"Centuries ago, Japan was at peace until one day a monster called Yamata no Orochi appeared. Orochi brought terror, destruction and death along with strange creatures called Yokai. War broke out, but in the end the Yokai were the victors. However, it was believed that a man named Susano fought and managed to slay Orochi. Over the next four hundred years, the people of Japan have been living in fear of the Yokai, whilst a small group of warriors rose up in attempt to kill the Yokai."
Tokashi Shinoda stepped out of his small house and surveyed the village path. It was a normal morning in Shinjitsu. He began walking along the path, tapping the handle of his Katana. He continued toward the village blacksmith, not to have his sword repaired, but to see someone. "Samurai warrior." someone called to him. He turned and smiled. "Not yet, Kenjo-san." he said before continuing.
He walked up to the blacksmith and looked around. "Tokashi, over here." called Kisha Yagō. She ran towards him. "Kisha. So what is new." "I attempted to forge a Katana like yours, but the blade warped and cracked." she said. "You will get it one day, I know you will." he said. "If only I remember exactly how I made this." said Kisha, touching her Wakizachi. The two stared at each other for a while. "Do you know where Yuji is?" asked Tokashi.
Yuji Shinoda lined up his aim and fired an arrow. It hit the target dead center. He drew a second arrow and readied to fire. "Hey, Yuji." called Tokashi. He and Kisha ran towards him. He looked back at them. "Hey, there." he said, fireing the arrow and hitting the target. "Nice shot." said Kisha. "Well, I'm not called the best archer in Shinjitsu for nothing." he said. A cold wind blew from the forest line, behind the target range.
The three of them looked at the forest. "Have you ever wondered what it's like on the other side. If the rest of Japan is like us. Afraid that if they leave sight of their homes, they may be killed?" asked Tokashi. "I often wonder. Tokashi, do you think we will ever stop living in fear of them?" asked Kisha. "Maybe not, but why don't we try concer that fear." he said hand on the handle of his Katana. "The three of us are armed. Why don't we dare to venture into the forest?" he continued. "Everyone who goes out there comes back dead, we don't know what powerful Yokai await us." said Yuji.
A loud sound echoed from the forest followed by the sound of trees snapping. The three stumbled backwards as the ground shook and a massive snake with eight heads emerged from the tree line. Yamata no Orochi smelt the air and set his sights on Shinjitsu. With a loud roar, Orochi slithered towards the village. "We have to warn them." said Tokashi, running towards the village.
"Orochi! Yamata no Orochi is coming!" yelled Tokashi. Kisha and Yuji came up behind him. The ground began to tremor as Orochi closed in on Shinjitsu. There was the sound of an explosion as Orochi slammed one of its heads through a house. Debris went flying and the sounds of coming death and destruction were drowned out by the monsters roars.
Yamata no Orochi began to snap up and swallow the fleeing people of Shinjitsu. His tails smashed through house and the peacefulness of the village was turned into a nightmare.
The ground trembled again and Kisha fall. Tokashi turned around and ran to her. "Come on, we are not dying here." he said, helping her up. The two were suddenly hit by a warm blast of Orochi's breath as one of its heads came closer to them. "Get back!" yelled Tokashi, drawing his Katana. Orochi snarled at them, not afraid at all. It moved closer and opened its jaws. "I said get back!" yelled Tokashi, slicing out one of the monsters teeth. Orochi reeled back and stared down at them.
Tokashi knew he couldn't defeat Orochi on his own, but he couldn't allow it to continue attacking. Orochi's other heads turned to him. "Kisha, go now." he said. "No, not without you." she said, drawing her Wakizashi. Orochi stared down at them. Suddenly, an arrow flew through the air and struck Orochi in one of its eyes. The monster roared out in pain.
"Hey, It's distracted, I would suggest running now." called Yuji, readying a second arrow. "We can't just let it attack." said Tokashi. "If we try fight it, it will only be delayed for two seconds at most." Tokashi and Kisha turned and ran from Orochi. "Remember this day. Remember my face. Because when we meet again, it won't be the same." said Tokashi.
The three of them left Shinjitsu as Orochi continued attacking. Tokashi watched as Orochi wrecked the village and clenched his fists. It wasn't vengeance that he felt, more like an urge or an instinct to fight Orochi instead of retreat.
With the village completely destroyed, Orochi turned back to the forest and disappeared.
Tokashi paced up and down the path. "Tokashi, what are you doing?" asked Kisha. "Sorry, it's just I've got this strange feeling, ever since Orochi attacked, my mind has been unsettled." he said. Yuji approached them. "Nobody is willing to take us in. I asked around everywhere." he said. The village of Torota was already overcrowded with refugees from Shinjitsu.
"That monster is going to pay." said Tokashi, hitting the wall of a house and cracking it. "Tokashi, you and I were taught that revenge is never an option." said Yuji. "I don't want revenge. There is some kind of urge, an instinct to fight it." he said.
A group of people walked into the village. "One of them is here, I can smell it." said the group leader, Shogan Hantā. He suddenly stopped in his tracks. "It can't be." he whispered. "Is something wrong, sir?" asked a woman, Yuki Tadashi. "We should split up, this one can take on a human form, and with all these people here, it would blend in perfectly. Kantō, get to higher ground. Terasawa, Shindo, start searching from the East. Yuki, you and I will take the West." he said.
Shogan and Yuki continued towards the West of Torota. "It wasn't the Yokai that distracted you was it. Knowing your skills, we didn't need to split up." said Yuki. "This Yokai is more powerful than others. At the moment it is cloaking its sent. There's something else, I sensed the presence of something else. Something similar to me but not as pure." he said. He stopped again. "Get down!" he yelled, drawing one of his Katana. There was a loud roar and an Oni charged at them.
