I woke up with a start. My heart was pounding. The dream had to be fake, yet it was so vivid. I shuddered. The dream was so bright, with flashes of light. There was a scream, blood-. I stopped. I couldn't worry about that now. I dressed and went to school. As I was walking, people stared at me. I never had many friends, but I had one childhood friend. I never would have known how messed up my life was about to become on this day.

"Hey Skyler!"

"Hi Leo."

This is my third year in highschool with my friend, Skyler White. We became friends when we were little. This year was going to be special. I had asked her something this year and I still haven't gotten an answer.

"How's it going?"

"Fine,"she replied.

I guess we were still awkward.

"Well, I have to go to class."

"Kay."

I stood there looking at her leave thinking about how special this year could be.

Sometimes, when I look into her blue eyes, I feel a sense of hope for some reason, but then the feeling diminishes and I feel dread.

For reasons I don't know, people always stare at Skyler, but when I ask them, they look at Skyler with pity on their faces. As far as I could tell, Skyler's only friend was me. I was pretty happy about it at first,but then I saw Skyler's face filled with tears. She was staring at a group of girls in our class. I didn't understand why she couldn't make friends and I still don't because everytime I raise the subject, she raises her hand up to my face and says," I just can't. "

My Gods. Leo. I should have told him. I should have told for years now. My darkest secret. Why me?!

Ever since I was in kindergarten every person I've made friends with has been hurt in a way that is unpredictable. My best friend in 2nd grade was beaten. My friend in 5th grade was nearly killed by a train. Everytime something like this happened, my parents would say it wasn't my fault. That it was an accident, but I knew I had caused it.

I would visit my friends in the hospital everyday crying at their side, until I decided to move schools. I knew Leo after 5th grade and we've been stuck together and nothing has happened yet but the chances are low.

As I walked home from school today I heard a voice.

"Skyler!"

I turned around and there was Leo running at me and staring with his beautiful green eyes. I can't stand it anymore.

"Le-."

"Skyler!"

He ran up to me and kissed me. When he let me go, I gasped as my face filled with tears and I ran off leaving Leo alone as he stared at my back.

Why!? Why was Skyler crying? Why did she run? I went through these questions carefully in my head but I couldn't come up with a conclusion. I walked by the riverbank thinking about Skyler's face as she ran away. It looked as though she was terrified of something.

I guess I'll ask her about it tomorrow... that is if she'll still talk to me. I had always thought that Skyler and I could talk about anything, but I guess it's too hard for us to do that.

I walked down the streets reminiscing about the past when I heard a loud screech. I turned around and everything turned black.

He was telling the truth. Leo really does love me, but I can't accept his feelings. I'm ashamed of how I ran from him after the kiss, leaving him by himself but I can't do it. I can't find myself going out with someone who is precious to me. I turned on my bed and thought of what to tell him the next day as I drifted off to sleep.

The next morning as I was waking to school, I realized that Leo hadn't arrived yet. I considered the possibilities of what could have happened. He could be late for class because he's asleep. He could be heartbroken because of me. I decided to not worry and walked into class.

He didn't show up.

After school, I walked home and decided I would check to see if he was home. Then I got a call that would change my life forever.

\~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~

I woke up. And blinked. My surroundings blinded me. I was lying something soft. Maybe a bed? But where was I? I sat up and collapsed, my head spinning. Then, there was a voice crying out. "Doctor!"

A strange man appeared staring at me with concern.

" Are you alright?"

" My head hurts and the room is spinning."

Then a women came in.

" Leo! Are you alright!? Are you hurt? How could this happen?"

" Mrs. Tanner! Please calm yourself. Your son is hurt and we need to know if there is anything to do to help. Now, Mr. Tanner could you describe what happened last night?"

" I don't remember."

" What do you mean?"

" I don't remember. "

\~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~ \~

Beep Beep Beep

My phone was ringing. Who would be calling be right now? I picked it up and answered.

"Hello?"

"SKYLER COME TO HOSPITAL QUICKLY!" Beep.

That sounded like Leo's mom but why would she call me? I grabbed my coat and walked out of the house. The hospital wouldn't be far but it was cold at night. I reached the hospital in 10 minutes and walked in. Mrs. Tanner was sitting in a chair and she looked as though she had a rough time. I walked up to her.

"Um... Mrs. Tann-."

"Skyler."

She looked up at me, tears rolling down her face.

"He doesn't remember."

"What do you mean?"

"Go in and see...please...maybe, just maybe..."

I walked to the door and looked at Mrs. Tanner once more. How did she come into this state?

I opened the door. And there with my own eyes, I saw him. Leo was lying on the bed with a distant look. A bandaged was wrapped around his head.

"Leo, what happened! Are you okay? When did-."

"Um. Who are you? I'm sorry. I don't remember anything. Did you know me?"

"What do you mean? Of course we know each other. Ever since I we were little."

" I'm sorry. I don't remember you."

I stared at him. This couldn't  be happening. Not now. Not after what happened. He looked at me with a confused look. I felt tears running down. I looked away. How could this have happened and what would happen now?

I lay on my bed, helpless. I didn't remember what happened or anything else. The doctor asked me a lot of questions but I didn't have an answer for anything. The woman sitting next to him who panicked earlier was still crying.

" So Leo, you don't remember anything? Anything at all?"

"No..."

"Looks like it's amnesia."

"Doctor, will he regain his memories."

"I can't be for sure, but for now we need to decide what will happen."

"I'm going to go catch my breath."

The woman got up without looking back and went out. The doctor left right after leaving me with unanswered question to who I was and what happened to me. I tried to sit up and dropped again. My head felt as though it would split apart. I lay there for a while trying to rid myself of the headache. After a while, it resided and I heard voices outside.

I dimly heard the door open. A girl walked in. She had blue eyes and blonde hair. She looked really pretty. Her hair was tied into a ponytail and her eyes were clear.

"Leo, what happened! Are you okay? When did-."

"Um. Who are you? I'm sorry. I don't remember anything. Did you know me?"

"What do you mean? Of course we know each other. Ever since I we were little."

" I'm sorry. I don't remember you."

I looked at her and tears came down her face. Who was she? Was she related to the woman outside somehow? I didn't remember her at all, but my heart hurt.

Ding

"AAHHHH!"

My head hurts. It feels like it's going to crack open. I hear people yelling in the sea of pain. Then everything turns black and I head into unconsciousness.

I stood and watched as the doctors gathered around Leo. When he collapsed, I stood there staring, shocked. After what was an eternity, the doctor told Mrs. Tanner and I to go home and rest and that he would be monitoring Leo's condition. I walked home first and went straight to my room and collapsed. I flipped over and stared at the ceiling. My tears came rushing out again as I remembered how I felt when we first met and how Leo would not be able to remember anything. Before long, I had fallen asleep and was awoken by the sunlight that burst through my window.

I went to school as I usually did but this time Leo wasn't there to accompany me. I went to all my classes and when my last class ended, I received a message from Leo's mother.

Skyler come to the hospital today. The doctor will be telling us more information on how to recover Leo's memories.

I felt a spark of hope and quickly replied. I ran as fast as I could to the hospital and met Mrs. Tanner at the entrance. Her eyes were bloodshot and noticeable bags were under her eyes. We walked into the hospital and walked into Leo's room. He was asleep but the doctor was sitting in a chair next to his bed. He looked up and greeted us.

"Good afternoon."

"Good afternoon doctor. How is he?"

" So far nothing has changed in his condition and he still hasn't been able to remember anything but I have reason to believe there is a way to get his memories back."

"How? What will have to happen?"

" I believe that he should go back to school as he used to. The surrounding areas might become familiar to him and allow for at least a few of his memories to come back. For now you should alert the teachers at his school and see if they can ask the students to help in recovering his memories."

" Alright, thank you doctor."

Mrs. Tanner stood up and I followed suit. When we walked out she told me this.

" Skyler. You are Leo's best friend and I believe that you will be able to recover his memories. Please keep a watch on him and see what you could do. Please Skyler. It's our last hope."

"Okay Mrs. Tanner. I'll keep watch."

I went home and wondered what was going to happen in the next week. Will everything really be fine?

I woke up and opened my eyes. Flashes of light blinded me. I blinked a few times. I sat up on my bed. That's right. I'm in a hospital. I tried to remember what happened before my headache but my mind was empty. I heard the door open and a doctor came in.

" Good morning Leo!"

I stared at him. Then I asked him the question that has been in my mind since the past few days.

" What will happen to me?"

" It's been discussed that you will be able to go back to you former school. You will  be discharged next week and your mother will take you home."

" My mother? The woman who was here last time?"

" Yes that's right."

" So that was my mother..."

I looked out the window and stared. If that was my mother than that means that I could find a way to remember. I must have made her worry. Her eyes were bloodshot and her hair was disheveled. I hope I can go home soon.

It's been a week and I'm finally discharged. My mother picked me up and it was decided that I would start school again in the next week. I would be starting a new life until I regained my memories. There was also the question of who the girl from last time was but I felt a stabbing pain in my heart each time I tried to remember her. I hope I'll be able to see her again and talk to her. Maybe she knows who I am. I felt tired for some reason so I hopped on my bed and had a dreamless night. What will happen next week I wonder?

It has been two weeks. Leo will be coming back to school today. Who knows what will happen. I just hope not that much will change. I want his memories to come back...soon. I still need to give him my answer.

The school announced what was going to happen and how we should act around Leo on the announcements. I don't know if I can bear to see him or not. My chest hurts every time I think about him. If the people he knew could do something...please...bring him back. I can only watch from a distance but I truly believe there is a way. Please...please.

I was nervous. I still didn't remember anything and I was still confused about what was going on but apparently I didn't need to worry about anything. My parents, I believe, told me that they had contacted the principal at the school I had gone to and said that I should just try to act "normal". As if I remembered what normal was.

I stood in front of the gates of the school. I was to head to the principal's office and to my first class but one look at the school and my head felt like it would explode. I looked back up and fell on one knee holding my head. My head hurt and my ears rung. The ringing in my ears continued for a bit and began to dim down as I kneeled in that position. When it stopped, I stood up slowly. Then I began, step by step, I walked to what was my school.
