Ch. 5: Another Day

The next morning, back within the town shopping area, Eve is taking a stroll in the park with her siblings. The twins have no school today and are enjoying their time with their big sister. They walk down the small path made of cobblestone. The trees with their red and orange leaves fall to the ground with such elegance and beauty. Some chirping of the birds and squirrels' chittering and chattering are heard within the trees. A few other people are also seen walking down the stoned path of cobble, although it's mostly the elderly. Soon, they run into a familiar face, Nick.

"Nick, what a pleasant surprise to see you in this hour." Eve stated, the children hid behind her, poking their heads out.

"Nice to see you, too." He look down to see the twins' heads poking out from behind her. He crouch down to their level. "And what do we have here? They are the twins you were talking to me about?"

"Oh yes. Lilian, Danny," said Eve as she look down at them. "This is Nicholas, a new friend of mine. Say hi to him." Nick wave at them.

"Hello to ya, kids. I'm Nick. I hope we can be good friends and get along." Nick said before extending his hands to them. They think for a bit as they see his extended hands before taking his hands.

"Hi, nice to meet you." The twins respond in unison. Nick and Eve chuckle. He then stand back up.

"I gotta ask, did you all have something to eat already?" Nick asked them. They all shake their heads to respond. He sigh and put his hands on his hips.

"You must be pretty cheap, Eve. Starving the kids like that." Nick stated, teasing Eve, who smirk at the comment made.

"Shut up." She said playfully. "Anyway, you got any ideas?"

"There's a diner close by to this park. I heard from around here that they make delicious pancakes." He look down at the twins, who started jumping up and down at the mention of pancakes.

"Can we go? Can we go? Please, please?" The twins plead with Eve, who chuckle and put her arms around them.

"Alright, alright. We'll go. So," said Eve, looking at Nick. "Want to lead the way once again? I'll make it my treat for helping me before."

"Sure, why not? And ya did owe me for that time. Let's go." He start walking off. The trio start following behind him.

Soon, after about 15 minutes of walking, they found the place and head inside. The interior feels very comforting and nice. The smell of freshly made pancakes filled the air, activating their hunger. A waitress walk up to them.

"Hi, welcome to Henry's Pancake Parlor. How many?" The woman ask.

"Two adults and two 10 year olds." Eve answered back. The waitress grabs a few menus.

"Ok, just follow me to your table and we'll get set up." She leads them to a table for four. They sit down and the waitress then hand them their menus. She then takes out a small notepad and pen.

"Now, what would you like to drink?"

"Coffee for me." Nick said.

"I'll have coffee as well." Eve replied.

"I'll take orange juice." Danny answered.

"Chocolate milk for me, please." Lilian said. The waitress wrote it all down.

"Ok, I'll be back with your drinks. Enjoy." She stated before leaving.

Soon, a television program turns on in one of the TVs set up throughout the place.

"We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you today's news. Early this morning, a thirty two year old man was found hanged in the living room of his home. His wife of ten years was coming back from a visit to her parents before stumbling upon the gruesome scene. Police reported there appeared to be a struggle before the confirmed hanging. Neighbors reported seeing a large, hooded figure from one of the windows when the incident occured. Police suspects a murder in their hands, but no evidence is found to determine the killer. In other news, a young woman was arrested at the station for disrupting the peace and refusal to cooperate. Police claimed she was yelling about a large, hooded figure that escaped the cemetery and is heading this way. However, due to her mad rants, she will not be charge and will be admitted to an insane asylum. That's all the news we have today. Please return your regularly scheduled program."

The show return back to normal. Eve then look to Nick, sipping on her coffee that was brought over earlier.

"What was that about? Is what the old man said was true?"

"Maybe. But, that was crazy. Who use hanging as a way of killing others? I mean, it sounds so weird."

They both laugh at the subject. Eve then look out the window and see a strange sight. A black hooded figure in a long, black coat is seen, looking straight at her, the other pedestrians continue their way, as if it's not real or there in the first place. She rub her eyes and the figure is no longer there.

"Something wrong, Eve?" Nick asked, who notice her strange behavior. She look back and shakes her head, thinking it is merely her mind playing tricks on her.

"It's nothing. Now, why don't we order? Are you all ready?"

They shout out and soon, continue their talk, waiting for their food. However, they are unaware of the mysterious man in a black hood, staring at them from afar outside the window of the restaurant. Another man with a child and woman pass by in front of him, and soon, he was gone the moment he pass. They don't seem to know that he was there. What Eve amd Nick don't know is that they are in the sights of an imposing killer and nothing....... nothing will stop him from exacting his incoming wave of killing upon the peaceful town.
