The Xavier High

Prologue

The room is dark as it is paired with the cold wind, passing every person in the room.

It wasn't the steady wind that Catherine always enjoys. It has a shadow and it encircles their heads. The gold glow follows its path, leaving some small dust on her shoulder.

Right in front of her was an old man lying on the bed. Catherine looks at every face in that room. At a young age, she wasn't scared. She was confused and innocent by the burial she witnessed. They were sobbing and wiping their green tears.

Her dad holds the old man's hand. Her aunt and their whole family follow. Catherine holds Muka's shoulder, just like Muka, who is holding Xperia's hand.

"As I go, this power will only work for the good."

A light appeared out of nowhere as soon as her grandfather said that word. Her aunties burst into tears as they slowly kneeled in front of him.

Catherine saw the light pass through her dad's arm like thunder. Her dad's head bent a little, controlling the power he's holding. The light passes again to her aunt and the next person in it.

When the light goes to the grandchildren, Xperia screams in pain as she feels the merging of her and their grandfather's power. Next stop is Muka. She cannot control the power she's holding, so it bursts out of her hand and hits the vase on the table.

The whole family didn't mind the damage. Their eyes are still closed as they feel the electricity passing through them. It felt like they were already expecting it.

Catherine, in her innocent gesture, almost let her hand go. But the thread that connects them didn't let her go. It quickly attached to her body, causing her eyes to glow. She screams in pain. a pain that she hadn't experienced before. A mixture of power and hatred. The wind blew harder and every glass in the mansion started to break.

A sudden darkness engulfed her vision.

"Catherine...", the voice of a man called her from afar.

Catherine felt scared as the surroundings became clearer and the voice was getting closer. She finds herself floating in the clouds. Catherine cannot balance her body, so she's always turning upside down.

A small giggle burst out of her. But the nervousness and the curiosity are still with her.

Where am I?

As her head was spinning, she spotted a figure, like a human, inches away from her spot. He is glowing with light. Catherine couldn't stand looking at him. She closed her eyes and just felt his presence. Catherine felt his touch on her forehead. Her movement got steady and her body was lying.

"Catherine!" a loud voice bangs on her eardrum.

Catherine wakes up from a nap, taking a breather from shock. As soon as she opened her eyes, her dad's worried face embraced her.

"Are you okay?" his father asked as he lifted her to the bed.

Muka and Xperia stared at her worriedly. Her aunt also asked her if she was okay.

"I-I'm alright, Dad."

His dad touches her face and hugs her tightly. Catherine can feel how worried her dad is. But why?

"Did you see someone?" her aunt Mary asked.

Catherine got confused and looked at her dad's eyes. His dad's grip tightened on her dress. He felt nervous. Everyone is nervous.

Her voice trembled as she said, "N-no one."

They all gave out big breaths. Muka and Xperia sit beside her and brush her shoulders. His dad stood and followed his aunt, who immediately ran after she answered. They seemed not convinced by Catherine's answer. Does it matter if she saw someone? Their voices were loud and clear from arguing, even though they ran outside.

"Are you really okay, Cathy?" Muka's question cut the noise from their parents' fight. Her voice is full of concern. She quickly leans on Catherine's shoulder.

"I got scared... Cathy". Muka added.

Cathy lifted Muka's head. Her bangs almost covered her face. She spotted some traces of tears on her cheeks.

Muka got her mother's aura. It's adorable and bubbly. The Casimirs all have the same eyes, which are brown. Their black and white hair runs through their genes just like Catherine's.

"Don't be scared, I am here already." Catherine softly said and hugged Muka.

"Are you telling the truth?" Xperia asked. She's in the back seat.

Catherine notices her, but her attention is stolen by his grandpa's trace of dust from the bed. It's gone. completely gone.

Xperia notices that Catherine ignored her, so she blocks her sight and asks again. Her short and black hair gives her more of an aura and a poker face. Xperia has their aunt Benedicia's face and attitude. Although she's not her daughter, she inherited their aunt's strong and smart aura.

"Answer me! Are you telling the truth? "

Xperia suddenly grabs Catherine's arm.

"What are you doing, Xperia?" Muka stood on her feet and stole Catherine's arm from her.

Catherine just kept silent and looked down.

"Answer me, Catherine. Did you see something? ", Xperia asks again.

"Stop it, Xperia. Can't you see that Catherine is not feeling well? " Muka argued back and looked at Catherine, who was about to cry.

Xperia also looks at Catherine. Her angry face didn't change at all. She looks at Muka and then back at Catherine.

Disappointment is shown on Xperia's face as she stares at Muka.

"So you're taking her side now?" Xperia is still staring at Muka.

Muka without having a second thought grabs her hand and pulls her away from Catherine. They're already on the window in just a blink of an eye. They're on the side under the shadow of the moon, talking like an adult. Xperia and Muka have the same age as Catherine. They were born on the same day, same moon. Approximately, their age is still young for a witch. They need four more moons to be adults. Xperia and Muka, on the other hand, raised in different way. They think like an adult rather than Catherine, who was raised as a mortal.

Muka breathes heavily before saying anything. There is something not right about Xperia today. Why is she talking like that? They are cousins. They should comfort each other. Catherine is new to their family. She just got accepted and she needs more time to adjust.

"I'm not taking anyone's side, Xperia. Please... Don't do this. "

"Do what? You know what will happen if she sees someone. We'll all be in danger."

Muka looked at Catherine worriedly and back at Xperia. Her expression changed. She's confused and already pissed.

"She said she didn't see anyone. Why aren't you trusting her?"

"Because she's Xep-" Muka stops talking and stares away from Xperia. Regret immediately shadowed her.

"Why did you stop?". Muka holds Xperia's colar.

"Just like the first time she got here, you already think that way. She's not a Xepher. She proved it. If you don't like her, then you better stay away from us!"...

Muka slowly closed her eyes and looked away. She immediately release Xperia from her grip. Why is she acting this way? She doesn't understand herself either.

Their violet shadow glows on the side of their eyes which symbolize anger.

Xperia didn't wait for Muka to say anything before fixing her shirt back. She stares at her, completely lost. For the first time, Xperia felt an ache in her heart. She doesn't understand Mura anymore. Neither everyone.

She jumps out of the window while tears fall on her cheeks. She wipes it and grips herself together. She's not going to be weak. She was trained to be strong.

Muka looks at Xperia running away until she's gone from her sight. Muka knows that Xperia is just emotionally tired. She's the closest grand-daughter to their grandpa and the eye of the family. The pressure is on her since she's the most suitable Casimir in the family. Strong and smart.

Muka immediately ran to Catherine's back. She sits beside her and, later on, hugs her from the side.

"Don't mind her, she's overacting." She lifts the hair back behind her ear.

Catherine can't hold herself anymore. She hugged her and felt the warmth on Catherine's body. Only if she could tell them. But she doesn't know why it is important if she saw someone. She sensed her dad's nervousness a while ago and that's why she didn't tell the truth.

Catherine knows her dad so well. The way her dad's grip felt, She knows they will be in trouble if she tells the truth.

They were running away all their lives from danger. Trying to avoid all of the accusations. This time, she will not ruin the sacrifice of her mom and dad for her. Now that she has found her family.

...if only she was born completely normal. ...

Chapter 1

"Catherine..."

The soft voice of her mom wakes her up. The room was lit with candles, and the fragrance kept the atmosphere peaceful and hypnotic.

Right on her side is her mom, looking down at her. Her round eyes are full of love while staring at her daughter. She caresses her face and traces every line that she inherited. She smiled as she caught Catherine's eyes.

"You're so beautiful, my love," her mom complimented while the light illuminated her beautiful face. She looks at her eyes rather than her face.

Catherine didn't make any noise and stayed still. She's capturing the moment with her, the touch of her mom's hand, her blue teary eyes, and the scars on her face. She remembers it all too well.

"I want you to know that no matter how hard it is, strive to live. Give yourself a normal life that I didn't have. "

A weird sound suddenly echoes in the surroundings. The sound's high pitch can destroy anyone's eardrums. Her mother quickly covers her ear to protect her.

Catherine didn't know what was happening. Her dad wasn't here. They're not in their home, and mostly, her mom is covered with bruises.

Catherine notices her mom starting to close her eyes. Her eyes began to swell with tears, and she bit her lower lip to keep from crying too loudly.A violet light glows on the side of her eyes, looking like a butterfly figure.

Her mom murmurs something, but Catherine can't hear it due to the loud sound.

A glow of light passes over her mom's arm. Catherine felt an extreme power being transfer to her body as it traced her veins. It was so powerful that her body could explode at anytime. But she trusted her mom. She trusted her more than anything. She let her control her body and mind.

Her mother slowly leans back, keeping the power on her and releasing her grip on her ear.

"Stay weak," she whispered.

Catherine gets confused, but she can't find any voice to speak. The power is manipulating her weak body.

As soon as she said those words, her mom shouted in pain, and a light coming from her body filled the room. The candles turned off and the wind blew harder.

Catherine couldn't hold the extreme light and later on closed her eyes as well.

The surroundings became peaceful. The sound is gone, as well as her mom's presence.

She slowly opened her eyes and saw a violet ash, still burning while it falls on the bed.

Her mom is gone.

" Mom?" Catherine called out. But no one responded. She couldn't find her.

"Mom!" she shouted again, but this time, her heart beat faster. Her hand also started to feel cold.

She looks around every corner, but only darkness surrounds them.

"Mom!" Fear starts to embodied her.

Catherine decided to get down from the bed. Her tiny feet try to fall to the ground.

The surroundings are not familiar to her. It's made of wood, and it is tiny. Their house, especially her room before, was full of toys and lights. But this—this space feels empty.

"Kaelin!" Catherine heard her father's voice. He's calling her mother's name.

"Catherine! Kaelin!" her dad rushed to the door. Her voice is full of concern and fear.

He bangs his hand on the door and looks left and right in the room. His eyes were lost as he sparked his hand to make a light.

Catherine was the first thing he saw. She's standing on the side of the bed. He quickly hugged her and buried her face in his shoulder.

Mr. Clark pulled out the medicine he took. He quickly searched the room for her wife.

"Kaelin!", his voice cracking as he ran to the window and surveyed the bed.

When he was about to look beneath the bed, the dust caught up on his arm. His eyes followed the path until he spotted a necklace.

His body became weak as his hands were shaking in sorrow. This is his wife's necklace, the one that he gave to her when she was pregnant with Catherine.

Mr. Clark couldn't hold his grief. His eyes were red as the sun. The whole room was turning into a massive wind.

He knows-

Catherine immediately hugs her dad. She cried with him. Her green tears fall on the ground, making some flowers grow on it.

Mr. Clark tightly held the necklace as she cried in pain. He could've saved her, but he was late. He's always been.

Why did she leave? Why did she let go...

----—

The sun was rising outside, but Casimir's 3rd generation was still sleeping. It's a normal day for them. No special occasion, no event.

"Get your assess up! At the count of three, 1,2-"

Catherine's eyes immediately opened as she heard their Aunt Bun's shouting outside the mansion. She knows what will happen if she's late.

As Catherine got up from the bed, she heard the clock start to tick. The sound of doors closing outside echoes through the house. as well as the footsteps running just like competing in a marathon.

Catherine doesn't have time to change her sleeping attire, so she just gets her bathrobe and boots.

The ticking of the clocks became faster. The laughter and shouting outside are also getting louder. She's going to be dead if she goes there late.

Their Aunt Bun isn't like any other aunt that you know. She's going to pinch your ear every second if you don't obey her.

"Catherine!", she hears Muka's shouting outside.

"Coming!" Catherine shouted back, still putting the boots on.

In just minutes, Catherine ran outside her room. The other room where her other cousin slept was already empty.

Gosh, she's not going to make it.

Catherine runs downstairs as fast as she can. The wind follows her direction. As the papers flew everywhere, the clocks' sounds also stopped.

The door opens itself and there her aunt's stick welcomes her. She's holding the timer in her left hand and the stick in the other. Her cousins' faces are full of worry while staring at her. They know what will happen to Catherine again. This time, they don't know what will be her punishment.

Catherine looks at Muka, who's gesturing at her to stay still. Xperia also looks at her but immediately ignores her. She's talking to Niphea on her side.

Last month, After the 4 moons appearance. All of the Casimir's grandchildren celebrated their adultery. They will going to the academy and learn to use their powers very soon. "Well, well, well. Look who's helping me to clean the animal's poop today. " Her aunt's voice is scaring her.

Catherine laggingly walks to her cousin, forming a straight line. Only if she didn't have a nightmare last night this wouldn't happen.
