Episode 16

Raven arrived home late, but the prince had the guards escort her, just in case that man was still following her; she merely entered her chamber and donned her pajamas, collapsing onto her bed, staring at the remnants of the afternoon's tea party, feeling that she won't be able to endure being the crown prince's wife for long, as it is clear that upon their marriage, she will be required to attend such gatherings. Vivian knocks on her door and is allowed in, the girl sits beside her looking worried.

“What’s wrong? Were you harassed for being my friend?”

“No, it’s not that, I’m just worried. I overheard father speaking with a man, and they were saying that the neighboring country is on the verge of declaring war on Ilios.”

“That’s nothing new; our country has always been targeted by Ammos. But don’t worry, nothing will happen.”

“Raven, I’m scared, dad and that man seemed truly frightened.”

Vivian hugs Raven while crying, the girl has always been sensitive and fearful, and hearing about a potential war only heightens her fears; Raven gently strokes her back, letting her cry all she needs to vent. Meanwhile, Aiden is confronting the empress, who appears irritated by his presentation before the noble ladies, especially in the company of that girl, deeming it disrespectful to her.

“I still do not approve of that girl. She’s a witch and a nobody, I will do all I can to make the emperor forbid your marriage.”

“Mother, even if you manage that, I have no intention of marrying any of the girls you propose, especially Miss Rose, she’s the worst of all.”

“Do not speak ill of her, Miss Rose is indeed a decent and well-mannered lady.”

“That’s what you think? She is already betrothed, and if she seeks marriage with me it is solely for the crown.”

“Aiden! Do not spread such slander! Miss Rose is nothing like that woman you intend to marry.”

“Who says Raven is indecent? Miss Rose? If so, I shall see her arrested this instant.”

Aiden rested his hand on the hilt of his sword, making clear he was ready to slay anyone who continued spreading lies about Raven, and the empress realized this, preferring to remain silent.

“Mother, your silence speaks volumes. I shall order the guards to investigate Miss Rose.”

The empress cannot refute, for if she does too persistently, the prince might believe all the more that it is Daisy who instigated everything.

Aiden is convinced that Daisy is the instigator, but he has yet to find proof to bring before the emperor.

Meanwhile, in the emperor’s private chambers, the nobles are gathered, all displaying concern over the situation with Ammos; the tension is worsening, and the emperor of Ammos continues to insist they surrender their lands to him, but it is well known that he merely seeks to exploit Ilios’s resources—a nation distinguished for its grand mountain producing light crystals and its diamond-rich mines, factors contributing to its prosperity. The emperor of Ammos covets it all. The nobility debates how to avert war, considering conceding a portion of their bounty, but many oppose such a move, not a favorable course of action, for the greedy man is unlikely to be satisfied with so little.
