Pale white skin.
Dull Blue Eyes.
Unwanted curves.
Flat Brown hair.
That's all I see when I enter my bathroom, a reminder of my past.
I sigh and get in the shower. The warm water flows down my body and immediately relaxes my tense temples. I breathe in content, almost forgetting that I had a job to get to.
Almost.
But I just couldn't forget the face of my incredibly handsome, but a pig-headed boss.
Dante Wright-
His eyes we're stunning electric and I felt waves pass through me when he looked at me. He was tall as a giant with pearly white teeth and flawless white skin. His hair was jet black and always combed neatly to the side since the sides were shaved. His jawline was sharp and could slice bread, to be honest. He was the image of perfection. His personality though, eh, not so much.
Which reminds me why I have to get out of the shower.
I quickly step out of my shower and into my bedroom. It was a pretty in pink bedroom.
Which I hated.
I preferred the color Black, or Grey, maybe white but not pink, however, I had to deal with it because crazy landlady over somewhere decided that no one could change it and-
Oh my lord it's 8:15.
I have 15 minutes to dress and get to work or else I'd be late and won't hear the last of it from my boss.
I'm finally here, in my office! I made- "Twenty minutes late Ms. Williams." That annoying voice says as I open my office door. I roll my eyes internally but answer nevertheless.
"Sorry, Mr. Wright. It won't happen again."
"Yes. I do hope so and I see your attire hasn't changed." He comments distastefully looking me up and down. "Still lovely as always." Notice the sarcasm.
See what I mean. Pig.
I look down at my outfit. Simple white shirt. Black ripped jeans.
I go around doing surveys and writing bills for Lord's sake. I barely even stay in this office. I look at him sitting in my chair with his legs up and I stare at his face blankly.
"As explained many times Sir. I do surveys. As in, I go outside, walk around, and interact with people. My feet will hurt if I wear heels and if you haven't noticed tight skirts and tight blouses aren't really my thing. Now if you could kindly move so I could get back to work... I would appreciate it." I snap and for a moment he looks stunned but, in a flash, I'm pinned to the wall his hand tight on my waist.
"Listen to me well Ms. Williams, you won't speak to me like that, ever." He falls quiet, his eyes piercing into mine as I am not at a loss for words. "Next time there will be consequences. Am I clear?" He says looking at me. Our faces only inches apart and I can feel his breath fan against my face making me dizzy.
"Ye-Yes" I stutter pathetically.
"Yes, Who?" His grip tightens on my waist.
"Yes Mr. W-wright" He smirks and removes his hands and I immediately miss his warmth.
Stop it!
"Good girl." He then leaves the room without another word.
What in the world just happened?
Aspen's POV:
I never got a chance to explain my job because of… well... you know. Anyway. I work for Wright Industries. A multi-billion-dollar business that makes its money by selling information from the public to the responsible Companies.
So basically, if McDonald wanted to know how many Hispanic females wanted more fries. They would hire us.
It sounds lame but it's successful and creative. Doesn't sound like Mr. Wright at all right? Well, it isn't. His father died last year leaving the company to him. I've been working here since I was eighteen. I'm twenty-three now. And Mr. Pig-head just thinks he's all bad and powerful. I just wanna knock him off his high horse.
Anyway, so I'm doing the fun part of my job which is... surveying! Going around meeting new people is somewhat a day marker since my love life is non-existent because I am socially Awkward. Just saying. I mean to get this job you have to be all smiles, and patience and just talk a lot. Which I can do, but dates?
No.
"Um, hey excuse me?" I say putting on a huge smile towards the male with his back towards me. He spins around and gives me a small smile.
"Yes?" He replies and I get a little bit of a British accent.
"I'm doing a survey and I thought maybe you could help?" I start. Normally it's easier to introduce them to what they're doing before just jumping in.
"Ah, Okay, sure. Would you like to sit?" He says gesturing to a park bench.
"Sure" He walks ahead of me and I follow. I take time to admire his build. He was nicely built with wide shoulders and seriously tall. Well, everyone is taller than me with my 5'4 self, but still. He had blonde hair that was shaved at the sides and the top was falling over. He sits and motions for me to sit next to him. I sit and look at his face. He had freckles all over his nose and greyish eyes. His lips were pink and kind of pouty. He was cute. Scratch that Handsome but familiar.
But not as handsome as Dante. What? Stop it right now!
"Mum always told me I was handsome, but I never believed her until now." He remarks sounding amused and I clear my throat as I feel the blush creeping up at being caught staring.
"So, this survey is for the National New York Fair. It happens annually. But I don't think you're from here." I say quizzically.
"No but I've been here for years, so yes I know what that is." He replies chuckling.
"Oh okay." I look down to my book and ask him the appropriate questions
"Okay the last one, I don't wanna waste any more of your time," I say sheepishly.
"No-No, it's fine, I don't have anywhere to be and you're quite entertaining."
"Oh," I replied stupidly. Really.
Oh?
"Mhm, so what's the next one," he says and he looks like he's trying to hide a laugh. I gotta get out of here. "Corn dogs or hot dogs?" I ask seriously and he bursts out laughing. "What?"
"Seriously?" I roll my eyes and put my stuff into my bag. When he sees my actions, he immediately stops and looks at me.
"Okay-Okay, I'm sorry. Don't leave." He says putting his hand over mine.
"No, it's okay I have to get back to my office anyway."
"Oh really? Where do you work" He asks, sounding curious?
"Wright Industries." He looks at me confused and I was going to ask why but he beat me to it.
"I didn't get your name though."
"Aspen. Aspen Williams."
"I'm Damien. Lovely name by the way." He says with a wink.
Okay.
"Thanks. I must be going now. Thanks so much for your time Damien."
"You're welcome. Don't be a stranger." I only smile and walk back to the company.
I've seen him somewhere… but where?
Sitting in my office alone while eating lunch was nothing new. All the women in his building were way to stuck up and classy for my liking. I had no friends. I moved here when I was sixteen and disowned thank Lord, Mr. Wright (Dante's father) found me and was kind enough to help me onto my feet. Since then, it was work. I like my job because I get to talk and interact even if it's business-wise. Sad right?
So, when someone knocked on my door at this time, I was quite surprised. Putting down my chicken salad, I walk cautiously to the door and opened it.
"Damien?"
"Hi, love." What the fudge.
"What are you doing here," I say eyeing the brown paper bag in his hands then looking back up to his face. "How did you get in?"
"Let me in and we'll talk," he says smiling.
"No, I'm working." I half-lie. I just don't want it to get all awkward.
"During lunch?" He replies raising an eyebrow.
"Yes," I say surprisingly calmly.
"Oh, please love." He barges in while I try hard not to blush at his continuous endearment.
"How did you get in here?" I ask once he's seated.
"Let me properly introduce myself. I am Damien Wright. Brother of Dante’s wright. Son of Mr. Wright. Co-owner of Wright industries." He explains putting his feet on my table and my mouth drops open.
Another Wright?
Great.
"So, you can imagine my surprise when you said you worked here. I thought I would've noticed such a beautiful woman." I avert my eyes and blush almost immediately after the comment.
"Uh, thanks."
"I work on the ground floor though. I manage finance and structure, that's why. My brother must've been hiding you. Such a shame, but I know about you now. Hence the reason I will be eating lunch with you today."
"How about you sit and we can talk?" He suggests, "maybe get to know each other?"
"Oh," I reply still in a daze and he raises his eyebrows. "I mean, yeah sure okay." He chuckles and hops off my chair. He sits at the one in front of me and I sit in the office chair.
"So, if you're a Wright. Why aren't you from here. You know, New York?"
"Different mother, same father." He says nonchalantly with a shrug biting into his sandwich.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I'm older by a year. My mom got divorced first. A year later he's in 'love." He remarks rolling his eyes and I giggle at his tone.
"How about you?"
"Hmm?"
"Family?"
"Oh," I say looking down at my lap “I was disowned at sixteen so."
"Damn, may I ask why?"
"Abusive boyfriend became a bigger problem and started threatening my family so they disowned me, hoping he would leave them alone." I wasn't exactly ashamed of my situation. It happened already, why hide it?
"Did he?"
"I don't know if he did right away. But he died of a drug overdose a few years ago." It hurts so much to relieve these things but I'm stronger than that. I got through it.
"You've been through a lot."
"You're telling me." I scoff. I stabbed the salad around suddenly losing my appetite. He notices and lightens up the mood.
"Can I have your phone?"
"I'm sorry I only have one, I would give it to you but I-"
"Aspen I just want to insert my number." He states amused.
"Oh right. Silly me." I give him my phone and he put it in his number. He calls, so he can get mine and kisses my cheek.
"I will call you later."
"Okay," I say giving him a small smile.
His kiss didn't do anything. No tingles. Nothing. I didn't even feel electrified when he touched me or looked at me like how it did with Dante. I sigh. What am I doing? Comparing my boss to his brother.
I release yet another frustrated sigh and pick up some files to deliver to Mr. Wright’s office. I normally just go in so I push the door, but what lies before me was so not expected.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!" I practically scream dropping the files and running back out.
I am in so much trouble I think to myself leaning against his office doors.
