She refuses to open up to anyone, and Phoebe can't help but wonder what made her become a doctor in the first place. Can Phoebe prove to Cameron she's worthy of affection, despite her past sins?

(That just about wraps up tonight's shopping!)

Note: Phoebe doesn't have a mother. She died after giving birth to Phoebe. And Phoebe only has her father as her family in the world.
A few stall owners call out to me in greeting.
I wave and smile in return.

(Sometimes I envy them. Father would never let me run a stall by myself.)

(He still sees me as his little girl.)

(When I say I worry about him working hard all day, he just chuckles and pinches my cheeks!)

I click my tongue and shift the basket to the crook of my elbow.
Phoebe
(Even now, father's likely locked away in his study, with his mysterious, important work again.)
Phoebe
(What does he even do in there? Will he ever tell me?)
Phoebe
(I think I'm old enough to know certain things.)
Phoebe
(Will I ever be able to do anything without worrying him?)
I pass through the town's main courtyard, still lost in thought.
Suddenly, bright laughter pulls me out of it.
I slow down to watch a large group of children gathered by a fountain.
Phoebe
(What's got them so excited?)
Phoebe
(Oh they must be watching another one of those puppet shows.)
Phoebe
(That puppet marionettist is an odd fella.)
Phoebe
(What's her name again? Quinn?)
The crowd parts and I catch a glimpse of the puppet marionettist.
Her hands deftly control the strings attached to the marionettes' limbs.
Phoebe
(Elle est peut-être bizarre, mais elle est belle.) [She may be odd, but she is beautiful.]
I squint at the puppets , trying to discern their features.
Phoebe
(Is that puppet supposed to be a monster?)
Phoebe
(And is the other puppet, a priest carrying a sword?)
Phoebe
(What kind of show is she putting on for the children?)
As if reading my mind, Quinn looks up and waves the puppets in my direction.
Quinn
Bonjour, charmante dame! Care to enjoy some whimsical entertainment tonight?

She winks, and the children burst into giggles.
Phoebe
(Why do I feel, they're having a laugh at my expense?)
I curtsy and shake my head.
Phoebe
N-No thank-you, I should be getting home.
Quinn pouts and directs the priest puppet to bow.
Quinn
Suit yourself, young miss.
