Y/LN refers to your last name/family name
Previously…
“You,” The officer says turning to face Jimin and Jimin freezes, pure horror settling onto his features. “Come out. You’ve got a visitor.”
Jimin scrambles to his feet and almost runs out of the cell. He breathes out a sigh of relief when the officer slaps on the handcuffs again. He’d never thought he’d be glad to feel the cold metal on his wrist again.
*******
The officer guides Jimin to the interrogation room once again and Jimin feels his heartbeat finally return to its normal pace. Jimin hoped that the officer would let him stay in the room a little longer considering that it was probably his lawyer who had come to see him.
The officer uncuffs Jimin and Jimin strolls in the room. He glances at the young man before him and approaches the chair cautiously. That’s not my lawyer.
Jungkook quickly rises to his feet and bows slightly at Jimin.
“Hi, Jimin,” He says timidly. “I-I’m Jungkook.”
“Yes, I recognize you,” Jimin replies with a smile. “How did you get in here? I thought they only allow family or lawyers,” He whispers.
“I… I called in a favour,” He whispers in return. He clears his throat before beginning, “Look Jimin, I want you to know that I wasn’t part of any of—“
“I know,” Jimin interrupts. “Your father and brother dealt with me directly, so…”
He felt an overwhelming sense of need to bombard Jimin with questions about you. If you had said where you were going or if you looked alright. You, you, you but he knew that would do him no good. He still needed to figure out how to convince you of his innocence.
“Jimin, you have to tell me what’s going on because I’m so lost and everything’s kind of just… going wrong so please,” Jungkook begs.
Jimin lets out a deep sigh. “Basically your family has dirt on me and used it against me to try to access the factory floorplans for Y/LN Logistics,” He explains. “Diadem was the security code in place to keep the plans safe. So, they somehow figured out that Y/N knew the code and hoped that you did. They got the code, I entered it, things went wrong and here we are,” Jimin says all in one breath.
The two of them sit in silence for a while as Jungkook attempts to process everything he just heard.
“Okay, wait… okay… but do you know a guy named Hoseok? That Y/N dated once but I mean I found out he also—“
Hoseok? Why does that name sound so familiar? Then it clicks. Hoseok.
“You mean Jung Hoseok? The one that works for your father?” Jimin asks.
“Yeah, how did you know?”
“Wait what does he have to do with this?”
“He sent Y/N this altered voice clip of me saying—“
“Of course it was him. Sly fox, meddling with her life again,” Jimin says while shaking his head.
Jungkook gives Jimin a puzzled look. “What do you mean again?”
“Long story short, back then when he was dating Y/N, he was only doing it to get information out of her.”
“Wow and I thought I couldn’t possibly hate him more than I already do.”
“I saw how… broken she looked when she played that clip for me. If I do get out of here, I’m going to make sure Hoseok gets what he deserves,” Jimin states adamantly.
Jungkook frowns when he hears about you. Jimin had given him the answers he was looking for but he still had no way to prove to you that the clip had been altered.
Noticing the frown on his face, Jimin speaks up.
“Hey look, don’t worry too much about it. I tried telling her it was altered and…” Jimin moves closer to whisper, “I may or may not have illegally obtained recordings of your family’s dinner conversation which I told her to go listen to.”
Jungkook jumps out of his seat. “And you’re telling me this now? Where is it? Where is she?”
“In my defense, you asked me to explain the whole situation to you first.”
“Fine, fair enough but please just tell me where she is now,” Jungkook says as he seats himself back down in the chair. “Please,” he begs.
You park your truck outside the cozy townhouse that belongs to Jimin and his family. You wait in your truck for a little while to make sure that the sneaky paparazzi weren’t hiding in the bushes. When the coast was clear, you quickly dash to the house and ring the bell. You wait nervously for someone to open the door and finally a middle-aged woman answers the door. She only opens the door slightly to ask who you are.
You bow at the woman and greet her appropriately before introducing yourself. At the mention of your name, she swings the door open and ushers you in hurriedly.
“I’m so sorry about that, it’s just that the media have been hounding us since yesterday and I didn’t want to answer any more questions.”
“Of course, of course. It’s no problem. I completely understand,” You assure her.
“Have you seen him? Jimin?” She asks and you only nod your head.
She moves forwards and hold your hands in hers. “I’m so sorry,” She murmurs, her voice cracking at the end of her sentence and it makes your heart break. “Jimin, he… he’s a good kid. You know that right? He was just trying to help the family and if he hadn’t done that all those years ago, he wouldn’t—“
“I-It’s fine. I understand,” You say as you squeeze her hand. “Please stop apologizing, Mrs. Park,” You say with a smile.
She smiles back at you and slowly pulls her hands away from you to rest it limply at her side. “You know, Jimin always talks about you and how much he loves you as if you were his own sister,” She smiles while looking at you endearingly.
“Ah, does he?” You blush. “He always tells me stories about you and the rest of the family too,” You say. “Sometimes, I get a little bit jealous but all in all I’m grateful that I can call him my brother.”
“There’s no need to be jealous!” She exclaims as she squeezes the side of your arms. “If you are family to him then you are family to us too.”
“Mrs. Park,” You say as you feel happiness swell inside of you. “That means a lot to me, really,” You say as you move to engulf her in a hug. You were quite certain that she would be slightly uncomfortable with hugging someone she basically just met for the first time but this was the first time you felt something remotely close to maternal love. You’ve imagined many times what meeting Jimin’s family for the first time would be like but you had never imagined anything like this. Despite the circumstances, you couldn’t help but feel like this was a moment that you would hold dear for years to come.
After a few more minutes of Mrs. Park assuring you that she meant that you were family and that no, she wasn’t just saying so to make you feel better, you finally give her a light hug before moving onto Jimin’s room.
You took a seat at his desk and booted up his computer. You swiveled around in the chair as you waited for the loading screen to fade away. The screen prompting for his password comes up and you carefully entered each character one by one before pressing enter. Much to your surprise, his files were organized pretty well so you navigated through them easily. You copy the appropriate folder and you email it to yourself. All you had to do was copy it onto a USB when you get home and pass it to Jimin’s lawyer. You hoped that it was enough to get Jimin off the hook because you can’t imagine what jail would do to such a precious soul.
You had done what you needed to and although you told yourself you had no interest in hearing that voice clip Jimin talked about, you find yourself hesitating to shut down the computer. You let out a huff and decide to just get it over with. The cursor hovered over the search bar. You typed in the date that Jimin had advised and scrolled down to the audio file marked 7pm-10pm. You let the cursor rest above the audio file. You weren’t sure if you could handle hearing Jungkook’s voice saying those words again. You took a deep breath and double-clicked on the file. This was the last time you were going to bother thinking about Jungkook. Hearing the full conversation was the closure you needed to push this event into your past.
You hear the sound of static and slight murmuring. After plugging in the headphones you found lying on Jimin’s desk, you turn up the volume.
The sound of Mr. Jeon’s voice nestles in your ears and you press the headphones closer to your ears.
“So, Jungkook… How’s Y/N?” Mr. Jeon questions.
“She’s great, amazing, why?” Jungkook replies.
“Well seems like the two of you are really getting along… so why don’t we get to know her better?”
“So you mean you want me to bring her over or something? To meet you guys?” Jungkook questions his father nervously and you can almost imagine him rubbing his hands together to calm his nerves.
“Before that, just let us know what she’s like I guess…” Another voice cuts in. His brother Junghyun probably. “Like, I don’t know… what’s her favourite island?”
“Ko Lipe!” Jungkook exclaims excitedly. “Which is mine too coincidentally.”
“Look at that, it’s like you’re made for each other,” Junghyun says. “What’s her favourite animal then?”
“Dogs, she loves dogs. Especially her dog, Buster! You should all meet him. I swear you’ll love him too,” Jungkook says giddily and you can definitely tell that he’s drunk just by how excited he sounds. He sounded like the Jungkook you knew and you smiled a little that. You were starting to think that maybe, just maybe something was off.
You concentrate on the audio clip and increase the volume again. You hear Jungkook talking about how much he loved diadem and then about you. Sentence after sentence of all the things he liked about you.
She’s so beautiful, she is. I try not to stare sometimes but I can’t help myself and I may or may not have taken way too many photos of her when she isn’t looking my way.
She has so much passion… whenever she puts her mind to something, she’d see it all the way through and I’ve always admired that.
She’s gorgeous even when she’s dressed in her sweats and focusing entirely on her wood carving pieces. I don’t think that’s fair… like she can’t be pretty all the time but somehow she is…
Also, don’t let that 4 fool you! Don’t tell her I told you but I think she might be smarter than me.
Have you heard her laugh? I swear it could cure cancer.
Sometimes she’s so busy thinking about others that she forgets to take the time to take care of herself. What an idiot… but she’s my idiot, my favourite idiot.
She’s just amazing… you know?
You feel your heart lurch in your chest as you hear Jungkook drunkenly spew his thoughts. You’re blushing so hard and if you were there that night, you would’ve dragged him out of the room before he even got to start his second sentence. You would always tell Jungkook to stop when he got too cheesy. You told him you hated it but you know and he knows that you secretly loved it. He loved the way your cheeks would immediately turn rose red when he gave you flowers or called you beautiful. He loved the shy smile you always tried to hide from him by replacing it with a scowl. Now, you definitely feel like perhaps Jungkook was telling the truth and now your heart’s a mess. You didn’t know what to feel anymore.
“Ah, our little Jungkookie is in love isn’t he? Don’t worry. If I were your age, I’d be with Y/N too,” You hear Junghyun say and you snap back into focus.
“Except for an entirely different reason,” Jungkook says and you can hear the anger dripping from his voice.
“Information,” Junghyun simply states.
You close your eyes, almost as if to brace yourself for what’s about to come next.
“I’m just not that kind of person. I can’t do that… I can’t imagine myself pretending to like her just so I can get information out of her,” Jungkook states adamantly.
“That’s why I’m vice president of the company and you’re not even on the payroll,” Junghyun says.
Wait.
You rewind the clip.
“I’m just not that kind of person. I can’t do that… I can’t imagine myself pretending to like her just so I can get information out of her.”
Then you hit rewind again and again to hear that sentence over and over. It’s perhaps the 10th time that you finally hit pause. After the initial shock, you finally feel an overwhelming sense of happiness take over. He was telling the truth. It was all real. You & him, what you have is real. Well, had…
You replay last night in your head and you wish you could take back the toxic words that you had screamed at him. You wished you never pushed him away. If only you listened, it would have saved the both of you the heartache. What do you do now? You were never really good with confrontation and discussing feelings. You were certain you would trip up all over your words. Would he even want to talk to you after you told him that he was dead to you?
You feel your phone vibrate in your pocket and you pull it out.
Incoming call
Jungkook
Your almost swipe to answer the call but you couldn’t bring yourself to answer. You were sure you wouldn’t be able to speak if you had answered it anyway. This was something you were good at. Running away from your problems… it’s all you’ve ever done your whole life. You either ran away from them or swept them under the rug. It always worked for you and this time would be no exception you hoped. You feel your heart thumping in your chest as you look at the screen. You hastily shove your phone back into your pocket. You needed to get out of Jimin’s house, you concluded. Needed to get some air and to just think all of this through. You put your phone back in your pocket and switched off Jimin’s computer.
You bid Jimin’s mother goodbye and you promise that you would do anything you can to make sure that Jimin wouldn’t have to go to jail. She thanks you profusely and doesn’t let you leave until you take the sandwiches she was shoving into your hands. You reluctantly agree and then she gives you a light hug.
You check the streets for any lurking strangers before dashing for your car. You let out a deep sigh as you finally settle into your car seat. You start the engine and drive down the street towards nowhere in particular. It was all just too much to take in and you needed time to think or maybe just wallow around in regret.
Seated in the back seat of the cab, Jungkook calls you again. “Pick up, please, Y/N,” He says aloud.
The number you have dialed—
He presses the call again option. It must’ve been the 5th call in less than 10 minutes. He looks at his watch and figures that you must have heard the audio clip by now or maybe you had decided not to listen to it because you were stubborn like that. He tells the cab driver to step on it and the driver obliges.
Jungkook glances at the address on his phone then back at the house in front of him. He’s at the right place but your car is nowhere in sight and he hopes that maybe you took a cab here too. He steps up to the front door and rings the bell. He sees the door open slightly and tries to peek into the house.
“We’re not doing anymore interviews, just please leave us alone,” Mrs. Park says as she moves to close the door.
“Wait!” Jungkook exclaims as he shoves his foot between the door and the frame. “I-I’m Jimin’s… friend. Is Y/N in there?”
Mrs. Park opens the door fully to have a better look at the young man at her doorstep. His eyebrows are furrowed and the expression on his face was somewhere between scared and hopeful. Whatever it was, his face was filled with genuine emotion so she concludes that he can’t possibly be with the media.
Now that Jungkook has a clear view of the woman behind the door, he quickly bows at her respectfully before greeting her properly. “Mrs. Park, I’m sorry for bothering you like this but is Y/N in here?”
“No, she left not too long ago.”
Jungkook curses under his breath. “Um, did she say where she was going?”
“No, sorry she didn’t. Maybe you should just give her a call,” Mrs. Park suggests.
Yes, I’ve been doing that.
“Ah, yes I will do that. Sorry for um showing up without notice. Thank you, Mrs. Park,” Jungkook says as he bows once again before walking away.
Now what?
He tries calling you again
The number you have dialed—
Jungkook lets out a sigh before calling for a cab again. He needed to get his car so he could drive around until he is certain that he had been down every single street, looked into every alleyway and scoured every single inch of this city for you.
You didn’t have to look at the caller ID on your phone to know that it was Jungkook who was calling. You could feel your hands begin to tremor whenever you think of what you were going to say to Jungkook. You decided that in this condition, you just wouldn’t be able to talk to him. You were afraid of how this conversation would turn out. You didn’t have to worry, you think. Jungkook had always been extremely understanding and this time would be noo different but you couldn’t help but think what if… what if the conversation doesn’t turn out as you hoped and it all goes sour. You place your phone back in your pocket to buy yourself some more time. Once again running away from him, from your problems, like you always did.
You parked your car and walked towards the bench where you had sat at with Jungkook just some months ago. You sat down on the bench and put the sandwiches that Mrs. Park had handed to you on your lap. You unwrap one and took a large mouthful before shutting your eyes. You tried to calm your thoughts and forget momentarily everything that seemed to be plaguing you. Your phone continued to vibrate in your pocket but you were on a mission to forget, on a mission to escape.
Sitting in his black sedan, Jungkook comes up with a mental list of where you would be. He decides to drive by your family home first, just in case you were there although he felt that would be the least likely place you would be at. Then to your favourite spots in the city you had told him about. Your favourite coffeeshop that you claim sells the best red elvet cake on this Earth, that one store that sells an ungodly amount of bath gels and then the secondhand bookstore that you loved the smell off. Along the way, he kept his eyes peeled for you and your car. His heart almost stops beating every time he spots a beat-up pick-up truck. He knew the chances of just seeing you on the street was unlikely but with no clue of where you could be, he could only hope that somehow he’d find you.
After an hour of searching, the list dwindles to the last two items with the last one being the park where he had confessed to you. He didn’t think you would be there because you were probably trying to run from everything that reminded you of him. So as he kicked the pebbles while walking towards the bench that he has come to love, he tried thinking of more places that you could possibly be at. Then, he sees the silhouette of a woman sitting at the bench and he stops himself from running towards the bench. He frantically fishes his phone out of his pocket and calls your number. The dial tone begins and he sees the woman feel around her pocket.
You pull your phone out of your pocket and you let out a sigh, thumb hovering over the screen once again. Your thumb fidgets as you internally battle between picking up and letting it go to voicemail again. Before you make up your mind, the call had ended and your lockscreen lights up.
Missed Calls
Jungkook (41)
You sigh. You didn’t know why you were so afraid of talking to him. He wasn’t even here but you felt the words getting stuck at your throat and tears welling up in your eyes.
“Y/N.”
Your heart stops beating for a second and you gulp nervously. That voice, the one that you dread yet long to hear.
“J-Jungkook,” You reply wide-eyed in shock and it takes you a moment before you scoot further down the bench, away from him.
He gestures towards the space next to you and you nod weakly. You can feel his eyes on you but you can’t bring yourself to look at him. “Sandwich?” you offer, still looking straight ahead, doing anything to avoid eye-contact.
“Sure, thanks,” Jungkook says as he grabs it from you and you know he’s staring at you, imploring you to look at him but you’re too afraid.
“Babe, will you look at me please.”
You already felt yourself welling up with tears and you can’t even explain to yourself why you’re being like this. You want to look at him and tell him you’re sorry you doubted him but your usually articulate self has seemed to have left you completely along with any rationality that you previously had.
He gets off the bench to crouch in front of you and he places his palms on your knees.
“Please?” He says again, rubbing circles onto your knees with his thumbs and your eyes flit up to meet his.
“There we go,” He says as you both hold eye contact. He smiles at you and you can’t help the tears that fall from your eyes.
“I’m sorry,” You barely whisper.
“Y/N, why are you…” Jungkook stops midsentence to wipe away your tears. “Please, stop crying. I think we did enough of that last night.”
“My fault,” You manage to choke out between sobs.
“No, no, no,” Jungkook says as he holds your hand. “It isn’t your fault.”
You try to form a sentence but you’re sobbing so hard so most of it is intelligible anyway but Jungkook catches the tail end of your sentence.
“… don’t deserve you.”
“Why would you think that? Y/N stop saying stuff like that, please.”
He waits for you to reply but you only sob harder.
“I saw Jimin today. He told me he told you to listen to the clip which I think you did because you aren’t screaming at me right now,” He laughs then he sees your frown deepen and he uses his thumb to stroke your cheeks lovingly.
You nod your head and you look towards the ground. You open your mouth to speak but everything comes out all choppy as your sobs interrupt you every few syllables. “I-I heard it and I-I’m sorry about the t-thing I said l-last night –“
He stands up and he lifts you up off the bench and on to your feet before hugging you tightly.
“I said, it’s fine. I probably would’ve said the same things.” He whispers while holding you tighter. “It sounded so real and I don’t blame you at all for anything, okay?” He says as he pulls away to look at you.
“Last night, I really didn’t mean anything I—“
“I know, babe. Now, stop looking away and look at me.”
You look at him momentarily before resting your head on his chest again. The both of you stand there locked in each other’s embrace for a few too many minutes before you pulled away to speak up.
“I was scared…” You admit.
“Of what?”
“Scared that you would… say we’re over or—“
“You thought I called you 41 times because I urgently needed to break up with you?”
You scowl at him and he only smiles in return.
“I mean…. It’s… I was just scared okay…” You murmur.
“Okay,” He replies as he leaves a light kiss on your forehead. “Still think you’re a little crazy if you think I’d ever let a catch like you slip away from me.”
You could feel blood rush to your cheeks and you burrowed you face in his chest.
“Ah, babe are you blushing already? But I was just getting started!” He says teasingly.
You groan at his teasing and Jungkook simply hugs you tighter. You know more than anyone that Jungkook probably was a human bag full of conflicting emotions right now but here he was cracking jokes just to see you smile. That’s just how he was, always putting you and your emotions before anything or anyone else. Of course, there was more to be said and to be talked about but this right here was enough for him for now. To hold you again was all he needed for now. You sniffled and he could feel your tears once again soaking his shirt. Jungkook stands there caressing you, swaying you from side to side while he shushes you and tells you for what must be the 100th time that he forgives you. You couldn’t help but still feel guilty for the whole ordeal yesterday. It was not something the both of you could just forget overnight but that didn’t matter. You weren’t going anywhere and neither was Jungkook. He has his eyes and heart set on you and it would take more than just this to change his mind. In fact, he thinks nothing can.
Jungkook was taking this a whole lot better than you would if the tables were flipped. You were undeniably grateful for the fact that he was a patient man and one that forgives (a little too easily you think). You know it would take a little while for everything to fall back into place but as he peppers you with light kisses, you think that it’ll all be alright in the end. You think that perhaps you didn’t have to run anymore.
Months later
Your relationship with Jungkook returned to its normalcy in a much shorter time than you had expected. The both of you had decided to distance yourselves from your families. It was difficult for the both of you to say that it was okay to admit that they were toxic people and even if you both loved them very much, it was perhaps better to live apart this way. Despite all of that and all of the time since the incident, you were still always very cautious around him but he assured you many times that
1. He forgives you
2. He’s not leaving you
3. If you said sorry one more time, he was going to toss you into the lake.
You even baked him fudge brownies for weeks on end until he begged you to stop because he could feel himself packing on the pounds from constantly munching on them.
With each month came many firsts and all of which you were both very proud of. There was that one day you had pleaded for Jungkook to teach you about the investment world and to help you set up your very own trading account. Despite his busy schedule, he said yes without any hesitation and he advised you on what to buy in tech sector. You looked up at him in awe and nodded your head at every sentence. There it was, your passion to learn about anything and everything and it reminded him so much of why he was glad that he could call you his.
Your first dividend paycheck came in through the mailbox and you leapt into the living room and onto the couch where he had been laying down on.
$10.00 the cheque had read and you were bubbling with excitement. Jungkook couldn’t help but laugh at how you were overjoyed with just earning $10.00 when you’ve seen many times how the dividends that Jungkook receives are possibly 100x more than that.
“You have to appreciate the little things in life okay?” You said snarkily and Jungkook only nods. He loved how you always brought him back down to Earth with your humbleness. He appreciated you and everything that you were.
“Should we frame it up then?”
“Obviously! This is my greatest achievement and it’s all thanks to you babe,” You say as you leave a light kiss on his cheek.
After seeing you finish another large wood carving piece, Jungkook finally gathered the courage to ask you to teach him how to make a simple wood carving piece. He had slid into the corner of the living room shyly before asking you and you laughed how he seemed so flustered. After a few hours and many mistakes, Jungkook produced his first wood craving piece, a less than satisfactory wooden figurine of Buster. He held it out looked at it and before you could take a good look, he quickly hid it behind his back. He was good at almost everything and it hurt him that he wasn’t good at this because he wanted to impress you.
“Let me see it!”
“No, it’s…. too ugly.”
“Fine,” You huff out opting to place your hands on his waist. You slid your hands towards his back and snatched the figurine away from him.
“No, Y/N, please! It’s really bad and I can do better, I promise.”
You observe the figurine, and this wooden reiteration of Buster is clearly misshapen but it was made with the hands of a man that you had decided you simply cannot live without.
“It’s not bad… pretty good for a first-timer,” You say as you move the figurine around to examine it.
“You liar. Y/N, you’re a really bad liar you know that right?”
You let out a giggle and even if Jungkook has heard it many times now, it still makes his heart melt every time. You place the figurine next to the one that you had gifted to Jungkook after your first real encounter with him. You were so glad that Jungkook had decided to try making one. It felt nice that he was interested in something that brought you joy, something you considered to be your passion.
“Y/N, please you can’t put it next to yours. It’s like you want to torture me.”
“That I do,” You say with a smirk and he frowns. You step closer to him and use your fingers to fix his mouth into a smile. “I put it there because it’s cute and I love it okay?”
“Mmm, so should I put myself there too then? Since both those things apply to me?”
You look away, blushing and Jungkook is glad that even after all this time, he still has that effect on you. 1,2,3 he counts mentally and there it is, your signature scowl. He smiles because he knows you only scowl to hide that smile from him.
“You disgust me.”
“Deny it all you want, but I know the truth,” He says teasingly and you scowl at him again. He lets out a hearty laugh as he wraps his arms around you while you try to slip out form his hold.
There were many firsts that came before and after those two. There were many firsts that you two had enjoyed together in between but there was one that Jungkook can’t help but smile when he thinks about it.
He had had a particularly stressful week at work and he came home to a home-cooked meal of his favourite dishes. You vaguely knew your way around the kitchen but even he knew a meal like this must’ve meant that you had slaved away at the kitchen for hours. He made sure to eat every single thing, down to the last drop.
You washed the last few dishes as Jungkook took a quick shower. After putting on some fresh clothes, Jungkook makes his way to the kitchen. He stands behind you, just watching you hum and sway about as you wash the dishes. He was completely in love with you and he had no doubt in his mind that you were the one. You had the ability to change his mood just by smiling, your touch could simply wipe away all his worries and problems. Every time he pictured the future, there was always one constant and that was you. When he was with you, nothing else mattered and he wondered if he ever made that clear to you. He wondered if you knew how much you truly meant to him. Second only to his mother, you were the person he held the most dear to his heart.
You were just about done when you felt his hands snake around your waist and you smiled to yourself.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?” You reply nonchalantly.
“Thank you,” He whispers as he rests his chin on top of your head.
You let out a hum as if to say that it was no big deal.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
Your hands stop moving and you almost feel the plate slip out of your hands. He grabs the plate out of your hand to set it down and switches off the tap. He spins you around and you looked at him in pure shock.
“Jungkook we talked about—“
“I know, Y/N. You’ve told me you think that the word love is thrown around way too much and I know you don’t want me to say it because you think it’ll ruin what we have but I can’t not say it,” He smiles while caressing your face.
“I… I just, I—“
“You don’t have to say it back or anything. You can even forget that I said it to you but I just had to say it… I just had to let you know how I feel about you.”
“Thank you,” you whisper as you tiptoe to plant a chaste kiss on his lips. He leans down to capture your lips between his. He felt as if a weight had lifted off his shoulders. Whether you loved him or not, didn’t really matter to him. He was happy here with you and that was all that mattered. You were glad that Jungkook respected you and your decision not to say it back. You sighed thinking to yourself about how lucky you were to have someone as patient as him, someone who took the time to understand you and all of your quirks.
The both of you went on with your days as usual even after Jungkook’s confession. It played in the back of your head a lot. It’s not that you didn’t want to say it back, it was just that you were scared.
Jungkook swears that for the past week or so just as he’s drifting off to sleep, he hears you whispering something. He’s not too sure what it is because he’s often too tired to pull himself out of sleep to ask you to repeat yourself. Then, in the morning he forgets all about it until it happens again and in that moment he thinks about how he’s felt himself being in this same situation before.
Jungkook opens the bedroom door to find you all cozy under the covers with a book in hand. You perk up as he strolls over to you to peck you on the cheek. You can see that he’s obviously drained from what must’ve been a tiring day at work but he still manages to smile and talk to you as if he wasn’t. That was just who he was, trying his best to be perky, never wanting to worry you but you always worried about him anyway.
After changing out of his work clothes, he slips under the covers and pulls you close to him. You move to try to set the book down but he tells you to continue reading until you finish the chapter because he knows how you hate stopping midway. You do not object the idea and honestly it still surprises you how he knows all these little things about you. Things you’ve never said out loud explicitly.
When you’re done with the chapter, you hear Jungkook’s breathing slow down and you look at him to see that he’s fast asleep now. You set the book down and turn off the lights. The moonlight filtering in through the window lights up his features and you look in awe at the man lying beside you. So lucky, you think to yourself. He was your everything, your rock, your happiness and all that you’ve ever needed.
“Jungkook,” You whisper.
No reply.
“Jungkook, are you awake?” You ask and this time you even prod him just to make sure.
Still, no reply.
You place your palm on his cheek and use your thumb to stroke him lovingly. You settle your head down on the pillow and scoot closer to him. You take in a deep breath to steady yourself.
“I love you,” You whisper.
You’ve been doing this every other night. You thought that maybe it’d help you gain the courage to say it out loud but still you felt too scared to say it out loud to him when he was awake.
You back away in horror as you see the edge of Jungkook’s lips curl up into a smile and his dark orbs glowing back at you with happiness. Frantically, you try to crawl out from under the sheets but his hands grab you to lock you in place.
“What’s that babe?” He asks with a smirk.
“N-nothing, it’s nothing,” You say as you try to escape from his hold.
He holds you closer and plants a kiss on your forehead.
“That’s alright, I heard it loud and clear,” He smiles, planting a light peck on your lips.
You groan inwardly. You were so embarrassed and you were sure your cheeks were practically glowing red now. You simply shut your eyes and try to forget that all of this even happened.
“Y/N?”
“Y-yeah?”
“I love you too.”
You bury your face in your pillow to hide the fact that you were smiling so widely and that you were blushing even harder than before if that was possible. He circles his arms tightly around your waist to pull you close and your body fits against his perfectly. He whispers i love you again and again and you bring your hand up to attempt to swat him away. He finally stops, resting his chin on top of your head and hugs you tightly. You smile to yourself because you know now that you have no need to run anymore. Whenever something is troubling you, you know that Jungkook would always be there for you. You are no longer alone and afraid, you have no more demons to run from. You love him thoroughly. Every single inch of him. Every flaw & every quality for he is your escape.
