Chapter 4: The Sorrowful Past

After I handed Luke a napkin to wipe off his tears he started to talk.” My mom died when I was 4 years old from cancer and so I didn't have a mom growing up” I understand his pain because my mom also died when I was at a young age. He continued talking “after a couple of years he remarried another woman that is my stepmom. She was nice at first until my dad died in a car crash 3 years ago. Then my stepmom became my legal guardian and remarried another man with money. He also has a son that is our age. My stepmom started to treat me badly like living in the attic of the house when my step mom's new family moved in letting their new son stay in my room. Also never letting me eat with them only giving me their leftovers” Luke started to shed some more tears I said “It's okay if it's too hard to talk about “ I handed him another napkin Luke started to talk again “ They always give me their new son old stuff never buying me anything I need or want. They're always telling me I'm useless and just leeching off of them and making me do everything in their house and beating me all the time and starving me without a second thought or remorse. I hate where I’m living but I don’t have a choice.” Luke kept on shedding tears. I felt bad for Luke and what he has to deal with “ one of the things that made me even madder is that she didn't even throw a funeral for my dad. My dad is a good man. I don't care how she treats me but she never even throws my dad a funeral because she thought it would be a waste of money. My dad loved that woman and treated her like she was the queen buying everything she wanted and she just disregarded all the things my dad did for her. I said “That woman is wicked how dare she treat you like that and didn't even throw your dad a funeral. Does your dad have any family? Luke said “ he was the only child and his parents died as well and all their inheritance was left to the women for now until I’m 18 I won't get anything that my dad left for me. I just have to deal with them for another 3 years and then I will get my revenge and take everything back that was my dad.“ I was thinking how cruel that woman is and losing both his parents. I was wondering if I can get him a job. Maybe I can ask dad to use his connection to get him an easy job where he can earn money to help him out. Luke said, “Thank you Jason for hearing my story on what happened to me and treating me to a meal.” I said, “No problem buddy you're a friend of mine so if you need any help just come to me.” Luke started to shed some more tears. He said, “ you consider me a friend no one has ever considered me their friend since my dad passed away you're a really kind-hearted person Jason I appreciate it a lot.” It's tragic what happened to him when he said I was kind-hearted he really meant it luke is truly a good person that had a horrible past.”Hey, luke do you want me to get you an easy job that you can work” Luke said, “ are you sure anyone will want to hire me.” “Don't worry about that I got some connection that will help?” Luke said, “Thank you. I will take you up on your offer. I really appreciate your kindness ” I looked at my watch and realized that we need to go back to class. “Let's go back to class before we're late.”
