me call for an adventurer.” answered Thomas
The man was visibly angry, he clenched his fist and was about to scream at the knight. His face was getting red.
As Vanir listened to the conversation The man and Thomas were having, he went up to them and said, “You need an adventurer? Because I just registered, and I am willing to help!”
“Shut ya trap kid, you can’t be no older than 13, and I wouldn’t want some brat to accompany me.”
“You would Vanir? That would be a great help!”
“Why do ya trust this brat so much, knight?”
“Ah, well this kid is named Vanir, and he is the son of a good friend of mine, who also just so happens to be the lord of Deltas”
“Th-this kid is the L-lord’s son?” The man yelled in a panic while somewhat trembling
“Uhm, yes I am the Lord’s son, let me formally introduce myself, Greetings, I am Vanir Zhou Deltaheim!” As Vanir introduced himself, the man started freaking out, sweat was rolling down his face.
“Ah uhh, It's very nice to meet you, my Lord Vanir! Please forgive my rudeness. I had not the slightest” stammered the man he was starting to bow, but he was cut off.
“That’s enough, you are forgiven. Now, would you like me to accompany you to the Identification department?” Vanir asked
“Ah uh, If you would be kind enough to accompany me I would be most grateful, my lord. Ah, right, I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Raizen Ashdown!”
“Then I shall, Thomas, I am going to accompany Raizen Ashdown.”
“Alright then take care”
“Right” Raizen and Vanir said in unison
As Vanir and Raizen made their way over to the identification department, they were both silent, both waiting for the other to start talking. But at the same time in the Kai Woodlands a young lady was running from some monsters.
“Why must this h-happen to me?” she asked while being heavily out of breath and hiding.
As Raizen and Vanir arrived at the department, the bell on the door rang out as they entered.
“Welcome! How may I help you?” asked the identification clerk
“Uh yes, thank you, I would like to get an ID made.” replied Raizen
“I see, let me get the tablet.” said the clerk bending down and lifting a heavy worn and black stone tablet, it had a handprint carved neatly in it. It had gold outlining, and 3 clear and beautiful gems at the top, the middle one red, the left one blue, and the right one being green.
“Please put your hand on the tablet.”
When Raizen put his hand on the stone tablet the 3 gems started to glow and projected a blueish clear screen, it had letters that had Raizen’s name, age, level, etc.
“Is this information correct?” asked the clerk
“Uh yes, is there a problem?” Raizen asked confusedly
“No, so it's correct, good!” Said the clerk
The stone tablet glew a bright, brilliant blue. The clerk took a blank card and put it on the stone tablet, and as soon as she did that, the information of Raizen appeared on the card.
The clerk handed Raizen the card saying “Now, don’t lose this one, or you won’t get another free one.”
“Right thank ya” said Raizen
The clerk nodded, waved goodbye as Vanir and Raizen left the building, and they parted their own ways saying to each other “See you”
Vanir now headed back to the gate and then left to travel over to the Kai Woodlands, he noticed a faint human-like presence with his Sense Presence skill. He wondered “Who or what that could be?” He followed the faint presence, and found some Kai Fang Wolves lurking about. As they aren’t that strong of monsters alone, he took on one by one through silent and sneaky attacks.
“And that should be the last wolf, now let's see what they were hunting” Vanir said cautiously
There were some vines and roots covering a medium hole that a young adult could fit through. And Vanir said into the cave, “Is there A human or beast person in there? If so, I mean no harm and would like to help.”
There was weeping then a soft but sad and scared voice saying “W-who are you?” asked the girl
“Hello, My name is Vanir, and yours?” asked Vanir
“M-my name i-i-is Sylveron… Please help me, wolves are hunting me, I beg of you I’d do anything!” Sylveron begged while starting to cry
“Miss Sylveron, unless there were more than 6 wolves, you have no need to beg me.”
“T-t-there were only 6, yes, um mister Vanir can you h-help me get to deltas?” asked Sylveron, still scared.
“I can, but first we need to get you out of this hole, so grab my hand, and I’ll help you out!” Vanir said while reaching his hand in the hole and Sylveron hesitated for a brief moment and grabbed Vanir’s hand, and he pulled her out carefully.
“T-thank you, mister Vanir!” she said gratefully
“It’s no problem, and please stop calling me mister Vanir, just Vanir will suffice.”
“Ah ok then Vanir…”
“So tell me, why are you so deep in the forest? You do know it is very dangerous this deep in.”
“That’s uhm, something I’d rather not talk about for now, so please don’t ask me about it.”
“I see, I’m sorry, well we need to get out of the forest, so stay close to me.”
“Right, so if you wouldn’t mind my asking, but why were you this deep in the forest, Vanir?”
“Ah, you see, I’m an adventurer and I accepted a quest of subjugating 3 goblins.”
“I see, but you seem strong, and killing 3 goblins is easy…”
“Oh well, they are weak, yes, but I just registered.”
“I see…”
As Vanir and Sylveron walked out of the forest, Vanir killed some horned rabbits, and other weak monsters to turn in for money at the guild. They started walking the road that led to Deltas. as they arrived the guards walked up to them.
“Let me see your ID before you enter!” Said the guard
“Alright here you go.” Vanir handed the guard his guild card
“Good, and you miss?” asked the guard
“Oh uhm, here it is!” Sylveron handed the guard her ID
“Alright you two may enter!”
“Thank you” they both said in unison
As Vanir and Sylveron walked down to the guild, they made small talk and a siren went off, everyone was alert and wondering what was happening. Sylveron started to visibly tremble and shake.
“Is it a monster attack? Or maybe a prison escape? Either way it is not good.” Vanir contemplated
“W-what do you mean monster attack?” Sylveron asked while being terrified
“Hm? As this town is only about one mile from the Kai Woodlands, it is prone to attacks from the monsters, though normally only the F-C ranked monsters attack.” explained Vanir
“I-I see” stammered Sylveron
A voice came over an intercom system that spread throughout the entire town, “Attention, all able adventurers come to the front entrance immediately, there are approximately 200-300 monsters approaching. Attention all towns folk, get inside and stay safe.”
That is the end of this Chapter!
“So an attack? I hope we can hold them off. Sylveron either come and help or go get to safety, either way no one will judge you.” Vanir said calmly
“I-I I am going to help!” Sylveron said while scared
“All right, then follow me!”
As they were racing towards the front entrance hundreds of people were running and getting into buildings, as they arrived at the entrance there were about 40-80 other adventurers. Vanir looked around, and he found his father, so he run up to his father Zorn Deltaheim.
“Father!” Vanir yelled as he was running up
“Vanir? I’m taking it, you are going to help? Well, if so, get ready for a fight.” Zorn said as he sighed
“Ah Vanir, it's been too long?” said a soft-spoken but clearly assertive voice
“That voice… it sounds like mother!” Sylveron said aloud in a surprised voice
“That… Voice… Oh god, may god Astray have mer-” Vanir said in surprise and anguish while being cut off
“He-he, that's no way to talk to your teacher.” Said the voice
“You're right, please forgive me Mrs. Vanderbilt, It is a pleasure to see you again.” Vanir said apologetically, while bowing
“W-wait Vanir, you are one of my mother’s students?” asked Sylveron clearly surprised
“Ah Sylvie, you're safe, I am so glad!” Sylveron’s mother said
“Elizabeth, remember, the monsters, we need to form a plan. There is a Rank A+ monster, the Kai Beowulf, needs to be slain as soon as possible.” Zorn snapped
“Right, I’m sorry.” Elizabeth said, and Zorn and Elizabeth started planning on what to do about the Beowulf.
“There aren’t any A or S ran ventures besides him…” Zorn grumbled
“I’d rather not rely on Godfrey, it would be a mistake to rely on that idiot.” Elizabeth scorned
“Godfrey? Who's that?” asked Vanir
“Godfrey… He is an A + rank adventurer but… he would get so many people killed, no matter what we say he will let his enemy live as he loves a good fight.” explained Zorn
“I see, so a Beowulf is in that horde of monsters… What are the chances that the Beowulf somehow made the monsters come this way?” suggested Vanir
“T-that is a possibility, but how would the Beowulf get the monsters to do that? It is most likely just a coincidence that the Beowulf is in the horde.” Elizabeth replied
After they got done discussing the plan to everyone, they all got in place, Sylveron being a priest she went to the other healers, Vanir was in the front lines, Elizabeth was with the other supporters, and Zorn was up on an archer tower. The front lines rushed forward once the horde got close.
The crimson of the blood, the stench of iron was in the air, there were far, far more than a few hundred monsters. Vanir was nearly attacked by the Beowulf. “Thou art strong for a mere human. What art thou name strong one?” bellowed the Beowulf
“A monster speaking? That's rare, but very well, my name is Vanir Zhou Deltaheim”
“Vanir? Interesting name… well I shall’t be rude, my name is Shog-noth. Now let our fight commence!” bellowed the Beowulf, sounding almost happy
“Shog-noth? I see, then I’ll fight you…” Vanir yelled.
Shog-noth and Vanir clashed and traded blows. Shog-noth who stood on his hind legs attacked Vanir with his claws that were as hard as adamantite. The sound of their weapons clashing rang out around the flatlands around Deltas.
“Isn’t that Vanir and the Beowulf?” Zorn yelled out in a confused voice
“My lord, I believe so, but it's unbelievable that someone his age could fight on par with a A+ monster” Thomas said
After hours, all the monsters were dead or dying, but Shog-noth and Vanir were still fighting even after many hours of almost continuous fighting.`
