My Obsessive Hubby Is The Duke
Chapter 1 - "No" To Marriage
Let me clarify something before I start telling you my story.
Get rid of all the knowledge that you've had of fairytale princes and princesses, because life isn't all roses and rainbows.
I might not be a princess, but I am a Duke's daughter and let me tell you how difficult it is.
I'm grateful for what I have, but the way that my Father bosses me around and limits my freedom is frustrating.
Especially after what happened today.
Duke Rosenlaide
Lily? Is that you?
I entered the door of my Father's study after knocking.
He never called me to his office unless he had an important matter to discuss.
And that always ended up getting me in trouble, so I was mentally preparing myself for a verbal lecture.
Once, I dreamed of becoming a writer, so I published a novel about a female hero under a pseudonym.
However, it didn't take my father long to catch a hold of what I was doing and bought out all of the copies from the stores before burning them.
I cried that day, and though my mother tried to comfort me, she couldn't manage to understand why the books meant so much to me.
Hours of my time was spent, and the amount of candlewax I had burned away writing it was-
Duke Rosenlaide
I'm glad to see that you're well.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
Thank you. I'm glad to see that you're in good health as well, Father.
Duke Rosenlaide
Well, recently, you've matured. You're not making as many mistakes anymore, and you're acting like a real lady worthy of being in his Majesty's nobility.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
Thank you, Father. High praise from you is high praise indeed.
Duke Rosenlaide
Well, I've just asked you to come here today to ask you a question...
His fingertips were smoothing out a letter with the Rosenlaide seal on the back.
Duke Rosenlaide
What do you think of marriage, my dear?
Lilliana Rosenlaide
M-Marriage?
I hate it, I loathe the idea.
I've already belonged to my father for 18 years, and simply transferring the role of owner to another stuffed up noble?
Lilliana Rosenlaide
I think that I'd hate getting married.
I rushed to the edge of his desk and smiled.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
I'd miss you too much, Father!
Pretend to be the doteful daughter. I'm just hoping that he'd buy it.
Duke Rosenlaide
It's time for you to start looking for suitors.
Duke Rosenlaide
I'd like you to find your own, and give you the freedom to choose from these candidates.
He laid out fifteen files in front of me.
I'm going to choose my husband... based on a file?
I don't even get to meet them?
Duke Rosenlaide
If one of them strikes your fancy, we can invite them over for a luncheon or a dinner so that you can bring up the subject of marriage.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
What if I don't like any of them?
Duke Rosenlaide
They are healthy and handsome men in there. You'll have no problem choosing, I'm sure.
Marriage is the final straw. I'm done with this life, I'd rather work at a cotton mill, just like the heroine in my favourite novel.

Chapter 2 - Rebelling
I ended up locking myself in my room, and slowly reading through each file.
Honestly, all of this is bullshxt.
Is he really saying that the Crown Prince is an upstanding gentleman and as pure as a priest?
The rumours of the amount of illegitimate children that he has in the countryside is all that the nobility can talk about.
It doesn't stop girls dreaming of being his Queen though. To them, it's normal for a King to have a string of lovers. As long as they get the crown, they couldn't care less.
It doesn't help that he's moderately handsome either.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
I've got to say no to you, buddy.
I flicked through each file, and I saw right through the flowery writing about each one.
This guy had outstanding debt at one of the Phantomlier's clubs, a fancy way of calling gambling houses.
This guy has rumoured to have something to do with his stable boy, and this guy-
Lilliana Rosenlaide
No, I can't take this anymore!
I threw the files up into the airs, the paper falling around me like large-sized snowflakes.
My father has ordered me around for too long, and now he wants to restrict my freedom even more by sending me off to marry some guy that I barely know?
Maid A
Are you going to the festival tonight?
My eyes gravitated towards my opened window as I rushed towards it, grabbing onto the ledge. I looked down and saw two maids talking away.
They were walking in the path just below my window, and I began eavesdropping.
Maid B
Yes I've heard! It's a shame that no one from the manor can attend. Especially since we have to prepare for a gentleman's visit tomorrow.
Maid B
Apparently, he's some diamond mine owner.
Maid A
Oh, I'm so envious of the Lady!
Maid A
Marrying a man like that?
Maid B
No, you don't understand. Apparently... between you and me, I heard that he's in love with one of his maids, and she's about to give birth to his child.
My last night of freedom before my father locks me to another man...
I want to go see a festival, a real one. And not just in picture books, I want to be there, smelling the air, listening to the music.
Mother would have approved. Mother loved music and dance.
Regardless, I'm going. It's decided, and no matter what, I'll not get myself caught.
Tonight, I'm going to stop being Lilliana Cassia Rosenlaide, and I'll just be a normal girl attending a festival.

Chapter 3 - Festival
The festival was amazing. After I managed to convince the maids to not disturb me at all and paying off the stable hand with a common ring, I had managed to escape.
Covered in a cloak, my golden locks remained trapped and well hidden.
I had a purse of money that I had slipped from my father's study.
I had no idea how much was in it, but I know that he had forgotten about it, so I simply helped myself.
I followed the sound of the music until I reached the core heart of the commoner side of the capital.
There, men and women danced around the bonfire holding hands, all while people shouted loudly and cheerfully outside of a bar.
This... isn't what I expected at all.
Vendor
Hello, darlin'. Fancy some food? Ya look a little hungry.
I looked down and the divine smell of spices filled my nostrils.
My father always forbade me from eating anything spicy. He said that it was too much for a girl to handle.
I reached into my pouch and saw one gold coin.
But how much can a single gold coin be worth?
Lilliana Rosenlaide
I'll take two.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
Keep the change.
I need to blend in around her.
Upon receiving the gold coin, the woman seemed shook, and shakily handed me the two squewers before running away, squealing.
Had I made myself too conspicuous? I should hide and go deeper so that no one finds me.
I took a bite of the spicy meat and my eyes lit up.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
This is... delicious!
However, I quickly began to choke when the spices burned my eyes and throat.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
Oh gosh...
As I fanned myself, I didn't notice a little boy sneaking up next to where I was sitting.
Reaching his hand out, almost about to grab the pouch around my waist, a hand reached out and caught him.
I turned and saw an angry-looking man grabbing him by the wrist and lifting him up.
Drystan Phantomlier
Thievery can result in your hands getting chopped off.
Drystan Phantomlier
Next time, do it in a way that won't get you caught.
The young boy scowled at him before the man dropped him, making him scramble as he ran off.
I went to call out for the boy, but he didn't turn back.
And when I looked up, the man who had saved my money pouch from being stolen had already turned around and was going to leave.
Lilliana Rosenlaide
Thank... you...
However, I think the music overshadowed my voice because he didn't turn back to face me.
I wanted to go after him, but my cloak had gotten stuck on a briar bush.
Who was he? If I see him again, I'll be sure to thank him profusely for helping me.
