"Why did you let her die, father?" He whispers under his breath as tears fell from his lifeless eyes.
In an area where dead bodies are piled up of one another, it's eerily silent hence his voice didn't come out as a whisper. But standing on the grounds of a battlefield, there should be sounds, isn't that right?
However, this battle ended abruptly with her body falling from the sky which rejected her. When soldiers heard their generals surrender, most have different reactions.
A thousand or so lost the strength in their knees and knelt on the ground. Some looked like roaring carnivores but expressed emotions that were bottled up. Then those same ones carried their injured comrades to a medic.
They even questioned why this war even happened: "Was this all children's play?" spoken in a dispirited tone.
...
This figure he identified as his father, lowered then shook his head. Seeing how she fell and wasn't able to catch her lifeless body; ached his heart.
"I believe heaven declined her request and fully banished her corrupt body," he explained in a monotone.
The young man wearing armor whose design looks similar to a knight's and his sword pierced onto the soil and blood mixed ground. He looked around and saw a wasteland and a stack of cold bodies.
With his remaining strength, he rose from his feet and grabbed his father's black coat. His nose is wrinkled, gritted teeth displayed.
Strengthening his grip on the wrinkled coat as he bit his bottom lip. "You were the cause of all mother's suffering yet you never felt an ounce of guilt.."
"What did she do to deserve pain?" he inhaled, "Why do all bear hate towards her? Why, why?!"
One of his hands formed into a fist. He never felt overwhelmed with such strong emotion from his son but no matter the circumstance...
How could he dare to say the words of his heart? The misunderstanding is caused by lacking communication. Before he realized that his brother is born to rule, he came across a saying, 'I have learned that people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.'
"Raise your chin, @#&%! and remember," he took a pause, "remember to never forgive me."
— PROLOGUE ENDS
A pair of two goddesses sat opposite sides of a chessboard with serious expressions. The current progress of the game? White pawns seem to be at a better winning rate than black pawns.
Well with no time to waste, on the take of her turn, she sneaked a smirk while holding her queen pawn. A planned move from square to square, she won the match adding a new win to her record.
"Fifty-one thousand three hundred forty-two wins!"
"As expected of the Celestial Saint!"
With this joyful audience of gods with nothing to do and bored gods who lived enough to meet the Messiah. Sounds of clapping and cheering brought positive vibes treating both the women like no one lost and no one won.
The defeated beauty had no hints of dejection but instead, she smiled as the game ended with the win of her opponent. This match was really tense and made the heart beat faster because of how thrilling it was; though this gave enlightenment to Isabella.
Irene sighed as the pent-up exhaustion began taking action after using every bit of her brain. She looked at her cousin who noticed her gaze and formed her mouth into a smile.
Though victory is hers, she recognizes Isabella as a frightening opponent in not only appearance but also in chess. Irene can be known to have a fair win against multiple gods in every expertise she has.
Isabella could've broken her winning streak and give an impact on her reputation but it seems that she has 'plot armor' which means that either the author or plot is protecting the main character.
But please, this young goddess does not have plot armor.... no spoilers though!
Counting all of the exceptional achievements that allowed her to be referred to as the generation's genius with immeasurable potential.
Since the crowd began to disperse, Irene and Isabella can finally have a moment of privacy. With that reassurance of security, Irene started a casual conversation with her older cousin.
"Ella, don't you know how close you were to defeating me?" she said with a cheeky sort of tone.
Isabella scratches her cheek while having a somewhat awkward smile, "Really? I didn't know.."
Suddenly she subconsciously gulped as she felt Irene's interrogative gaze that tries to pierce through her incredible defense.
[Ding: Trivia Time! Disregarding the few millennia between their ages, Irene has a higher position since she belongs to the direct ruling lineage. However, for Isabella she is from one of many branches in the complicated family tree of gods.]
Continuing to deny her statement, their conversation lasted for a long time that from a lively afternoon where the sun is still seen. To now where the moon has already exchanged shifts.
In the next morning, news of the five-decade-long chess match ended with a fair victory of Irene; had spread like wildfire.
...
Inside one of three large structures, it stands as a venue for court meetings, assemblies, large tea parties, and this list goes on. A daily court meeting was held at crack of dawn and since noon is slowly approaching, the serious discussion then turned into a mix of casual and formal conversation with the current monarch: Helios, Heavenly Ruler.
"Let me overlook that everyone knows who won F.D.M. or what did they named that five-decade-long match of chess."
He stood from the seat of his throne with his one palm grips the other hand behind his back, "Though it seems a century was a wrong calculation."
A man from an arranged group of immortals stepped forwards then he bowed his head and cautiously met Helios' eye:
"Isabella and the Celestial Saint are skilled in their aptitudes especially a matter where intelligence and strategies are used," he sneaked a small smile, "She inherits her wisdom and intellect from her father."
"You never fail to amuse me, cousin" he laughed.
Then Helios seemed to make the gesture of stroking his chin while making a decision and added, "My daughter is an infamous troublemaker and has broken most of the basic rules. Sigh, chaotic old days."
...
At the private library of the Celestial Deities; certain shelves of this library contain books that the Celestial Goddess has written or owns and probably a whole section contains books from the God of Supremacy's travels in other realms.
In terms of where it is, no one knows where the library itself is. Speculations say, it's either inside a spatial dimension or similar to a rainbow's end, although you see it when you come closer it moves to another place.
For the security of this magical place, even if it would either be in another dimension or a mirage, the ruling Celestial Deities cast Primeval-grade sealing spells. The location and security of this otherworldly library are never known until a troublemaker sneaked her way into the library and found books that easily tainted her purity.
If it weren't for how her behavior and way of speaking drastically changed, the fact that she went to the library would have remained hidden.
Afterward, both the Celestial Goddess and Heavenly Ruler relocated the library into a dimensional space and re-cast the entire place with Celestial-grade sealing spells. It rather looks like the library wasn't in a spatial dimension but located in certain coordinates.
This incident led a circle of entities to know that there are erotic books that created infamous rumors that the two ruling deities are a pair of horny individuals or perverts. Of course, their reputation received an impact but those rumors died in a few months.
...
"Right, Your Majesty." they all bowed in perfect sync.
As no one had any other interesting topic to share, an awkward silence would surely come into the scene. However, this got interrupted when a soldier wearing a knight helmet embellished with red feathers and golden armor with a sun emblem on the chestplate center, appeared rushing inside.
The gods were slightly offended by his abrupt entrance but they ignored it as the Celestial Knight brought an injured messenger from the border.
"Speak," he said with an authoritative tone, "What had happened at the borders?"
The messenger slid off his torn white hood and revealed his face with a wound on his nose and dirt on his cheeks, "An ambush. The general relocated the army of celestial knights and winged-knights then we were ambushed by the Devil's army."
Helios guarded his mouth, "I see."
He slammed his clenched fists on the armrest of the throne. His brows were furrowed and his golden irises became a small circle as he widened his eyes as if in shock.
"So what if you were ambushed." Helios looked straight towards his eyes, "Losing an incompetent general together with his arrogant army is a speck of cosmic dust."
"Yo-Yo-Your Majesty—"
"Shut it you stuttering fool!" he sneered.
Disappointment fairly oppresses anger caused by this messenger's stupidity. Helios finally is on the same page but, why is his subject asking him to avenge a stranger's death.
Helios showed a face of disappointment and disgust which displayed how distasteful he feels.
"Ah, Your Majesty." even with the tension, the celestial knight spoke up. He pointed at the messenger's hands which were occupied with a brown wooden box.
He sends a signal to the messenger then the poor fellow gave the box to the knight who gave it to Oliver. The high-elf in court attire stood by the side with his body facing horizontally forwards: this position allowed the Heavenly Ruler and everyone else to see the box.
Without further ado, Oliver unlocked the golden locket of the box and opened the wooden lid. Everyone gasped with widened eyes but Helios' reaction is more severe.
"And weren't you running your mouth giving hints that I should avenge for a humble reason?" His loud voice echoed throughout the room and gave everyone a quick flinch.
His golden eyes glowed dangerously as his palm spread opened with a magic circle targeted towards the messenger. In contrast to his magic circle, the fellow had a golden collar-like thing around his neck which became tighter and tighter.
"I.. please... hear me.... your majesty."
Helios clicked his tongue before canceling the spell and turning his body towards his throne, "Send this man to a cell. The court is dismissed!"
He clenched his hands into fists, 'What is this, Deimos? An underhanded taunt?'
— THREE DAYS PASSED
At a vast flower field in the Flower Realm. Irene appeared to be occupied in carefully picking flowers and tea leaves then placing her harvest into her basket.
She is accompanied by a green-haired woman who has tiny pixies with her, appearing as flying flickering lights in the air.
Feeling quite bored she decided to lighten the mood, "So you're here for a mortal-grade flower and not me?"
Irene choked on her saliva which caused her to cough at the end of her silly question. This beautiful woman beside her is the minor Goddess of Nature and Youth. An aspiring entity equal to her in terms of status.
"What can I do to please the great goddess?" she replied playfully.
In response, Clover did an infamous stance. She raised her chin with a smug smile stealing the attention, then placed her hands on her waist and lastly, took her right foot to step forward. Irene went along with her act and pretended as if Clover blinded her eyes with a bright light.
"Isn't that Nature's disciple and the Celestial Saint?"
"Are you sure— oh yeah."
Clover heard their conversation from a mile away while Irene sighed seeing her friend's expression. 'Those two little spirits broke the mood,' she thought to herself; teary-eyed.
Seeing her tiny droplet of sadness, "Care for some tea and biscuits?"
"Aye," she responded immediately.
Hearing Irene's immediate response, she opened her dimensional space with the assistance of her fairy friends.
Well, it's not like she wants them to assist her but the power she possesses is a handful so Gaia summoned the Fairy King to request a few pixies to slightly control Clover's overall prowess.
After storing the baskets filled with herbs and flowers in a different space. Irene followed Clover to her simple profound abode where they enjoyed their tea and conversation.
During noon, Irene read books at a public library. Beings who passed her table took a moment to display a gesture of respect then resumed their activity.
"..Scarlet Empire. A vast territory of mortals ruled by a man called Scarlett Emperor."
Irene continues to read the Record of Scarlett. Not knowing that she read something significant that can help her in the future. Two hours passed, she sighed and closed the record.
She did a gesture with her fingers and the book flew back to where it was placed. Without any further intentions to stay much longer, she left the library and everyone sighed in relief. They were completely uneasy that someone like Irene was present in a second-rate library.
A huge distance from the library, Irene came across a majestic fountain in the lower realm that was famous between fairies and other divine races. She planned to stay for a bit until she got reminded that she was invited to a gathering and someone was waiting for her.
"Hmm, mm? mmm!" Irene tried to remember an elven spell, "Ah!— Οη μοτηερ Γαια, Γθιδε τηισ ψηιλδ το τηε Ψελεστιαλ Παλαψε."
Her knowledge of magic and multiple languages is outstanding due to how she can form a new spell but Irene gets easily bored of doing the same thing. So she uses her knowledge in magic for her daily activities like how she uses a median-level elven spell to teleport.
However using an elven spell for something as trivial as that, may cause some people to cough blood from exaggeration.
Exactly a minute had passed, Irene arrived at the outer palace of the Celestial Goddess. Seeing her figure, every invited immortal bowed their heads, "Greetings, Celestial Saint."
Ignoring their gestures she went to the inner palace and found her mother seated with other guests. Those guests are superior deities who have the time to appear in the gathering, mentioning Isabella and Clover and inferior deities who desire to establish connections.
Faye, her servant, and Guardian of the Forbidden Tree; showed the way of a reserved room where her brother, the God of Archangels waited for her arrival.
"I thought you would exempt yourself from useless gatherings, Irene."
"Father personally told me to come, Mikael."
The only legitimate children of the Heavenly Ruler seem to have a complicated relationship but it can be excused since they haven't talked to or seen each other for several years.
An awkward silence came upon the room after Irene's reply. Slowly it gave discomfort to four of them.
"Faye."
As Faye heard Irene, she leaned towards her. She was shocked by her request and shook her head. She went to poker face and her fingers were very restless.
An hour in the gathering, Irene managed to escape to the garden with an excuse.
She walked towards the marble fountain at a normal pace and saw a figure seemingly waiting for someone. From a neutral expression to a smiling face like a girl reunited with her lover. Irene rushed to him while he spreads his arms when he saw her.
"You're late."
In a moment of silence, Irene wrapped her arms around his masculine body as his unique scent linger on the tip of her nose. He, on the other hand, was resting his hand on her head. Though it sounds like a heartwarming reunion, his eyes were gleaming guilt but Irene never sees it.
Love not only makes someone a fool but blind. Time seemed to stop and with silence, the chirps from birds, sounds from the water and their breathing could be heard.
"I missed you, Drake."
— MEANWHILE
Michael's close friend and comrade-in-arm, approached him regarding their investigation to the suspicious death of a general. Their conversation had started with a few exchange of words until Michael deemed the topic confidential.
Not much to be noted but he ordered Peter to inform the Heavenly Ruler of his absence, in turn his lack of presence will be excused.
After a short moment, Peter returned to Michael's side. He looked for an area where no people could be seen and Michael suggested his mother's garden.
Even the most influential deity is prohibited to enter this sacred place. Well, the Celestial Goddess dislikes uninvited guests entering her palace, especially a garden she personally cultivated together with the Goddess of Nature.
But let's not get sidetracked. Some minor details to be mentioned include swings, a hedge maze, a fountain in the center of the maze, a floral garden and a white gazebo.
"Is it really alright for us to be here, o'God of Archangels?" Peter asked. No matter how much he wants to adore the garden's beauty, he is conscious of who owns this piece of land.
"Our reason to be here is valid, thus cast your worries away." He replied in a nonchalant tone.
Peter took a deep breath. "Even with his statement and involvement of the main unit, our investigation leads to a dead end."
"Worse not a single entity matches the description provided. Though however, in my very opinion, I believe that our advances are leading us to the enemy's trap."
Peter glanced at the sky then returned his gaze back to where it was before. Later he can't help but release a sigh, "To summarise, the mission is ongoing with no reports to highly be proud of."
"How strange."
"Pardon." Peter conveyed his confusion. It seemed as if Michael expected this to happen and immediately reply without a change of tone in his voice.
"Whatever you are thinking, you misunderstood." He ran his hand through his hair, "A lost thought came in mind.. telling me that our daily activities, movements and words have been influenced with human culture."
"That's quite a bold thought you have there, Mi.."
Peter didn't finish his sentence when Michael raised his hand towards his face, signaling to be silent. He got flustered by his gesture that he subconsciously shifted his gaze to Michael's face.
"Irene..?" His voice contained a tone of disbelief. Though his expression seemed to express something else; his nose is wrinkled and his eyes were wide opened.
Irene flinched as soon as she heard her brother's voice. She slowly turned her head and found her brother with Peter standing at a distance.
Her hand tightly gripped on Drake's fine black tunic that it got wrinkled. Maybe she's honest even in this situation that she doesn't bother to hide her reaction that every bit of her face displays how her mind is turned chaotic.
Michael can't process what he is seeing. His sister is with a man and this man fits every detail of that soldier who betrayed his superior and comrades.
He was about to draw his sword but Peter acted with his instinct and in a blink of an eye, Irene is beside Michael. You can always say that never underestimate even a person who is dealing with his superior's indifference.
Besides his quick move, Michael saw a sneaky smirk on Drake's pretty face. However pointing it out would be useless since this man changed his expression.
Returning back to his younger sister, he got easily reminded of a page in a book he read. "Irene, do you know that having a relationship with some stranger is dangerous?"
She pressed her lips together, "But he is no stranger to me."
Michael inhaled then sighed. "Do you remember that principle?"
"Consider control; do not involve yourself in a rejected or forbidden relationship and avoid having an illegitimate offspring."
"You remember," he paused for a moment to calm his emotions, "Then why are you intimate with a man?"
Irene is out of words. She felt like he cornered her and a single word can start a lecture. Wait, why is her cheeks turning red?
"But we haven't even done it yet.."
Peter opened his mouth giving his face an expression of disappointment, disbelief and confusion. Meanwhile Michael literally facepalmed himself, 'How did we even get here?'
"Why are you so bad at changing the topic?! I literally asked you if you did remember that phrase and out of all options to answer, you chose something that isn't even in the choices!"
"It's not my fault! You're always the selfish one anyways, why can't I have my own happiness?!"
"Me, selfish? What do you want to say?"
"Don't feign ignorance at me. You are to succeed father and you are lecturing me because my actions are an obstacle to you!"
They both took a moment to catch their breath and suddenly— SLAP! Michael slapped Irene.
"ENOUGH!" Helios yelled.
Irene touches her swollen cheek with her eyes wide open. Michael and Peter bowed stiffly, knowing that the Heavenly Ruler is furious.
Their argument became quite loud that fortunately only a certain amount of people heard them. Helios pinched the bridge of his nose while Callista lifted his chin towards the sky with her eyes closed.
"Aren't you going to stop their squabble?" she said in a neutral tone.
"Interact with them for a bit then let your servants escort them out."
"Will do, o'Heavenly Ruler."
...
"Peter, you are dismissed."
He bowed his head a bit lower and rests his hand onto his chest. "Είθε ο κανόνας σου να είναι αιώνιος. This humble subject takes his leave."
"..."
Helios cracks his neck. "Now explain to me, every single bit and don't even dare to lie before me."
They both nod. Michael spoke his side of explanation first then Irene followed with her side of explanation.
Helios felt the desire of drinking tea while watching both of them. In his opinion, his son is in the right track but his daughter. His daughter can be the example of what went wrong.
