"Bye mom."

I ran out of my room. I am running late for the first day of my highschool.

"Eat before you go.."

"Later dad...I'm running late.."

"Okay then at least take this sandwich..."

I looked back at him, grabbed the sandwich, hugged him and ran out of my house.

It's been a while since I ran this much. Normally I am not late for my school but yesterday I had a movie night with my sister to celebrate my first day of highschool the next day which I am so much regreting now.

" Waaiiit..."

Just made it in the nick of time as I hopped on to the bus. Now that I am looking at the time more calmly, the more calmness is leaving me. The traffic won't let us pass. I was now wishing if I could've just ran. Yes...wishing cause that won't be possible since The school is a little bit too far from my home.

Then suddenly I looked outside and saw a student wearing the same uniform leaving a car. He started running towards the way to school. For just a moment I thought our eyes met..

"He isn't thinking the same as me is he?..."

Suddenly he came back, came inside the bus, grabbed my hand. I was startled.

"We will be late if we don't run you know? Let's go."

And I don't know what came over me I got off the bus and started running with him.

He left the road and entered a small street.

"But the school is that way..."

"Shortcut, idiot." He laughed as he ran.

I was getting tired.

"You can't stop now or we will both be late"

"Whose fault do you think would it be?"

"Yours of course. We are going through shortcut even."

The nerve...he drags me with him, makes me run then gets bossy. I'm so gonna punch him after we get there. But right now I gotta concentrate on running.

After running for almost 15 minutes we got to school. Miraculously we weren't late.

"Hey..isn't it the back gate? We aren't late so why are we taking this one."

"Just keep it a secret and everything will be alright."

I couldn't understand what he was talking about but assumed it was about the gate.

"All right then. Which class do you go to?"

He looked at me. Paused for a while and smirked.

"Well I guess you are new here today. Starting highschool?"

" Yeah, but you didn't.."

"Okay then, see you around at class. Bye byee.."

And there he goes, doing whatever he wants.

I started walking toward the front of the school. I went to the locker changed shoes and started to look for my classroom. It was 1-c. After searching for a while I got there and found an empty seat behind, close to the window.

"Hi."

I looked at the direction the greeting came from. A girl with a ponytail and glasses was looking at me wirh a smile. I repeated the gesture.

"Hello. Nice to meet you."

"Yeah. same here. You are not from this school are you?"

"No. It's my first day here."

"Thought so..Ueda, Ueda Mayu. Call me Mayu, you?"

"Hosokawa Arana. Arana is fine."

I didn't think I'd be making a friend this soon. Maybe my school life here won't be so bad after all. But I was still unaware of what was to come next.

Arana

"Okay. So Aracchi, what about the sandwich in your hand..It looks divastated."

I totally couldn't eat on my way and half of the things had fallen out of it making it something like a smashed sandwich.

I pushed it inside my mouth and looked at Mayu-chan. She was looking at me wide-eyed.

"...really?" she asked with a awkward smile.

"Can't waste it. My father woke up early to make it."

" Ah. I see." She laughed out. "You are great, how about becoming friends."

"Yosh..deal."

" Oh by the way. Homeroom will be starting soon. I don't know how you will like this school but the homeroom would be fun. I swear." She said with much excitement.

"Really? The teacher is great isn't it?"

"He teaches english. He is perfect."

"You like him?"

"Everyone LOVES him. Just see and then you will realise."

Just as we were talking, the boy from the morning entered. He looked at the class, looked at me from the door and smiled.

" Okay then everyone. Let's sit down shall we?"

Huh? what is he doing in the teacher's desk and everyone is sitting down without a word. Is he the class representative?

"Hey Ren-chan what's with the dress. You look like a student here. Are you into cosplay now?"

Huh..?

"Well..It's a new year and there are new students.." He looked at me and smiled, "So thought why not do something so that I don't scare you off like certain someone.."

Just as he said this the P. Ed. teacher's scream could be heard from outside, scolding those who were late on their first day.

Everyone burst out laughing. I was the only one dumbfound and beyond embarassed. I even thought of saving him a seat if we were of same class. And then suddenly I remembered the words...

"Just keep it a secret and everything will be alright."

"Ahh..." I stood up looking at him without realising. So this was what he told me about. Not to let anyone know we came to school together and running at that.

"Aracchi...anything wrong?"

I looked at Mayu. She and the whole class were looking in my direction.

Then my eyes shifted towards "Ren-chan". Who was standing there with a mischievous smile.

"Anything wrong? ARACCHI?" He smirked asking me.

I don't know why suddenly a wave of anger rusher throughout my body. I sat down without answering him.

Everyone was surely thinking weird things about me, after all they were all so shocked after I stood up.

"Ren-chan" Then started taking attendance. After that he dived right into lesson. It was quite normal and he was a good teacher. Other than occational jokes and laughters everthing was study related.

The class came to an end and he was to leave the room when everyone flocked around him asking various questions.

"He is really famous...huh?" I asked Mayu out of curiosity.

"Yeah. He is only 26 years old after all and far from being strict so everyone literally loves him."

"I see..." I said with a little uncertainity, cause I believe no one can be so open and have no bad blood in them. Just then...

"Alana Hosokawa. Is your first day interesting?"

Out of habit I answered him "Great sir..."

and then I felt the whole class look at me. It took me a while to understand the stares this time.

And then I realized...

We were speaking in english.

The whole class was looking at me. I was not embarassed this time, but more of a awkwardness crept through my face.

It's not at all common to talk in english, in class atleast. I have been living in USA for 5 years before I came here. My father is a businessman. I won't say we are loaded but we have enough to call myself a rich girl. But you don't necessarily talk about it...at least I don't think so.

I had never been a social butterfly, but I'm not introverted either. I like some peace and quite. Occational hustle and bustle in my life, I can handle them quite well. But too much attention is not what I look for.

And that is what I have been getting since earlier. The students were all looking at me like I just spoke some alien language when they've been learning this since childhood. Well I can understand the lack of knowledge about accent and all, but still...It's only english.

Ren sensei was looking at me, knowing the obvious and smirking.

Why is he like this?

He sure as hell is nice to others. But when I am involved he is always making me embarassed and awkward before everyone.

"Arana-chan, your english. It's foreign..." Mayu was looking at me wide eyed once again.

Great...now I've been demoted to Arana-chan from Aracchi.

"No..actually I used to live abroad. That's why...don't worry. I speak japanese just fine...so don't feel awkward. 'kay?"

"Oh..sure. But wow. I didn't know you lived abroad. I was startled. Actually..."

Mayu started talking about how she got goosebumps and all. But the only thing I could hear was the "Good luck on making friends" shout from "Ren-chan" while going outside the door not looking back.

On lunch break Some girls came to talk with me. Mayu is a person with brains as well as with good social skills. She had friends who were interested in me after hearing my accent apparently. So they came and introduced themselves.

Among them Ayame-chan and Yui-chan were interested in learing english and we got excited over everything and nothing in particular. We exchanged our lines and phone numbers. I made more friends than what I had expected to.

The rest of the day was uneventful and I came home earlier since I had to pick up my sister from school. I did the rest of the housework, made dinner, went through revisions, texted some and went to bed early today.

I was thinking about how rollar coaster my whole day have been today. Mayu, Ayame, Yui and everyone have been so nice to me. Will I be able to make them happy like they did me.

Suddenly something came to my mind.

"Alana Hosokawa. Is your first day interesting?"

Alana Hosokawa...

The name only my family and friends from USA are supposed to know.

So how did he know that...
