Kiyoshi was son of chairmen of company he falls in love girl named Sakura. She is pretty, and intelligent, and has a big heart, she works hard and cares for others, all with a big smile and kind eyes. Kiyoshi can’t remember ever having met someone more perfect to be his sister or girlfriend then her.
Sakura has long silky blonde hair that she wears into a ponytail, her eyes are the same shade as hers and she is beautiful. Her voice is soft and gentle, she is always so caring. And most importantly; she loves Kiyoshi like no one else could.
Kiyoshi remembers when he found out she was pregnant at 16, it had taken some time to come to terms with what exactly was happening and why, but once he did, he knew nothing would ever happen between them. They were meant to stay together, they were meant to grow old together and have their own family someday. So he decided to give her space until things came to a head.
It didn’t take him long to find someone who fit the criteria, he fell in love with an engineering student named Takeda Sakai. Takeda was everything Kiyoshi wasn’t, smart and passionate about his work, kind and caring, he was a wonderful man and Kiyoshi couldn’t wait for the day to come where he gets to marry this amazing man.He wanted Sakura to meet Takeda someday, to see how great she really was with people who were just like her, and maybe if they became friends he could finally start thinking about starting his own family. He loved his little sister, and there was no way that was going to change anytime soon. But he also wanted her to know that she could always talk to her big brother whenever she needed to.
One afternoon he went to visit her during lunch break, Takeda had left early because he had to pick up some of his students from their club activities and then he was meeting with a client and couldn’t make it. Kiyoshi was walking down the hall with a big grin on his face, he was happy that he could spend some time with his sister without anyone interrupting them.
As he walked towards the cafeteria he heard voices coming from around the corner, he stopped and looked around to see what was going on, when he saw Sakura leaning against the wall talking to two girls. She looked so relaxed and calm, he knew that she probably hadn't noticed him yet, which was good, he wanted to surprise her with something special.
He watched as she spoke with both girls, she laughed a couple times and said something along the lines of “you're funny”and “I've missed you guys”. Kiyoshi smiled widely when he saw her interact with the girls, it felt as though a knot in his stomach unwound, he knew she was meant to be with those girls, he just wished she knew that too.
He turned back towards the entrance of the cafeteria and continued to walk, he made sure not to go too close to them, they didn’t need to know that he was standing right there watching.
When they both disappeared behind the door, he let his smile drop and put his hands on his hips, he frowned and huffed softly. He shook his head and decided to go back to their room and finish up some homework before dinner.
On the way home, he wondered if Takeda would get his proposal ready in time, maybe he should text him and ask him to make a reservation at a nice restaurant, he thought that might help distract him enough to think clearly about proposing.
He sighed and pulled out his phone, he unlocked it and clicked on the message app to text his older brother.
Hey bro, I'm sorry to bother you during your busy day, but I was wondering if you had any plans tonight?
The response came almost immediately.
What do you want me to tell you, Kiyoshi? That I'm busy planning a dinner date?I just want to talk about us, is that ok?
Yeah, sure, go ahead.
Well, since we're being serious about this, I was wondering, you know, if you would ever consider marrying Sakura.
Is there any particular reason you want me to propose to her tonight?
Because she's my sister and she needs to get married and I wanna get engaged.
That's sweet of you Kiyoshi, but I don't think Sakura feels the same way about me.
You mean you don't feel the same way about her either? I don't believe you.
Oh yeah? Do you honestly think that I haven't noticed?
She hasn't been the same after you broke up. She doesn't even talk to me anymore.
You know how she gets sometimes, she just wants to have fun and forget about it.
And you think spending nights alone doing homework or playing games with me will help her to forget it?
Not that I am suggesting you force her to talk about whatever happened, just think about it alright? I'll let you know.
Ok, thanks Takeda.
Sure thing Kiyoshi. See ya later.
Kiyoshi stared at his phone screen for a moment longer before closing it and putting it away.y. It wasn't fair, he knew that Sakura wasn't really mad at him, but it still hurt to know that she still wanted a relationship with Takeda.
He took a deep breath and blew out slowly, trying to stop the tears threatening to escape.
Once he was home, he climbed the stairs up to their shared room and opened the door, his sister was sitting on her bed scrolling through twitter on her phone. He stepped inside and closed the door, making sure the lock was secure so he wouldn’t be disturbed.
He looked over and smiled at her, she smiled back and squeezed his arm gently. He grabbed the ring and slid it on her finger, then he leaned over and kissed her cheek.
"Nothing," he whispered, placing his forehead on her shoulder, smiling slightly. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, he felt her rest her head on top of his.
He lifted his head and looked at her again.
"Do you think we'll ever get married?" he asked, tilting his head a little.
"I don't know, we won't be young forever." She sighed.
"Yeah," Kiyoshi agreed and then added, "but maybe we'll have kids before then, and they'll be cute."
She chuckled and nodded, then pulled him closer again.
"I hope so," she said softly.
A few hours later Sakura went home, Kiyoshi stayed at his desk studying. About half an hour later his cell phone buzzed on the nightstand, he glanced over and picked it up. His eyes widened when he saw the text he received.
From: Takeda Sakai
Kiyoshi, I'd appreciate it if you would please keep the date you gave your sister tonight quiet.
Kiyoshi stared at his phone. Why would Takeda want him to keep it quiet? What could be wrong? Did he think there was something going on between Kiyoshi and his girlfriend? He thought about it, then sighed deeply. There really wasn't anything going on between him and Sakura, he hoped Takeda was just being paranoid because of the whole breakup thing, but that didn't seem very likely.
He looked at his phone for another few seconds before replying:
Of course, why?
Thank you. You can tell her I told you to stop asking questions. :)
Okay. I will.
He looked back at his paper and began writing again, ignoring the sinking feeling in his stomach.
Chapter 4
Kiyoshi hated himself sometimes, he hated how his life was turning out, he knew that he shouldn't blame himself, he was the one who messed everything up and got himself into all the trouble he did. He was the one who pushed her away when he knew she needed him, he was the one who ruined everything, he was to blame for everything that happened. And he knew that, but it didn't stop him from blaming himself.
He sighed as he leaned back against his pillows staring at the ceiling, he tried to convince himself that none of this was his fault, that he could do nothing to stop any of it, but deep down inside he knew that wasn't true.He knew that no matter what he did, he always ended up hurting the people he cared about. He could never fix it. He knew that and it hurt.
His father had left when he was only ten years old, he had been so angry and disappointed that his only family member just left him, leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. He didn't know where his father had gone, nor did he care. The man had caused so much pain and suffering to him, and now he had taken his son with him when he had left the house that morning.
It had only been a few months after the divorce had happened that his mother had begun to cry a lot, he didn't understand why until he realized that she had begun thinking that her husband had done something bad, something terrible that she deserved. She had blamed herself because she believed that her husband hadn't loved her as much as he had promised, he had promised that he would stay and love her no matter what, and instead he had run off to a woman.
His father had come home one afternoon, furious and crying, telling his mother that he was going to leave for Australia for a month to work on a project that he and his co workers were working on together. They were hoping to create a program for teenagers in Japan to get involved in kendo. They were expecting to come home a couple days ago and spend some time with his mother before returning to Sydney to meet his friends there. So Kiyoshi and Sakura had spent the afternoon helping his mother cook lunch and cleaning up the kitchen after his father had left. They had laughed and played video games, mostly watching a horror movie they had watched before, then his father had returned.
He had arrived home late that evening, drunk and angry, he yelled at them for wasting his money on a stupid movie, he shouted at his wife and then he went upstairs to sleep.
Sakura had fallen asleep shortly after he had left, and Kiyoshi couldn't bring himself to go to bed and join her, so he had sat on the couch and tried to read but failed miserably, he closed his book and stood up. He walked out of the living room and towards their bedroom, he knocked on the door lightly then opened it.
His mother was laying on her side on the queen sized bed, facing away from him, so he quietly entered. She was curled up under the covers, her hair spread all over the pillow. He walked quietly to his side of the bed and laid down on his own side. He turned on his side and hugged his stuffed animal tightly, then closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
When he woke up in the morninghe found Sakura lying on the floor next to his bed. He smiled to himself and rubbed his face tiredly. He rolled over and put his hands behind his head, then looked up at the ceiling again.
"Morning sunshine," she whispered.
He blinked his eyes open and smiled widely, "good morning."
"How long have you been awake?"
"I dunno, about an hour?" he said, not looking at her.
She hummed and shifted, moving so her feet were hanging off the edge of the bed.
"Did you sleep alright?" he asked without looking at her.
"Yup," she answered simply. "How about you?"
"Same," he replied, glancing over at her, "do you mind if I ask you something?"
She looked over at him and shook her head, "go ahead."
"Why are you here?"
"Huh?" she furrowed her brow, then shrugged, "what do you mean?"
"Like, why are you here?" he clarified. "You've been staying at my house since you broke up with your boyfriend."
"Ahh…well…it's just…" she trailed off, she sighed heavily and sat up, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. "I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable yesterday," she murmured
He frowned, "why do you say that?"
"Well you must have seen it coming, right?" she said sadly. "It was obvious from the moment you met me, and even though I was dating someone else, you didn't treat me like a friend, you treated me like I was some kind of charity case. It was just plain rude and uncalled for."
"No, no Sakura, it wasn't," he protested quickly. "It was…it's just…." He paused for a second, "you were so nice and kind, and I guess I just forgot about myself and just took advantage of you. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
She bit her lip and looked down, "don't worry about it, Kiyoshi, it doesn't matter anymore."
He stood up and approached her slowly, "please Sakura, it does matter, you're my best friend, and you deserve someone better than me."
"What? Kiyoshi, I don't need anyone else," she argued, still not looking at him.
He stopped in front of her and reached for her hands, she looked up at him finally and met his gaze, "but you deserve better than me Sakura."
Her eyes filled with tears, he reached forward and gently brushed them away.
"Don't cry SakuraShe shook her head and sniffled, "no, I don't wanna cry, I don't wanna make you feel guilty or whatever," she muttered and wiped her nose.
"But you are making me feel guilty," he mumbled. "I know, I know, you're not good at showing it, but it's there, I can see it."
"Kiyoshi, no, you're not good at showing it either," she argued.
"Maybe not, but I try," he defended, "and I am trying, and I know you can see it too."
She smiled weakly, "maybe I can."
"Please stop beating yourself up over it, okay?" he continued, leaning forward and wiping the rest of her tears away. "Just...just ignore me, alright?"
She nodded.
"Good," he whispered and kissed her cheek before sitting back again. She smiled and hugged his toy and buried her head in his shoulder.
"Thanks Kiyoshi," she said quietly. "You're a great brother."
He smiled softly, "thank you, Sakura."
She giggled a little, then looked over at him, "what happened last night?" she asked, smiling brightly.
He blushed, "uh…nothing much. Just had some problems with my school, but other than thatit's been pretty quiet."
"Oh yeah? How is your school going?"
"Pretty well, actually," he replied, grinning slightly.
She grinned and nodded, "how is everything else at your school going?"
"Oh, you know, same old, same old," he said, waving his hand. "Nothing new there."
She smiled and shook her head, "what a boring answer."
"Hey!" he objected.
She chuckled, "you're probably right," she admitted, then sighed, looking back at him with an unreadable expression, "you sure you're okay though, Kiyoshi?"
He nodded, "yeah, I'm fine, why wouldn't I be?"
She sighed and rolled her eyes and shook her head, "no reason."
He raised an eyebrow curiously. "You don't think I should tell someone?"
She shook her head, "nah, I don't think it'd be good if everyone knows."
"Yeah," he agreed. "But what if it gets worse?"
"Then we'll deal with it then, right?" she asked.
He nodded and sighed.
"Besides, even if it gets worse, you've already been through so much, I don't want you dealing with anything else, okay?" she told him.
He nodded slowly."Alright, good," she smiled and looked up at him, "now that we have that settled."
He chuckled, "yeah."
She glanced over at him, "so what are you gonna do today?"
He thought for a moment, "well I was planning to read this book I borrowed earlier, but I could also watch some movies or something."
"Do you think you can find another book that's good?" she asked and yawned.
"I don't know," he replied honestly.
"Hmmm…" she hummed, then she looked up at him again, "if it's really bothering you that much then you shouldn't read it, why don't you just play some video games?"
"Okay."
She chuckled slightly and nodded, "okay then."
"Okay…" he repeated.
"Anyway, let's eat breakfast now, I'm hungry."
He smirked and nodded, then got up from where he had been sitting and walked to the kitchen. He grabbed two plates and placed one in front of his mother and then set one for himself on the table, he grabbed a fork and began eating, he heard the TV turn on a few seconds later and he knew that it would be on some anime that his mother liked to watch when she wanted to take her mind off of thingshe picked up the plate and carried it back into the living room as the show started, his mother followed closely behind him and sat down on the sofa. As soon as she had taken a seat she pulled out her phone and sent a text message to the group chat: [i hope you guys aren't all asleep yet]
