"The last of the enemy are finally made their retreat!"
"Father!! We're just going to let them go? Just like that?"
"If you want to pursue them, you're free to do so."
"Hmph, insignificant."
She went out to check on her horse who was still resting along with the other fellow horses, gently stroking him she tenderly embraced the creature who was panting heavily.
"Come on boy, let's get this over with." She got up on him and off she went back into the battlefield.
"Maya keep an eye on you sister would you?"
"She's no longer a baby she can take good care of herself."
The battlefield was already deserted, nothing was left but only the corpse of the defeated enemies. All alone on the field she started to scout for her enemies. The escape route was just round the corner and she was just a few steps away from pursuing them when out of nowhere someone came to stop her.
"Heli!! Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Father said that I could pursue them, so why not have some fun."
"All alone? Do you wanna die?"
"Elris! Let's go! We must head back to the capital."
"But sister!"
Maya wasn't the type to give in, once she set her mind on something she must have it no matter what. As the eldest she has a lot riding on her, the heir to the throne, the most sincere and beloved by all.
Elris wasn't the type to give in either, she had to get things done her way no matter what happens. These two were more similar than they thought.
"Let's go Elris! Now!!" Heli shouted heading back to their camp.
"What a life." Elris pouted as her horse galloped back.
Maya watched as her two sisters went back, and when she was all alone in the battlefield she got off her horse and started to examine the place. The enemy was strong but defeating an army led by the most powerful general of the country was nothing more than just a lucid dream.
It was getting dark and the rest of the army had already made preparations for their journey back. The horses had gotten all the rest they needed and it was time to leave the bloody place. The injured survivors were placed inside the carriages while those who died glorious deaths were buried in proper burial grounds and were given honour and respect.
The General along with the King led the way for the others, in the dark cold night they began their journey home.
"Father is this the kind if world we have to live in? When will there be peace?" The most cunning of all the sisters started.
"A time will come when there will be no more bloodshed, that will be the time when a new ruler shall ascend the throne and peace will reign." the King explained.
It wasn't a long way back, the sun was already high up in the sky when the king along with his army entered the city. Everyone welcome their arrival with happiness. Even the poorest of the poor were present there. Just then out of nowhere a man who appeared to be in his 20s came running in front of the general's path.
"You!!" The general shouted with her stern voice.
The crowed were all murmuring and whispering, but it was quite audible to know that they were talking about the man's insolent behaviour.
Just then a group of guards came chasing after him. The man who was indeed still a boy in front of the king jumped from on roof to another dodging every bullet that was shot.
"Interesting little fellow don't you think?" The king kept his eyes on the boy who effortlessly made his way to the tallest building in the area.
Steadily he stood at the tip of the roof readying himself to make a great leap once the guard takes his shot. The king watched with anticipation and as the boy planned he made his move and the bullet missed him by only a few inches.
The guards reloaded their guns and were ready to try again but the king stopped them. He unmount his horse and turn around to look at the trembling thief.
"Father he is a thief, he must be punished." Elris said as she made her horse turned towards the direction of where the boy was.
"Insignificant." Maya said and just like that her horse galloped to the palace.
Heli too took no interest in the situation and hurried to the palace without uttering a single word.
The general, Vanessa, on the other hand was very eager to hear her father's sentence for that insolent thief. She patiently waited for her father to make his move.
"What's your name young one?"
The boy still kneeling, bend down his head facing the ground, "Aillard Dragomir Williams, y-your majesty." The boy stammered.
The king, Basilius smiled at the boy and turned towards his remaining daughters, "What do you think we should do with this fellow?" He aksed them giving them the opportunity to control the boy's future.
"Treason, he deserves to be tortured to death." Elris was the first own to give her opinion.
"Talented lad isn't he father," Amanda exaggerated, "Pity that he must die." She turned towards her fourth sister who was busy admiring the clouds, her indifferent behaviour she didn't even give the least effort to try to hide it. "Elris let us go, Lillian is waiting for us back home."
Amanda's horse galloped to the palace with Elris's following behind it.
Vanessa waited for her father's sentence but he was patiently questioned the boy. She turned to her sister who was still present there and saw that she wasn't even bothered with it, she was lying on top if her horse as though she was sleeping.
"That girl."
"So Aillard what did you steal?"
"Your majesty please don't misunderstand me but I never stole." His words were so confident that it even caught the attention of the indifferent person sleeping on her horse. "I only took back what belonged to my beloved." He took out the gold locket which he carefully hid in his pocket and showed it to the king.
"Took back? Ha! You liar!" Shouted Vanessa who was now getting impatient.
"Then...who took it from you?" asked the person lying on the horse.
Aillard was now shivering, he didn't know whether the king will believe him. He was silent, he didn't utter a single word and just hanged his head.
"Well?" The king asked him in a gentle voice.
Aillard just pointed to one of the guards standing there. Vanessa was not convinced, she as the general knew her soldiers way too well to believe such lies.
"How dare y-"
Vanessa wasn't able to finish her speech when the guard suddenly fainted, the king too seemed astonished by what just happened he looked at the boy who was still kneeling in front of him hanging his head then turned to his other daughter who had already released an arrow at the guard.
Everyone present there was silent, not even a single whisper could be heard. All their attention was on the person who shot the guard, she turned to Aillard and smiled at him just before heading to the palace.
"Father how could you let her?"
"Vanessa you should head back too."
"No I won't, I won't until you let me end him!!"
"End him? I actually have something else in mind for
this boy."
Furious, Vanessa hastily made her way to the palace. Her horse was galloping as fast as it could not bothering to stop for the people who were in her way.
"Do you have a family boy?"
"My mother died when I was just a kid as for my father he died in battle, your majesty."
'Died in battle? Williams?'
"I'm impressed by your skill and talent, your confidence seemed to have caught her attention as well, but since one of our soldiers is dead because of you...shouldn't you pay me in some sort of way." The words of the king astounded everyone there. How could a mere commoner pay the king? Even if he worked an entire lifetime it would still not be rendered possible.
Aillard bend to the dirt and begged for the king's mercy. Basilius was known to be a benevolent and righteous king, his mercy was so much so that he would not punish one without any proper rhyme or reason.
Basilius looked upon that orphan with pity. "Your beloved is she among this crowd?" Aillard still in the dirt slightly nodded his head. " Return the locket to her and follow me."
His fiancée who was hiding in her hut, terrified, shut the wooden door and hid herself in the bedroom. No matter how hard Aillard knocked she ignored it.
Aillard found it inappropriate to keep the king waiting so he slid the locket from the bottom of the nearly broken door and left with the king without bidding his beloved farewell.
...****************...
"Your father seems to have brought home a mere commoner."
At the very mention of the commoner Vanessa slammed on the table hard as she stood up throwing her cup to the other side of the room.
"Vanessa sit down," Maya shouted. Her eyes were so dead serious that it scared half of the people in the room.
Knowing that it would be completely pointless to argue with her elder sister Vanessa sat down and stared at the window. That's when it hit her, Twyla! It was Twyla who shot one of her most competent warrior. She clenched her dress and gritted her teeth in anger, her plate flung to the other side of the table and just like that with a bang of the gigantic silver doors she was gone.
"What's with her?" asked Lillian who was extremely terrified at her sister's behaviour.
"Leave her be."
"But mother she'll murder her!" said Elris who knew how Vanessa could be at times.
Maya out of nowhere let out a burst of laughter, she was laughing so hard she even fell to the floor. "Murder? Who? Vanessa?"
"Laugh all you want but I'm not gonna miss this one," said Elris.
"Count me in," said Amanda pushing back her chair.
The girls searched for their two sisters in every room they could possibly think of but they were no where to be found. Then they heard screams coming from the training ground.
"It couldn't be!" Maya was extremely worried about thier wellbeing she needed to see them instantly, not bothering about the ones there she teleported herself straight to the training grounds where she found Vanessa struggling to free herself from Twyla who was merely doing anything but twisting her arm.
"Stop it both of you!!" Maya shouted pulling Twyla's hand away.
Twyla looked at Maya, she didn't say anything she just smiled at her and threw Vanessa to Maya's arms,"Next time try to not get on my nerves."
Just then the great gate flung open and in came rushing the other girls along with their mother.
"Mother," Vanessa pouted,"Look she's trying to hurt me."
Twyla laughed at the sight of her elder sister acting like a baby just to get on their mother's good side. The queen glared at Twyla and went to help Vanessa who was pretending to be extremely hurt.
"Excuse me." Twyla doesn't like be around people too much, she would rather be alone than spend time with her sisters. She was about to leave the room but her mother surely won't let her go without a proper scolding.
"Twyla apologise to your sister!"
"Mother she was the one who started it." Those calm words enraged Vanessa even more.
"Liar!!" Vanessa shouted.
Twyla looked at her desperate for attention sister and smiled,"If it's about that boy then settle this with father not with me."
"You killed my most skilled and experienced warrior!!" Vanessa retaliated.
"Oh him...I had every right to do so...after all stealing wasn't the only thing he was guilty of,"said Twyla.
"Vanessa," the Queen started,"Who was the guard whom Twyla shot?"
"Roderic." Vanessa got straight to the point as usual.
The queen didn't even look a little bit surprised by her answer, she had already known everything about this Roderic. He was the one who propagated the disturbings and unfamiliar things happening in the palace, he also tried to poison the king and on top of that he wanted to claim the throne all for himself.
"That's enough all of you go get ready, the banquet is about to start." The Queen changed the topic to pacify the two.
Maya huddled up the others and led them to their rooms. The queen, Yeona too left after making sure that her other two daughters were no more in the mood to cause a scene.
After they all left only the two of them were left once again in the training grounds. Vanessa glared at Twyla as her blood boiled.
"Shouldn't you be happy?" Twyla asked gleefully.
"Happy?" Vanessa wasn't aware of what her father had done, she only knew that he brought the boy to the palace.
Twyla laughed. She could she the confusion in her sister's eyes, it appears she was the only one who actually knew what their father had decided to do with the boy. She found it rather amusing that even the General was not made aware of the fact," He will be under your control, General Vanessa Barte Bellevue."
"Under my control?" Vanessa wasn't able to process what her sister just said, the perplexity of the situation only grew more and more with every explanation.
"You'll see, when we start training those new recruits, as for now come let's go get ready."
'New recruits? ' Vanessa's thoughts ran wild but she only brushed it off.
The banquet held that night was to celebrate the victory of Zariya, the capital city of the kingdom of Llyn. All of the kings of the various countries under the banner of the Llyn Empire were invited to the banquet.
Victory for the kingdom of Zariya was already predicted as no one could defeat their army. Though being underestimate as it was led by a female general, it proved all it's enemies wrong. Even one of the most powerful kingdoms in the land was unable to deafeat the army of Zariya and was now under Basilius Ragnar Bellevue's rule.
It was obvious of the fact that the army was led my a female general but not many were aware of the fact that the female general whom they think so lowly was actually the third daughter of the king himself.
These designated princesses managed to look all innocent and pretty in front to strangers and this averted many from the fact that they were not merely princesses but also powerful and skilled warriors.
At the stuck of 7 the guest had begun to arrive. The chariots halted and from them descended the kings and queens along with their sons and daughters.
Security was tight. Guards were placed at each amd every corner of the place, even the most uneventful spot was swarmed by guards.
"I'm not going down,"said Twyla.
"You must." Maya insisted,"Father will not let you have your way this time."
As Twyla was looking down at the guest from the window of her room she saw a familiar chariot pulled up. She immediately stopped what she was doing and focus on the chariot, when it's occupants finally came out her grip of the silver grills tightened.
"Your husband to be arrives." Heli joked followed by jeers from her other sisters present in the room.
"Until he has matched my superiority," Twyla gritted her teeth,"Only then will I consider him a worth husband."
Enraged she left the room.
"She's joking right?" Amanda asked as the maid was helping her with her gown.
"She must be," Lillian added, "There's no way he's going to be more powerful than her."
"He already is actually," said Elris, "In brute strength that is."
"Twyla might be the weakeast one compared to all of us but not even Vanessa could beat her," added Heli.
"Her powers along with that stone heart of hers...they're what makes her invincible." Elris added more to the conversation.
As the other sister were busy with their discussions Twyla had went to the ballroom to spy on the guest. There were only the usuals, no one new but his presence only made her day worse.
After scouting out everything to make sure there was nothing suspicious she ran back up to the room where all her sisters were.
The moment she entered the room the maids rushed to groom and help her with her dress, something she always hated. Twyla preferred wearing her armour than wearing a long silk cloth, which according to her was uncomfortably revealing.
