In this world you are either gifted or inadequate—though inadequate is just a soft word for useless. The prey get preyed on and the predators sit on top of the world. Unfair you might say. Harsh you might say. But the god of this world is cruel—if there is a god—It would be even more unfair.

To be happy is having the emotions to feel satisfaction, joy, and fulfillment, yet the emotion only lasts for a split second. So what fulfillment are you feeling? What satisfaction do you feel that only lasts for 2 minutes before reaching back to your normal state?

If you have no meaning to live in the first place, why are you able to experience death? If a god had put the weak people on earth why must they also put the elites? Why couldn’t they create a separate world for them?

Anger, hatred, confusion, sadness, horror, and pain were all I felt when I plummeted to my death. Do I get a second chance? I asked myself in hopes that a god truly existed and that he would lend me a hand.

But of course, it was only the world and it’s people that existed. There is no god in this world.

So I layed there, helplessly muttering to myself.

“I hate this world.”

Oh, how annoyed I felt. Oh, how much frustration I felt. Is this truly what your supposed to feel when your at the brink of death?

I wasn’t satisfied.

Weak. I was very weak. So of course I was the target of bullying. I had no friends to have my back. I had no one to lean to. I had no one to complain to. So of course, one day I eventually went insane.

The sky was a hue. The weather was perfect. And my mind? It was racing with emotions. My voice wanted to break. My head wanted to explode. My eyes were dry.

At the edge of the tall building, looking down below, cars moving, birds in a flock, and people walking normally on the sidewalk. It was almost as if I were to fall, right here, right now, everyone would just mind their own business. Not even a single person would care. Or that’s what I would think.

Every time I moved an inch closer my heart would beat faster. I wanted to live. I was dying to live. But there I was dying because my urge to live was too much to bear.

I wondered, would anyone remember me? I wondered, would anyone even care? I wondered, should I have done something instead of being weak?

It wasn’t my choice to be weak, but it was my choice to stay weak—which ended with my death.

I wondered, what does dying feel like? Because I was sure that this didn’t feel like death. It was cold, but then suddenly it was warm. It was loud, but then it got even louder. It was pitch black but then I suddenly saw a city landscape. And before me was a screen saying, “Welcome to The Afterlife Game.”

I suddenly felt tired and hungry. I thought I was going insane. And this screen in front of me? It wouldn’t go away. I started having double vision and started to feel pain all throughout my body. I wanted to scream but I couldn’t, I wanted to cry but no tears came out. Is this hell? I asked myself.

It was only until a few moments later when the screen started to glitch, and the welcome sign had turned into a congratulation sign. “Congratulations, you possess 3 skills.”

“Elemntal ability: Hydrokinesis-The ability to manipulate water.”

“Elemental ability: Elemntal Resistance- The ability to resist all other elements.”

“Special ability: Beserker- Increase of strength, power, and stamina, at the cost of insanity.”

The pain had suddenly gone away and my eyes were fixated on the screen. I must have gone insane, I thought.

And suddenly, it was as if, time had started again. I became more aware of the loud noises and the people that Ihad not seen were now everywhere.

The screen changed once again, this time it changed to the game details.

“Rules: At the city of Alberry no violence should be conducted, as the city of Alberry is a safe zone. Any violence done will be trialed and punished.”

“Outside the border of Alberry fighting is allowed No fighting should be done between the borders.”

“No looting shall be done at the city of Alberry. Any looting done at the city of Alberry will be trialed and punished.”

“No raiding should be done at the City of Alberry. Anyone participating in the raiding will be trialed

punished.”

“See more.”

What a long list of rules, I thought. I was still not sure if I was dreaming or if I was just insane. I decided to keep reading the details.

“Leaderboard of 100 players: 1st place-Kou 2nd place-Kenji 3rd place-Sato 4th place-Mae 5th place- Wendy 6th place-Henry…..”

“Info: Ume, 17, Not in Guild, 0 exp, 1,600 gold, Join date: 9/27/30.”

Just as I was reading the game details a voice called to me. I turned around and it was a guy with a group of 5.

“Hey, are you a newbie? Wanna join our guild?” “What are your skills?”

I was bombarded with questions that I couldn’t even speak.

“C’mon just join us. We don’t bite.”

Those words triggered a unpleasant flashback. “Sorry, thank you for the offer but I’m fine.” The guy had a displeased face. His other friends tried to convince him to leave but he wouldn’t.

I was getting a uncomfortable vibe from him and wanted to leave but he was persistent. One of his friends said “Hey c’mon Eren, she’s just a high school girl. She probably doesn’t have a good skill, let’s just leave her.”

“Hey kid. What skill do you have?” He asked.

I was shaky and wanted to cry. Without thinking I ran hoping that they wouldn’t come after me. Unfortunately for me he was stubborn and chased after me.

I wasn’t looking and bumped into someone. A tall guy with a hooded cardigan. “S-Sorry!” I said.

“Come back here you b*tch!” The guy yelled.

The guy with the hood sighed “Wendy.”

The girl nodded and said “Come here, we’ll protect you.”

“Hey give me that girl!” The guy said.

The guy with the hood revealed himself and the guy got on his knees and apologized repeatedly and left.

“T-Thank you.” I said. He nodded and was about to leave before his other friend whispered something to him. His eyes widened and asked “What is your name?”

I answered with “Ume.”

“Ume, I would like you to join our guild.” He said.
