"...What on earth happened to you Karin?"
I wasn't sure what she meant so I looked at her in wonder. She quickly dragged me along with her into the living room before bringing out a makeup mirror from her purse and placing in front of me.
"Look at yourself ", she said .
I dropped the mirror in shock. I hadn't looked at my reflection in months so what I saw looking back at me on that mirror was a huge wake up. My smooth fair glowing skin was now pale, full of pimples with tiny red blushes everywhere. My eyes were dim with bags under it, hair looked unhealthy and messy even though I was sure I had washed and brushed it that morning. I buried my face in my palms and burst into tears. I looked like a cursed witch instead of a fairy. My fairy glow was gone leaving behind a pale miserable being. Ryoko wrapped her arms around me and stroked my hair while saying comforting words to me.
After ten minutes of crying my eyes out, I couldn't form tears anymore.
"Ryoko, I need help", I said while sniffling a bit. My head was on her shoulder and she was still stroking my hair gently.
"I'll do anything you want so just ask away."
Ryoko's presence was a real wakeup call for me. Within the week she was around, she took me out for a makeover, shopping and helped me find a good therapist. I started practicing my mana control again. It wasn't easy but I refused to give up.
After Ryoko went back, I decided to find my own path so I tried applying for a training program once again. I had always wanted to become a stylist just like my mother. At last I was accepted by a new startup fashion design company and was called to come for the interview. That meant I had to leave Takinoue where I grew up, and relocate to Tokyo.
At first I was a bit scared and worried but I reassured myself that if Ryoko could do it, so could I.
I informed my parents that I was moving and they supported me. It wasn't my first time in Tokyo so I knew my way around. I rented a tiny apartment in Shinjuku since that was were the company was located at. Everything was going great and I was positive about myself acing the interview.
Two days after settling into my new place, the day of my interview finally arrived. I could barely sleep the night before because I was too busy cross checking things I needed to go with, choosing the most presentable but not overwhelming clothes, doing skin care and meditating to clear my head for my big day. At last I slept late but still managed to jump out of bed the moment my alarm rang.
I rushed my shower, wore the outfit I had finally settled for, did my hair and applied a reasonable amount of makeup. My fairy glow was back so I was as beautiful as a super model once again. Finally before heading out I looked at my reflection in the mirror and said to myself,
"You can do this Karin, just go impress their pants off."
My therapist had told me to always use positive words on myself and so far it was working for me. With confidence, I strode out of the house while humming my favorite song happily.
Everywhere I went, everyone gave me their attention. This made me even more confident in my beauty. At the interview everyone was extremely nice to me, to the extent where I started wondering if my powers were no longer shape shifting but bewitchment. The task I was asked to do at the interview was pretty complicated but I managed to fall under the few who completed it. When the interview was over it was almost 7pm in the evening. I yawned and stretched after exiting the company building. I was very tired but was so excited.
"I'm definitely getting this one for sure." I said to myself cheerfully.
While standing at the pedestrian crossing and waiting for the light to turn green so we could cross, I started making mental notes on who to call first and share the good news with. Lost in thought, I didn't notice that the light had turned green and everyone else had started crossing. When I got back to my senses the others on my side of the road were already across. I saw that the light was still green and decided to run across before it changed back to red. No cars were close by anyway so their wasn't anything to worry about. As I got to the middle of the road I saw a vehicle headlight just inches away from me. For a second everything froze. How didn't I see that truck coming, Why didn't I notice it until it was too late, what do I do to survive this. I was so sure I didn't want to die and that I had to survive this. I shut my eyes tight as time seemed to move fast again.
Before the car could hit me I thought about a small animal I could turn into. I instantly released a lot of mana forcing it to quickly turn me into the first small animal that came to my mind.
FLASH!!!
SCREECH !!!
CRASH!!!
I opened my eyes and I looked around. I let out a breathe of relief before passing out. I survived but I had used up too much mana during the transformation which weakened me.

.
"She still hasn't woken up yet?"
"No not yet."
"Who are those talking", I wondered while trying to open an eye.
"Do you think we should send her back to the vet, it has been three days and its not showing any signs of waking up" a female voice said.
"Uhm, I'm not so sure about that." said a male voice that sounded young. "Look she seems to be trying to move, that means she's awake."
I finally managed to open my eyes and the light in the room stung a bit making it difficult to see the faces of the two people talking.
"Where am I?" or what I thought I said because all that came out was a sad doggy yawl.
"What was that?" more yawling
"Why can't I hear my voice?" still more yawling
"Wow she seem active already," the female said while stroking my head, "and so cute too."
My eyes grew wide as sudden realization hit me. I tried to stand up and look at my legs or paws.
"Oh My God I turned into a dog!", I exclaimed which only came out as a loud howl.
And that's how I ended up being stuck here in the animal shelter for the past two weeks, as a dog.
