His Love
Chapter 1
Sargun
Mumma, papa please let me go.
Sargun
It's a great opportunity for me and I have always wanted to go to the US.
Sargun
Now that my company is providing me with this great opportunity I really do not want to let this go.
Aman
Sargun, we understand. It's just that it's really sudden
Aman
Let us at least think about it.
Aman
Your father and I will think about it, then we'll let you know
Sargun
Then I'll just have to turn that 'no' into 'yes'
Sargun
*in a firm voice* I worked really hard for this, and I'm not just going to let this go.
Sargun
I don't want to go without your permission so that's why I hope your answer is yes
Aman
We'll think and let's end this here.
I've been arguing with them for about an hour now on this topic
I work for a law firm and after fighting tooth and nail for this I have finally gotten the opportunity to go to the US and work on behalf of the firm for 2 months.
It's like a dream come true.
The once in a lifetime opportunity
I'm at my prime in carrier and haven't been served this opportunity on a silver player so that's why I have no intentions of backing down. I'm going to fight them if I have to. However, what I'm not going to do is back down
It's been an hour since I told them and all the talk or rather the arguments that I've had is with mumma because as usual papa doesn't say anything
He just sits there and watches and occasionally just agrees with mumma.
They have to understand that this is important for me.
Breaking my thoughts mumma calls.
Aman
C'mon. Time for dinner
Aman
Sargun, serve the dinner
Sargun
Hnji mumma.
(Okay mumma)
Sighing, I go to the kitchen to serve the dinner.
well I guess the conversation ends here.
And now this is what's going to happen
Both of them will have a hush hush conversation with each other and whatever they decide by the end of it.
I will be served with the news tomorrow.
Fine then I'll just give it a rest for today and then tomorrow we'll see what they have to say.
Though I know how everything is going to turn out
The dinner goes silently.
with mumma, papa and my brother focused on the movie on the TV
And me getting lost in my thoughts
Author
This is a new story and I have some idea where this will go, but I haven't fully prepared some of the plot,, but that will change as we go.
Author
Also, this story is just a fragment of my imagination, so there might be some loopholes I hope you just turn a blind eye to those
Author
I hope you enjoy this
This is a new experience for me two 😉
Chapter 2
Sargun
(I have taken a three day off from work so that I can visit my parents in amritsar and also convince them. Today is the last day and then I'll have to go back. I just hope they say yes)
The whole day I have been brainstorming ideas on what to say to finally convince them because no matter how good a lawyer I am I just can't win an argument with them.
The stage is set. Everyone is in the room now let's begin with the trial.
Where the judges are my parents, the audience being my brother, victim and lawyer being me.
Sargun
What did you decide???
(I'm nervous. It feels like I'm six years old, asking for a toy that I know I won't get)
(I have no clue why they are so against me going to the US. They aren't even against it. It's just they are indecisive. Their excuse being my security and different place, me being alone... Struggling. What they fail to understand is that I have been struggling all along. They live in Amritsar, I live in Chandigarh.)
This too is going to be the same with 13,568 km separating us instead of 226.6 km.
Okay. …
I know that's a lot of difference but still it's just 2 months
They will pass in the blink of an eye
Aman
Sargun, we know it's important for you, but it's difficult for us too
Aman
It's not about going to a different city or state. It's about a different continent altogether.
Aman
You'll be alone there, no one to take care of you.
Sargun
I can take care of myself. I do that all the time in Chandigarh
Aman
Here, we know that we are just 4-hour drive away from you but if God forbid something happens there, we won't be able to be there for you.
Inder
What your mother says is right. We know we can be there for you here but once you are in a different continent there's not much we can do.
Sargun
I understand your concern but if we get caught up in all of this. It's going to hinder my success.
Sargun
And I don't want that.
Sargun
We had this same conversation when we were discussing me moving to Chandigarh for University. And I have managed to take care of myself all these years.
Sargun
It's been a decade since then.
Aman
Where are you going to live?
Sargun
The company will provide for residence, they will also pay for it.
Sargun
So that won't be an issue
Sargun
Where I live, where I work, for how long all of that will be taken care of by my firm.
Inder
For how long will you be gone?
Inder
Is that a definite period?
Aman
What work is it exactly?
Sargun
I haven't been given proper details yet because the US company that hired us have asked for full confidentiality. Once I sign the contract then I'll be given proper details about my work there
Sargun
as far as I know it has something to do with fraud. The company that hired us just needs someone who knows about Indian laws to assist them.
Sargun
It'll just be a desk job.
Sargun
I will wake up, go to work, enjoy lunch with American colleagues, work, go back home, enjoy my evening, sleep and repeat. That's going to be my routine.
Aman
This is all so sudden
Sargun
Mumma I am about to turn 28 in few months. I'm mature enough to take care of myself.
Aman
When will you be leaving??
Sargun
Is that a yes????
*expectant eyes 🥺*
Aman
Not really but If we give our permission when will you be leaving???
Aman
We are trusting you. So don't let us down.
Sargun
(I know what that implies. "Don't do something stupid and let us down. Go there, work and come back." That's what always expected of me. Be the good obedient daughter.)
This is also one of the reasons why I want to go to the US. It's going to be my one chance to do whatever I want to do without anyone expecting anything from me.
I'll be a total stranger to everyone there and everyone will be strangers to me. So there will be no expectations. I'll go there, have my much-needed break, enjoy it to the fullest, be whoever I want to me and then..... Return.
But those 2 months I'm going to make them the best 2 months of the life.
Because somehow it feels like it'll be the last time I will be traveling alone.
Sargun
Now that's a yes right????
Sargun
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
I'm so happy finally finally
after debating it in my mind for 2 weeks I've finally gotten what I wanted.
*ahhhhh* I'm literally screaming internally.
I just want to thrash and scream I'm so happy
Mumma and Papa are smiling
Meanwhile my brother has enjoyed the show and is now about to leave the room
Sargun
You're not going to say anything
Pranvat
I have nothing to say.
Sargun
At least you could've taken my side
Pranvat
Me taking your side wouldn't have changed anything
It's always like this with us whenever we are having serious family conversations. If it's about me then he remains silent. When it's about him, I'm the silent one. Occasionally speaking if need be.
Along the years we haven't been able to develop the sibling relations we see in movies. I don't why that is.
Maybe because I moved out for University, and he was at home. This build a gap between us. I not that we dislike each other or anything it's just that we aren't all that involved each other's life. I wish we were closer.
I wish I was a better sister and he, a better brother
Now let's hope for the best.
Chapter 3
It's a day after my return to Chandigarh i.e. The day I inform my boss about my decision.
The moment I have been waiting for.
Karina
Good morning Sargun
Sargun
I've decided. I am accepting your offer.
*professional tone*
Karina
You have earned your spot
Sargun
(I am super excited to go but I gotta keep my professional mask on. There will be plenty of time to be excited )
Sargun
I'm really grateful for this opportunity and that you thought I was worthy enough for this.
Karina
Oh you don't have to be so formal. Even though I did bring this to the attention of everyone it was you who won against everyone in the office and ceased this for yourself.
Karina
Also I expect you to do your best and provide everyone there with the best this firm has to offer. I hope you won't t let me down.
Sargun
Rest assured ma'am.
I will give my best.
Karina
Don't forget to enjoy. These opportunities are hard to come by.
Smiling professionally and giving me a few tips she politely tells me to go back to my work.
Also, I'll be signing and do other formalities soon.
And I'll be leaving in 3 weeks
I chose this for myself so let's give it our best
My parents are here to see me off.
I hug everyone and say my goodbyes.
Sargun
Bye mumma (I hug her and I can see tears in her eyes. uff this emotional mother of mine. Though I secretly appreciate it. )
I hug him and kiss him on the cheek
I look at my brother and well there's awkwardness between us.
Aman
c'mon hug and kiss each other goodbye
We both look at each other
I cringe and he rolls his eyes.
We both aren't good at hugs
I make a gagging face and pretend to be disgusted.
In a stern voice mumma once again compels us to hug and well
And so after long long goodbyes. I'm finally off to my journey.
After traveling for a day I'm finally here.
The flight lands in New York.
I like traveling, I really do but it can be really exhausting.
I'm tired and now just want to go to the hotel and rest.
They said that someone will be here at the airport to recieve me, now just have to look for them.
There found them. Someone holding a placard with my name on it.
I extend my hand and the other person just as politely shakes my hand.
Driver
I am your driver and I will dropping you of to your hotel. Please let me carry the luggage.
With perfect professionalism the driver takes charge of my luggage and before I'm seated in the car. I take a minute to take my surroundings in. Just soak everything up.
New york wasn't my top choice for the places I wanted to visit in US but what can I really do.
Might as well enjoy what I'm given and let's not push my luck.
I'm driven to the hotel aka my temporary home for a while.
As soon as I get off the car and see the building in front of..... Goodness. I'm speechless
It says "come in and spend your money like water. I'll soak it all up"
Thank God I don't have to pay.
The hotel is lit up and shines in the early evening darkness.
There are two building on each other of a central building. All in cream shade.
The name shrines brightly on the central building. The Spades.
Yup that's the name of the company that hired our firm.
Apparently they own multiple businesses, hotel being one them.
The driver escorts me in and assures me that my luggage will be taken directly to my room.
I talk to the receptionist and then I'm taken to my room.
Sure enough the room is also luxurious.
I'm definitely impressed.
As soon as I'm done washing up. I mail the the company about my arrival though I know they already know it.
Formalities. Formalities.
I receive an e-mail that says I'll be escorted to the Spades company tomorrow and will be introduced to everyone.
The introductions are always awkward. 😬
Smile and pretend as if you are the sweetest person on the planet and well it's awkward.
Because you have no idea what the other person is actually like.
Let's think about it tomorrow.
I'm tired and my brain isn't working.
I'll just take a nap, have dinner and then sleep.
I nap turns into a full night's sleep and I end up waking up at 5 in the morning.
I'm not late, thankfully, as I'm to be at the company at 8.
Plenty of time to get ready and have breakfast
it's 7 am and I'm ready to go.
I meet the driver from the day before in the hotel lobby, and he takes me directly to my destination without saying much.
When I tired to break the silence all I got was yes and no responses, nothing else.
Guess I'll just have to wait see what's in store for me here
We arrive at the company after a 20 minute ride.
all the buildings around are huge and there's a lot of people
In fact this place is crowded.
I don't like crowds and noisy places.
The inside of the building is surprisingly quiet. Everyone is talking, but there's no chaos.
Good
I'm taken directly to the office where I'll be introduced to my temporary boss.
With an emphasis on the word temporary.
I'm about to head in the direction of the office, I'm met with the secretary. Who asked me to wait outside.
She returns in seconds and then I'm going in.
The introductions might me awkward but I'm not nervous.
Be polite, professional and you are good to go.
I'm going to lawyer up now.
I enter the office, and I'm met with a man.
The man screams confidence. I like confident people because of course you can't run multi-billion dollar business if you doubt yourself every step of the way.
Dante
Hello, Sargun
Nice to finally meet you
Dante
No need to call me sir.
just call me Dante
The man didn't just have the aura of someone confident but also he was polite enough. I dare say soft even.
Though most of the times that is just an illusion that people create to appear harmless.
Dante
I guess we are done with introductions then.
Dante
I'm guessing you know the term of the contract and you are thorough with what were you given by your firm?
Dante
You read it carefully?
Sargun
I did, even the fine print.
*I say with a smile which was genuine enough*
Dante
Yeah, people do usually forget to read that. You really did a thorough reading then.
Dante
Welcome to the The Spade co. Sargun.
Dante
I hope you enjoy working here.
Sargun
I hope so too.
Even though it's a short time still, I will give my best.
Dante
My secretary will take you to your office and you can start working right away.
I'm not much into small talk and from the short conversation I've had with Dante neither is he.
I believe I won't be seeing him much because he is the CEO.
One think that I found odd is that why I was even greeted by the CEO.
Like c'mon, I'm not important enough to be greeted by the CEO.
It's not like I'm a foreign delegate here to talk about the relations The Spade co. will have with India or something
Dante's secretary comes around and shows me my office which is just a cubicle in a huge working area.
Look as I said not important
Although the cubicle isn't small it's big enough for me.
