The Solitary Case Files_001

Chapter One

“Let’s break up,” Felicia said as she twirled her curly and soft brown hair as she looked up to the sky which lit her hazel-colored eyes up.

“Wow, I guess the other guys never lied when they said that you act like a cow.” the leech said as he smirked.

This just infuriated her more, stirring up a hurricane within her.

“Says the person who eats like a snob and acts like an ignorant ***,” she said as she crossed her legs with her arms folded and her posture straight.

This was natural for her to have a demanding aura since she is the youngest detective in town who manipulated her suspects easily to get what she wanted from them. She was always the one to dump her exes.

When she was younger she was able to read body language and manipulation. She learned this while she was with her late stepfather since he was such a big influence on her.

She then woke up from her seat until she felt a tug on her hand. In anger, she pulled hard and strong, twisting the other hand that was tugging her to see her ex. She then punched his face so hard that anyone could see it red and throbbing. He went to grab her once more until a hot guy waltzed into the room and arm and broke it.

“Why … why is there so much chaos here?”Marcus said as he started yawning with his coat draped over his shoulders.

She could make out that he was rich, from the watch that shone a million dollars in her face to the black coal polished shoes that he wore. This just irritated her more but she turned her anger into false tears as she grabbed his coat and started crying inside it.

There was an instant click of telepathy communication going on between the two of them. Marcus could see that she felt uncomfortable with a crowd staring at her, so he complied. He focused the tension in the air more on her ex-boyfriend as she managed to find a moment in time to escape from the chaotic madhouse.

This cafe was marked as her own, this was because whenever she needed to dump someone- she would break up with them in the cafe. Felicia finally broke her house of cards when he entered her life.

THREE DAYS LATER

“Morning detective, how was your leave ?”Frank asked as he kept up to her paste and handed her coffee to her.

Frank Moriarty is one of Felicia’s most trusted friends, they have known each other for years. He is always the playful and innocent one in the Department, but when it comes to his work-he tends to get too fierce.

“Boring, as usual, anyways-what do we have here Moriarty?”

“We have an ear that was cut, it’s the same case like before-do you really think you can handle this? Just sit-”

“No. I’m doing this game that uncle couldn’t complete, no matter what the cost is...We have to stop this psycho fast! ”

Just then, Moriarty’s cell phone started ringing,” Detective Moriarty speaking…….. Yes…. okay, we’re on our way”

“What is it?”, Felicia asked as she ran towards him

“We have ourselves a witness,” Moriarty said as he smirked.

“This better be good!”

AT THE POLICE STATION

“Who is the witness?!”Felicia shouted as she took off the jacket that reminded her that she must uphold, remembering what she had to fight for.

“Hey-You good?”, Moriarty asked as she could see the concerned expression on his face.

“Yeah, let’s dig in”

Moriarty was the first one to enter the interrogation room. Felicia passed his arm holding the door to take a look at the witness, in shock-she was left speechless to see that it was the same man from the cafe as the flashbacks of the incident happened.

This time he looked different to her, as if he was expecting her to walk past those doors. She could easily tell -because she is a criminal profiler, but so many questions ran to her head.

 {Why does it seem like the tables have turned today for the first time?! I can feel his eyes studying me from head to toe-like as if he was expecting me to walk through those doors?! I need to cover this up quickly before he sees I’m vulnerable!}

We went to sit down, only to see an arrogant smirk on his face. I can’t get intimidated -not now! So after a while, I slowly took an elastic band from my jeans pocket and placed it on my wrist slowly and quietly.

Moriarty could sense the tension on my face, so he decided to take the lead in answering questions. The only problem was that idiot never budged! Instead, he just looked at me like ‘Shouldn’t you be taking the lead on answering questions?’

It felt like he planned everything out in his mind and if his plans did not go as he wanted them- I’m dead meat for sure!

SIGH-It shouldn’t hurt to take the lead on this case, right?

I decided to leave my seat to sit on the desk closer to him and started asking questions.

“What happened at the crime scene?”, I asked as I leaned closer.

“Well, that depends-how is your boyfriend holding up? I feel so sorry for him, especially when he just lost someone so beautiful and unique...too bad he couldn’t see it as I do.”, he said with a wide grin on his face.

“ ‘I’M SURE YOU DIDN’T MEAN FOR THAT TO SOUND SO ARROGANT, RIGHT?”, as I asked. I was well known for the best comebacks in my department.

I could see how shocked he was due to this statement, I could easily see it as his lower jaw dropped half a centimeter down, his arms that were once crossed became looser and last but not least - the bottom part of his eyelids, opposite his tear duct cringed up.

“Now-back to my question… What happened at the crime scene”, I then checked his profile, to see that now-I have let my guard down.

HE IS MARCUS KIER?! The rich millionaire who studied abroad?!Welp… another reason to lose my job, right? But I couldn’t give a damn about who he is.

I gathered my thoughts back together within a split second as he started to explain his story.

“Well, I don’t know what murder you guys are actually talking about”

This just frustrated me more!!! He just wasted our precious time when we could have been investigating!!!

Chapter Two

“Then why did you ask for us specifically?”, I said as I frowned at his arrogance.“Oh, I didn’t ask for you guys -I asked for you. Umm by the way, can you please tell your friend that he needs to get lost and it goes the same for the other guys behind the screen hiding like little high school gossipers. ”

I signaled my partner with a single light nod that only he could see-or that’s what I thought.

“Good, now how about you help me and I will help you?”

“And how are you planning to help me?”

“I got a lead detective. And I think that you would be the one that will help me. What do you think?”

The last thing I could do -is to lose this case especially after what happened six years ago-I will never forgive myself as long as that psycho is alive and breathing. I took the offer even if I have to get my hands dirty.

“Fine, let’s do this.”

“I will tell you the time and place detective, but I can do it here. Just follow my instructions,” he said as he started getting closer to her.

He suddenly bent his head down and kissed her on the cheek.

All I could feel was my cheeks burning up, he used those rich soft lips to kiss a mediocre lady’s cheek like that, I didn’t know what to think when he did this all of a sudden, but then my chest felt tight as I thought about how many other women he kissed-especially if he did more than a kiss on a cheek, but then I could feel him putting a piece of paper in the back of my shirt.

That moment in time, I felt like my whole life was exposed, as I could feel like studying me and reading me like an open book. I felt bare and I also trusted him. I don’t think I have ever put my life open like that.

I soon went to the ladies as I started to open up my shirt, I could feel a sticky note peeling slowly from my exposed back. I started to sigh as I put my work shirt back on with one hand and picked up the note with the other to see an address. I walked out, past the door that always had a creaking noise whenever you open or close it.

My body jerked back in shock and a split second, I put the note under my bra strap and acted like I was adjusting it when I saw Moriarty, just … standing. Like as if he was waiting for an explanation of what happened but all I could do was mouth out the words until I felt my breath catching back to me.

“What’s wrong Moriarty?”I asked as I started to walk to my desk

“Not much, I just wanted to ask what he told you back there?”

All I could do was force the words out of my mouth and lie to him,” The idiot just tried to blackmail me using my private life”, I said as I tried to sound as normal as possible.

All I could do is question myself, why do I suddenly feel that everyone is after Kier?

Chapter Three

My body jerked back in shock and split second, I put the note under my bra strap and acted like I was adjusting it when I saw Moriarty, just … standing. Like as if he was waiting for an explanation of what happened but all I could do was mouth out the words until I felt my breath catching back to me.

“What’s wrong Moriarty?”I asked as I started to walk to my desk

“Not much, I just wanted to ask what he told you back there?”All I could do was force the words out of my mouth and lie to him,” The idiot just tried to blackmail me using my private life”, I said as I tried to sound as normal as possible.

All I could do is question myself, why do I suddenly feel that everyone is after Kier? I know that he’s an ***, but I don't feel like it. From the time I came out of the interrogation room, all I could feel was his eyes watching me from everywhere.

Later on, I finally caught my partner, Moriarty following me as I left. {He must have seen that sticky note before...}

I tried to lose him without drawing attention or raising his suspicions, as I took a turn into a dark narrow alley, I felt a tug on my hand which pulled me with my mouth muffled. Normally my reflex reactions would have possessed me but somehow I was comforted by the scent that was surrounding me and holding me close.

It was the heavy smell of raw cinnamon with vanilla -it was the only and best thing that I could breathe in. I woke up out of my fantasy to hear the voice of Kier.

“Are you done with sniffing me already?”, he told me in his low, deep hoarse voice.

“Well, I’m sorry for that - I am just surprised that you smell so different from your attitude and arrogance...” I said as I could feel a small smirk playing on my lips as I tried to hide it.

I could sense a comeback from him as he had a menacing look upon his face.

{Shit...did I take the joke too far? Why is he not saying anything?}All these thoughts started running through my head as I was worried in case I upset him even though I am not the type to worry about what others think. This might sound cold as a detective but I needed to grow some tough skin.

Kier then slammed his huge hand against the wall that created an earthquake in my heart and trapping me from escaping, he soon started to close the distance between us as he says,” You’re welcome to sniff me anytime ….as long as you will be able to pay for the consequences” he whispered in my ear.

I soon started to give him a death stare signal, which meant ‘you better back the hell up before I slap the living daylights out of you so hard that you won’t be able to wake up the next morning.’

I could see that he felt threatened by this look as he started to put his hand down.

“SO -how do you do it? Like manipulating others into giving them what you want?” I said as I started to fix my disheveled clothes from running.

“If you think I meant to manipulate you...that was never my intention and I truly apologize for starting off on the wrong note with you-it’s just that you  are the only good detective that is still caring.”He says as he ushers me the way to the car with his head down.

No matter how many times I look at him-I still can’t tell what he’s thinking, but whenever our eyes meet-I feel like I am an open book, all my secrets are exposed and he has the upper hand on me for that…

He takes me to his house which is ten stories tall.

I should have known, rich shitheads I said as I muttered under my breath.

“Now, Mr. Kier, what do I need-” Before he could even finish my sentence, he cuts me off with a charming smile that breaks into my heart.

“You can call me Marcus,” He says as he goes into one of the rooms.”Care to follow me? We can talk for so long.”

“Sure, no problem” I answered as I started to follow him.

“What’s going on Marcus?”I ask as I could see the distant look on his face.

Is this how he is?

I started to question myself until he broke the silence.

“I lied to you before in the interrogation room-In fact I just lured you here because ...” His voice started to trail off as he came closer to me closing up the distance between us, as he reached behind me and locked his room door-wait…

THIS IS HIS ROOM?!?!?!

He has me wrapped around his pinkie finger just like how he did in the Police Station. He leans in to whisper in my ear…

“The lady who was killed...She worked under me, I hired her as an accountant but she found something and reported it to my competent so I fired her… I didn’t know this was going to happen .”

I stretched out my palms to pull his face closer and talk in a quiet voice.”You...don’t blame yourself… you didn’t kill her” I said in a low, comforting voice.

He then gently holds my hand in his as he slowly puts his head up. I soon realized… WE ARE TOO DAMN CLOSE TO EACH OTHER.

As alarms started to go off in my head. I have never been this close to anyone like this before.
