The Dinner Part 4

We had lunch and we thought that we will continue working tomorrow because it is very hot. But my stepfather said that we would go back after eating. While we are walking towards the farm I talked to my sister, "Sister it's so hot, it's good to sleep."

"Okay you can just sleep on the farm when we get there." She replied.

It's already 3 in the afternoon my brother said that he was thirsty so we went home to drink water. Before we arrived home my stepfather shouted at us. He scolded us that we go home so early. My sister explained that we are thirsty. My stepfather burst into anger and told us that we are dumb. He said that if we have just brought water with us we wouldn't need to go back home. My mother gave us water and a drinking glass and some bread. She then said that we would eat the bread when we arrive there.

We go back working at the farm.

"If ever our father returned home that time, we should never have to work on farm." My brother said. "And we would be happy with father." He added.

"We are still happy because we still have mother with us." My sister replied.

I saw that my sister is crying and starting to take weeds. We returned home at 4:30 in the afternoon and we saw Angela watching television. We didn't dare to watch the show because we are sure that she will just turn it off. We just watch other kids played outside.

The next morning we bring water with us so that we won't get scolded again. It's almost 11 am because we fare already hungry. But we got scolded by our stepfather. He said that we just keep on watching the time to eat and it is still early to go home for lunch. So we went back to the farm doing nothing. We had lost interest on working because we are hungry. If we got hungry we just get some fruits and eat it. My sister got used on climbing trees because we always stayed on the farm and just go home for meals.

One afternoon my brother was asked by his friends to play basketball. He had done all his work. Then me and my sister is helping our mother to prepare for dinner. It is 6 pm when we take dinner. However my brother still haven't returned home yet. My stepfather closed the door so that my brother can't enter. He didn't plan to let my brother in that time. Later my brother when home and knocked on the door. He called out for mother and sister and me. But our stepfather told him that he cannot go inside because he was roaming around. He also warned that whoever opens the door will also sleep outside. So no one dared to open the door.

I peeked outside to my brother and saw him siting while crying because he wanted to go inside because he is hungry.

"Mom, can we let brother go inside when stepfather went to sleep?" My sister said.

Unfortunately our stepfather heard that and said, "Let him in? For what? To make him arrogant? If you want to sleep outside with your brother I will open the door for you."

My mother kept silent. Everyone went to sleep but me and my sister are still thinking about our brother outside. We gave him quilt because we saw that he is felt cold and is bitten by mosquitoes. We also gave him food for him to eat.

The next day, we waked up early because our stepfather is scolding my brother. He instructed my brother to do his tasks. After we take our breakfast I sit on the couch and watch television. I get the remote and changed the channel. But suddenly Angela take the remote from me and said, "Why would you change the channel? Is it your television? If it will be damaged can you pay it? Go to farm now if you don't want me to tell my father that you are slacking off."

My sister then take me and we went to the farm. From that time we didn't touch any appliances on that house, especially that television because Angela would be angry.

The classes are starting and we are all exited. Our stepfather bought clothes, bags, shoes, and notebooks for Angela. His father is busy sizing her clothes while we are just watching on the side hoping that we also get something but we didn't. Our mother gave us 10 notebooks, 4 for my sister and 4 for my brother and 2 for me. We don't have new bag, uniforms, and shoes. We all go to school without having new uniform because our stepfather haven't bought for us. Our mother told us that we just wait someday that we can get our new uniform. The bag we used are the old bags we have, luckily it's not damaged yet.

My mother asked Angela if ever she can give us here old uniforms but she declined. Fortunately we have a neighbor that is my mother's friend. She gave us his childrens used uniforms. We used it everyday. We go to school without allowance. One time my stepfather give Angela her allowance I asked my mother if I also have allowance. My mother would say that I can bring a banana if I want. If we ran out of paper and we ask to our mother and when my stepfather would hear it he would say the we ran out of paper quickly.

My mother would say that there are mango and banana. We can ask our classmate to exchange it for papers. Sometimes one of my classmates would buy some fruits. I would be happy because I can buy iced candy.

Few days have passed we heard that our mother got pregnant.

Our stepfather wanted us to move out of the room that we are using. Because he planned that when the child is born, it will stay on the room that we used.

There is a small hut beside that house. That is where the corns are stored. Our stepfather planned to let us stay there. Half of that hut doesn't have floor so he said that we will just put bamboo floor there for us to sleep.

As the time goes by, we are treated much worse. Before we eat the same foods. Now we need to cook our own food. They can always eat better food than us.
