Getting Closer

"W.. what?" Joy was so surprised to hear Rey's sudden request about exchanging portraits. "But I don't feel too confident to show my face up to anyone new. Look, honestly said, I got a round face, I'm not that pretty, my hair is kinda short and stiff, and I was being cursed forever to wear this thick glasses."

Rey wasn't reply in a hurry. But his melodious laughter once again burst. "Ha ha ha.. no need to lown down your profile. I'm not too handsome either. I often regret about how narrow my eyes are, people around me often mocked, 'Rey, why do you look so sleepy? I'm not, just my eyes are so small like a pair of crescent moon'."

"I do like narrow eyes, they are sexy. Much better suits my taste." Joy chuckled.

"You do? Uhh, thanks. It might looks just like emoticon ^_^. U know, smize emoticon."

"Uh, cute. You make me so curious right now. Then, please let me see your smize."

"You too have to send me yours. And I'll send you a gift as well."

"Okay? But I have no idea what to gift. Maybe just a pic of me."

"Maybe I'll record you some MP3 songs I like in the CD. So you can listen to my favorite tunes too while you study for your final."

"That would be nice. Thanks in advance. I'm hardly waiting for that. And I hope you won't be surprised or lose your feeling after you see me."

"Ha ha ha. That won't be happened. I just want us to see each other because I myself so curious in nature, and I won't ever judge a girl by her cover."

They exchanged home addresses and promised to send each others' photograph, which usually arrive a few days later by regular post.

After their phone conversation ended, Joy quickly went to her photo albums, looked for her most beautiful pic. It wasn't easy to find one, as she's always worry if her face looked too round or plumpy. Her body was slim and a little bit curvy, but again she didn't really confident about her face.

So she took one postcard-sized pic where she posed with a few other girls in college, wrote Rey's home address on an envelope, and put the pic in before glued it.

"I hope Rey won't ever find out so quickly which girl is me."

And Rey on the other side of the town, also hesitated about sending his photo. As he was famous, and he wanted nobody to see his face 'directly' then remembered who he was.

Joy might seemed smart, but she also so honest and naive. She wasn't the cunning type that liked to find out more, at least for this time.

So Rey decided to send her just a formal shot of his face with his everyday outfit, no smile, no palace-looking embellishment, so Joy wouldn't easily find out about Rey's true identity.

And he mailed it early in the morning. "I hope Joy won't find out about me too soon. I'd like to see where this new relationship will end. Dunno why, with Joy I found some kind of yearning. Like a long lost feeling I never had with anyone."

Rey still didn't know where was her mother, the woman who married his father, gave birth to Rey then vanished. His Daddy King still remained silent if kid-to-teenager Rey frequently asked or simply nagged about 'why Dad separated with Mom? Where is she now? Why you never tell me anything?'. So Rey felt so lack and empty of family love. It wasn't easy to be a firstborn and the only son with so many royal future hard duties ahead. So, it was almost unbearable to nowadays Rey, just until he met Joy online.
