The darkness around her seemed to fade and a bright light enveloped her vision. The fog lifted from her vision. She felt warm and safe. She hadn’t felt this way in a long time. She heard a gentle voice though she couldn’t make it out. A gentle smell floated into her nose. It had a creaminess to it like a cream (obviously). It also had a freshness similar to a veggie and a light nutty bit, similar to a hazelnut. It smelled just like carrot cake. She loved carrot cake. It was her brother's favorite so it always made her happy.
Her eyelids fluttered as she slowly opened her eyes. Everything was foggy and hard to make out. She sat up and found she was on an old bed with a large warm quilt on top of her. The old bead creaked as she sat up. It probably felt like her, tired and in pain. Her head hurt a bit and her limbs were stiff from passing out. She lifted the blanket off her and hung her legs over the side of the bead. Her vision slowly cleared and her senses started to work.
She looked around the room quietly observing every detail. The room was old but well maintained. Everything was wooden and old fashioned. The room was practically empty. All there was was the bed with the old quilt, a sturdy wooden dresser, and a small vanity. There were no pictures or decorations. She looked down and noticed she was in an old fashioned dress with light frills. It was simple yet comfy and the fabric was nice. She noticed her old clothes neatly folded on the edge of the bed right by her backpack..
Thorn got up and changed into her outfit that was laid out on the bed. It had been cleaned and the holes mended. It was the same outfit from the third. She never got a chance to change due to the series of unfortunate events that seemed to tail her. She folded the dress neatly and made the bed. She checked the backpack to make sure everything was there, and it was. She brushed her hair, put on her backpack and was ready to go.
The door handle lightly shook and a gentle old lady came walking in.
“Oh! You're awake now are you? You almost took a nasty fall there young one. If not for the wind I never would have found you. And just look at what you did to that outfit of yours. What were you doing running from a monster into this forest here?” The old lady sighed and shook her head as she looked at Thorn. Thorn just stood there for a moment staring in confusion.
“Oh, I apologise for being so rude, my name is Rose Thorn and i'm very sorry to have troubled you. If I may ask, who are you and where am I? And what did you mean if not for the wind?”
“Oh dear, you musnt consern yourself with who I am. I am just a lonely widow who lives in the forest. This is my home. You passed out outside of my home so I brought you here to help you. And haven't you noticed too? The wind has really taken a liking to you.” replied the widow. Thorn just looked at her confused.
“Haven't you noticed the spirit of the wind dying? The wind always follows you. I believe it even led you here. Anyway, why don’t you sit down and I'll make us some coco. That ought to help you relax.
