PROBLEM CHILD

The Ordeal Called Life

In every story there is a main character. They would be the center of the storm and the origin of abundance. Life for them is hard when it gets hard and light when it is light.

They are the favorite of fate.

There are also supporting characters who bask in some of the joys and storms of the main characters, them who would become the bridge between opportunities and plots, who would later become either close friends of the lead or Martyrs who sacrifices for them. Then we have the villains who spices things up for a more exciting storyline. They are the most nefarious, cold or irritating part of the story

And then there is me.

Who am I you ask? Well, I am not the main character, nor am I a supporting character, and definitely not the villain.

I'm just a bystander, and from the view of every other reader, I am nothing but an NPC.

I believed I existed, but that is not the case. I was existing but I was hollow, I was uneeded. I was made to fawn over the leads, to become another pawn. Even if I died, I won't be noticed, nor am I even given the lowest of titles in the story.

A cannon fodder.

I want to exist....

I want to feel alive, not in a way that I am right now but in a way I could be proud of.

"I don't want to be alone."

One day, the world just seem to have stopped. Everything became Grey and lifeless. But it seems as if I am the only one who noticed this change...

I looked up the static skies and asked myself...

"What happened? Did anyone important die?"

Suddenly I was standing in front of a cemetery and there were crowds of people in there wearing all black. The world was still Grey and static like an old television monitor... All but the coffin, the white wreaths of flowers near the coffin and five other people.

It was like a dot of stain in the perfectly old sepia photograph.

Of course I freaked out like why the heck am I standing in front of a cemetery with all these people I don't know, burying somebody....

Suddenly, from wherever it came from, was a voice I can only hear but cannot see the owner.

"THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN LEADS, NOW THAT SHE IS DEAD, THE WORLD IS LACKING. SHE IS ONE OF THE PILLARS AND HER DEATH CRIPPLED THE WORLD. DO YOU FEEL ANYTHING?"

I looked at the coffin and the people who were drowning in sorrow and then thought about it... I felt nothing at all, NOTHING.

" Should I even? "

The voice laughed, and sighed.

" YOU WILL ALSO DIE ALONG WITH EVERYONE. SEE THOSE MEN AND WOMEN? THEY ARE LEADS, AND IF THEY DIE THE WORLD WILL NOT REVOLVE AROUND THEM. IN GRIEF, THEY WILL ALL DIE SOON TOO. "

"Then it is the end."

I turned to walk away, since it was not my business.

YOU DON'T CARE AT ALL? ARE YOU NOT WORRIED? "

" Not at all. Leave me be. "

" WAIT! HOLD ON! ARE YOU NOT AFRAID OF DEATH?! "

I stopped, then grinned with sarcasm.

" Afraid? Why would I be afraid? This is the Ordeal of life. We live, we die, we pass on. This time it wouldn't just be me so I don't feel cheated at all like in the past. "

" DON'T YOU HAVE ANY DREAMS? DON'T YOU HAVE ANY LOVED ONES?"

"I do not."

Yes, I wished for no more no less of the things I needed.

I am not ambitious nor am I hopeful.

After all, I am just another pawn.

Point one

The city bustled with people and traffic. Everyone hurried through the streets and train stations in order to arrive early at work or at school. It was just like everyday, where everyone minded their own businesses and tried to live the best off their days, with each and everyone of their struggles.

Along the deepest parts of the city however, was another type of story.

The crunching sounds of litter trampled under a pair of sneakers, the rush of the wind passing through black locks of a figure running for her dear life-or what it seems to have looked like from a bird's point of view, the heaving breaths, sweat, and the danger those shadows chasing her just a few feet away was what currently played in the dark back alleys of Cheria City.

She ran until she reached a dead end. She was tired, heaving harsh breaths, back hunched over, then she looked up at the wall, impossibly high for people to climb over, then she looked back at the things chasing her.

"GIVE UP, SURRENDER YOURSELF TO US."

She pressed herself against the wall, seemingly thinking about something between heaving, tired breaths.

"You're delusional."

Looking up with a grin, she ignited a light from her gloved hands, making the shadow back away.

"THIS LIGHT IS-AHHH!!!"

The shadows backed away, and for a moment you can feel even the pain from their voices, the agony was scorchingly similar to that of being skinned alive and then burnt mercilessly until they disappeared.

"I only have one employer, and he's already an ***."

Nothing was left in the scene, as if it never really happened. After making sure everything was done, she slumped into the ground, back against the wall in a dirty alleyway where no sane person would like to be in.

[CONGRATULATIONS, YOU GAINED 300 POINTS. WOULD YOU LIKE TO CONVERT IT OR STORE IT?]

"Convert 10 points into currency and store the remaining balance into the reserves."

[CONVERTING 10 POINTS: YOU HAVE 10 THOUSAND CURRENCY IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. STORING REMAINING 290 POINTS. *DING* THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, PLEASE CONTINUE WORKING HARD.]

She could hear it leave the conversation.

No, it isn't a system, this isn't a system plot story. That is what we call an Observer. They do not have souls or personality, they just make the job of those above us easier. They're like CCTV cameras but from heaven.

Heavenly Cameras, get it?

No? Okay I shouldn't throw bad puns like that. I don't have humor.

She stood up and dusted her jeans and her violet jacket.

"I wanna eat some burger and fries. Where's the nearest Market place here?"

A whole map appeared in front of her, pinpointing her current location, creating a three dimensional image of what she might encounter in the shortest way to take, then calculating the distance and time.

(TAKE A LEFT AND CONTINUE FROM THEN ON. YOU WILL ARRIVE AT DESIRED LOCATION IN THIRTY MINUTES ON FOOT.)

"Or I could just teleport."

She's too tired to run towards a market place when she could just snap her fingers and get there.

She snapped her fingers and then she appeared inconspicuously in a Market Place alleyway and casually got out dressed in a white shirt, pink jacket, and black jeans, contrary to her clothes earlier.

She even had a little shopping basket.

"Hi, how much for a kilo?"

She pointed at the potatoes, thinking about fine dining in her own home. These days had been hard for her. To eat home cooked food, or rest well in a warm bed was a luxury since those shadows appeared to harass the leads. She just want to rest like a normal human being and pretend she still needs to cuddle her teddy bears.

Nah, she was joking.

She just want to eat and sit like a potato for a short amount of time before working again.

'But that's not a choice, isn't it? You can't really predict when those things would appear.'

She sighed, and knew that her inner voice was correct.

"Hm?"

She got a notification and groaned in frustration, making the vendor lady flinch.

'I just finished off a fucking problem earlier-like come on!!!!'

She was subconsciously pulling on her hair and washing her face with her hands making the lady think she's mentally retarded....

"U-Uhm... That would be 230...."

"Yeah, sure....."

She gloomily left the market, and headed towards her house.

' No, Never. I NEED MY REST DAY.'

Wel, truth is too far from reality.

"Identification?"

"Hehe."

She sheepishly smiled at the security guard and handed her I. D. Today, she's pretending to be a janitor to infiltrate the company of the lead's family. Last time she was here, she pretended to be a new employee to exterminate a ghastly demon.

Well, that's a story for another time.

Quickly making her way to inside the company along with everyone else who went out for lunch, Osa was ready to kill some demons again and save the world.

YAY.... *SARCASM*

POINT TWO

"Ma'am, all of the board members have already gathered in the conference room."

Red bottom heels, tight black pencil skirt, white long sleeves top with black colored buttons, a sophisticated bun and a clean, beautiful face.

Miss Sarai Northweinstein is a very beautiful woman with a very charismatic personality. At a very young age she had lost her mother, and her father tried to give her all the love in the world but he died early too.

She was eighteen when he died, and the poor girl was left to defend herself from the clutches of greedy people. She struggled all the way to where she is now, standing on top of everyone.

"Then we head there now."

Even if she experienced hardships, she remained kind towards everyone.

'She's really one of a kind. I do hope she stays like that because I don't want to save a bitch. Hell, I would kill her myself if she becomes a threat to this world.'

This is exactly why she was tasked or rather, begged to do this type of work in exchange for her freedom of choice.

She's able to do everything, without a second thought, as long as it does not involve fucking up herself and her job.

Downside is, she really does not care about the rules and stuff. So, if this female threatens her mission, which is equivalent to threatening her own freedom, she would surely kill her even if it takes one pillar off the world.

'After all, there are many pillars. As long as I keep them alive and not die after she dies, then the world would be able to go on.'

It didn't say anything about her being the only hope of the world.

Osa, short for her name Osiris Stenna Abeross, has a very logical and practical approach on things. She always had an explanation for anything that comes along her way and when she does encounter something unexplainable, she's used to doing quick self-explanatory operations within her head.

It was a mindset somebody who knew she was nothing in this world, got to have in order to stay alive, so it was fast, precise and sharp.

She continued to clean along the halls, watching as they passed by.

'There it is. How can it come so close this time?'

She narrowed her eyes at the woman beside Sarai Northweinstein. What humans cannot see, Osa could clearly do so. She could discern them before even without the aid of her abilities now. So it was easy to tell what it is and who.

You may see a beautiful secretary, but to Osa, she could see two ram horns and three scaled tail. The face also have scales, and the eyes had no irises. Skin that was pale green in color, feet with talons and nails as long as a three inch knife.

'A body stealer.'

They feed on human envy and slowly takes over their bodies. It then eats the soul in order to fully integrate with the body and hide itself from potential enemies by pretending to be a human. In this way, they can also lure foolish lesser demons and eat them.

It is, as we call it, a cannibal to its own kind.

This one is greedy, trying to take over the body of Sarai. Does it want to steal the favor of the world?

Not on Osa's watch.

"Ashley, I forgot some papers inside a brown envelope in my office."

"Ah yes I'll go get it ma'am."

She smiled, waiting for the beautiful woman and the rest of her entourage to go let into the room before she left with a cold expression on her face.

'Wait till I get your body, b*tch.'

The secretary was unaware someone had been tailing her from the moment she had left the lead's side. She was busy planning her sweet sweet revenge against the human who dares to order her around.

Osa found it hilarious as the body it chose was a secretary so it wouldn't make sense if Sarai wouldn't put her to work.

Dumb demon.

She slowly closed the door behind the creature, making a click sound.

"Hey who are you? Why are you in the C. E. O's office?!"

Five four, one inch heels, Grey pencil skirted secretary clothes, long brown hair in a bun, glasses, and a beautiful pair of green eyes.

Osa adjusted her janitor's gloves, which hid her own gloves underneath it, with a grin on her face.

" You have taste. Too bad you're not staying too long in that body."

The creature looked at her with slitted eyes, and hissed.

"You smell bad hissssssss....."

Osa gave her a dead panned face.

"If you guys stop fucking up my rest days I could've taken a bath."

The creature tried to run out of the door, rapidly like the wind, but Osa had already locked the door with a demon locking talisman.

"GRAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"

And oh, did we mention it also burns demons? No?

"Do you like it? It's only 25 hundred a piece."

The demon ripped all pretenses after looking at the smug Osa. It grew seven feet tall, screeching with so much force Osa had to squint her eyes with the wind force it created.

Thankfully she already sound and shock proofed the place. It wouldn't make sense if she didn't.

"Now, now. Don't get so hyped up. I didn't know you'd be so excited."

"I am Not excited at all!!"

The creature's three spikey tail slammed unto the wall, which in turn, electrocuted it. Osa let out a laugh. The monster snarled at her and charged with full force, claws shining like daggers, feet creating cracks.

"Hehehe, you better hold out more than the rest because I need some serious exercise to let off steam."

Meanwhile, humans continued to work unaware of whatever was happening above them or in some cases, beside them.

A tail swooped her way, so she dodged and whistled.

" I'm so flexible yeah? "

At the taunting, the monster became even more angry it couldn't catch one damn human.

"Grahhhhhh!!!!"

"Can you sy something other than GRAH-WOAH THERE UGLY!"

Osa managed to avoid its deadly poison breath and roll to the other side of the office.

"AS IF YOU LOOK BETTER THAN ME!"

"She speaks!"

A whole table was thrown her way, then the potted plants, the decorations, then the curved TV by the wall, then the mini fridge on the side, then there goes the file cabinet.

"Come on, are you out of items to throw?"

The monster looked so pissed you can see viens popping out of its head. It looked around with a growl, before seemingly spotting something to throw at Osa.

"Oh no, no no no. Let's talk about this or it will lead to DIVORCE-WAH!"

The creature ripped the walls with its bare hands and threw it at Osa. The lady on the other room screamed and fainted.

"Oh great, now we have human casualties."

As if she cared. As long as they're not dead, she can cover it all up.

"Let's finish this alright? I'm done playing."

She charged towards the monster, who was read to take her on. But poor monster, she was facing someone who had no rules.

"GRAHHHHHH YOU CHEATER!!!"

From behind, a huge blow made it kneel unto the ground with a heavy thud, dust flying everywhere, with pieces of the wall crumbling down. Osa wasted no time and finished her job. Killing creatures with physical bodies is easier than killing those who have none, just like the shadows earlier. She spent about two days luring those things out and kill them.

With creatures like this body stealer, she can kill them like how humans kill animals. Slit the throat with a special knife made with the bone of a higher diety, then let the blood drain from the body so it would turn into dust. Since draining it's blood naturally was not plausible in the place they're in, she drained the blood from its body using a type of cleansing technique and built a floating blood sphere.

The body turned into dust right after, and with it the human it had occupied. Sadly, even if you killed the body stealer, you wouldn't be able to be the human it had occupied. Also, even if you managed to remove the body stealer from the body of the host, that body would become unable to function normally. They would either go crazy or loose some body functions like moving etc.

So it was better for the human to die rather than to endure pain and suffering.

'They don't have souls anyway.'

She looked around the damage with a sigh, and raised her hands to reform the room into its original form. The collapsed wall debris levitated off the ground and into its original place. Osa crossed to the other room after setting the fainted lady on her seat. She went through the wall like a specter, creating gold micro cuts on the wall that disappeared right after she had stood inside the room.

"Danm, if I didn't have any convenient repairing abilities that female would be so upset."

Although she is kind, she's still human. She'd investigate whoever did it, and Osa didnt want to test the luck of a lead. If she finds her and Osa gets into her radar, Osa doesn't know if it would be deterrent to her job.

'Now, Now. Let's get these papers to Mrs. Female lead. "

As she picked up the brown folder, her clothes and face changed into that of the secretary.

The door silently opened and the people in the room payed it no heed. The clicking of the heels walking towards Sarai made her look at her secretary.

Something was off, but she couldn't point it out.

"Ma'am here you go."

"Thank you Emilie."

The woman nods, silently standing to the side. Sarai went back to talking, while Osa, who had pretended to be the secretary, surveys the room with bored eyes.

'Oh? Three of the other leads seems to be in a heated argument with each other. Wait, how did these three even exist in one room today?

Those three, grew up together. Margaux, Cheryl, and Faye. Male, Male, Female.

Although they grew up together, and went to the same places of educational attainment, they never got along. Margaux Lorenscher grew up in a family of businessmen with huge egos and prides. He grew up competitive and he loves to compete with the other two, Cheryl Silas, who grew up as the second son of a family of both businessmen and showbiz stars and Faye Elise Stelle, a daughter from the house of Stelle, which majors in hotel chains and fashion.

Sara's family is into building things. When you say build, they just don't build the structure, but also caters to the interior and exterior design and also provides the materials used to build and design the place. So these four decided to collaborate on many projects.

"We should continue importing materials from Simon and Co. We have contracted them for a long time and there were no problems. What else could be the PROBLEM?"

"Well, you're right about these, Mr. Lorenscher. But I have consulted with Mr. Chasney, and we decided to use a more sturdy, shock-proof materials for this project. Miss Northweinstein agreed to my proposal already."

Margaux looked at Sarai as if telling her to say no. But Sarai, with a subtle smile, nods.

" Yes, this new company is run by an old friend of Mr. Silas. He is a renowned man in the engineering world, with many undeniably great feats overseas. I have also personally checked his background so I am sure this will be the best decision we will be making. I have also spoken to Simon and Co. Already, and they were willing to back out on this project and work with another client. "

Cheryl, a man with brown hair and a pair of green foxy eyes, slid a triumpath eyes at Margaux who clenched his Jaws in anger.

" Does the board have anything to say about this changes? Questions anyone? "

" Well, I am only worried if the budget would still cover the expenses..."

One by one the board members expressed their opinions regarding the new changes to the supply source. Osa who was bored and unnoticed, went to a corner to play with her phone.

Of course she used noise cancelation to not disturb them.

Only her, would use her powers for things like this. No one could tell her otherwise.

'This annoying candy. Why aren't you popping?!'

(She seems to be playing some type of candy crush game)

When Sarai slightly looked to a corner, she found her secretary preoccupied with her phone. Normally, she would feel disappointed with this type of behavior but she didnt know why she felt like it was natural for her secretary to act like this. There was no negative feeling at all...

Did her secretary ever acted like this before?

"Sarai were you listening?"

"Yes of course."

She couldn't put a finger on it, although it was weird....

She really couldn't put a finger on it, even after the meeting and she was sitting with her friends at lunch.

"Sarai, are you alright?"

She looked at Faye with a smile.

"Ah yes, I was just thinking of something."

"Hoh? What could interest our princess so much she seems so invested on it?"

"Nothing. Let's just continue eating. I still have to call an investor from overseas."

"Hm, well, if you say so?"

Margaux shrugged, cutting on his steak.

"Are you free this weekend Sarai? My mom will host a cocktail party. She told me to invite you."

"Well, I can't really turn down auntie Deborah right?"

Faye gave her a small giggle.

"Hey no fair. You should come to my family's party next month too!"

"Tch, you're so competitive Margaux. Don't exhaust Sarai she's had enough trouble."

"Hey! Are you indirectly saying that I'm a troublesome person?!"

" Didn't say that."

If looks could kill, Faye would've been dead a thousand times already, with how Margaux was staring at her with threatening eyes.

"Now calm down the two of you..."

(YOU HAVE GAINED 400 POINTS, 50 POINTS MINUS TO DAMAGES DONE ON MISSION. CURRENT BALANCE, 350.)

"You're ripping me off again. Even if I repaired the damages done I still get a 50 points fine? I should've just left it in rubble earlier."

(MISS PLEASE AVOID ANY TYPE OF ACTIONS THAT COULD ALERT HUMANS OF THE FACT WE EXISTED.)

"Ah? Why should I do that? Didn't you all deduct me some points? I feel so cheated if I fix the damage done by some monster but still get a fine."

(BUT THE PROTOCOL STATES-)

"Damn protocols. You know I don't give a damn about those protocols. Anyway, can I apply for an extra points activity?"

(SENDING AN APPLICATION..... APPLICATION APPROVED. FROM NOW ON I WILL BE ISSUING YOU SIDE JOBS.)

"Okay, do I have side jobs now?"

(YES. STAY AS SARAI NORTHWEINSTEIN' S SECRETARY.)

"No. Decline."

'If I stay as a stationary employee in this place, how can I do my main mission? And as I've said, I have only one employer and he's already and ***. If I add another, I have two asses. I know she's nice and all, but the peps around her? I can't stand it.'

(WOULD YOU LIKE ANOTHER SIDE JOB THEN?)

"Yes please. But nothing trashy or stationary."

(HOW ABOUT BEING AN ESCORT FOR ONE NIGHT? NO SEXUAL STUFF I GUARANTEE.)

(Author: Really no sexual stuff, I mean it.)

"Now whose the lucky guy I'm asked to bait?"

(THEODEO CATHEDROSS.)

"One of the leads? Danm, I can go on a vacation in Reign Country?"

(HE'S COMING TO THE COUNTRY TO DEAL WITH THE FAMILY PROBLEMS.)

"Ah, I remember now. Is he not one of the most merciless leads in this world?"

(DO NOT WORRY. YOU WILL NOT DIE ANYWAY.)

"Gee thanks that makes me feel better."

She smiled and greeted people as she got unto the secretary's car and drove away. Then she went into the freeway, driving the car as fast as she could, and then purposely crashed into a truck to die.

The big truck's driver stepped out of his vehicle with a horrified face, as other cars in the freeway stopped. Police and paramedics came to the rescue a few moments later, and pronounced the driver of the car, dead.

"What?!"

Sarai, stood from her seat, and the other people in the room had puzzled faces, constantly looking at her and then their laptops.

"I'm sorry ma'am, she is dead on the spot. We tried to find her family but she had none, so we called your number who was in the speed dial. Are you a relative, Ma'am?"

"I'm her boss. I will take care of her, where is she now?"

"I'm Saint Clancy's hospital."

"I will send a personal assistant in there, thank you so much please take good care of her."

"We will ma'am, condolences."

"Thank you."

The call was cut off, and Sarai looked out of her glass walls with an inexplicable feeling in her heart. It was already six seven p. m., and just earlier her secretary was by her side...

Life really is unpredictable. People come, people go.

But why does she feel as if something was off?
