Perish
"DON'T YOU WORRY!!" Solliana screamed through the horde gathered beneath her, complaining that her knowledge of time is just a fantasy, and that she will only get herself into more trouble once she really gets into the time machine that she has spent her whole 5 years of work on. The crowd silenced, for they have never heard Solliana yell before. "I'll show you all how wrong you are! The years I've spent on this machine will not be wasted!" The mob got loud again, and Solliana could feel the rush of anger swirling and colliding together, forming inside her head. With the blood rushing in her ears, she stepped into the time machine. Just for a second, she hesitated. What if what they said is true? What if I really wasted my time on this and it doesn't turn out right?
But just in that second, a piercing screech passed through the air, and, with a puff of cloud, the door began closing. Solliana stood frozen inside the machine. This is it.. She thought. The people below began screaming and she caught a glimpse of her brother running towards her, yelling for her to get out. Her mind was filled with question as her brother made a grab for her. A sentence of words whisked past her as Heral yanked her outside. "TRANSPORTING TO 9986"
The timeline I chose wasn't-- Before she could snap back to realization, someone charged out of the crowed and pushed her brother aside. As his hands left her shirt collar, she grasped at her conciousness and swung around to see who smacked him when a force landed on her chest and she was sent stumbling back into the machine. The last face she saw before striking the wall of the macine was the dreadful face of Rakeral, the girl who she had hated and tried to avoid for all her life.
(From now on out, this novel will be taken from Solliana's POV)
"AHHHHHHH"
I shot bolt upright. I panted and looked around. The only sign that everything happened was the fresh pain in my chest that couldn't stop aching. "Uggggghh" I groaned, and rubbed the spot gently. I lifted my shirt to check the wound, and when I did, I almost panicked. Right there on my chest, was a huge black purple pit. I let go of my shirt and started crying.
ILL KILL HER!!! I vowed.
Will you, now. A voice sounded in my head. Or was it?
Startled, I looked around. Nothing was there but sand and a weird looking wooden box.
Do not worry, I am only a system planted in your brain to prevent you from dieing. What? Let's see what you would think of time after this. I don't understand. You will soon. But first, let's all gift you with a present you will not like. What gift? What present?
Despair.
I closed my eyes and tried to shut it out, only to remember that it's in my brain, not in the sound waves floating around me. Was my trust and belief in time really wrong?!
