It was all dark for me, there was no light in my world. I am blind. A useless person, A shame to my Tribe, that's what I am called. It has been years since I was banished by my own mother, the Alpha of the Tribe and losing my home, my pack, I became a Rouge. I was satisfied that my mother let me bring my support with me, the only thing she allowed after my continuous begging. It was my father's 5th Birthday Gift to me and my Life's Gift.It was a Humanoid Robot, Aden.
It has already been 6 and half years since we started our life in the small cottage near the Forest. It was already run-down. At least, this is what I could feel from the raindrop in my hand and the continuous thrashing on the roof. It was raining for days and it is continuing today too. There was no food in the house anymore. I asked Aden to arrange for food. He is really a great help.
Our daily life was simple, it started with breakfast and ended with dinner like everybody else. Sometimes, we had to go hungry. Except that, I sold my embroideries to get enough money for Aden's Management and to buy these and that useful item. Aden too worked as a labour sometimes to meet the deed. We had a tight budget, so I never had the luxury to buy something tempting.
Nevertheless, it was our sweet time-pass in this colourless world.
Sometimes, people ask me that don't I wish to see the world?
I am in awe that why would I wish for that? Isn't feeling the sadness enough? Do I have to see it to feel more broken?
I could hear the splashing sounds of water. Aden was coming back. The only thing that I regret is, I can't see him, the man who has always been my support.
"Is anyone here?", A faint voice could be heard.
Hmm? It's not Aden… Who is he? What is his reason to be in the deep forest in the evening?
I picked up the wood beside me and located it on the ground to see if there was anything. Most of the time, the little animals keep taking refuge in my cottage, though they are always naughty but when they are tired from their daily tattles, they would rest in the ground. I didn't want to hurt them nor did I want to disturb their rest. It was fun to have them as company. Now that I think about it, there are Four Companies in my life. One; Aden, Two; My Animal Companions, Three; People who keep nosing around in my business and Fourth; Strangers, Like the person who came here.
He must be a Traveller who couldn't travel in this Heavy Storm and is looking for a Refuge.
*Knock* *Knock*
"Is anyone there?"
I didn't like to Talk so, I kept silent and moved towards the door.
*Thwack*
The sharp voice hit my ears as my hand brushed over something sharp.
Wha… What happened?
"Oh no! Are you okay?", A worried man spoke out.
"I… What happened? The door…", I was afraid and got angry at the thought of the door getting broken.
"How can you just break into someone else's house?!" I screamed.
No sound came, except the sounds of the wind and rain. I was more afraid of this silence and grabbed the desk, near me.
"Whe…?", I was going to complete my words when…
"I don't think it's a nice manner to stand your guests up in the heavy Storm!", He said arrogantly.
I know where he is coming from but, does he think a Blind's life is so easy or does he think that I can be easily bullied?
I sensed his breath and looked towards him, "You aren't my guest…". It was literally a tight slap on his face.
I know it, whenever we hint out the truth or wrongdoings of a person, most of them literally get a tight slap on their face, instead of taking them as motivation. I have rarely seen someone with a broad mind. For an arrogant person like him, it would exactly be a tight slap.
"Whatever…", I felt him go inside saying that. It was a surprise for me. I had already prepared to get a Slap. I sighed as the raindrops fell onto my skin. The door was destroyed now. It seems I need to ask Aden to repair it. I hope no Ferals attack today, as I remembered Aden would be busy in the City.
I was going to cover up the opening with a plastic cover, which was bought for emergencies, when I felt a hand in my hand. It was smooth and cold. It felt like it was yet to experience the tiresome and rough daily work.
"I am Sorry, okay? I will pay you for the repairs and for helping today." It was an unexpected call from him. I never thought an arrogant man like him could be so cute…
"Ouch!", As I was going to leave from the grasp, I fell onto his hard chest. It was all wet and I could guess the reason why he was so frustrated now.
"Umm… Sorry, I will get you something to wear, I am not sure if it will fit though… But let me light up the fireplace." I was feeling extremely guilty as I judged him without feeling him.
"Thank You…", it was Gentle…
"You can open up your shirt and lay near the fireplace…"
"Huh? Yeah?", I could feel him stupefied.
"You can get ***** and lie down near the fireplace…", I repeated.
"Wha… What are you, A Pervert?!" He spoke flustered.
"Why would I be a pervert?", I asked him in disbelief!
Even if he gets *****, it's not like I can see him nor do I want to see him. What's so interesting about him, anyways?
"Miss. You are beautiful and have your own talents. Why are you trying to destroy them?"
I looked at him strangely. Me? Beautiful? It's the first time someone complimented me as beautiful. I heard many people complimenting each other but I am always labelled as ugly. I looked towards him strangely. I don't think there's any light. I feel headache and pain when there's any light. I guess he is clueless about me being blind.
A long awkward silence followed in the room. I kept staring at him. I didn't know what he was doing.
I wouldn't lie that I wasn't scared when I bought an unknown man in my room but his unexpected reaction already made me believe that he is a genuine person.
"Hng…", I felt a sharp headache. It must be the lightning. I hate light.
"You…", he was saying something but I chose to ignore it.
I knew that once he found me blind, he would also be disgusted by me. I wasn't afraid to be disgusted but I was afraid of 'light'. It gave me a sharp headache and also gave me bad memories, I wish to forget. I clenched my eyes in pain.
"You are… blind?" He asked in a questioning tone. Before he dragged this conversation on, I nodded. I thought I knew what would come after that but I was wrong… He held my hands, brought me closer to him and hugged me tightly, it was contrary to my expectations. I was surprised, why he did that but he just kept patting my back like anyone would do to console a child. It was warm. It felt like the summer breeze in the forest. It felt approchiable. I unknowingly hugged him and sniffed. My heart felt heavy, it wanted comfort. I never felt to rely on someone this much like I am feeling now. He didn't push me away nor did he say anything. We continued till the lightning stopped and I felt no more pain.
"It's okay… It's okay…" he still continued to console me.
I looked towards him by navigating his voice, and asked strangely, "Why… Why were you not disgusted by me?"
I couldn't figure him out as he made no sounds nor could I watch him. I really hated this moment. I never had any wish to see the world but I really hated my weak self mercy on others.
I heard footsteps getting away from me, I looked down. He is also disgusted by me. This proves me wrong, when I heard his breath next to me again. He felt more wet as he handed something to me. My hands felt something wet, cool, smooth and squishy. It took me some time to understand what it was. I gently rubbed over the surface. It was…
"It's a four-leaf clover, it's believed that… it gives good luck and prosperity."
I never knew that, it was going to be my strongest belief later.
Good luck and prosperity? I rubbed all over it again. No one had ever wished me luck, let alone prosperity. What prosperity can I get? I tried everything in my past to not let myself get hated but such a simple wish didn't get fulfilled.
"Can this small thing really fulfill my wish?" I asked him.
"We need something or someone to believe in to live our life… Let it be your belief!" I was unaware of his expressions but it must have been gentle and caring. I nodded and sniffed a bit. He didn't ask me any questions about why I was crying silently. Probably, because he was aware of this bloody truth!
I heard his breathing going towards the fireplace.
"Wait up!" I tried to stop him, but it didn't fail but I was already over the sharp tins that were kept for placing them on the roof. I felt my blood oozing out, I felt pain all over the body. He quickly took me up in his arms and placed me on a smooth and soft surface. I knew it was the bed, only that fitted it's description.
"How did you…"
I knew what he was going to ask me so, I didn't let him waste his breath and answered, "I may be blind, but I can feel the objects around me."
"So… blinds really do have…"
I cut him off again, "I don't know about that… I only know that I can map out my house"
"What about outside?"
"I… I don't like to visit outside… I am an Introvert…" I replied back.
I shrieked as I felt cold water on my hand.
"Don't be afraid, Miss…" he stopped, it's probably because we had yet to introduce each other.
"Leia… I am Leia… Nice to meet you…" I really did a lot of unexpected things today!
"Nice to meet you too… I am D… Derek…" He hesitated as he said his name. I believe him, I said to myself but my memories said otherwise.
The people I had believed were the reason for my present state. I tried to believe them all I could but, in return I only got betrayals. I won't call myself pathetic, nor poor but there's always a strange pain whenever I think about it.
"Which pack were you from…?"
Now, this was a question I didn't want to answer. I kept silent. He kept up with my issue and asked no more about it. He still continued… "Do you live alone?" I nodded no.
"Oh! You must have a mate!"
No, I don't but I didn't have the energy and wish to tell the truth as I knew very well that having a mate is thousand times safer than being alone.
"Wouldn't your mate be angry, if you allowed another man in the house when you are alone?" I nodded no.
Why would he hate it? He… is just a robot… not my mate…
"Your mate, must be nice!" He sure is… he is my supporter, my only supporter in this lonesome world.
"But… don't just let anyone enter the house, okay?" He said gently, as I whiffed the aroma of herbal medicines.
I didn't keep quiet this time…
"I didn't let you in…" He must have behaved shocked as he stopped applying the ointment. I continued, "You forced yourself in…"
"I… I am sorry, okay? Don't be so petty, Miss. Leia…"
I could feel the sarcasm in his voice. Still, he was the only person who encouraged me.
"When is your Mate going to come?" I kept silent as I wasn't aware of it. He sighed.
"Wha…" I interrupted him just when he was going to say something.
"You talk too much, you know?" My communication skills suck. Also, I didn't want someone to blabber non-stop in front of me.
"Ha ha…I guess?" He guesses? Doesn't he understand it yet?
"Tap-Tap"
There were the agile footsteps which could be heard. We both were on guard. The footsteps mixed well and formed rhythm with the storm. I whiffed the air, I could feel Derek doing the same. It was to find out his location. Strangely, I could only whiff the fresh, pleasant and clean smell of the wet soil. He held my hand tightly and whispered, "Be ready to run… if we need" His hand was strong and rough, full of hard work. Anyone could understand how fit he is. Again, I was proved as a burden. If he was alone, he could have easily fought with the roughs. I withdrew my hands forcefully. My hand was warm with his heat.
"What…" he was going to lecture me but he found out… The oily smell was all over… It didn't take me long to stop him from fighting the creature! He was surprised but…
"Leia… Who is he…?"
It was none other than Aden!
"He… he is my Mate!" I shouted while blocking his way.
"Oh… sorry for the commotion…" he said awkwardly and continued… "I am Derek, I am a Traveller but there was no shelter in the heavy rain… So…" he left out the rest of the words…
"I see… It's fine…"
The atmosphere was awkwardly silent. Neither did I favour non-stop blabbering nor did I favour awkwardness. So, as to break the silence, I brought a thinkable question. Where will we sleep???
The house had only a bed, a kitchen and dining, a bathroom and a storage room. Aden and I would always sleep together in the bedroom so that I could get his help. But with the arrival of a newcomer, it was a great problem about where to sleep. Derek offered to sleep near the main door to keep an eye on the Rouges but that idea was thoroughly rejected by us as it wouldn't be safe for him and he could also catch a cold. Aden also repaired the door in minutes while Derek kept apologizing. They both were discussing how to arrange the positions as our house was too small. The storage room was filled with dust and small old boxes. I wasn't aware what was inside it but we bought it when we were thrown away from the pack. It was something to do with Aden, I always wanted to check out what was inside it but what's the use of it? I can't understand it anyways. I cooked the meals, Derek's voice cried out of surprise but it was easy for me when all the items were arranged. I love the feeling of Smoothness in my hand. It feels pure and clean. Some feel thorny but there are so many mysteries underneath. I am intrigued by leaves and plants. Maybe because my father was the pack doctor and he taught me various skills. Some medicines, poisons and Antidotes. Whenever I feel the various plants on my hands or their sweet aroma, it gives me pleasure. Of course, my education stopped after getting thrown out when my father went missing. I haven't heard from my father for Seven Years! All these years, I only played with the plants that Aden bought.
My dinner was ready by now and it seemed they both made the decision.
"Leia… We…"
Aden was going to complete his sentence when Derek shut his mouth and nodded furiously, "No… no… I am telling you!" I knew that Aden had found out some weird solution. "I can just sleep in the dining room!" As he completed his sentence, I had a quick walk inside the dining room. I knew that he would be looking as if I were some kind of weird creature. I sighed as I calculated the room size. I wouldn't even fit inside the dining room! I have to bend my knees all night to sleep then, what about him? The length was a bit large to fit ourselves in for dining but it can't ever fit a sleeping person there! They already understood what I meant as Derek sighed.
"Leia… let's sleep all together!"
I coughed up! Is he serious? The rules… no, it was taught by my pack! My father only taught me to be honest, help others and gain freedom! So, there was no need to follow the bloody rules of the pack. Instead, I agreed to sleep together.
Derek firmly and continuously kept rejecting the idea but we both were firm on our decision too and he finally had to awkwardly agree. Aden excused himself by taking his plate of food which was necessary for the act. I and Derek were having our dinner when… "Where is the Oily smell coming from…?" I looked up as Derek kept whiffing, I followed him but I didn't need much time to understand that, it was Aden! Whenever Aden is overworked, he would give an oily smell. It was no different this time too. I didn't know what it was and why it happened… I didn't have any idea about it but I did know that his energy would be a lot lower after coming back from tedious work. I guess, robots aren't that much different from humans…
"The smell is…" as Derek tried to investigate more about this, I was out of my tensions.
"Derek…"
