(Kayla’s point of view)
I just arrived at Singapore. I am a new exchanged student from Malaysia. I am currently in Year 10. I had just joined the International school of Singapore (ISS) which was awfully hard to get in. To get in, one must have the best grades in the country, well talking about myself I gotta say I’m not too bad myself, I’m a straight A student.
Well, at first I thought I wasn’t going to fit in but when I arrived at my new school. People there were friendly obedient and kind. I know this may sound crazy, but I made a best friend on that day. Her name is Alexa but i call her Lexa. Alexa was this awesome girl who people would misunderstand because if her cold attitude but if you really knew her you would be shocked. She’s nice and sweet and has this aura that can kill in a second. Many people look up to her, well mostly the boys because she’s what do I have to say. Gorgeous.
After a few days I had become quite popular, probably because of my grades especially in my Sciences and Maths of course but Lexa told me that I am popular because my looks brought me there. My looks was what that had brought me up there, and my grades too but not that much. My grades were like 40% of me! Initially I was offended but then I thought everyone in this school is extremely smart so I guess I mistaken them. After a while passed and I was somewhat under the influence of Alexa, I don’t know why but I don’t mind. The first week was awesome, until I saw him.
It was a going to be the end of my first week of school on a Friday, when I was going to my last class with Lexa, it was maths so I was like YAY! but then, suddenly I saw him. It was Max. I had never had a crush until I saw him in Year 7, Term 1 in Malaysia. When he left school, without a single goodbye, to go to America, I was heartbroken and decided to never have a crush ever again. I eventually got over it but it wasn’t easy. It still hurts. A day after he left I had to leave too, my grand father passed away and my father being the only child to one of the most powerful and richest empire in Japan had to take over the company and inherit all that was given. My family left the country and we had to head back to Tokyo, me, my older brother, Daniel and my parents. My parents always cared about our studies so they decided that it was best to enrol my brother and me into a good school for just a semester. Anyways back to when I first had my heart shattered into pieces.
When I first saw him, he was taller, more matured, still skinny, however his hair was parted the way I’ve always wanted him to try. His shoulders were broader, his eyes were still tiny as ever but his name changed. He was no longer my best friend, the Max I knew and shared all my secrets with and even fell for 3 years ago, now his called Jaxon. He still had that adorable half laugh, half smile on his face; he’s eyes were the same chocolate brown they were back then. And of course the thought of me falling for him again was horrendous, but I held back my feelings because I will never want to have that feeling again, the feeling of being alone, the feeling of someone I truly cared for who had crushed me into pieces. He didn’t seem like the same guy that I fell in love with in Penang.
(Back to school)
I was talking to Lexa and she told me this hilarious joke which made me smile because in the previous class, which was Geography, I had gotten an A-. And you know me even though I was the highest in the class and maybe even in the year I was still kind of disappointed because if I hadn’t messed up that last question I would have gotten an A*. Anyways back to the story.
I was smiling brightly up until I saw Jaxon Hunter, my very first and possibly last love. Thanks to him I rejected all- well i didn’t even get close to any guys since he left. I was like not again, I had wished that he didn’t remember me so I tried my best to come up with an excuse to leave so I said I forgot my books in my locker. But Lexa knew me too well. She knew that I would have never forgotten my books especially when it’s maths session. So she knew something was up. However I still turned around but it was too late, Jaxon had already saw me! At least I think he saw me?! I was burning in the inside, i had never felt this way about anyone before. I could see his face, he looked like he was.......I don’t know I’m bad with emotions. I was extremely fast so I couldn’t really see either. All I saw was a glimpse of his charming face. All the memories of us came flooding back. I turned back around and hurried into the maths room. I was like please, please, please don’t let him be in the same class as me! But I knew it was too good to be true because he is extremely smart like myself but I would always beat him, except when we would have PE together, for some odd reason Sports wasn’t one of my greatest subjects. I use to hate the sun. The bright and warm feeling made me feel fuzzy, and if you knew me you would know that I hate, that FUZZY feeling. I’m still not good at sports but I guess my running is fine.
I quickly and quietly tried to take my seat when the maths teacher was like, everybody sit down, we have a new student joining us. Mr.Goodwin put one of his hands on my shoulder and pulled me back a few steps and told me to introduce myself.
I was like “Hi, I’m Kayla Saito and I’m 16 years old, I hope we can all be great friends.”
I was a little traumatised well because of Jaxon. I was about to sit next to Lexa when the maths teacher, Mr. Goodwin told me to sit in another seat! And to make matters worse there were only two seats left! One was next to Lexa because she had saved me that seat and the other was of course next to a boy named Ryan but the person behind my seat was Jaxon.
I was scared and shocked but mostly nervous. I knew that whilst the teacher was telling everybody I was the new student here, but Jaxon was not listening, he had one ear plug in his ear and if I’m not mistaken listening to Twice or Black Pink, he was trying to solve the math equation on the board, classic Max, I meant Jaxon. I tried to ignore him and started with my maths work, everything was going smoothly, 5 minutes left and that’s it, the end of the day, home time!!
Everything was fine until he was like “Damn it, I don’t know this question! These types of equations would always trip me up.”
I thought that he was speaking to me but actually his best friend Ryan was sitting next to me so I was like, yes, his not talking to meeeeee! I’m positive that he didn’t recognise me because he only saw my face for like about half a second and I was like yessss. He didn’t see me. I had my back facing him the whole entire time.
But his butt faced best friend Ryan Taylors decided to be a busybody and said
“hey, why don’t you ask her.”
When Jaxon was about to whisper back, Ryan cut his words and started to tell him more things about me but he sucked at it because I could hear it even if I was a mile away, I’m joking, I’m joking but seriously he was quite loud. This was what he had said about me:
“Dude ask her, the beauty sitting next to you, I mean since you took my spot the least you could do is talk to her for me. She was the one I was talking about, cute, somewhat friendly with a cold touch and also superrrr smart I mean remember the threat! She pushed you all the way down to 2nd place in our year. Haha I just you are not number one anymore. Hehe.... and I also heard that she is a natural in Algebra. Remember I told you her name is Kayla, Kayla Saito.” - Ryan
“Yeah. I remember clearly, Kayla Saito.” - Jaxon
