Otome Romance Hack

01 - My Friend Blessed Me with 2D Boyfriends

On the day Judith came back from her family trip, she brought us a pile of unnecessary souvenirs. Every single person in this class received either a bracelet, keychain, or even a T-Shirt with some cringed mottos and iconic destination printed on it. Most of them thanked them, the rest didn't really say anything.

Well, all of them got their gifts, except for me. It didn't matter, to be honest. I wouldn't know what to use with those souvenirs anyway.

"As I thought, you're not disappointed." Judith grinned beside my desk. She had finished doing her Santa job. "I wanted to buy a present for you too, you know. But you always lose every small stuff that you own. I even know that you don't like souvenirs that much."

I raised my eyebrows. She said it as if my attitude was anything special. "Everybody does that. And it's not like they love souvenirs while I don't. They're just being polite to you."

Judith laughed faintly. "I know. I just want to give the best thing for my friend. Something that you will treasure deeply."

"Stop it, you make me cringe." I did say it, though I couldn't help but pulling a slight smile. It was what it always had been: each time Judith went to an extravagant trip, she would always try to buy me a separate gift from the others. Sometimes it was something unnecessarily expensive, and when I protested, she argued back.

"My friend deserves the best things!" as she kept exclaiming. Little did she know that she's the best "thing" I could ever have.

"Well, how about this?" I tapped my fingers on the desk while thinking. "Next time you go, bring me back a sexy foreigner to be my boyfriend."

Judith's eyes went wide, so was her grinning mouth. "Ha! I had thought that you would say so!" In a flash, she reached to her own desk in front of mine and pulled a thin box from its pit. I didn't get the chance to say a word as she already put that box on my table.

It was a DVD game. The cover was an illustration of some Japanese cartoon styled of several good-looking boys. There was a background of a huge building and lots of flowers with sparkling effects.

Seriously. Roses and the sparkling things bloomed a frame on the cover.

I stared blankly at the game, unable to mutter any word. Not even my brain could process to read what's the title of this sacrilegious thing.

"It's an otome game~!" Judith laughed.

"I know what it is." I lifted my head to face Judith while trying to pull off the most betrayed face as I could. I goggled my eyes. "Judith, are you trying to make me look more miserable, is that it? Because there's no way a disgraceful muck like me will ever get laid so I have to live with a pitiful fantasy of two-dimensional men confessing their love with overly sweet computer-programmed words?"

"You're exaggerating this!" Judith punched my shoulder. "You always say how you wish to experience romance before we graduate, but never once you tried to get intimate with anyone. Hell, do you even talk to boys?"

"Should it be boys?"

"In this game, there are a few girl routes, too."

That's not what I meant.

I sighed. It was pointless to debate her. That was why I gave up and put that game inside my bag. "I'll try."

"Good!" Judith clapped her hands. "That game is really fun. Please tell me when you finish it. Oh, right! Let's have a sleepover at my house next weekend. I have a gift for you that I can't bring to school. We can have a wonderful chat about your new romance life~"

My eyes blinked. Isn't this game the gift? Judith seemed to not realise what she had said. That girl was busy pulling out the school books and notebooks from her bag. She suddenly gave me a bright-coloured book as well.

"I almost forgot. It's the guidebook," she said with a joyful tone. That was when I realised that the game wasn't her gift for me at all.

She just wanted to have a friend in the same fandom as her.
