Freydah roamed through the crowd of nicely done up women in their delicate dresses and men clothed in armor, some of them remaining on guard.
She stole a mug or two of ale and glanced over at the boy far from her sight. He was tall, sharp jawline and unrealistically handsome. The boy made eye contact with her and her soul was devoured by the look of his dark fearless orbs.
"Freydah!"
The girl lost eye contact with the boy and looked in the direction that the voice was calling for her with sudden abruptness. "What?" She spoke.
"Where are your manners young lady!"
Freydah sighed then repeated more politely.
"I apologise my lady, what can I do for you?"
The women seemingly wanting to scold her stopped herself and said, "Have you seen lady Pansy's daughter by any chance?"
Freydah couldn't quite recall the last time she had seen Eldia, however, it was not her responsibility. It was up to the maiden to know her whereabouts.
"I wouldn't have a clue. Sorry," Freydah bowed respectfully to the maiden but still she had never liked her. Lady Pansy's house maide would always irritate her whenever Eldia and Freydah ran off without shoes on.
The night was warm and laughter grew louder by the sound of the instruments and wine. Freydah laughed with her fellow family and friends and she was very happy for her brother and best friend on this happy occasion.
"Ahem," a deep voice cleared his throat and she turned back only to meet his dangerous eyes.
"Good evening," he bowed.
Freydah bowed back generously and blushed a bright shade of hot pink however this was not noticable since her makeup blended with her cheeks.
"May I?"
He held out his hand and offered to take her to the dance floor. She kindly responded, "I would love to," he cheekily grabbed her by the waist and clasped her hands with his then slowly he begun to move himself.
They moved in sync and she couldn't help but resist the temptation to clash her lips with his.
"A beautiful night for a beautiful wedding don't you agree?" She nodded her head in agreement and said, "It is a very lucky night." He smiled at her and so did she.
Freydah swayed with the movement of his body and she knew he was looking at her and so she giggled.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
He tightened his grasp around her waist and pulled her closer. "I'm looking at a goddess." He whispered.
Her heart raced and she felt for a moment as if she misheard what he had said. She hid her face in his shoulder and as they slowly paced around in circles a pair of eyes beamed from across the pit of the fire.
Jealousy and shame grew inside of him. He wanted her. He wanted her bad but he knew it was sick to think that he could be with his sister's best friend on the night of her marriage to Freydahs brother. He locked eyes on the boy she was dancing with.
A fool he was.
His grip on the goblet was enough to make a dent as he watched her lay his head on the boys shoulder.
"Marcel!" He snapped out of the trance and shook his head.
"Yes?" His sister stood beautifully in the now visible moonlight that was beginning to ascend her eyebrows perked.
"I called your name three times! Are you alright? You look disturbed?" He went to go and drink from his goblet but he had already finished his drink.
"You're not okay... You're pretending to drink an empty cup of who knows what is in there so tell me," she sat down on the bench next to him. "What's going on?"
He placed the empty cup on the table and grinned at her. "I'm just happy that you're happy," he quickly answered. " I'm glad you and Elijah are together and I wish you ever lasting love. Tonight is the night of the blue moon sister. We will worship our goddess Diana and invite her to join us during this lovely night."
She smiled at him warmly and for a split second he thought he'd seen tears spill from the corners of her eyes.
"Thank you so much Marcel. It means so much to me." They exchanged smiles and she messed his hair before leaving to find her husband.
"Did you enjoy that?" Dondre removed his hand from her waist and she felt she had caught a fever by the sweat on her hands after they detached. "I did. Thank you."
She wasn't nervous to smile this time but rather accepting.
"It is time for me to leave. Good night beautiful Freydah."
Her heart raced again and a rush of excitement rushed through her. She bowed to him and watched him leave until she could no longer see him. She bite her bottom lip and looked up at the starry night whilst reminising the very moment she had with him.
"Freydah," her moment of appreciation had dissapeared and she poked her head around the corner of a barn house and followed the whisper.
"Who is it?" She asked cautiously.
"It's only me Marcel!" Helga's younger brother Marcel lead her behind the barn house where they could not be spotted. She found it rather odd that he brought her somewhere quiet and away from everyone else.
"I-I need to tell you something," Freydah looked back so nobody could see or hear them but really she was expecting to see Dondre.
"Go on, what is it?" She whispered.
He chewed the insides of his cheeks nervously and he couldn't make eye contact.
"I-I think I'm falling for you Freydah. I know it's wrong and all but I can't help but enjoy every moment with you. You make me happy." The night suddenly got colder and the wind begun to whistle.
Something was bothering her. Not the confession he made but the pair of eyes watching her every movement.
"Are you alright? You seem standoffish," Marcel looked behind him at the direction where she was looking but there was nothing.
"Did you hear what I said?" He repeated. She took her eyes away from the trees and said, "Well you know what I think?"
She placed her hands on his shoulders and a tinge of red spread across his cheeks.
"I think you have had to much ale." She gave him a quick nod and turned her back towards the crowd again.
"But, wait - trust me Marcel you'll feel better tomorrow!" She hurried off leaving him alone once again.
Freydah arrived in the small hut calling for her friend. She swore she had seen her curly locks silhouetted in the bushes when she spotted her.
"Eldia! Eldia!" Still no answer.
"Where could you be?"
The wind blew heavily and her hair waved with chocolate brown locks treated neatly into a braid on both sides of her head. Her dark brown eyes now coated with the bright full blue moon illuminating from above. She gazed at the giant orb blending in with the night sky, a smile rested on her face and although she shivered, Freydah was coated by the warmth of the fire pit smoke rising to the branches of the trees and blending in with the light clouds.
"My dear goddess Diana it is a beautiful night you have prepared for us. We welcome you to join us for the feast and welcome a new beginning to my brother and his now beloved wife," she breathed in the fresh air and closed her eyes.
She felt peace, light and comfort.
Her eyes flashed open the moment she had heard familiar screams coming from the dark forest.
Immediately she fell out of the trance and proceeded to follow the screams whilst calling her name.
"Eldia! Eldia! Where are you!"
She didn't care what kind of trouble she was getting herself in just as long as her friend was safe was all that mattered to Freydah.
She almost stumbled many times but still she was quick to get to her feet again and boost through the forest floors towards the now silent environment.
She looked left and right but could barely see a thing, the moon had been covered in what now seemed like dark clouds including the sudden wind that was now strong like the current of the ocean.
"Eldia! Where are you?" Panic and stress consumed her and she had no clue what to do. She was far from the village but still remained in a distance to track where she had come from.
The moon was now exposed to the darkness and she found very little light from the lit torches in her village.
Freydah gasped when she heard twigs snap in half and footsteps walking from every direction. She grasped onto her gold jewel around her neck as if it would protect her.
The steps were more audible until all was filled with silence.
The moon exposed itself from behind the clouds and it was too late.
She was pulled back from behind and a hand wrapped over her mouth and nose to prevent her from breathing. She squirmed uncontrollably but could not defend herself. Another shadow came from her side and avoided her every kick as another figure came from the other side to cover her face and shackle her hands.
She attempted to scream but nothing other than muffled cries were heard. The clouds faded and the moonlight shone brighter than ever before.
