Teaching To Love

Prologue – How it all started...

Angel! You shouldn't have seen this! You definitely couldn't have seen J.P. shirtless... He's your student, it's absurd!

That's what I've been telling myself since I closed the door just behind my back. I lean against her and close my eyes and then relive the scene...

I walked into the room without knocking, because I asked him to come dress up in the play for at least ten minutes to rehearse and it wasn't possible that he was still like that when I walked in. But he was! And I can't forget what I saw.

J.P. is my third year high school student, what should he have? At least 12 years unless I... Where am I in my head? Did I like what I saw? It can not be!

I refuse to believe where my thoughts are taking me… I take a deep breath counting to ten to compose myself and then go back to replaying the scene in my head.

What the hell! Why does he have to be so cute? And so young?

I'm lost in my thoughts again as the door slowly opens, I shift my weight so he doesn't realize I'm leaning against the door, much less how the sight has disturbed my thoughts, and I turn to face him, and he Seeing that seeing him shirtless, with messy hair and with his defined abdomen showing had no effect on me, but I'm not sure I'm being so convincing.

- Sorry teacher, I was coming to change when they asked me to help with the change of a panel, I didn't think it would take so long. He avoids looking into my eyes...

- No problem, we are all waiting for you to continue the rehearsal, can we? I ask, looking at him like nothing has happened, I think I'm still a good actress...

- Of course teacher, let's go.

We head to the amphitheater where we are rehearsing Romeo and Juliet, a play that the third year of high school will perform at the school's Spring Festival.

Everyone is waiting, so we start to act, we repeat the scenes a few times until we are all tired, so I end the rehearsal and dismiss the students, but I stay a little longer, organizing my thoughts...

The idea was to put some scenario possibilities on paper, but after what I saw earlier it's a little difficult to concentrate on anything else... As I try to get it into my head that the best thing was to forget about everything that happened. hand touching my shoulder, I then turn to see what they want from me already talking:

- What can I do to... I immediately interrupt my speech when I run into him... It's JP and I can't even imagine what he wants with me at this time, after a few seconds I smile and complete my sentence :

- to help you? He laughs realizing that I got lost along the way, and I found myself again as I sometimes do...

And that's when it all started...

Chapter 1 – Looking for a job...

I'm Angel, and I just moved to town. I start by introducing myself to the school principal. I teach arts, and I've seen the Lord need a teacher in this area, so I decided to step forward to see if I meet the school's requirements. I conclude my presentation by making it clear what I came to do in your room, towards the end of the school holidays.

- From your resume, despite your young age, you already have enough experience, and speak with confidence too. Appoints the director.

- I started working early, giving internships while I was still studying, and I was always very communicative, I participated in many plays while in the school theater group, and also in college. I explain.

- So you're an artist? Interesting! I know it's still too early, but at the end of the year we have the Spring Festival and high school seniors always present a fundraiser for the city's home. Sir... he interrupts the sentence in the middle and I get the hint:

- Ms. He smiles and concludes:

- That, miss, would you feel comfortable working in this type of activity?

- Of course sir. I've always liked acting, and directing will definitely be very interesting.

- But we'll have to make the scenery, costumes and everything else... You'll have a lot of extra work, and maybe you won't be able to have much time for leisure during this period. He tests me.

- Don't worry Lord, with time you will realize that I like teaching a lot and that this ends up becoming my leisure too.

- Don't say I didn't warn you... He tells me between a sarcastic smile. Let's do an experiment and if you meet the standards of the school we will hire you. He ends by extending his hand towards me, I shake his hand and nod, he then asks me to go to the secretariat and get the times of the meetings that will take place in the coming days and the documents I need to bring to enter the papers of the my work. I do exactly as he says and walk home happy and light as an angel.

Coming home I think I really need this job, since I moved to this city my money was almost gone, I managed to rent an apartment with my reservations and buy some essentials besides groceries, however, if I didn't start work , would soon be in trouble.

Relieved by my first conquest in this city, I go to the window. It's summer and people walk peacefully along the street. A lot of people are on vacation due to the end of year festivities so I'm starting to think about which play I should stage with the students at the Spring Festival, is there already a specific play? That I don't know, I believe I'll find out when I participate in the teachers' meetings that will take place soon, but I'm sure of one thing... I'll be responsible for this piece, because I'm going to be hired by the school, I need...

After a week of meetings, planning and studying to get everything organized for the beginning of classes, the pedagogical coordinator calls me to talk in her room...

- Good morning teacher Angel, how are you? Please come in... She greets me with a smile on her face, and with a wave of her hand shows me the armchair in front of her desk, I sit down and she crosses her desk and sits across from me.

- What do you think of the school teacher? She asks me, feigning interest...

- I'm looking forward to starting classes, I've enjoyed everything I've learned here, but I can't wait to meet the students and teach... I answer sincerely.

- What a great teacher, I hope you will continue with all this animation when you start teaching, especially when they start work for the Spring Festival. And then I finally understand where she is going with this conversation.

- Yes of course. The director had already told me about the Festival the day we spoke. I explain to her.

- I imagine, she says as she smiles at me, coffee, water or tea teacher? She offers me...

- Coffee please! She pours me a cup in silence, then continues her explanation:

- The Spring Festival is the apple of the director's eye, that's because the whole city appreciates the event, and we always raise a lot of money for the asylum, therefore, he will always be around reminding you that everything must be perfect, I fear the pressure be a little too much for you who are still so young. She says in an ironic tone.

- Don't worry Ma'am, I reply very happy to know that she is many years older than me, I'm laughing inside it's serious, but my face remains serious as it should be, I have experience in the acting field, I've staged and acted in several plays, it won't be a problem for me to organize a play that is as good as the previous ones. To put it mildly, I think, but I don't say it out loud so she won't think I'm too proud, which I truly am.

- We will see then, teacher, I'm trusting you. The words she uses don't quite match the tone and look she's using as she directs them to me. We need to choose soon which will be the piece to start organizing.

- That's exactly what I'd like to know Madam. I remind myself again that she must be irritated that I'm younger than her, this is so much fun! How is the part selection done? Is it chosen by the principal, staff or students?

- In fact, we do it that way... We teachers, parents and students give our suggestions at the end of the previous year, and the following year we do a vote among students and teachers and the most voted play is staged... She explains to me.

- Okay, so you already have these three options so I can know where I'm getting myself? I ask laughing so she's amused, but she doesn't seem to have any sense of humor.

Chapter 2 – Pleasant and unpleasant surprises...

She starts rummaging through her papers on the table as she mumbles something unintelligible... she finds a slightly crumpled paper and declares:

- I knew I had left last year's notes somewhere and that they would be important for this year, she looks at me with disdain and I ask:

- And then? Still looking at me with disdain she says:

- Don't you want to ask the director to do some play you're already used to? So you don't need to leave your comfort zone. She continues to look at me and completes it with a triumphant air. You don't seem to have the pulse to direct one of these plays, I don't want to offend you teacher it's just that you're too young... She leaves her prints in the air and I just smile as I reach out for her to hand me the paper and say :

- Don't worry really Madam, I stress, although I'm young I have enough experience and I don't want anything at school to be changed because I'm entering now, we'll do everything exactly as you did and I'm sure it will be wonderful. I conclude with a triumphant smile on my face, I'm already standing up when she grabs my wrist and says:

- I hope you remember those words of yours and keep that smile on your face until the end of the year. She frowns. I look at my fist she's still holding and look back at her before reinforcing:

- Don't worry ma'am. I manage to let go, not without a little effort and leave the room too curious to know which pieces will be on the vote so I can organize the presentation that I don't even care about anymore, so when I look at the paper in my hand I see my three options:

Midsummer Night's Dreams.

Hamelet.

Romeo and Juliet.

That it! All from Shakespeare, these folks don't really play around on duty. But I sigh with relief, after all Shakespeare was one of the main authors of my graduation paper, girl, you really don't have to worry, you're lucky!

While I'm lost in my thoughts the coordinator opens the door and says:

- Don't be scared teacher, last year we did Hairspray and the year before The Phantom of the Opera, I believe that none of these will be a problem, am I right? She really thinks I'm worried about the parts, poor thing! Any of these I'm sure we'll rock, so before I answer I think, let the games begin!

- I'm not scared at all Madam, don't worry, I'll see you tomorrow!

I decide to get out of this woman's sight soon before I decide to fly at her neck! How can a person be as unpleasant as she is? What does she know about me?

She doesn't even know me! She never saw me working! How can she judge me like that, and create the worst expectations of me!

I return home somewhat grumpy, but soon I remember the pieces that I have the possibility of working with the students, and I'm happy again, nothing will be able to make me sad today, nothing!

When I wake up the next day I'm really excited, this is the first day of class at the new school, so I can't wait to meet the students and get to know each one of them. I get up from my bed and go straight to the kitchen to make coffee. When I pass by my cell phone I put a random song to play, and it's just perfect for the moment!

Attention! This is a book with a soundtrack, so whenever there's an important song it's a good idea to play it while you read, believe me, your experience will be unique!

• Photograph – Ed Sheeran

As I prepare my breakfast I let the song envelop me and when I realize I'm dancing in the middle of my tiny kitchen, it makes me laugh...

Right after breakfast I run to the shower and change into jeans, a Mickey T-shirt and an all star and I'm ready for my first day of school.

I'm humming to school, and when I arrive all the teachers are being directed to the amphitheater, the students arrive right away and it's important that everyone is introduced, after all, some teachers are new, like me.

I confess that I have butterflies in my stomach, how will they be? How will you receive me? I've done it thousands of times, but each time feels like the first time.

When all the students are seated, the principal starts his speech and introduces one by one the teachers, some are well received by the students, others not as much as expected, lol, but everyone receives a round of applause.

The director leaves me last, damn it, I don't like this. He finally says:

- Personal attention, now I would like to call the new art teacher, who will be responsible for the presentation of our famous and long-awaited Spring Festival play. She is new folks, so I ask you to receive her with great affection. He turns towards me, no! Isn't he going to do what I'm thinking he's going to do?

- Professor Angel, could you come here and inform our students which were the pieces voted at the end of last year, so they can already think about which one to vote on.

I stand up and as I'm walking towards the headmaster I notice that all eyes are on me now, this causes my stomach to swell with butterflies. I notice that as I move, it feels like an endless distance, even though I'm only a few steps away, some students are yelling, clapping, and whistling. I finally reach the place where the director is with the microphone, he hands it to me and I start:

- Good morning guys! I'm interrupted by clapping and screaming. The principal makes a face at the students and with his arms motions for them to stop screaming, I go on. The selected pieces were Dreams of a Midsummer Night, Hamelet and Romeo and Juliet.

When I finish speaking I am cheered by the students, and I have no doubts which of the pieces will be chosen for this year's Spring Festival!
