For a highschool student like me, they call the infatuated feelings we felt for others, a Puppy Love.
I wonder what a Real Love looks like. What does it felt like?
I'm pretty sure that most of the kids around my age also thought about this questions. They said that at this age of people's life is the time were many people were caught by their own curiosity.
I guess, It's my own curiosity. I'm so curious about what true love is.
"Hey Zen, let me copy your Assignment!!"
The boy who sits in my back seat called me while holding his English notebook.
"Eh, What should I?", I asked him sarcastically while raising one of my eyebrow.
"Tsk. You're really something", he sighed. "Your lunch later is on me, is that alright?"
"That's it. You really know me, Ming", I grinned and handed him my English assignment.
Ming clicked his tongue and suddenly move closer to me, ready to ask me another thing again.
"Oh right, I heard that we will have a new English Teacher in replace for Mrs. Lin whose going to transfer in another school."
"A new teacher? I haven't heard of that". No one informed me about this new teacher. I wonder what is she like? I wish she is an easygoing and kind like teacher Lin who always tells a story about her love life during her class.
"I heard, the new teacher is young and has no experience in teaching in highschool. He's a newbie teacher", Ming added.
"I guess that would be better. That means she will go easy on us."
"But being a newbie teacher doesn't mean he's not going to be strict. I heard from the students in other class that he's really scary."
"Eh..", I sighed. "Let's just see".
The school bell rang after that. As a sign of the start of the Morning class. Students run back their own seats and started to fix their self to look more presentable.
Our first subject is the Chemistry class, next will be Math class, then English for the last subject before lunch.
The time just passed by swiftly like how I didn't noticed the time in every classes. I'm just looking outside the window, feeling listless as usual, but I never realized that it's already the time for our last class, the English subject.
After our Math teacher walked out in our classroom, a young tall man with a square-framed glasses walked in.
He must be our English teacher. Just then I realized that the our new English teacher is not a "she" but a "he".
My classmates were stunned by his appearance and our classroom was dominated by his presence.
"He's quite good looking", Ming whispered on my back. "But of course, I'm much more handsome."
I stared at that man in the front of the whole class intently. I suddenly felt like he's a very familiar person. Maybe someone I knew before.
Why do I suddenly become so tense...
"Good Morning Class..."
That voice, it sounds also so familiar.
"Let me introduce myself, I'm your new English teacher, My name's Jade Dan. You guys can call me Mr. Dan", the man said with his straight face.
J-Jade Dan!?
So that's why he's so familiar. He's my brother's best friend!!

I'm sitting right here in my english period while having a cold sweat for no reason.
Maybe I was just in shock to see my brother's childhood best friend as my english teacher after not seeing him for five years.
I was still a kid back then so I'm hoping not to be acquiant by him. If you're wondering why, It's because of my embarrassing moments in the past. If really possible, I don't want to be remembered by him and stay as a student and familiar stranger to him.
I'm not really sure if he still has a contacts with my brother but he haven't mention him for years.
You know what I mean, friends can't stay friends forever.
Maybe they're not as close as before, if they ever reunite.
I just can't help but to sigh to relieve some tense.
"Okay, let's get to know each other first, I want to get familiar with you all. I'll start checking the attendance. Raise your hand and stand up if I called your name."
"Yes sir," our class answered in chorus.
"Mina Lee..."
"Present, sir"
"Danny Rei"
"Present"
...
He called my classmates one by one according to the list he's holding. And my name is getting closer to be called.
"Ming Shen"
Ming raised his arms and stands up in his seat behind me excitedly. "Present, sir!!"
"Hm next is...Zen...Codi?"
D-did I already heard my name?! I immediately stand up on my seat and raised my hand hesitantly.
"Err.. present....sir."
Gosh, so awkward.
He stared at me intently that made his forehead wrinkled.
This is bad.
He might recognized me. I really hope not.
He clicked his tongue and pointed his finger on me.
"You know, you look like someone I know."
Oh no, please don't...
"Ha ha ha", I gave him an awkward and a fake laugh.
"Many people says I look alike with the child actress who played in one of the famous musical!!"
"I guess so...," Mr. Dan immediately gave up the thought.
I seated back on my seat with a sigh of relief. He's really a sharp person, just like before. I'm glad that he believed what I told him, I hope my answer could satisfy his curiousity and no longer ask.
And just like how people breathe, the time went by so quickly...
and so, the whole afternoon class ends here.
I was walking out from the school gate when a guy's hand stopped me by grabbing my shoulder.
An active energy emits from that boy's body. It is obviously Ming.
"Hey hey, Zen, let's walk together!!", Ming said enthusiastically.
"Isn't your house on the other way?", I asked him.
Is this guy has no sense of direction? Tch
"Er, yea...I'll go then..", Ming replied awkwardly while pointing at the opposite direction.
"...okay"
Is it just me, but why is he talking to me like we haven't talk for a long time? Why is he being so awkward? Does he have problems that he want to talk about and that's why he want to have a little advice from me while walking home? What kind of problem? School? Family? Love-life?
No. Maybe I was just thinking too much. Alas.
...****************...
I finally arrived in front of our house. I wonder what our dinner will be.
Sigh, I'm so dead tired from school. I can't wait to stuff my stomach with food and go to sleep.
When I reached our front door, I slowly twisted the doorknob and push the door lightly to open.
"I'm home!!—"
I suddenly saw a tall shadow casting over me. I suddenly feel tense and unsafe for some reasons. Who's this person? The shoulder's pretty broad, it is man's. But I'm pretty sure it's not my brother.
There's a terrifying aura coming out from this man. Who's this?
"Ah, you're Zen, right? So that's why you're familiar..."
Wait..This Voice....
I slowly looked up to see the man's face. I suddenly felt a cold sweat coming out from my sweat glands.
Eh!? t-this is....
"It is really unexpected that you'd be one of my student in the future. You're grown up now...Zen"
The man staring at me while smiling slightly is my teacher, the unforseen inconvenience, Jade Dan.
Yes, this isn't written before, unpredicted and unexpected.... and yet so Awkward.
"Ah, you're Zen, right? So that's why you're familiar..."
Jai walked-in at the right moment. Staring at the two of us, holding his laugh. That bastard was my older brother.
"pffthaha. hey, Zen. How's Jade as your teacher?", he asked kiddingly.
Why did I thought they won't be close enough after not meeting in a five years. So naive. They could always talk to each other through emails or social media. Sigh. But surprisingly, they don't change how they talk to each other at all. Is that how best of friends they are?
"S-Sir Dan teaches well", I automatically answered.
"Sir Dan? I can't get used to hear you saying that haha. You used to call him Ugly back then"
what the...
Why did my brother bring that up?!
"geez. You're the only StuPidly UGLY here!!", I said out of anger.
"Haha, see that? She must be scared that you're going to give her low grades for how she treated you when she was a kid. Look how you respect him now", brother added. "When did you learn sucking at other people, Zen."
I can't help but to feel the annoyance that my brother keeps emitting. I want to keep his mouth shut for good.
"Don't worry, Zen. I don't keep grudges", Jade Dan said with a straight face.
"THERE'S NOTHING LIKE THAT!!"
Nothing changed. Jai is still childish as what he is used to be. Only the good thing about him is that his money he is earning from his coffee shop. And Jade Dan was still the same also but I learned to respect him more now since he became my English teacher. I can't bring myself to bother him now like a playful child.
I think, I'm the only one who really changed.
We ate dinner this time together with Jade Dan. Everything went smoothly. Smooth as how I swallowed the food to my stomach.
But they still didn't drop the topic about me being one of the students of Jade Dan from now on. It's annoying that my ear almost got molds. They keep snickering and teasing me in our whole meal.
It's tiring.
I guess that's the main topic of our conversation besides asking Jade Dan 'how are they'.
I remembered when my brother ask Jade Dan why did they came back and he started telling this story about why they moved out 5 years ago.
He told us that his father built a branch of their little brewery business in a province to expand it. They make and sells beers. That's why their whole family moved out in the city. But then, two years after, their business went bankrupt because one of his father's business partner corrupting the money from the brewery.
Because of the bankruptcy, the workers of their brewery didn't get payed by the right amount of their wages and decided to fired the few of them. Many of them protested for what happened, until one of the workers in their despair plotted to kill his parents. The culprit of their parent's death was captured not long after.
Jade Dan is still in his 2nd year of college at that time and his brother is in first year of highschool. Left with the money from their parent's savings, He decided to finish studying college in the province taking an education course. After he graduated after 3 years, he immediately looked for a job in the City and bring his little brother, Lou, with him.
And he ended up teaching on my school and became my English teacher.
I never knew this before but this is not a secret they want to kept in the dark.
Honestly, I was moved after hearing this story. It is really admirable how Jade Dan became independent at a young age, losing their parents and acting as the head of the family at the same time. If I were on his position at that time, I'm not sure if I could still stand on my two feet just like he did.
I think he can gave all for someone special to him. I guess, he is someone reliable.
I'm no match to him.
