A Friend For Life

Change

Third Person's Point of View

Sonia stared at the school poster in front of her, it was from the Theater Club. But Sonia wasn't really looking at its feature but rather, on the person that was on the poster. She eyed the poster before diverting her gaze at the girl that walk past her surrounded by a lot of students laughing and chatting with her.

Sonia sighed. "Too bad she'll be spending her last days in junior with people that couldn't make her be more open."

She eyed the girl for the last time before slowly turning to take a step to the direction opposite of where the girl in the photo was.

"Well, I won't see her face anymore." She mumbled, heels clicking as it hit the tiled floor of their school hallway. "I hope."

Meanwhile Caroline, the girl from the poster paused for a moment upon seeing a girl walking to the exit of the school building, long hair haven't been brushed and carries a bag on her shoulder that looks big enough to fit the school library's books.

"Geez does she actually know how to use a brush?" she glanced at the girl. "People like her is what I hate the most." She rolled her eyes then look back at the people around her before laughing again with them lile she saw nothing.

————

"I spoke too soon." Sonia mumbled while looking at the girl that was standing at the door of her new classroom. Today was the first day of Senior years and Sonia asked her mom to transfer her school for a better development in her college days. And the last words she said at the end of the school days have come to bite her.

Standing in front of the door to her next class is Caroline Peridot Dawn. The girl from the poster, that is now wearing a black fitted shirt a high waist blue jeans and a black accessory bag.  Meanwhile, on the first day of school there was Sonia, on her school uniform expecting that the rest of her classmates will also do the same since its a private institution.

A sigh of frustration escaped her mouth before she forced a smile on her face approaching the door to where the girl is standing.

"Caroline. Hi." She greeted.

Caroline on the other hand looked at the girl from head to toe, cringing at her unfashionable state.

"I'm so glad someone from the same previous school as me is in the same class." The girl continued.

'Plastic.' Caroline thought. She returned the fake smile from the girl.

"Ahuh..." She trailed off before entering the classroom where she saw someone familiar at the front seat. "Laura!" She skipped to the girl happily clearly forgetting the presence of the unkempt girl from before.

"Welp. I tried." Sonia shrugged before entering inside to take a seat at the last row. She opened up her old keypad phone to send a message to her mom that she's already at school,. unbeknownst to her that Caroline was looking at her from the front seat, and not just Caroline. But also another girl from the third row. Her curly long hair covering half of her face as she glance at the girl from behind her then back at the girl in front of her.

"They both look familiar." She mumbled.

"What was that Rainne?" One of her friends asked glancing at her worriedly.

"Ah no, its nothing." Secretly she glanced again at the two girls for the last time before returning her gaze on the door to wait for any student that would get in. Timely a tall guy walked from the door laughing with some other guys that walked pass the room.

"Wazzup new classmates!" The people inside the classroom excluding Sonia only looked at him. "Still shy? okay." He added before walking to take a seat beside Caroline that gave him a high five.

'What a show off.' Sonia Scoffed. Glancing at the trio in front, to the girl in the third row that she caught looking at her. The girl noticed this and awkwardly gave a small smile waving a small Hi to her. To which Sonia returned with a bright smile and wave before they both awkwardly look away from each other.

"I've seen that girl somewhere before. She's too familiar." Sonia mumbled noticing a girl taking a seat a chair apart from her. She eyed the girl that Curly dry hair wearing a checkered polo shirt and black jeans. She was looking at Sonia.

"I'm glad I wasn't late." She said striking a conversation.

"Oh, its still a bit early." Sonia smiled. Glad that the girl didn't make it too awkward for a conversation to start.

"I'm Yara." She held out a hand for Sonia to shake to which Sonia take after a few hesitations.

"Sonia. nice to meet you new classmate."

Their introduction was cut off when another girl took a seat at the another chair apart from Yara.

"You can sit beside me if you want Yara." Sonia invited, Yara didn't hesitate and transfer to a seat beside her. Sonia on the other hand, was busy eyeing the short haired girl sitting two seat away from her.

"Uh... hi." She called out.

The girl looked at her for a few seconds before smiling. "Hello."

"I'm Sonia. This is Yara!" She introduced swallowing all the shame she had in mind.

"I'm Merideth."

Soon the three of them was on a conversation about knowing each other very well, unaware of the glances from Caroline and Rainne, the conversation was then shortly cut off when the bell rung and a teacher came inside the classroom with a girl in grey shirt came in. She sat beside the loud guy from earlier that sat beside Caroline and stared at the teacher that was writing something on the board.

"My name is very long, feel free to call me Mr. Prune. And I will be your classroom adviser." He scanned the room and saw only two students wearing the school uniform he shook his head. "I would like to welcome all of you to Northwick Dane University."

Sonia again eyed the people inside the classroom. A smirk forming on her lips.

"This'll be interesting." She stated glancing again at Caroline at the front that was doing her make up with the girl she was with at the front seat that was looking at the two guys on the third row that was busy on their phone.

"So, I think no one is confident enough to introduce themselves yes?" She eyed the teacher again. "Any volunteers?"

The class instantly fall into a deep silence. "No one?"

The teacher scan the room. " I'll choose then."

Groans and scoffs is then heard throughout the entire room. He was looking around, then his eyes landed on Caroline, as he was about to call her a hand was seen raising beside her.

"Me, sir I'll volunteer." The guy from earlier gleefully said.

"Wow. How brave." The teacher said smirking at his student. "Okay then. Introduce yourself."

Approach

Third Person's Point of View

Amber eyes scan the room and landed on the guy that was sitting beside its owner, an arm raised with a victorious smile on its face.

"Me, sir I'll volunteer." The guy cheerfully said.

A small smile made its way to Cole's lips as her amber eyes glistened with excitement and interest in the three person sitting beside her.

"Wow. How brave." The teacher said smirking at his student. "Okay then. Introduce yourself."

The guy cleared his throat to achieve a more deeper and manlier voice.

"Hello classmates, I am Denver Jeff. Nice to meet all of you." The whole class then was turned to a fit of laughter when Denvers' voice quivered at the end and sounded like Donald duck and the only people in the room that wasn't laughing were Sonia from the back, Cole and another girl that was shaking her head in disagreement.

"That was a nice introduction." Mr. Prune sarcastically said taking a seat at the chair prepared for the teachers. He then once again eyed the whole class as silence decides to evade it.

"Anyone else?" He asked after a moment of silence. He waited for a few bit before shrugging. "Okay then. Like I said, I won't force you." He stood up then write a few stuff on the board as he introduced his topic to the class.

That continued on for the next two hours before the bell rung indicating the end of his lessons and for the students to have a break.

" Finally." Caroline mumbled under her breath and watch as Mr. Prune pack his stuffs and bid goodbye before leaving the classroom.

As all the other students stood up to make its way towards the cafeteria Caroline and Laura was about to follow in suit but stopped when Caroline's eyes landed on the girl sitting next to Denver, Mid-back length black hair tied into a clean ponytail, amber eyes staring at the board where a few scribbles from Mr. Prune was written. The girl was wearing a grey plain shirt, black colored pants and a black sports shoes.

'Athlete...' Caroline thought to herself approaching the girl and poked her shoulders. The girl jerked from her touch surprised that someone had made in contact with her on her absent-minded state. She scan the area around her, then landed on Caroline's smiling face.

"Hi." The girl did not respond and only look at Caroline much to her annoyance. "You're not gonna eat?"

The girl looked at Caroline for a few more seconds before quietly shooking her head.

"Aw. That's too bad." Caroline sympathized. "Oh well then, we're going out so see you." She then waved and ask Laura to leave with her. She walked to the door, but before she left she glanced again at the girl she was talking to earlier and to the girl sitting at the last row in class then scoffed.

"What a bummer, if only they could be more appropriate to be friendly." She murmured making her way beside Laura that was already walking to the school cafeteria.

Sonia eyed the doorway of where Caroline was standing earlier and sigh. Slowly she stood up to make her way to the same direction but upon reaching the front seat her bored expression was replaced by mischief when she saw the same person Caroline was trying to talk out.

'Now this is interesting.' She thought to herself. 'What kind of a person would caught the interest of Caroline herself?'  She made her way towards the sitting girl and masked up a charming smile.

"Hi!" She greeted to the girl cheerfully posing with a peace sign placed at the corner of her right eye.

Cole was a bit taken a back to see someone so cheerful at the first day of school, and maybe a bit too excited since she's the only one wearing the school uniform at such an early time. But what also made her interest pick up is what the pose the girl is doing.

"How cute..." She blurted. She covered it with a smile and stared at Sonia who was looking at her, surprised all over her face. She came to a realization that what she said must've been very surprising for the girl so she instantly decided to cover her sudden outburst. "I mean, you look like an anime character."

Sonia's hand slowly came down from eye to her sides, eyeing the girl with scanning eyes. Cole, seeing the girl's reaction started to worry. Thinking that maybe the girl won't understand her being a fan of anime and would scramble away.

"Which character?" She asked interested in who the girl will say next, but decided to suggest a certain character in the end. "Maybe Morgiana!"

Cole gasped, amber eyes brimming with excitement looking at Sonia with a large smile on her face. "I was about to say Lucy but you beat me to it."

Sonia chuckled. 'Its a click I guess.' she thought taking a seat on the floor of their classroom to converse with the girl.

"I'm Sonia. Nice to meet you." She introduced repeating the same pose she did when she approached Cole.

"The name's Cole." Cole sheepishly smiled, a bit happy that someone came to befriend her.

"You're an athlete are you?" Sonia asked curiously.

"Yes, I'm on Softball team." The girl replied smiling. Now somehow comfortable of Sonia's cheerful presence.

The two was busy on conversation with each other clearly supreme close and comfortable with each others' presence when Caroline and Laura walked inside the room. She glanced at the two, watching them talk to each other acting as if they've been friends for long which cause her to clench her fist in frustration.

'There is nothing to be envy about here...' She thought walking past the two that was chuckling and giggling at a small conversation taking a seat beside them and stare at them. 'But why do I feel so empty about it?'

Her thoughts were cut off when she noticed Sonia pulling a girl to her and strike another conversation.

"Why can't I do that?" Caroline mumbled sighing in frustration. She then again watched Sonia smile at the girl she just pulled and decided to listen to their conversation.

"Hey hey!!" Sonia cheerfully said as she pulled the girl close to her.

"Uhmm... Hi." The girl shyly said tucking a piece of hair behind her ear.

"You seem familiar, have we met somewhere?" Caroline rolled her eyes.

'That's a lame approach.' She thought.

"Oh my gosh! You too?" She almost fell on her chair upon realization that Sonia wasn't trying to act all cringe approachers. "Have we met somewhere before?"

The two giggled and later even Cole started laughing with them. They were in a fit of laughter when the bells indicating the time came. The three of them were still laughing at each other even though they were now sitting back to where they were first seated and soon calmed down with a small smile on their faces.

"They seem to be having fun." Laura said noticing the disturbance on her friends face. "Do you want to befriend them too?"

Caroline stared at Laura before nodding slowly. "I don't know how."

"How about starting with her." Laura said eyeing Cole. "Since she's sitting beside us."

"I said I don't know how." Caroline retorted, a frustrated sigh escaping her lips.

"Well then, why not wait for the teacher to introduce us so that she can share an information or two?" Caroline looked at her friend that was looking at her back, when she turned to glance, she saw a teacher on the door staring at the whole class before entering the door.

" I guess we'll give it a go. " She mumbled as her teacher walked in front.

" Everybody get inside, classes is about to start."

Attempt

Third Person's Point of View

[So how's it? Going to a new environment?]

Caroline glanced at the message she just received from her friend Rea, contemplating whether to flat out burst into tears and tell her all the insecurities she's currently feeling or to just shrug it off and say she's fine. Taking a seat at her bedside with a sigh she typed.

[I can't fit in---] She look at her message once again before pressing the cancel button and typing a new message.

[I'm good. Some people were friendly to me.]

Caroline once again sighed, throwing her phone onto the soft mattress of her bed and lied down. She looked at the ceiling for a while thinking of the girls she had met during the first day of class, she laid down on her stomach burying her face on the pink pillow she was laying down to earlier groaning in process.

"Why does it looks so easy but so hard to do?!" She stated voice muffled due to the pillow. She was so preoccupied in her thoughts that she wasn't aware of someone at the doorframe of her room listening to all her complaints and rants about her life, the guy at the doorframe sighed, moving backwards and knocked on his sister's room.

"Peri, dinner's ready." Calvin's voiced stopped Caroline from saying more about her miserable social life and took a seat from laying down the pink bed.

"You could just ask the maid to tell me about it." She pouted, hands folded in front of her as she eyed her older brother that only gave a grin in return.

"I was gonna say congratulations on your first day of school. So, I came here personally." He retorted wrapping an arm around his sister's neck in a gentle manner and ruffling his sister's hair. "So, how was it?"

Caroline rolled her eyes. "I really don't want to talk about it."

Calvin frowned but said nothing about it instead, he changed the subject in understanding that his sister won't tell him anything. "Well, to cheer you up, I ask the cook to make your favorites!"

The two continue giggling until reaching the dining hall where their grandparents are waiting for them.

"Well, I guess I'll try again tomorrow." She mumbled watching her family as they eat with a smile on their face talking about stuffs that they can understand well.

Meanwhile Sonia sat at the couch of their home cuddling her sister that greeted her the minute she entered the gates of their house. Maple eyed her sister from head to toe, starting at the big smile her elder sister is giving her.

"Why are you smiling so brightly big sister?" The kid curiosly asked not planning on letting her sister go from the hug.

"Hmmm... I wonder why." Sonia wondered pretending to not know why, she then pulled out a bar of chocolate and hand it to her younger sister. "Maybe because I got you something?"

The 6 years old kid remove her arms from Sonia's waist and grab the chocolate a shout of joy coming out of her as she laugh. "Thank you big sister." The girl gratified landing a small kiss on her sister's cheek to which Sonia returned with a kiss on Maple's forehead.

"So how was the first day of school?"  She glanced at their door and saw her mom entering the door carrying a plate with fried fish, she watched as the two pet cat of her sister followed her mother and again she eyed her mother and smiled.

"I made a friend."

"Oh that's very interesting. Tell me about it." Gaia watched her daughter in anticipation and interest as she listened to her discoveries at the first day of school but in the middle of their talk, a sound of the gates opening was heard and the sound of a bike followed in suit.

" He's early." The big smile on Sonia's face vanished and was replaced with her usual cold attitude as she heard a grunt coming from the man that got down from his bike. Upon reaching the door the man eyed Sonia and Maple.

"Happy first day of school!!" The guys' voice left a bitter attitude in Sonia. "You are so lucky that you were still allowed to stay here." He added.

'He reeks alcohol.' Sonia thought. 'Its distasteful.' She stood up, grabbing her stuffs from the couch and dragging them out of the door proceeding to the storage room which happened to be her room. Sighing, she immediately crashed herself onto the bed placed at the corner of the room and stared at the ceiling.

"When will he learn to shut up?" Sonia stated stopping a tear that was about to fall out of her eyes. "What a hopeless man." She added, taking a seat to grab a phone from her bag and eyed the number she had received from Cole, she smiled a bit closing her phone once again and went to change.

————

"Hey Cole! Good morning!" Sonia Cheerfully greeted approaching Cole that was already in her seat. It has already been a week since the class started and now everyone has their own set of friends in class.

"Hey Sonia, Good morning." Cole smiled, a bit happy that Sonia didn't choose to ignore her since they both sit like a large distance from each other. "I got the text you sent from yesterday."

The two of them were giggling about the message Sonia sent to Cole when Sonia noticed Caroline all alone in the corner and Laura out of sight. She sighed.

'Must I do this just for the sake of the word mercy?' She thought, opening her mouth to talk. "Hey Caroline. Good morning." She greeted smiling a bit.

Caroline was a bit taken a back, staring at the girl that didn't even brushed her hair a little touched that someone acknowledge her presence for just a second. "Hi." She replied smiling back at the girl.

Caroline was about to say more but was cutt off when a someone pat her from behind. She looked back and saw a girl with mid-back straight purple hair, gold color eyes and adorned with a few make up.

"Hi Caroline!" The girl greeted cheerfully.

'Feeling close.' Caroline thought and smiled at the girl. "Hi."

"I'm Erika by the way." She introduced trying to get closer to her.

Caroline inwardly scoffed. "Yeah, you were introducing yourself to Laura yesterday." She forced a smile.

"Oh well... wanna join us at lunch later with my friends?" She invited.

Caroline looked around and saw that Sonia was nowhere to be found and Cole was silently listening to them and another girl sitting behind Cole.

'She's hesitant.' The girl sitting behind Cole thought scanning the reaction from Caroline's face.

"Oh, I don't think I can. I have a lunchdate with my boyfriend." Caroline responded smiling sweetly at Erika who only pouted in return.

"Oh that's too bad" Erika said diverting her attention from Caroline to another friend. "Oh well, I'll see you around then."

Caroline only waved at the girl and look at the door for any signs of Laura. And just as she glanced at the door a dazed Laura walked into the room, bags under her eyes as if she was awake the whole night.

"What happened to you?"She questioned the minute her friend arrive in front of her.The girl didn't move nor respond, she only looked up as if in deep thought. Due to annoyance, Caroline grabbed the girl by her arms which cause the girl to return to her usual state.

" Huh? What?"

"What happened to you?" Caroline asked.

"Huh? Oh... uhmm..." The girl returned back to her dazed state taking a seat beside Caroline and stared again into space.

Caroline only sighed and let her friend wandered off into space as she fished out her phone and took a few selfies before hearing the bell indicating the first period to start came, she sighed.

"If this continues on, I'm guessing that my presence here at school would be limited then." Caroline stated eyeing Cole that was already chatting at the girl that was seated behind her with a smile on her face.
