Introduction of the story
During King Janamejaya's snake rituals, the sage Vaishampayana, a student of Vyasa, started telling the Mahabharata with great excitement.

Under the guidance of Sutagoswami Shaunaka, the sages arrived at Naimisha Forest. Here, the sages had been performing sacrifices for a thousand years to stop the arrival of Kaliprabha, the destructive age of Kali.
The sages of Naimisha Forest gathered around Sutagoswami, excited to hear the story he was about to tell. With warm smiles, they welcomed him, eager to listen to the great tale he brought with him.
Sutagoswami, sitting in Vyasa's seat, praised the qualities of Gods and humans. He bowed to Lord Krishna, calling Him the First Cause, the Teacher, the Knower of all, the Supreme Truth, and the Eternal.
