Blake Steps In

[Keep this with you at all times, okay Maya.]

[What is it?]

[It’s an amulet. It keeps you safe from harm when I’m not around.]

[I’ll keep it close to me, Ziva.]

Maya was swinging her fist like a madman. She kept hitting away at the person below her, Kyle. His face was getting beaten black and blue. His friends, Jess and Robert, were on the ground, passed out. Blake ran to her and pulled her off Kyle. She struggles to get out of his grip as she tries to go after Kyle who had already blacked out. Blake locks her into a grappling pose of the Nelson submission hold. His arm was under her armpit, and hand on the back of her neck.

“Calm down…!” He yelled out to her.

Maya was huffing and puffing for a bit before calming down. Blake examines the scene to figure out what transpired here. He found her GPS ankle on the floor along with her scattered school paper and books. Blake slowly lets go of Maya after confirming that she had finally calmed down. Maya quickly went on her knee and picked something up. 

Soon, the teachers arrived and were shocked at what took place. The teachers were going to gather everyone that was involved in the fight, but Blake stopped them from taking Maya away. They were upset at his intervention until they saw his badge. The principal of the school came out of his office when he heard that the authorities were at the scene. The principal was an old man in his late fifties. He had his grey hair pull back and his eyes were sucked in due to old age. His name was Arthur Himack. 

The school staff excused all the students to leave except for those that were involved, and those that bore witness to the whole thing. Blake could only sigh out annoyed at everything. He wanted to head back and just be lazy on the sofa. He didn’t think that the teenage problem would cause a delay in his lazy routine.

They went into a meeting room that was usually held for the staff. The principal sat at the very top, and the parents that were called in sat at the side. Blake stood up leaning against the wall with Maya sitting next to him. The parents had no idea that Blake was a cop, but that wasn’t on their mind at the moment. They were all just deeply upset at the fact that their children were beaten black and blue by a girl who was on the news as a murderer.

Kyle’s mother, Barba was giving Maya a deadly glare. When the vice-principal gave out a summary of what had happened after asking a few students, she slammed her palm hard on the table. She kept her eyes on Maya, “Well? Either this animal apologizes for laying a hand on my child, or she is to get expelled from school.”

The parents beside her nods in agreement. Blake gave out a yawn. He wishes that this would just end quickly. Barba notices his behavior and sneers at him, “No wonder that child is such an animal, even her uncle acts like a lazy scumbag.”

Blake’s eyebrow twitches at words. He slowly lowered his hand that was covering his hand from his yawn. He wanted to place his hand on his handgun, but Char pops up in head telling him to cool it and not point a gun at a civilian. He reluctantly pulled his hand away from his handgun. Even Arthur could feel the tension coming from Blake and Barba. 

“I could say the same thing to you as well Mrs. Glowker,” said Blake as he lifted his chin up arrogantly.

“What…?!” Barba glares at him.

“Shouldn’t the one who started the problem be punished instead of the one that stood up to them?” said Blake, “From what is said and done, it seems like it's your kids that started this whole thing first.”

“Excuse me?!” Barba was flabbergasted by his words.

Maya’s eyes slightly widen with his words. She didn’t think that he would take her side. Barba stands up from her seat and points at him, “How dare you! Who the hell do you think you are to accuse mine son! No one would believe your words of a murderer over my innocent son!”

Kyle looks at Blake with an arrogant smile. No one in the whole school has ever talked  back or even even against his mother. She was a well influenced business woman in this place. Compared to this man that was standing on Maya’s side, he was going to get crushed and have a hard time living here for incurring his mother’s wrath.

Arthur nods his head in agreement, “My apologies Sir Blake, but what Mrs. Glowker says is reasonable. Besides, for all we know, she could have said something inappropriate to them.”

“So you’re saying that she said something to anger this boy here and his friends for them to attack her?” said Blake.

“Obviously!” Barba yelled out.

“Then, you just admit that the one who threw the first punch was without a doubt your son,” said Blake.

Barba was confused by his words. She glares at him, “Don’t go twisting my words as you please, you scum!”

Blake had enough of this argument. If anyone took a closer look at the scene, anyone could tell that what Maya did was out of self-defense. It was one against three, it would be stupide of her to even start the fight. Char warned Blake that high school was going to be difficult for Maya, but Blake didn’t think that it would be this difficult. He was starting to get annoyed with all of this gibberish.

“Did you just insult me?” Blake asked with a heavy tone.

“And what are you going to do about it,” Barba smirks at him, “Just so you know, I am the wife of the Hardison Glowker, the owner of the FishWay Business! One word from me, and your life here is over!”

The only one who knew that Blake was a police officer was Arthur. He tried to stop this from escalating, but he didn't do the best he could due to the fear of losing his job. He hopes that Blake would just back down and wouldn’t make it difficult for him. The thing is, he should have taken Blake’s side and taken a closer look at the situation before agreeing to be on Barba’s side.

“So your husband is the owner of the famous business FishWay,” said Blake.

“That’s right,” Barba said arrogantly, “Now do you know who you’re dealing with?! Now, you listen to me! For today onward your niece is expelled, and I’ll make your life here a living hell for harming my son! A murderer like her should have just been sent to jail instead of being allowed to walk around here. What in the world were those pathetic police officers thinking, releasing such a dangerous person like that animal…!”

“Pathetic police officers?” said Blake with a dangerous glow in his eyes.

Blake stops leaning against the wall, and walks over to Barba. She took a few steps back thinking that he was going to hit her. Well, she welcomes it! If he so much lay a hand on her, she was going to sue him dry!

CLANK CLANK!

Barba felt something cold around her wrist as she was pinned against the wall with her arm behind her back. She shook in shock, “W-what the! What are you doing!?”

“I’m arresting you for disorderly conduct,” said Blake with a yawn, “And for slander.”

“What?!”

Kyle tried to stop Blake, but he was stopped when Blake flashed his badge for all of them to see. They all gasped in shock. Barba froze when she saw his badge. He tightens the cuffs on her wrist and turns to Kyle, “I’m putting you, and your two friend under arrest as well.”

“WHAT?!” the parents, and the kids yelled out.

Jess' parents stood in front of him. His father spoke out to Blake, “Aren’t you misunderstanding something?”

Blake points at the GPS ankle that was on the table, “The three of them will be arrested for tampering, and removing the ankle bracelet as well as obstructing the ongoing investigation. Do none of you know that it’s illegal to have it removed without having the authorities permission?”

Everyone swallows their saliva. They didn’t think that Blake was a police officer so they just passed over the ankle bracelet. If anything, they could have just pin it on Maya and say that she took it off during the fight. 

“That…” Robert’s father looks at him then back at Blake, “C-can’t we work this out?”

“Work what out?” said Blake, “With all this evidence shoved in my face, surely you’re not telling me to just turn a blind eye to it just to save yourself? Are you trying to bribe a detective?”

A DETECTIVE?!

Blake pulls out his phone and makes a call to his office. Everyone in the room was nervous and sweating scared out of their wits. They not only offended not just a police officer but a detective and even damaged the ankle bracelet. This wasn’t going to turn out well for them. Moments later, a police car came and took the four Blake had arrested back to the station. 

Blake gave them a report of what happened as well as the so-called written testimony while showing them the scene of the so-called crime. The policies that came also came to the same

conclusion as Blake and did not deem it to be Maya’s fault for causing this incident. 

Maya was in Blake’s car as they drove back to his house after everything was settled. He got out of his car and waited for Maya to get out as well. But she just sat there in the shotgun seat. He knocks on the window, “You getting out or not? I want to go into my house you know.”

Maya finally lifts her head to look at him. She opens the car door and gets out. Blake turns around and unlocks the door to his house. Just as he was about to step in, he felt his jacket tug behind him. Blake turns around, “What…?”

Maya moved her mouth but nothing came out. Blake narrows his eyes at her, “I’m freezing out here. Hurry up so we can go in.”

Maya turns her head to the side, “Thank… You…”

Blake’s house key slips out from his hand, “What…?”

“...Thank you…” Maya said again, “For earlier… Thank you…”
