Gone

It’s been a week since we finished our rehearsal. Nothing new happened because our class has been busy with the preparations, preparing the costumes, the backdrop, the props and such.

Every student and teacher was busy for the Foundation Day on Monday. Since there was nothing for me to do there, I’ll be taking a walk around the campus. I thought about how fast the days were going.

After our performance next week, I’ll be out of my misery which was the drama play. It was so tiring and I never want to do it again, ever.

Yesterday was the first day of foundation day and today was our performance day. Everyone from the production staff was preparing the stage, checking the lights and sounds while the actors were changing into their respective costumes and applying their make-up.

Whatever happens today, I’ll be done with acting and staying late after class for rehearsals. I am determined to never do this again.

It was nearing our class’ turn to perform and I could already see them trying to shake their nerves off.

“Oh no! I’m getting nervous.”

“Please let me deliver my lines properly.”

“OMG! You’re pale.”

“Everyone relax. You can do it.”

“I feel like puking!”

Everyone was anxious. But it didn't matter to me.

Right then we just heard the emcee introduce us. “And now the time has come, let us all welcome. The SHS drama play, A Little Bit of Love."

Everyone in the auditorium felt silent after the applauses and the play is starting.

Everything is going smoothly, all actors are in character and nothing wrong happened.

And then I was acting my last scene.

“I’m tired of this! I’ve been, no— we’ve been giving our best effort in befriending you. But, you never even attempt to let us in! Are you even a human being? I’ve never encountered such a person, who was never moved by the people surrounding her.” Terrence spoke with depth.

I was shocked by every word he spoke. It caught me off guard and rendered me speechless. The fact that we were still acting and there were people who are watching us…were those lines even written on his script? Why wasn't I able to read it? Did I hear him recite those very words during rehearsals?

“Don’t you want to change?” he asked me, his eyes filled with pity.

I was still in shock but then a thought struck me just now. I should answer him. After all the play is still in progress. As an ending I replied, “It’s not that I don’t want to change, but…I can’t change.”

And then the curtains fell.

At the back stage, the entire class has gathered and began congratulating each other with their excellent performance. Halfway through the cheers, Gabe and Maria realized Aurora was nowhere to be found. Terrence ran to her dressing room and found it completely empty. He smiled a bitter smile and thought, she ran away…again.
