I sat in better position on the hospital bed so I could read better. I opened the book on the side where I ended up and deepened into the story. Before I ended up in the hospital as a patient, I worked as a nurse. I tried my best to do my job, but something came up that nobody expected. The new virus, which got here even in Italy, began to spread too quickly. No one had any idea that I would end up infected. Fortunately, my condition has been stabilized so far. But since then, I have a nickname infected Nora. Well, I don't even know who I can thank for this nice gift. No one knew that the patients they brought here were infected with this virus. Now just wait. I had nothing else to do.
I went back to the book. Its name was Dragon Princess. Immediately after her birth, Princess Ekima was kidnapped by one of the maids and ran away with her to another kingdom, along with her husband. There they raised Eki as their own kid. The reason the maid abducted her was because the maid had previously lost her little daughter and the fiery haired Ekima reminded her. So the girl grew, and when she was fourteen, soldiers appeared in the country to occupy her and search for their lost princess. Then Ekima found out that her father was not human, as she initially thought. Guilio was half human and the other was a dragon. But mother Dona was just an ordinary man. As soon as they learned of the soldiers, Guilio revealed his second inhuman form before her, and all three of them flew far north. There they hid Ekima in a half-ruined tower. They left her all things and supplies there. Ekima cried not to leave her alone. However, Guilio and Dona assured her that they would come back as soon as they helped people in the village. But she had never seen them again, although they waited day after day. She finally found herself not just an ordinary person, but also a dragon. It took her a while to learn to transform, but the dwindling supplies forced her to do so. Since the tower had no stairs or doors, she had to cope alone. So she was always able to visit nearby villages, try to earn some money by various jobs, or work for food. Four years passed this way, and when Ekima was eighteen, she had lost the hope of seeing her parents again. Then she met Bren, a beautiful white-haired knight with blue eyes. As soon as Ekima saw him, she fell in love. He always wore armor and she was fascinated by it. She tried to catch his attention and eventually succeeded.
I was almost at the end of the book, expecting a happy ending. But what I did not expect at all.
Ekima led Bren to her tower and wanted to show him where she was. When they were finally there and standing together under the tower, Ekima heard a strange sound and turned quickly to Bren. What she heard was the sound of a drawing sword. She frowned, wondering if there was any animal around that could endanger them. But she saw nothing. Even so, the animals did not come here, for she lived here. So she turned to Bren again. But he had already swept the sword straight at her. The tremendous pain she felt when he stabbed her was hardly comparable to the pain she saw in his eyes.
"Finally! You monster that makes my country under the rule of the Dragon Kingdom!" Ekima didn't understand what he was saying, but she saw it in his eyes. She saw herself in them. Monster. But she still didn't understand how she was responsible. She never hurt anyone. He drew his sword and wiped it in a clean handkerchief.
"Disgusting ... What did you think, Princess? Oh, sorry, you probably don't know you're the lost Princess of the Dragon Kingdom. And it was for you that my kingdom was destroyed. Your parents conquered it nicely and destroyed it because they couldn't find you. So to introduce myself to you before death, I am Bren, Crown Prince of the Human Kingdom and Dragonslayer," he said, grinning at the dying Ekima. She knew she would die, but she wouldn't be the only one whose blood would be soaked into this earth. At that moment, she turned into a dragon, and that day that death took not only the dragon princess but also the human prince. The dragon's body and the mutilated human beside it found the villagers after a few days. And that was the end of both of them ...
As I read the last words, I got a cough attack. I couldn't catch my breath. It took almost ten minutes. Since then, I was just gasping, and the cough was getting worse. The hospital staff ran up to me in protective suits and immediately connected me to a lung ventilator because I couldn't breathe by myself anymore. I felt that I had a fever and that my condition was getting worse and worse. This is how I spent the last few days. Until I last breathed...
