Adventurer’s Guild

In front of him stood a three storied building which had big ‘Adventurer’s Guild’ written on its front wall. He could not read this language at all but whenever he took a look at these words, he could understand the meaning of these words. It was definitely some other beneficial feature of the system but unfortunately it did not work when there were too many words.

This big name on the building helped him find this guild very quickly as there were many building in this area. There were even big weapon shops which looked like they were made out of gold; it showed how much they might be earning through selling weapon. But of course, he was not here to check weapons as he didn’t even have single copper coin, which was the lowest currency in this world.

Chu Feng entered the adventurer’s guild; but he didn’t get to see what he had expected. In fact, it was even disappointing for him as there was not much crowd in the main hall where he was standing. There were only a few people standing at the reception counter, which could be counted on fingers. Only thing that was eye-catching was that these people were wearing extremely high quality of armor and had shining swords, badass looking staffs in their hands. People who had staffs in their hand were definitely mages who could use magic.

Chu Feng had just arrived in this world so he was quite curious about the magic but he didn’t know how to start conversation with these people. He was used to stay alone for a long time when he was on the Earth so he had nearly forgotten how to hold casual conversation with people. After he had returned home to Yan Lan and Yan Yanran, he could hold normal conversation with them but maybe he was just too used to talk to them so he did not notice his problems.

He actually didn’t have any problem whenever he had contact with other girls too so he thought he had no communication issues but now he knew he could not even start a conversation to other people who were stranger to him, especially men.

Chu Feng walked to the reception counter; all the receptionists here were girls and quite beautiful at that but recalling the Zhou Jun’s face from the morning, he had no mood to check these girls out or flirt with them.

“Can I know where to sell these herbs?” Chu Feng asked while he took out few herbs that he had gathered on the way to the city.

“Welcome to the Adventurer’s guild of Brouis. Can I know which herbs do you want to sell?” Receptionist girl welcomed him with smile on her beautiful face. It was definitely better and genuine smile than the receptionists from the Earth had.

Brouis was apparently the name of city he was currently standing in, which he did not know of till now. Not just the city name but he didn’t even know the names of the herbs he had brought or to be more accurate, he didn't even know if these grasses and flowers were actually herbs.

“Actually I am new to this kind of job so I don’t know names yet. Can I show you the herbs instead?” Chu Feng asked as he laughed embarrassingly, scratching back of his head.

“Oh! It’s not a problem at all. Everyone starts as a rookie. Sir, you can head to the 1st room of the second floor, there will be someone who will help you with the herbs. Thanks for coming to the Adventurer’s guild.” After a brief pause of surprise, receptionist told Chu Feng to go to the specific room while keeping her usual smile but he could tell from her eyes that she was laughing at him. Without waiting there for more embarrassment, Chu Feng went to the second floor’s first room as he was told.

Chu Feng knocked on the door and asked if he could come in. After few moments he got a reply which was also from the girl, this voice voice was even cuter than the receptionist on the first floor. Chu Feng even started to think that all the staff in this guild might be girls to seduce and keep adventurers that come here as he had seen that there were only few adventurers here. “You can come in.”

There was a little girl quietly sitting on the chair with big book on her lap; there were also many books surrounding her. It looked like her small body was getting crushed under the big book when he saw her.

“Little girl, can I identify the herbs that I have here?” Chu Feng asked casually but he soon realized that he had blurted out something he shouldn’t have. He immediately looked at her face which was extremely cute for a girl who was covered in books like that, which were definitely heavier than her own body.

“Say something unnecessary again and I will kick you out. Come here and show me the herbs. You will be charged 10 copper coins per herb; if you are not registered as adventurer at the guild then you will have to pay 20 copper coins per herb. You look penniless so you can pay me after selling the herbs that you have.” Girl replied in calm voice as if she had faced this kind of situation many times. But Chu Feng could still tell that she was a bit angry so he didn’t waste any time and took out one of every type of herb that he had and put it in front of her.

She picked herbs one by one and smelled it before telling its name and writing something on the paper. “This is red-burn grass. This one is sunrise flower. Wow! This is extremely rare flower called demon blossom; it is only found when extremely high amount of mana fluctuations happen naturally. It’s my first time seeing one but I heard that it can push all kinds of deadly poison from one’s body to the part where poison was injected from, which makes it easier to remove poison without leaving any residual poison behind in other parts of the body. This one is just a grass. This …” she continued to identify these herbs for a while when Chu Feng noticed that he could now see the names of the herbs popping up whenever he looked carefully at them. He knew it was definitely because of the system. System had many new features that he did not know of so he decided that he would ask everything about the system to that rude assistant later.

After half an hour later, this little girl stopped writing on the paper and handed it over to Chu Feng. This paper had all the information about the herbs written on it, including prices. Only Demon Blossom’s price was not there, maybe because she had seen this flower for the first time.

Chu Feng curiously took a glance at the information but he still could not read this language. Still as he had expected, he could understand the meaning of the things written in it. But it did not mean that he could write in this language as what he had understood from these words was like some words in his original language from the Earth appeared in his mind, just like auto translator. He picked these herbs one by one and put it into his inventory. Now he could see all the information of the herbs when he took a glance at it, which made him very happy.

“There were nine herbs so you'll have to pay 180 copper coins for this information as you are not an adventurer of the guild, from what I can guess about you. You can take out all the herbs and sell it here to me. As for that rare flower, it’s up to you to sell it or not. I am more than willing to buy it. It’s extremely expensive as it is usable to the people under level 100.” Little girl said as she looked at Chu Feng in calm manner but her eyes definitely had hint of excitement in it. She was quite smart to guess that he was not an adventurer and also the fact that he was penniless. He didn’t know how she knew it but he knew that this little girl was much more smarter than what she looked like.

“For now, I will keep that flower. These are all the herbs that I have on me right now. So please check it and I also heard that guild is paying more for the herbs right now.” Chu Feng said as he took all the herbs he had from his bag except for the ‘Demon Blossom’ as he felt that this will definitely help him if someone he knows gets poisoned in the future.

“So many… wait for a while; I’ll immediately evaluate it and give you a proper price for it.” Guild had shortage of the herbs so she was happy to get so many of these herbs. And most of them were herbs used to make healing potions so they were extremely useful.

After waiting for an hour or so, she finally sorted out the herbs with Chu Feng’s help and evaluated everything. “Total price for these herbs is 1453 silver coins after deducting the information cost. I will give you 1500 for the fact that you showed me super rare flower like that and these herbs are also in good condition.” She handed 14 gold coins, 90 silver coins and 100 copper coins in three different pouches before continuing, “1 gold coin is equal to 100 silver coins and 1 silver coin is equal to 10 copper coins.”

Chu Feng was shocked by her words as if she already knew that Chu Feng knew nothing about this currency. Chu Feng didn’t show shock on his face and kept his calm when putting these three pouches in his inventory. He knew she really wanted ‘Demon Blossom’ flower from her reaction earlier. He thought about it carefully, this Demon Blossom flower was purple in color which would perfectly match her purple frock so he took out one of the flower and gave it to her in hope to get more information from her “Here, this one is as a thanks from me. You wanted it, right? Take it.”

“You! Are you sure? I mean… no! I can’t accept this expensive thing.” She cried out in surprise and excitement at start but she immediately controlled herself and rejected this offer.

“It’s ok. You can have it. I already have so much money and I also have another one with me. Take it.” Chu Feng said laughingly as he thought that he had enough money for the stable start of his new life in this world.

“This flower can cost more than 1000 gold coins. Do not spread such information about having this flower to others or you will get killed for it.” She seriously said to him. By now she had made her own deductions about Chu Feng's identity so she knew he had no knowledge about these kinds of things.

“SO MUCH!” Chu Feng was surprised by this prize as it was much more valuable than all the herbs he had sold and not by just a small margin at that.

“How about this; I can buy it from you for the market prize, if you really want to give it to me? Or you can ask for something in return within that price range.” She offered this proposal to him. Even though she knew that anyone would think twice about selling it after hearing this price but she really wanted this flower so she shamelessly asked him about this.

Chu Feng closed his eyes and thought it over. He didn’t need so much money right now and money might even put him and girls in danger so he had to think about it carefully. He opened his eyes before looking at the scattered books lying on the ground. He thought to himself, ‘Yes, what I need the most right now, is the knowledge about this world.’ So he offered different proposal to this girl.

“I told you I am giving it to you as a gift so I am not going to take money from you so how about this; you can tell me all the things about herbs, monsters, adventurers and also different races. I want to know as much as you can tell me till the sunset. I know you might think that I am joking but I really don’t know much about these things so, do you want to teach me?”

Little girl stood silently for few moments while thinking about something. Then she went to the table in the corner of the room and picked up a chair and set it for herself before sitting on one side of the table and breaking the silence, “I don’t want to teach you but I want this flower. Now what are you waiting for? Come here and pour the tea. Listen without disturbing me. I will explain everything briefly for you.”

Chu Feng happily went ahead and poured tea for them and sat down on the chair silently as she started her lecture.

Time passed by quickly as Chu Feng listened to her every words with a complete focus; an hour, two hours, three hours, five hours,… she talked nonstop, only stopping whenever her herbal tea would be finished, they would talk casually when she brewed the tea then they would continue their lecture.

Chu Feng had came here maybe at 9 in the morning and now it was already starting to get darker so they finally finished their talk which was nearly one sided conversation for Chu Feng all the time as it was this little girl who talked from start till the end.

“Thank you for giving so much of your time. I am surprised no one disturbed us for an entire day.” Chu Feng said with smiling face as he currently had a bit respect for this girl’s brain, which had so much information in it. He really wanted to change this girl with his current system assistant.

“It’s first Sunday of the month so Adventurers' teams gather at the new dungeons that pop out once in a while, to clear it. Not many people visit guild on this day. Today was the holiday for many consulters so I was substituting for the day. I thought it would be easy day but it was really tiresome.” She said as she stretched herself a bit after getting up. Chu Feng felt sorry for her as he had made her sit and talk for so many hours continuously.

“Then I’ll see you tomorrow. I will be coming back to register myself as an adventurer tomorrow. I think it will be much easier to earn money that way. Once again, thanks for the help.” Chu Feng said before turning towards the door preparing to leave when he was stopped in shock by her sudden words.

“Don’t tell anyone that you are from the other world yet. Wait for more of your people to appear here first or people will try to catch you to see if you have anything special or they might even want to get information about the people from your world. And also take this ring with you and drop a bit of your blood on it so you can use it freely. It can be used to store money. People from this world can’t store money in their inventory or any skill based item box. Take it as remaining payment for that flower.” Little girl said with a smug look on her face, telling him that she had already confirmed his identity. Chu Feng knew he could not deny this in front of this intelligent little girl so he didn’t waste time in denying it and took ring from her before asking “How did you know?”

“You told it yourself, from your actions. First, you knocked before coming in. People from this world are not this polite but of course this doesn’t prove anything. Second, you had herbs that were mostly from the plains in the north direction of the city where no one can enter currently because of the strange barrier, except for the people from the other world. Third, you didn’t understand anything about money. Fourth, when I gave you so much information, I had told you some information that were very basic that even little kid would know about it but you didn’t say that you knew about it and I don’t need to tell you about something silly like this. Fifth, you rejected so much money because you are afraid to keep it with you, right? You had that look in your eyes. But you still gave me that flower as a gift. People from this world are all greedy for money, especially gold coins that have pure mana in it. Sixth, you thanked me again and again. Politeness will only be seen in nobles which unfortunately is not something that you can fake. And your clothes also looked quite different. But still most important part was the herbs that let me confirm my thoughts. Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone. You can call me Sera. Now tell me your name.” She said while laughing like she had completed big investigation and found the criminal. He knew he could not act like someone from this world just like that but it was still a surprising to him, getting caught on the very first day.

“I am Chu Feng. I guess I underestimated your little brain. But still thanks for keeping it a secret, Sera and also for the warning but I guess I have to go right now. Maybe we will be able to talk tomorrow when I come back for the registration. I have to go back before it gets completely dark. Goodnight.” Chu Feng said as looked outside the window. He got warning to leave from his rude assistant for 2-3 times just now so he couldn’t stay here even for a minute longer as she was literally shouting in his head right now.

“Come three days later. Monday and Tuesday are extremely busy days in the guild. You can go now.” Sera said as she waved her hand, telling him to leave.

Chu Feng just waved at her and left the guild, immediately started walking towards the north gate of the city from where he could return to the barrier. He didn’t know why his system assistant was shouting in his head just now but he still wanted to check on the girls that were sleeping in the barrier so he tried to hurry.

“I got to meet a kind, old grandma. I had fun with that little girl Sera, which also helped me understand basics of this world. I got the money. I guess this was really successful day as the first day in this magical world. Don’t you think so too?” Chu Feng said as he recalled the entire day that he had spent in this world today. This was going to be his regular life from now on.

“I will give you two advises. First, never get happy too early and second, when you say things like this; you raise a flag which might not be something nice. I learned this from your memories of useless mangas and novels that you read. Those are silly but quite addicting.” She said in her monotonous voice which always sounded like she had no interest in talking with him.

“Mangas and novels are not useless, you will understand that if you read more of those things. And why are you telling me about this flag thing now? Is something bad going to happen? And also stop looking in my memories.” Chu Feng asked in confusion as this girl would definitely not take initiative to talk about useless things. As for the memories, he was already used to it as Yu Yan also check his memories once in a while. There was nothing that he could hide from them.

“You’ll soon know about it. And I mean, very very soon.” This time her voice sounded like a whisper in his ear. But it was like an eerie whisper of death to him because of how she had said it. And now that she had said it, he knew there was definitely something going to happen, which she was trying to hide but since she didn't tell him to run yet, he thought it was definitely not a life threatening thing.
