E-4 On Stage and Off Screen

Soon after that day, our lives changed vastly, but not drastically. We knew this day would come eventually. In the mornings whenever I woke up, I saw some porridge, or biscuits are there for me on the table. Mum surely have gone outside to find jobs, and I had to get ready for my school. I was an average student since my first day of the school, but I started studying hard, very hard those days. Sometimes I fasted, resulting passing out in school. Somehow I prevented my teachers from calling my mother for my bad health. But all of them were surprised as hell, when I stood top in my class. I think they didn't expect a normal student like me would achieve this. But I just knew I had too, and thus I recieved special scholarship for a year.

- May I come in Mam?

- Oh dear , of course! I never expected you were so determined to get that scholarship! anyways, congratulations!

-Thank you Mam.

- Now, the reason I have called you. You know you scored a record marks, no one in this school so far has gotten a total percentage of ninety nine so far! Sign up the form, my little genius! For the next three years, you will get free education! And lastly , we will hold the annual prize distribution ceremony of this school next week. Make sure you are present there.

- Thanks a lot, Mam. I really appreciate it.

- No need to thank me. You got what you deserved! Now go back to your class, I am coming in a while.

- Ok mam.

Apparently, some people were not so happy for my success. After I returned to my desk, I saw my notebooks were ripped to pieces. Scribblings in red ink were all over my desk. My school bag was thrown to dustbin. Someone left a note for me also.

"Lucine Scott, you bloody b**h, what did you think? You can never steal my spotlight! So I am putting you to your real place, in the dustbin! Die , you damn girl! This will be the fist and last time you stand first in class, cause who can read without their textbooks? Serves you right for provoking me**!

" Actually, How many boys are you roaming with that you got the best notes? You are really talented , compared to your looks!"

"Die! Bitch, you don't deserve to live!"

"Die! Die***!"

That moment, I exactly didn't know what happened to me. All I could hear was the smirk and giggling of the writers, and some even calling me pretentious pathetic dustbin. I...was loosing my sight....Then...

- She isn't very healthy, for your information. It's been so many days she has lost consciousness. She isn't eating welll andd there's a lot of stress going through her head. Please take better caree of her, for God's sake. She's the future genius of our school.

- I understand, Madame. It's all my fault. I promise it will never happen again.

Mum!

I immediately sat up. I am in the school infirmary. And I was sure I heard the voices of Headmistress and mum! They had called her without my permission! How dare they! They....they will never understand what she is going through...And they are putting her into more trouble! It's.... it's my fault... Had I not existed, mum wouldn't had to go with all this bu***it**!

I continued feeling unnecessary amount of guilt, untill mum stepped in my room.

- Lulu, my child, my dear, what have you done to yourself?! My fault... I was crazy about finding a job rather taking care of you***

...I have never noticed how sick you look within some months... It's my fault... I'm sorry...

Because of mum's words, my guilt feeling increased ten times. Genius my foot, they are just using me to increase their popularity! And the top students....wait .....

A thought struck in my head like a lightning.

- Mum, if this year, I stood first, what's the score of Stephanie Irving, formerly the best student of my class?
