The Dinner Part 1

Year 1999, we are a happy family. My father works at a private company. My mother is a housekeeper and is cooking, making desserts for my father to bring to his work. We are living a comfortable life.

We live in the city, we are happy during Sundays because it's my father's day off. On 7 am we wake up early to go to church. After the mass we would eat on the restaurant then we will stop by the plaza to watch the karaoke contest. In the afternoon we will walk towards the market to buy ingredients for dinner. My father would carry me in his neck, my older brother is held by my father with his right hand while my older sister is held by my mother. We are very happy that time while sitting on the shore eating icecream watching as the sun set.

One day my father was assigned on the next municipality because he was assigned to guard the newly built stablishment there. He told my mother and said that there will be a bonus when he will supervise there temporarily. My mother declined at first but later agreed.

The next morning, my older brother and sister went to school. My father changed his clothes because he will go to his work and my mother prepare for the things my father needs to bring with him.

I played with my doll and I approached my father. "Father, where are you going? Why did you carry a bag?" I asked him.

"I will go to work my child. When I return home I promise that I will buy you a bag and a new doll." He replied.

I smiled and said, " The big doll?"

"Yes, just promise that you will be a good girl and behave well here with your mother. You must help your mother doing house chores." He said.

Then my dad gave me a goodbye kiss, then I noticed that there are tears flowing form my mother's eyes.

Two days had past. We went to the market on noon to buy ingredients for father's favorite dish. We estimated that my father would arive in the evening and we will have dinner together.

It is now 6 in the evening, I stayed behind the door to surprise my father when he enter our house. My older sister is studying while my older brother is watching a movie. My mother is busy cooking our dinner. It is already 7 in the evening but my father still dodn't arrive. I got tired waiting for my father to return home. I heard my older sister ask my mother, "Mother why father hasn't arrived yet?" My mother replied, "Maybe they have to stop over somewhere or you father went to their office. We just need to wait for him longer."

It's already 8 in the evening but my father still hasn't returned home. The food that my mother prapared for dinner gone cold. I am already sleepy so my mother decided that we will have dinner first.

Mother told us that maybe my father hadn't drove home this afternoon and will drive home tommorrow morning. My mother told us not to go to school to meet our father.

In the next morning, we prepared early so that we can meet my father. But my father still haven't arrived. We take breakfast and my mother decided to visit my father's workplace because maybe my father got his duty extended.

We arrived at my father's workplace but also his workmates are puzzled why my father hasn't returned home yet. I didn't hear what my mother and my father's workmate are talking because we are left in the canteen, but I can see that my mother is really worried.

My older brother asked my mother, "Mother, why is father not here?"

"Maybe your dad drove early in the morning and is already at home now." My mother replied.

We really hope that father is waiting for us in our house.

So we returned home. We didn't see his shoes outside. My older sister opened the door but it is locked. It indicates that my father hasn't returned home yet. My mother tlld us that we should clean our house because my father might return on noon. My father might be buying toys right now. So we started cleaning our house so that we can show to father that we are behaving well while he is not around and he will give us rewards.

It's already afternoon, my mother brought us to the market to buy ingredients for dinner, my mother is still hoping that my father can return home this night. The dinner is ready, we prepared everything, only my father is missing. My sister is reading books while my brother is playing video games and I am always watching outside waiting for a shadow of my father.

But it's already past 8 in the evening, my fathet still didn't return home. We eat dinner while being worried about my father. I can see my mother is worried and afraid. But my mother said to us calmly, "Maybe it's raining hard there and there are no transport, that's why he haven't rode home yet. We hust need to wait for him tommorrow."

During the night, as we are sleeping my mother suddenly cried. We wondered why she sat down and cried heavily. He opened the door and he shouted the name of my father. It is raining that time, "Ralph where are you? I opened the house door. Where are you? Come here inside. Ralph tell me where are you." My mother shouted while tears kept on flowing on her face. A few moinutes later, our neighbors went to our house because they are worried what happened to my mother.

After that my mother told us why she acted like that. She said that she dreamed that my father was outside our house. But my father can't go inside because the door is locked. Then my mother saw in her dream that my father is wet from that heavy rain and my father asked my mother to open the door while crying. So that is why my mother waked up.
