the one that got away

The second the man heard a gunshot come from the sports shop he jumped and tried to grab the keys, he dropped the keys a few times in his panic but he was finally able to start the car after a few attempts and he sped off.

"shit shit no no not now!" the man yelled as the car came to a slow hault "shit!" he yelled as he banged on the steering wheel, he looked around and saw a gas station not too far ahead.

the man slowly approached the small building, he grabbed a Jerry can and began filling it with gas.

as hour later the man was able to fill his car a little and he parked at the gas station.

"there it is!" Sabrina said as she pointed at the familiar vehicle, it was the black SUV he saw the men arrive in. she and brock got close to the gas station. Sabrina slowly walked towards the front door, trying her best to crouch just below eye level, she made the first step into the doorway but just as she did, a couple of cans rattled. sabrina looked down in horror "shit!" she whispered she had stepped on a string that was tied infront of the door, it had cans on both sides.

when sabrina looked up the man was already on her left side pointing his pistol at her temple. "I had a feeling those hillbilly fucks were killed" the man said "I dont know why the boss wastes his time on people like them" the man finished as his grip tightened on the firearm "maybe he just likes stupid people he can control easily... what do you think" "I think you should go eat shit asshole" Sabrina said, her voice was a little shaky. "your a fistey one ain't cha? the boss'll love breakin you" the man said as he thrusted his pistol into the side of sabrina's cheek causing her to fall to her knees in pain.

"I found the hostile I was talkin about" the man said "just some teenager, a real bitch this one. she just told me to go eat shit" the man said into his radio.

"now if I recall there was someone else with you, correct? where did he wonder off too?" the man asked. Sabrina looked to the side then back at the man "he was attacked by a group of deads.... he didnt make it" Sabrina spoke as she looked down, "well I'm terribly sorry for you loss-" the man was cut off, Sabrina had grabbed her pocket knife and sliced the mans arm, causing him to drop his weapon, the man went for a punch but sabrina was able to dodge it and she kicked him onto the counter top, the man was out cold. "lesson 1 of the apocalypse, people are unpredictable.... never trust them" Sabrina said as she wiped the blood off the side of her head.

the man slowly woke up, he blinked as his eyes began adjusting to the suns light, he groaned a little and tried to lay is hand on his head but he couldn't, infact he couldnt move anything. he was completely tied up right outside the gas station. "what's even the point of using car keys anymore? I mean why don't you guys just use the self driving cars?" Sabrina asked "well whatever the reason it makes stealing your car much easier" Sabirina finished as she twirled the mans keys around her fingertips. brock was looking through the mans bags, trying to find anything useful "hmm? why the hell does he have a copy of 'zen and the art of bike repair' ?" brock asked as he threw the book to the ground "is that really all he has in there?" Sabrina yelled back "nah I found a really old phone, a bus ticket, and about 2 Canadian dollars" Brock said as he threw the bag away "wow you really couldn't pack anything useful for the apocalypse could you?" Sabrina said as she looked down at the man, dissatisfied "I thought you said the other person was killed by deads" the man said as he looked at brock "that's called a lie my friend" Sabrina said "and if you wanna live I suggest you start talking" "about what?!" the man yelled "about who the hell you and those other boys work for!" Sabrina yelled. "brock tell him to go eat shit" Sabrina said as she was getting pissed "no way! you tell him" brock said "hey! asshole! if you dont start talkin, I'm gonna make you eat shit!" sabrina yelled. the man looked down ".... listen I dont know much about our boss, only the high ranking men know him personally, but I do know his name Ricardo Ilos." the man finished "is that all?!" sabrina yelled "I also know, that he'll send his elite men after you if he finds out me and my boys have been killed..." the man said as he began laughing "so-so I'll get the last laugh you dumbasses! I'll win!" the man began laughing manically "ok let's just leave him here, his minds broken" Sabrina said as she looked down at the man "we won't get any more info out of him like this".

15 minutes later

the two had stolen the mans SUV and left him there. "hey brock ya know what, I just had a great idea for a song" sabrina said as she poked her head of out the back seat "it goes like pizza mozzarella, pizza mozzarella, rella, rella , rella, rella, rell- pretty good right?" Sabrina asked "wow that's super good, especially the 'rella rella' part!" "you really think so?" "ha! no!" Brock said as he laughed "wait brock holy shit! do you see that!" sabrina said as she looked at the rear view mirror. they were being followed by another black SUV. "shit its gotta be more of those gangsters." Brock said as he increased his speed "damnit! that guy at the gas station was talking into his radio! he must've called for reinforcements!" Sabrina said as she pulled out her rifle "what the hell are you doing?" brock asked "I'm just trying to send them an invitation to my birthday party- WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK IM DOING?" "I'm gonna get those bastards off our back- now keep the car steady" sabrina said as she moved to the back seat and broke one of the windows with her rifle. she took aim and fired! she missed the window and hit the headlight "shit!" another shot "****!" another shot "shit ****!" "hey keep the car steady damnit-" sabrina was cut off by a bullet going right passed her face "shit!" sabrina yelled as she ducked into the car "ok new plan I'm driving" sabrina said as she grabbed the wheel "dont take your foot of the pedal, kid! were going for a ride!" Sabrina yelled as she yanked the steering wheel, causing the car to do a full 180. "dont take your foot off... not till I say so-"

"now!" Sabrina yelled as brock lifted his foot off the pedal, sabrina stabbed a knife through the pedal, pinning it to the floor, she grabbed brock by the jacket and jumped out of the car with him. both vehicles crashed into eachother.

brock landed on the ground near where sabrina was, both of them were breathing heavily "h-holy shit dude" Brock said to himself .

there were 3 men in the other car all of them were badly injured or dead.

"wow I cant believe that actually worked" "your the craziest girl I've ever met" Brock said .... there was no response "sabrina?" brock asked, sabrina was curled up on the ground holding her leg, blood was covering her Jeans "damnit-" sabrina said as she slowly removed her hand from her leg.

a sharp chunk of metal was lodged deep in Sabrina's calf on her right leg. the chunk was only about the size and length of the blade on a pair of safety scissors but it was as sharp as a dagger, it was in extremely deep. "****!" sabrina yelled as more blood came out of her leg. brock froze up, he didnt know what to do.

5 minutes later

for the past 5 minutes sabrina had tried to slowly pull the chunk out of her leg. because of her lost blood, brock kept searching through both their bags and the dead men at the crash sites bag for any food to help her stabilize "why didnt I grab any bandages at the damn sports shop- ****!" she yelled as the metal chunk was almost out. they had a few minutes of sunlight left and their chances of surviving till morning were growing slimmer. finally she yanked the chunk out with one final pull, she bit her lower lip to distract her from the pain. she had been doing this the entire time and her lips were bleeding at this point.

she ripped one of her jacket sleeves and tied it around her leg to stop the bleeding. she tried to stand but couldnt, brock had to help her walk.

"we cant continue on the main road.... too many of those black SUVs" Sabrina said "I remember there being a resort in that forest down that way- it's off the main road if we cut across the forest" brock said pointing off into the distance "they might have medical supplies..."
