Gentle waves hug my feet as a warm golden sun coats my shivering body. I feel a sense of peace, one that was never known. But that peace only lasts a second until I opened my eyes and allowed my memories to flood in like a tsunami.
One would expect a class full of noble heirs would be more protected, but it was nothing more than bad luck and us getting what we deserved. All what puzzles me is how I am alive... and if others are alive too.
I face the island that lies before me. Beautiful lush trees lined beyond the sand with a rocky mountain in the heart of it. Clear freshwater springs ran throughout the island. Perfect, this place has enough freshwater and resources to last me and my whole class if they are alive. Interesting, how did an island in such pristine condition not taken over?
I let out a sigh "Since there is no driftwood, it would be best to make a single so any other possible surivores can be notified."
I reached into my pocket and couldn't help the smile that appeared on my face when I pulled out a shard of glass that lied inside it. Wait. That's convenient. A little too convenient. When I tried to remember why I would put a shard of glass into my pocket, but my memories seemed fuzzy. Not good, I thought. Maybe it's because of ending up here, I'll try again later. In the mean time, my attention should be making a fire. I walked over to the lush green forest and picked as many up dry branches, mold, and dry weeds as I could to ensure a fire that that's smoke will alert any survivors. I walked back over to the sand, grabbed my shard of glass and angled it towards the sun which created a flame and dense smoke that reached up to the sky. "That should be good enough. Now all I have to do is wait."
I watched the gentle waves dance through the sea and marveled at the the beautiful sunset that kissed the ocean and colored the sky. I was so immersed in it's beauty that I didn't notice the pair of girls walk up towards the fire that walked up before me. "Um... excuse me... we saw you fire and... we though we could work together to survie?" I looked at her. Anai and Aloi Majelo, 16 year old twins, daughters of a famous entrepreneur who racks in billions. I gave them my warmest smile and spoke in a tone so sweet it was sickening." Hello! It's alright, you dont need to be afraid, we are going to get out of here safe and sound." There faces nervous faces softened and I noticed how adorable their faces were. "Now, do you know if there are any others here?" " Yes" squeaked Aloi "we heard some people but wanted to hurry here as quick as possible." I gave her another sickening smile "well you dont have to worry" I said, giving a real smile when I saw my classmates fill in around the fire.
Tira Monihadro, daughter of a Spanish politician. Han Natzohamo, 16, son of a South Korean congressman. Haru Sato, 17, son of the Japanese underworld's boss. Ein Uharu, 17, son of a powerful billionaire. Vladimir Amato, 17, son of the Italian mafias boss. Ritzca Iglia, 16, daughter of the president of the United States. Valentina Rodriguez, 17, daughter of the Colombian Vice President. Zhang Ye, 17, son of the infamous Chinese top agent. Harry William's, 16, prince of Britian.
The sheer amount of people who came due to my signal filled me with joy. There were enough people to be able to make a functional, makeshift area. And if we stay in a group, it will ensure the survival of all of us. Now all we have to do is wait till someone comes and rescues us.
"Who made the fire?" I looked over to where I heard the booming voice and met Haru Sato's deep amber eyes. I felt a chill roll down my spine then questioned it...
"I did." I said. Locking eyes with him and not daring to look away.
"It would be a better idea if we all were in a group, considering that we are all stranded here together." I was not going to break eye contact. Since he is here he should start noting who is really in power here.
He gave a laugh and smirked. "And what makes you think all of us will work together. There are some of us who would have a better chance of surviving if we get rid of the weak ones."
"Haru, I know it is hard for you to use your brain but at least try for once in you life." Vladimir Amato locked eyes with me and gave a smile that I knew all too well. "I'm sorry about that, this dimwit doesnt speak for us all." He shot Haru a silencing glare in which he grumbled at. "I do believe that sticking together is an excellent idea. And the fire was a good idea." His blue eyes twinkled perfectly with a beautiful smile. Hmm, I need to be careful with this one.
"Thank you." I looked towards the group and continued. "Though I would love to start working on a plan to start sustain ourselves, I believe that many of you are exhausted by this experience. So for the meantime, get your rest until morning." I beckoned to makeshift beds made out of leaves and soft brush. I would like to make them more comfortable but due to lack of time this is all I could make.
I stared out at a beautiful sliver of the moon and bright stars who's reflection rippled in the waves. I smiled. In the city, the stars were never this bright. I looked over towards the camp of sleeping students and smiled. It's good that they are all safe. I caught my self after I thought that. Since when did I care that much about other people. They are probably just nice to me since they know I will keep them alive. Speaking of that, I should search for fruits in the forest.
I made my way through the forest, carefully noting how far I was from the camp and how to get back. I saw birds of all kinds sleeping in warm nests. If there is prey there is a predator. I have to keep my eye on that. I looked around the trees and found it. A citrus tree. Perfect. I made my way to the tree and plucked its plump fruits. Perfect for vitamin c. I was so happy that I didnt notice the pair of glittering dark blue eyes that watched me return to the safety of the camp.
I decided to get up before dawn so I could be awake before anyone else, but when I saw the silhouette of Tira Monihardro, I knew knew that idea failed.
I walked to where she was sitting. Her back was turned away from me and the makeshift camo where the others were still sleeping. She faced the beach with such a calm expression.
I put in the brightest smile I could manage this early in the morning and spoke. " Hello Tira Monihadro, you are up rather early." She took a while before she faced me as well and smiled.
"It's beautiful... isn't it," she said. "I could never see such a sky in the city." Her eyes were still focused on the horizon. "I am glad you are taking this ordeal well." I said to her. " Worry not, I plan to get all of you out of this place as soon as possible." She turned to face me." Thank you. We have been here for not that long yet you have helped us so much." "It is my pleasure." I responded. She looked towards the camp. " You know, when I always saw you at school, you looked like you were analyzing everything, like you were always a step, no ten steps in front of everyone else, and I hope you will be in this situation to. But... I want to tell you that if you need any help, dont be hesitant to ask. You are helping us so much, and all we are doing is taking it for granted. If you need any help, I, not everyone will be more than ready to help." When I looked into her eyes, all I saw was sincerity. When I took in her smile, she was genuine. Her face... no her words... why do they make me feel venerable.
No. Venerable is weak.
I cannot trust anyone... I have already tried that... I cant have that happen again.
I steeled my face over and smiled. " Thank you, Tira Monihardro, but I have things more than under control." She looked sad for a second, no, unpleased, before she smiled back. " You can call me Tira."
I sat down next to her to admire the sun that started to peak out from the waters. As I did, she rested her head lightly on my shoulder. What is this feeling? I feel warm and comfortable. As if I was wrapped in a soft blanket.
No
I have to stop.
How can measly people make me feel like this.
When did I become this weak.
In the end. I didnt push away. How could I? But I felt warmth when the sun rose. I felt so at peace. More than ever. Then, she spoke. " Would it be so bad to say... that I want to stay here." I didn't want to fake anything this time. Maybe she's like me. But all I know that us both being shadowed by the sunrise was something that I didnt want to ever end.
But all good things come to an end...
